AJ Feb 15 2022 12:53 am I know that with regards to their Drama Awards, KBS will not give a darn to what the audience think, let alone to a mere international viewer like me.

But if it were up to me, I would do these things so as to give such Awards more credibility:

1. Only series which have concluded their original broadcast are eligible for consideration. This ensure every series can be assessed more completely, in its entirety -- therefore ensuring fairness for all. If a series has not completely concluded its broadcast when the award season arrives, then such series will be considered for next year's awards.

2. Getting rid of the "three-tier system"; so what remains will be only the "base categories" (best actors / actresses in shorties / miniseries / dailies / long dramas, best rookies, best youth actors / actresses). This will simplify things, and truly reflect the winners' achievements.

3. Grand Prize or Daesang will still be awarded. But only those who win one of the "base categories" will be considered for Daesang.

4. I would consider unifying "daily drama" and "long drama" into one, expanded "long drama" category. As of now, usually only 2 or 3 dramas are eligible for consideration in a particular year's "long drama" category, and 4-5 dramas in "daily drama" category. By merging "daily drama" into "long drama", we will have a new expanded "long drama" category which will be more competitive, with around 6-8 dramas eligible to compete in such category in a given year.

5. Regarding the best rookie awards (i.e. best new actor & actress), I would enforce stricter eligibility criteria. This is to ensure that only those who are new (or relatively new) to the acting industry are eligible to compete for such awards. This will also avoid what I've seen as "there's award for everyone" mentality, i.e. "bailing out" those who are not good enough to compete in a particular year's base categories by declaring them as "new actors / actresses" and giving them awards in the rookie categories.

6. Limiting the number of winners in each category to two at most. Or, in exceptional cases, three; provided that there is nothing separating the three winners, and there are at least 9-10 titles that are eligible to compete in such category.

AJ Jan 10 2022 10:12 pm @AK: I got the impression that the 2021 KBS Drama Awards panel tried to "shoehorn" as many actors and actresses (and even screenwriter) from "Young Lady and Gentleman" into as many award categories as possible, in order to increase this drama's popularity -- it's a still-ongoing drama, after all.

As the results, we see quite a number of award winners from this drama that are, to put it mildly, quite contentious.

That's why, in my opinion, dramas that have not finished their airplays in a certain year, shall *not* compete in that particular year's award ceremonies -- they shall compete in the year after that.

however where is jang nara?? I like ji hyunwoo in angry mom but in his current drama he is lacking a lot especially for daesang level... jang nara is definitely one of the most outstanding actress in KBS this year... I hope she won't work with you anymore because she deserves better

AJ Jan 05 2022 10:29 pm Personally I am still okay with having two, or even three winners, of a certain category, provided that: 1. There are at least 4-5 dramas that are eligible to contest such category. Perhaps at least 7 dramas, in case of three winners. 2. The joint-award decision is fully justifiable, i.e. there's very little or nothing that separates the joint-winners.

Also, between the awards "tiers", there shall be consistency. For example, to be nominated in the "Top Excellence Actors / Actresses" category, firstly one has to win his / her drama category (i.e. dailies / miniseries / shorties / long dramas). And the Daesang could only won by those who win in "Top Excellence Actors / Actresses".

Alternatively, the "Top Excellence Actors / Actresses" could be eliminated completely, so we would only have two tiers; namely, the base drama categories and Daesang (whose recipient shall be one of the winner of the base drama categories).

Wow Nara didn't win anything maybe because prizes are useless,it's not recognition or prize if you give it to everyone it motivates no one then,awards were meant for winner to be happy of achievement and others to look at,work and aspire to become better Such a joke everyone is a best couple so no one is

AJ Jan 03 2022 11:04 pm One thing I notice: All nominees who did not attend the ceremony, ended up not winning anything. The most notable names were, of course, Jang Na-Ra and Choi Myung-Gil: Both of them are nominated in their drama categories (miniseries and dailies, respectively), and even in the more top-tier "Top Excellence Actress" as well, but won nothing.

I wonder whether there's a KBS policy that requires nominees to attend the awards ceremony in order for them to have any hope of winning anything. If indeed it is, then shame on KBS. There could be some valid reasons why some actors and actresses could not attend; notwithstanding that the pandemic is still there, none the less in Korea.

Looks like domestic viewership rating is everything, is the "be-all and end-all"... so as you said below, my complain was "useless and nothing". No matter how outdated and overused are the plots / subplots / premises in the screenplay, as long as the drama achieves high domestic viewership rating, all is forgiven. Bravo!

Kyle Jan 01 2022 9:30 pm If you've watched the previous kbs awards ceremonies, it usually provides one award to a maximum of three winners. It's not new actually. Just be happy that a lot of actors are given honors to their hardworks..

H Jan 01 2022 7:36 am @AJ u can't complain, cuz YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN has the highest rating drama this 2021. It even surpassed 30% ratings. The other drama can't even surpass that drama . So ur complain is useless and nothing. Lol

Roe Jan 01 2022 12:09 am Peeps here saying too many winners, like dude, we should be happy that some of our favs got an award. It is much better because KBS shows that all of them has this big impact and privilege on their acting skills. Stop with that mindset! It's disgusting!
