Plot
Kang Tae-Joon (Minho) is a gold medalist in the high jump, but he has been mired in a slump due to an injury. In order to help her idol, a girl named Koo Jae-Hee (Sulli) disguises herself as a boy and enrolls at the same all male high school.

When Tae-Joon (Minho) is competiting at the World Junior Competition, Jae-Hee (Sulli) watches him on TV in America and becomes very touched.
Despite her friends telling her otherwise, Jae-Hee cuts her long hair by herself. She then flies to South Korea, with a plan to stay with Tae-Joon who is now injured. Jae-Hee disguises herself as a boy and enrolls at the all boys Genie Physical Education High School. On her first day at school, Jae-Hee goes up the stairs with her suitcase, but her suitcase bursts open and all her clothes fall out. A boy comes by and helps her pick up her stuff. Jae-Hee realizes that the boy helping her is none other than her idol Tae-Joon. In her excitement, Jae-Hee sits on her suitcase, which proceeds to slide down the stairs.
Jae-Hee gets to her first class and introduces herself. One of her classmaste, Jong-Min (Hwang Kwang-Hee), tells her that if she wants to become their classmate she will have to go pickup a ball that sits inside a doghouse located on campus. Jae-Hee goes to the doghouse and sees a warning sign about the dog. Nevertheless, the dog seems friendly to Jae-Hee and she goes inside to take out the ball. At that moment, Jae-Hee hears Tae-Joon voices and she hides in the doghouse. Tae-Joon starts to talk to the dog and tells the dog that he doesn't want to perform the high jump at tomorrow's commercial shooting. Tomorrow will be the first time Tae-Joon does the high jump after suffering from his injury. Jae-Hee comes out of the doghouse and asks Tae-Joon if he is ok after his injury. Tae-Joon becomes angry and leaves.
She goes back to the classroom and gives the ball to Jong-Min, who is very surprised. The dog is normally hostile to guys that come by. Eun-Gyeol (Lee Hyun-Woo), who is a soccer player, looks at her with a smile.
Later, Jae-Hee goes to her dorm room and learns that she is sharing her room with one other student. When she gets out of the shower, Jae-Hee sees her new roommate, who is Tae-Joon! Tae-Joon immediately kicks her out of the room, but with the help of Seung-Ri (Seo Jun-Young), the student dorm monitor, she is able to get back into the room.
The next day, students at Genie High School gather to play soccer. Tae-Joon tells Jae-Hee that if she makes a goal he will let her stay in his room. Jae-Hee tries hard to score a goal, but collides with Jong-Min and gets knocked out. Tae-Joon carries her to the school infirmary. Before she wakes up, Tae-Joon runs to the school gym where the high jump commercial will be filmed. Meanwhile, Tae-Hee wakes up and she knows that the school doctor knows that she is a girl.

- Filming begins June, 2012.
- "To The Beautiful You" takes over the Wednesday & Thursday 21:55 time slot previously occupied by "Ghost" and will be followed by "The Great Seer" on October 10, 2012.
- First script reading took place on June 7, 2012 at the SBS Ilsan Production Studio. Minho, Sulli, Lee Hyun-Woo, Kim Ji-Won and other cast members attended the reading.
- Actor Minho received training in the high jump by former national high jumper and coach Kim Tae-yong.
- "To The Beautiful You" is the first drama series to implement the "bullet time" technique popularized in the U.S. film "The Matrix". The technique was implement on July 20th, 2012 at the World Cup stadium in Daegu, South Korea. The staff implemented 105 different cameras to shoot Tae-Joon's (Minho) high jump scene. This scene will be shown in ep.1 of "To The Beautiful You".
- Ep.8 (scheduled to air September 6, 2012) features Kang Tae-Joon (Minho) and Koo Jae-Hee (Sulli) reenacting a famous scene from SBS drama series "Secret Garden" starring Ha Ji-Won and Hyun-Bin. The scene consists of the two characters making eye contact while performing sit-ups. Filming for that scene took place on August 28 at a university gym in Icheon, South Korea.
- Actor Kim Woo-Bin makes a guest appearance in ep.9 and ep.10. He will play Jae-Hee's (Sulli) first love John Kim. His character is written as a world famous photographer. When Jae-Hee and John Kim have a sweet moment together, Tae-Joon (Minho) and Eun-Gyeol (Lee Hyun-Woo) become jealous.

