Yoo Dong-Man (Cha Tae-Hyun) is a former detective. He worked as a detective for 20 years in various departments, including violent crimes and cyber crime. He would often act impulsively. Yoo Dong-Man now works as a professor at the police university. His rookie students include Kang Sun-Ho (Jin Young) and Oh Kang-Hee (Krystal). Kang Sun-Ho was a hacker and he is smart. Oh Kang-Hee is righteous and honest.

Vae Jul 28 2022 2:55 am Cha Tae Hyun made this drama worth watching. I liked the story..could have done without the romance...as a detective/Professor...he was great I loved him in Team Bulldog. His side kick, Sun-Ho was convincing as his partner...his enthusiasm and energy in wanting to investigate...but his little romance was boring...however, when the kids helped with the investigation...made it so more interesting. Sun-ho's friends were funny and showed what wonderful friends they were. All in all...great cast....well done!

starting with how yoo dongman (cha tae hyun) could easily trace the IP address of the so called hacker kid kang sun ho but he didn't until a certain episode by the way great job,hacker kid i mean i have never seen a hacker who could easily be traced like that and the whole circus/chase of who the culprit is amidst all the unwanted arcs and storyline (empty) nothing was accomplished,time was wasted.

Wanted to watch this solely because of Cha Tae Hyun but I fell in love with the whole cast!!!! <3 I thought it was just an ordinary rom-com kdrama but it was so much more than that!! Many perhaps are disappointed on why she had not been nominated in the main "Best Actress in Miniseries" category. But realistically, there are a lot of decent miniseries produced by KBS in 2021 (especially compared to 2020), with great performance from their lead actors and actresses, and I think Krystal would have struggled to win in such category -- even Jang Na-Ra did not win, for whatever reason known only to KBS.

But no worries, the future is definitely bright for Krystal, and there will be many other chances for her to be nominated and to win in main categories.

AJ Jan 03 2022 11:14 pm Congratulations to Cha Tae-Hyun for his joint-award in the 2021 KBS Drama Awards "Top Excellence Actors" category. He indeed deserves it; he truly nailed his role in this drama.

I would go as far as saying that he could be, and should be, among the actors or actresses considered for the Daesang -- but then, due to various considerations, it was decided to award the Daesang to a lead actor in a still-ongoing series.

Kris Oct 25 2021 8:04 am I liked it fine. However I really think the subway, lotion/makeup, beverage and phone commercials a little to distracting to the story. I’m sure the makers of the bracelet will be very happy. A 22 year old more worried about wrinkles than at 20? But no one tried to vacuum cleaner. Whew! US tv also has product placement but you just see the product they don’t stop the program to talk about it anymore. It’s like listening to talk radio in the US when suddenly they are promoting some service or product. I am also thrown off that he will be done with school at 25, done with military at 27 or so. He won’t start working full time until 28. Most have to retire by 60. Some will earlier because of the danger and physical demands of the job. 27 years is a lot time to prepare for a job you will have only around 30 years.

AJ Oct 11 2021 5:07 am I started watching "Police University" with enthusiasm -- after all, Cha Tae-Hyun is in it. I did try to like this drama, but somehow I agree with some posters below that it kinda slacked off, during approximately from 60 through 90 percent of its completion. Having said that, I think they've got the ending right and rather poignant.

So my personal, final verdict: A decent drama to watch, but perhaps they should have compressed it into an (at most) 14-episode one.

Jan Oct 09 2021 8:22 pm I really enjoyed this drama. Although it wasn't perfect, and some things could've been done differently, I still really loved this show. To be honest, I think it's mainly because of the characters. I grew really attached to them throughout the show. Everyone played their roles so well, and the cast had undeniable chemistry that it was hard to not enjoy this Kdrama.

(Spoiler) One part of the show that really stood out to me was how Jin Young developed his character. He portrayed Sun Ho so precisely, you can see how his character changes from start to finish. Especially how in the beginning, he just wanted to be with Kang Hee and then you see that once he gets with her, he begins to change. He becomes more insecure and desperate to demonstrate his worth and reassure himself that he is good enough to be with her. And by doing so, his character starts to begin to become selfish and obsessive about solving the case and proving his self worth. However, you can't be selfish in a relationship and not think about the other person, so it made sense when they broke up (even though I loved them together, it was the best decision for them). Lastly, after the two year time skip, you can clearly see the change in Sun Ho's character and how he has found his confidence and self love. Only then, it felt right when Sun Ho and Kang Hee got back together.

