Detective Kaoru Utsumi (Kou Shibasaki) visits professor of physics Manabu Yukawa (Masaharu Fukuyama) and introduces new detective Misa Kishitani (Yuriko Yoshitaka) to him. This is done on orders from Detective Shunpei Kusanagi (Kazuki Kitamura) of The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department who graduated from same university as Manabu Yukawa.

Detective Kaoru keeps talking about a case in which a person fell to their death at the building of a religious group in Kamata. The victim fell from the the 5th floor of a building where the religious group "Kuai" resides. Apparently, the leader of the religious group (Takao Osawa) sent energy to the victim and he fell. Detective Kaoru shows pictures taken by magazine photographer of the incident. The pictures show that the group's leader did not touch the victim, but the victim's eyes became hazy. Manabu Yukawa becomes interested in the case and believes the incident can be proven scientifically.

Notes

Based on novels in the Galileo series - "Galileo no Kunou", "Seijo no Kyusai", "Kyojou no Doukeshi Galileo7", "Kindan no Majutsu Galileo8".
Masaharu Fukuyama and Kou Shibasaki will reprise the music duo of "KOH+" for the drama OST of "Galileo 2". KOH+ first formed for the original 2007 Fuji TV drama series "Galileo" and then 2008 film "Suspect X". For "Galileo 2", KOH+ will perform song "Koi no Maryoku" (literally "Magic of Love"). When the drama series airs in South Korea, Korean idol group Kara will sing a Korean version of "Koi no Maryoku" and A-Lin will sing a Chinese version "Koi no Maryoku" for the Chinese territories.

Michael Ann Bailey Mar 25 2025 6:07 pm Enjoyed this series. Fukuyama’s role is fun to watch. And he is quite handsome. One doesn’t have to “worry” about outcome as the hero will win. Good to have an interesting program that is not stressful in these stressful times. Thank you P. S. Would like to see this actor with a love interest some time… I watched this series in 2025… even though it came out much earlier.

Riri Sep 29 2022 10:25 pm I actually watched this series backwards, starting with the movie, then S2, then S1. In my honest assessment: Shibasaki Kou as Utsumi Kaoru had more natural chemistry and charm with the titular character than Kishitani (Yoshitaka). The comedy between Utsumi and Galileo is more laidback; and because Galileo is the way he is, I find Kishitani to be too "aggressive", throwing things out of balance. I don't know the reason for Shibasaki's replacement but there are some shows where the heroine gets replaced and it wouldn't matter;;; but it's not the case for this series which was written with Utsumi in mind. It'd be like replacing Nakama Yukie in Trick. It doesn't work.

That aside, I think the cases in S1 are slightly better, but the last case of S2 was fantastic.

Dada Jun 29 2015 6:24 pm Pretty disgusting and awful how they replaced the great Kou Shibasaki with a younger, more annoying actress only because they thought she was too "old." I only watched the first episode and when Utsumi was gone, so was I!

Az Mar 16 2014 10:33 pm I like the new actress much better. She is much smarter than the original actress and refreshing instead of annoying. I would have liked to have received the Geranium-ep1 (a clever gift). Very good show.

Tera May 24 2013 12:35 pm Well...i prefer season 1 compared to his...Kou shibasaki is more suiable for he main role....ii prefer her than yuriko...yuriiko seems overbearing playing the character although the character is almost similar to kaoru usutsumi but yuriko characer make me feel uncomfortable....prof. masabu should also tone down his character in his season...it seems more arrogant than the last one which make him become just too proud rather than eccentric....but the plot is magnificient as always...of course this is the second season and it should be different bu i can't help my self......subconsciously, i compared the two seasons...huhu