I don't get it why they have low ratings in Korea but in the PHILIPPINES, this Korean drama ROCKS our days. TTBY is PHENOMANAL in Philippines I hope SULLI & MINHO will have another drama series to lead on. ;))))))))))))))))))))))))

Currently, the series is being shown here in the Phillippines and it has earned lots of good comments from viewers. It may be different from that of the Japanese version but I can say the casts justified very well the roles they have played specially the lead roles. However, the ending wasn't not as much as it is expected to be. There was a missing ingredient which could leave an impact( I have watched the Korean version online prior to the broadcast in the Philippines). Hopefully there will be a second season for this drama to finally satisfy the ending.

This drama is really good i recommend this drama for everyone its daebak. The characters are so wonderful and lovely, Sulli, Minho and Lee Hyun Woo are so cute and portrayed their characters really well.
Btw the NR notes are does not determine whether the drama is good or not (sometimes it does) but this drama was competing against "innocent man and Arrang and the magistrate" that is why the ratings arent as high. This is because koreans like watching melodramas and historical dramas as a majority compared to modern teen dramas. However this drama is pretty good (:

This drama is so cute i wish there were corny/cheesy romance scenes and the casting and acting was great especially Sulli's acting (im not being bias but i think she did a really good job considering it changed her image from girly to tomboy (:
(just being honest here, i think that everything is great in this drama however the story line is a bit dry or missing something, but i would still recomend people to watch it cause they might fall in love with the characters (for me ,the main characters, Sulli/jae hee, Minho/tae joon, Lee hyun woo/eun gyeol))

for me, i think both version are the best in their own style..
if u prefer drama that is funny, crazy and have super duper happening/absurd moment in the drama, u must check out hana kimi japanese version..its really the funniest japanese drama i've ever seen..i really like all of the dorm's leaders and their people..they are the craziest and funniest that make the drama sooo lively..and i cant forget the fans girls "Hibari Four" in this drama..they are soo annoying..lol..it also have unexpected couple here..hehe
if u are not satisfied with the romance development in hana kimi japanese version, then u should check out hana kimi korean version..this drama is absolutely full with romance, cheesy line and lovey dovey moment between Jae Hee x Tae Joon and Jae Hee x Eun Gyeol..it also shows great friendship between Tae Joon x Hyung Jae and Hyung Jae x Eun Gyeol..last but not least, the unexpected couple are born!! i am not gonna tell who is it because they are so cute together so u all should watch it!! and im glad that they didnt show that much shounen ai theme like japanese version..the only moment that have shounen ai theme is when Kwang Hee fanboying Eun Gyeol..haha..even the doctor not showing any sign of shounen ai (if it happen eugene will cry..lol)
conclusion, i love both version of hana kimi except taiwanese version..well, it depends on own preference then.. ^^

if suzy was the girl,,, i bet i would be really excited.. though i know sulli is a good actress ( she was even b4 being an idol), i just feel like the only three girl group members that i'd absolutely enjoy watching are Seohyun, Sohee & Suzy!!! anyways, i'll check out the first episode... the japanese drama is totally daebak so i wonder if this can compete w/ it...

Tonight is the last episode TTBY, sob sob sob. Even though been watching again-again from internet, it doesn't seem enough for me.Can't wait to get the original DVD and looking forward for join remarks between Sulli n Tae Joon. I watch versi Japan as well and it is good too. But to compare Japan and Korea version is not totally fair. This 2 plot totally different from one and other. I like Japan version but adore Korea better. Why don't we it back and enjoy the movies? Fighting!!!

I cannot wait for the DVD to come out I must get this Drama it's a must. I ignore all phone calls and I got my eyes glued to the TV and I have a DVR and copied almost all the chapetrs. I watch certain seens over and over again. The Cast is outstanding and I give the two thumbs up. I certainly hope they both end up together thats the bottom line. Seol Ri as Go jae Hee and Choi Min Ho as Kan Tae Joon should end up together and I believe they will <3 ;-)

This was the first Korean drama that I watched.
I loved the actors, especially the main trio.
The songs are beautiful, the atmosphere at school gave me miss my time.
I'll wait for the dvd / blu-ray and buy. I want to watch again and again again ...