I kind of went on a tangent there, but as you can tell I am very passionate about this show. Not to mention, the whole last episode made me emotional because of the perfect ending they gave it. Anyways, I would say it was definitely worth the watch and I highly recommend it. I hope to watch more of these actors' dramas in the future <3

Michele Oct 09 2021 12:52 pm I thought this drama was just okay. Not bad, but not great. It was exciting in the middle but then I think it fizzled out. The romance between the leads was just meh. They under-utilized one of my favorite actors, Lee Jong-Hyuk. I say skip this one.

Altho Sun ho had to repeat but he never being forgotten by his friends and join together in Graduation photo with his ex-batch.

dewe Oct 06 2021 3:10 am started off great, but kinda deflated in the final third, too much focus on the illegal gambling ring investigation whilst sacrificing character and relationship development. also feel there's too much focus on prof yoo and sun ho's inner thinking and dialogues relating to the investigation. I wish they'd wrap it up after the 8th episode and focus on the dynamic of things happening in the university instead.

It goes beyond my expectation in trying to demonstrate family love, friendship and relationship. But, it goes below my expectation in term of characters (which are very badly written), the OSTs, and scripts. Someone like Mingyu does not have any significance or play an important role in all 16 episodes in relation to the illegal gambling investigation, except that he is only jealous up until he got another woman. Such a waste of such a great actor with great facial expression.

Kang Sun Ho is not dumb. He can hack into anything and he's loyal. I love his character. Especially growing from a physically weak into a strong man.

Oh Kang Hee on the other hand is a disappointment. Started as a stellar character but now she is someone who is just angry and sulking all the time.

Come on. She's on probation. She's not allowed to leave. She begs and and asks for a special leave. That in itself is already confusing. I was curious as to WHY.

Then she begs and breaks the rule asking for Extra Special permission so she can talk to someone who was in police custody. I thought she was going to over some super secret strategy with him. And she just wanted to break up with him?? She just wanted to whine?

That was so poorly written. That's totally opposite of what we expect of a strong FL. Instead she became whiny sulking girl again. Look at how BumTae and JunWook still have total trust in Sun Ho and support him..

AJ Sep 21 2021 12:41 am Personally, when assessing whether a K-Drama series is worth watching or not, I would not read too much into the so-called domestic viewership rating. After all, as far as I know, such rating only takes into account those who watch through conventional televised broadcasts. It's 2021; there are other ways to enjoy series or movies, such as streaming services, delayed broadcasts, and on-demand viewing.

Also as far as I'm concerned, Police University has always been broadcast simultaneously on KBS2 and a certain streaming media.

AJ Sep 17 2021 10:16 pm @Dave: I can see your point on Park Min-Kyu. I could imagine a scene where Kang-Hee (or even Seon-Ho) is in danger, and Min-Kyu sacrifices his life to save either or both. After all, throughout the history of films and cinema, there have been occassions of a person sacrificing his/her life so that the person he/she loves could live, and live happily -- as unrequited such love as it is.

vmin Sep 15 2021 2:15 am in my opinion, i doubt the mastermind is professor choi. i think she found out something about her ex-husband's death, that's why she's acting a little suspicious. and i doubt its professor kwon either. out of the 3 professors, professor seo is the most suspicious out of all.

but then again, in the latest episode, we found out that the department head Han is one of the people behind the crime. and i doubt its any of the students. so i believe its professor seo. its always the higher ups. lol

nillah Sep 13 2021 9:23 am The director of this series seems to want to direct the audience to choose one of the professors as the culprit. I actually think No Bum-Tae needs attention as one of the masterminds behind this illegal gambling (just my thoughts). Usually bad characters are unexpected. His demeanor seems to be very nervous, timid, and sometimes stutters. Truly a 'very innocent' character. He is also a roommate with Kang Sun-Ho, and knows Sun-Ho is good at computers. And vaguely (the figure of the man in the hat) who is in front of the computer, who is threatening Sun-Ho, even though it's dark, I think it looks like Bum-Tae. What triggered my suspicions, in episode 10: not only Prof Choi, Prof Kwon and Prof Seo who were on the phone, Bum-Tae also appeared to be calling his father via cellphone in front of his three friends, but was it true that he was calling his father? And he was also seen typing on his cellphone (possibly SMS) when Yoo Dong-Man gave a briefing about the gambling case to the others. Even if there is a conversation on the phone between Go Deok-Bae and the figure of 'Gyosunim' which is still a mystery, there might be another surprise. It's possible that Bum-Tae is also called Gyosunim by his 'colleagues', after all, if you look at his bio, the actor looks quite old as a freshman at the police academy.

UA Sep 13 2021 8:35 am i know YDM is reckless, but there's no use of calling through prof Go's phone. he's letting enemy knows he has 'evidence'. he only needs Seonho to deal with burner numbers. and why would Seonho use that app when he has been using private messages with YDM. i've always suspected head prof but they're now trying to make judo prof the most suspicious one.