Seems like the shows I really like are short, while the ones that are just okay are longer. lol
This is one that I'm really going to miss watching every weak!
I'm really impressed with Minho's acting, most pop stars just aren't that good at delivering a truly believable performance.

Only 2 episodes left.huu..im a bit disappointed with the rating since i had fun watching it.ya.who cares bout the rating bt it did affect the actor n actress i guess.i think they did their job very well.same goes to the script writer too.but after all,its our own personal taste.i just hope that they cn sell this drama to as many country as they can.lol.TTBY fighting!!

My tears fell seeing Minho cried over his mum's death oh my he really did a great job here and i can't wait to see episode 14 how he dealt with sick father who hurt him and mum a lot:( Minho will be the next young actor that m looking forward to watch his next job.Yeah i also want to see this Jung Dung-Gun acting that many people talk about???Seems famous actor of Korea i think hmm

Yeah agreed with 'Sundas' KTJ already knew GJH is actually a girl! He did chased her out but then saw the video Jay send to Coach Holten that touched his heart then stopped her from leaving (Ep 5).KTJ just lost her mother that inspired him to be great high-jumper so when he had GJH by his side of course he would not let her go.GJH is his first love:) He doesn't know how to treat her as a room-mate or girl-friend hahaahaa...As for GJH she definitely thought that KTJ only knew him as boy.This make this drama interesting one thing for sure not copying the JAPe or TAIWe version....Thus to understand the whole scenario do watch from episode 1 - 12 and enjoy the show:)....For me TTBY is the BEST hmmm

I loved the korean version more..i mean no disrespect to jap guys,but korean guy have more "prince" like feel to them than jap guys..like minho in this drama..the jap version guy was not at all handsome ,on the contrary he looked so old..n playfull kiss,the thai version didn appel me that muh..kim joong hyun is more prince like n depeciter the emotions well..korean verisons are directed more nicly ithnk

Okay, this isn't a matter of which version is better or not, let's be honest. It's which version you saw first and fell in love with. I think the jap version and Korean version both have their perks and flaws. No need to compare them. I simply love the Korean version though. It is realistic, entertaining, and a joy to watch. The chemistry and Interaction between the characters is beuautiful. It could use a bigger soundtrack, but I disagree with the few comments I've seen about poor acting. They all are pretty dead onto me. So, my point. You will like which version you like. Shut it with the comparisons. There is a version for each type of person. Those who look for a good laugh but a cheesy story, or those who enjoy a more realistic take on this love story.

Does anyone else notice that the key, most important part of the drama DOES NOT HAPPEN in the Korean version? I am talking about the fact that early on Kim Tae-Joon finds out she's a girl, and for the whole drama keeps it a secret. It really bugged me when I saw him take her to the doctor and not accidentally find out the truth like he did in the manga. This is killing me, and I really feel like it changes the whole story line! They are doing a good job with this drama for the most part, but how is KTJ supposed to fall for her and not think he's gay? (Like the other dude is) How is KTJ supposed to protect her when she's careless about a wet shirt?? Ughhh! My favourite part of this drama doesn't exist in the Korean Version!! some comment compared about japan and korean ver, and I think both of that interesting cause they show it in different way, japan seem more funny but also unrealistic, cause the main boy looks so cold and nakatsu looks so cheesy, but in korean, minho looks so kind all the time, we can hate him cause he is kind. It totally different with many drama that told us to believe a cute girl can make a cold and strong guy falling for her and be a nice one.
In this drama Minho already show his kindness from the 1st time, so it interesting, even people say this is boring than the japaneese, I think it because they show it in different ways, japan show cute love and dummy funny act, but korean show a simple love story that sweet and realistic,
and for Minho, I like your actingm cause I 've seen too much cold guys and I need one kind of nice guy

In some point, I like the drama because of the sparks between TaeJoon and JaeHee. And, as the time goes, MinHo portrays of TaeJoon is really look like Izumi Sano from the manga.
But, in another point, this drama is so boring... Especially, during HaNa scene which for me is so cheesy and cliche.
They said they try to remake the manga, but some scene definitely is a remake from Japanese version.
Nevertheless, I still need to watch this kind of drama to entertain my busy life...