@Dokin Chang are you talking about early episodes? YDM doesn't owe apology to anyone. and he got character development

Sunny_day Sep 12 2021 5:57 am I'm really liking this drama. I actually started this because of jinyoung. I really like him in love in the moonlight. But I did not expect that the story would be very interesting. Krystal is pretty as always and I like her chemistry with jinyoung. I like that the second male lead is rejected early in the series and that they did not drag that part of the story.

I am really curious on who is the real mastermind but I am now leaning on professor seo. I do not think that either prrofessor kwon or choi is a culprit. Maybe the director just want us to think that way.

Looking forward to the rest of the episodes!

i'm kinda sure judo prof and prof KHP is on a different side (meaning one of them is villain), both are having phone call which we dont know about what. one of them tip off the gambling site that's why they were about to run off. ep 11 preview is even more confusing, the writer & director really want us suspecting each side. this drama is starting to get even more interesting for sure

AU Aug 31 2021 7:45 am If Chuljin met someone from the shooting practice place, then the only possible criminal is within these 3 professors. the most suspicious one for now is the head or whatever, that oldest one, because shooting is his area. I cry a river when Chuljin take the fall. all his dirty act up until now is to protect Dongman's life

Fortunately, this drama comes along and my slump has come to an end! Even with only a few episodes, this drama successfully holds my interest. Now every Tuesday, I am very curious about what's coming next! I urge everyone that is finding a good drama to give this a try! This might be a good one for you too :)

I love the developing friendships between 1)the integrity FL and the sweet genius hacker but with integrity ML and 2)the honest, tough cop/professor and the hacker ML...writers, keep it up!!!

The rating would've been a lot lower if not for the 3 idols. I hate Det.Dongman's stupidity n impulsivity... It's ridiculous that he teaches future law enforcers when he is all brawl n no brain, n couldn't protect his partners. It's embarrassing to portray ROK's police this way. TvN's "Live" is much better. Still, it's mindless entertainment, which is what we need during this pandemic time

I second this! I’ve been in a kdrama slump for a few months and this one took me right out of one! The cast is so good, the story, the romance, the bromance, and i’m in love withe OST ‘get ready’ by D’tour

it is cheesy but i don’t really mind, i like the feel good nature of the drama

Also trust me their acting isn’t awkward at all, if there’s anything it’s scripted guys, the main lead is portrayed as a weak guy with no dream but genius, falling in love hence the awkward.. jinyoung and krystal chemistry is also chef’s kisses. I’m looking forward for every week now since im on my semester break! It’s hard keeping up with ongoing drama I’m suffering ??

I guess y'all use to, when it comes to this genre of drama, you want the ML to be the best Martial Arts Student or to learn from the best M.A. teacher or something and also, should be very intelligent, a bad boy and all that unrealistic stuff! Not all MLs needs to be extra extra over the top. I used to think like this too until I watched The Reputable Family and I changed my mindset about how MLs character should be...

I think Jinyoung is executing his part so well without mistakes and I know as we go deeper into the drama y'all's mindset about him all MLs in general will change!!!

AU Aug 16 2021 7:48 am that fellow freshman from team 3 idk his name is such a troublemaker : didn't listen to the captain (sunho), got himself hurt, yet still got accepted. i hate this kind of distracting character.. the villain is starting to appear but it seems like there'll be annoying characters here and there. and from the preview.. who tf in their university years bullying by doodling on someone's book.. so childish. but thank God we got dongman's character development in ep 3

Both are seniors who, at the onset, are annoying and act very tough on their juniors, even bordering on being a "flat-track bully" -- but it turn out they are actually people who deep down are morally sound, and when it really matters, do stand up for their juniors.

If you all watch the interview of Cha Tae Hyun with Jinyoung and Krystal he said that this drama is not just about crime and action, it is also about comedy and romance! And yes Cha Tae Hyun spoiled us a little that there was an episode with a kissing scene. Imma cry lol. So yeah. That's pretty much of it. So excited!!! Can't wait for anymoreeee.

No hating if there'll be a lovers but right now the main plot is not about romance. Also it's about police life suitable without romance between two leads. If there's little romance idc so much cause it's also part of the plot to become interesting. Just bit remind guys, if you like romance then go watch romance genre instead going to non-romance drama or you not sure the story have romance or not then demand romance between your fav leads.(Worst part some like hard shipper want their leads to be in a relay) In this story it seem can be like this two leads in a lovely friendship not couple. Can Be Like That Okay. No hate just stating opinion but if some of you still want romance/shipping them then go on. Not a problem to me ^3^ Still hyping this