I like the show, and I especially like that Kang Tae-Joon isn't so mean.
All Korean shows that I've seen the lead male is always mean and sarcastic, I'm guessing that's how it is in their culture for it to be popular in all the shows.
I like this one more because there is more happy moments than sad ones.
Even though there are several similarities with other shows like Big etc., I still find it entertaining to watch.
I guess all the haters are people who've seen other versions, and have formed an opinion.
I haven't see them so these stories are new and interesting to me.
I'm in the U.S. and watch online at Hulu.com otherwise I'd have no access to these shows.
The only downside is some of them only last 16 episodes like this one, and I find myself missing watching them when it's over.

as usual Korean drama that makes other versions of Japanese drama always failed miserably .....
I watched the Japanese version (hanakimi) and I laugh out loud every episode ......
but while watching Korean version really made me bored to death, I do not know what makes me tired either because the player can not act or because the story .....
very disappointing but the Japanese version is a drama with the acquisition of a high rating, while the Korean version totally destroyed .....

But I wonder why Taejoon (Minho as The Man Main Cast) not so cold like other The Man Main Cast at other story (Hanakimi Japan and Mandarin) he makes me melting and I can't close my eyes just a second it becuase him. His smile so warm. He usually smile in this drama.

"TTBY" didn't suck in acting! it's just that others may think that its just an adopted drama or a repeat drama..they already know the plot, the climax, the ending that's why they choose to watch another drama.. but for me i will still watch this despite of the low ratings, not because min ho is there, actually i hate the actors at first but they give me nerves after i saw ep 1..so to those who don't like it, just shut up and find another drama to watch, your free, nobody will stop you..

I was a bit surprised that the rating for this drama is low. I watched a lot of dramas and have to say that the acting here is Perfectly Great (and i'm a person who criticize a lot)! I was a little iffy about watching the korean version, but i'm super glad that I did now. Honestly speaking, I am NOT watching this because i'm a fan since I personally do not know much about Shinee or f(x) but as a viewer of k-drama I do give them props for their acting skills. Suili played her role really well, almost naturally (which I liked). Overall, I love this drama so far. Though I liked the japanese one too, the korean version just feels a lot more complete--story line wise.

To everyone saying "stop criticizing the cast", it's inevitable. Most people here are NOT antis of the idol. They're giving their honest opinion. The Korean public doesn't care that the idols are trying their best--their best is obviously not cutting it. The drama ratings are below 5% now. Remember in Korea, not everyone knows who is acting. Not everyone knows it's SHINee's Minho or f(x)'s Sulli or some hot dudes from EXO. They just turned on their TV and want to watch a drama. They see the acting sucks, and go to another channel. That's all. I just hope they get their guts together and turn the way this drama is unfolding around.

I'm sick and tired of people saying that sm should have chose different actorss other then sulli and Minho. I think its good that sulli is in it. She has some acting history and it will be very good for her in fx. Sulli is supposed to be the face of the group but other members such as amber and krystal are more recognizable. Also some people are complaining that minho isn't a good choice as tae joon since minho hasn't had much acting experience but he will be just fine!! He is already very athletic. I'm not going to say this drama is going to be a failure, because I haven't even watched it yet, but I just don't have high hopes... I know Minho has an acting career but..it's really small ><. I'm sort of laughing that more than half of EXO is featuring as students, because they don't have any other schedules, and "Well, we might as well open your acting career too". And about a main female role, in Hanakimi (Japan version), Maki Horikita (as Ashiya Mizuki) also doesn't look boyish. Because Mizuki actually really feminine in the first time. Just because want to go to school where is Sano attended, she cut her hair and act as a boy. In episode when her brother come to meet her, Mizuki back to her personality that feminine and beautifull. She back to wear skirt and act so girly. So, it doesn't mind if Sulli get as the main role. I just hope that she can act well in this movie.

I love hana kimi. But this drama will not be popular. There's too many idols and its sm. There should be at least two well recognized actors that are famous for their acting skills. Dream high wasn't popular in korea because it had basically all idols. Only the fans of the idols will watch it. This will be terrible because I know SM kinda sucks at everything, acting, singing. @Asnar97 They have said L would play Eun-Gyuel's roommate but in the original manga he's not really a main character with many lines, he's kind of just there for those random pop up humorous moments cause he can see ghosts so he may not be on the main line up.
In the manga theres a story for his character but they normally don't use any stories other than the three main characters so he may not have much screen time if he is in the show at all.

I think this one will never ever ever be as good as the original one, it won't even honor it. This shouldn't even be related in any way to the original Hana Kimi. I think Sulli is pretty - too pretty - to play Mizuki's role..... she doesn't look like guy at all. And Minho, his only good quality is that he can high jump. The cast in Hanazakari no kimitachi e is just way good and no drama can be as good as it :) but if this drama gives a boost up to Sulli's or Minho's acting career I will be supporting them even if I didn't like them lol

i think it's going to be fun and not boring....because i think almost all of the cast can act good...and has already experience acting...and young and they're ages are close to the manga not in some manga remakes or versions the age gaps are really big. i think the casts are good actors and i can imagine that it'll be funny...SM will not produce something that they think it'll fail... SM has more strategies now than before... and to all out there that loves SM town please give support...

Choi Minho as Kang Tae-joo? AGREE! In the story, Tae-joo is an athlete, and I think Minho fits for this character because he has an athletic body and some athletic skills...and he has a decent skill of acting in the series "Salamander Guru and The Shadows", I hope he will do the same job in this series, as great as in the Salamander Guru....:)

I watched the Japanese version of Hana Kimi and I loved it! I have high expectations for the Korean version. However, I'm not really satisfied with the cast listings. Like others, I have to absolutely agree that Amber would probably have been the better choice to play as Mizuki and I cannot see Sulli playing her. I don't have anything against her but . . .her personality is kind of too girly for the role and to play an athletic role where she may have to run may cause some problems or maybe not. I guess we'll have to see how she plays the role, hopefully, she'll play it well. : D And Minho is athletic but, though he is not my favorite person, Kim Hyungjoon would probably been better suited. I like Minho and SHINee but he is sort of too PRETTY, more than handsome to play Sano. xD I'm happy to see that Hyunwoo will be in this drama! He did such a great job in 'Master of Study' and 'Man from Equator'. Hope to see all the cast's performances. :)

I watched minho's drama salamander guru and was quite surprised with his acting so I'm looking forward to it especially his skills in high jump considering he is one of the most athletic idols there is (probs because of his dad :)
But I kinda wished amber can play mizuki cuz of her boyish looks, but it all depends on the acting though!!!

I'm actually really looking forward to this although I have a feeling it will not be as good as the Japanese and Taiwan version because of their character choices but I love both Minho and Sulli and I would rather have them to be the main role then some other people, I think Minho really fits the role not as much as Sulli but we never know what she's going to be like in the drama until we watch it...so I think some people should stop saying that they don't fit the role and just give it a try when it comes out...

Going to watch it because of Lee Hyun Woo.
No offence but I hated 'heading to the ground' so I got kind of wary of dramas produce by SM Entertainment. I kind of wish they put Lee Hyun Woo as the lead guy and an actress as the main girl.
Minho is my favourite member of SHINee but truthfully I have no confidence in his acting...
I know Sulli was a chil actress but an actress that only focus on acting will definitely be better than her.
I kind of wish it's something like 'You're Beautiful' which they use actors(& actress) for the 2 main characters and the remaining cast from the company. Wouldn't that be better? At least the acting will be decent.
Some Minho fans will definitely be jealous of Sulli and it goes on.

Although I think Sulli will be amazing (Since she is a sunbae within SME when it comes to acting), I still would've preferred it if Krystal were to become the main character :( Then again, she did High Kick 3 already, so she needs to rest up and give the spotlight to some of the other members. Oh well, it's been a long time since I've seen MinStal come together, just a bit disappointed. Still not sure if I'm going to watch this. Will check the reviews whether it's good or not.

i really hope i will not get dissapointed in this drama......bacause the japanese and taiwanese version are really good.....can sulli cut her hair short like ella chen and maki horikita???,,,,,and will min ho surpass the acting of shun oguri and wu chun???.....but in my opinion i think kim hyun joong can bring out the best of izumi sano....and amber is also fitted for the female lead.....
