Plot

The body of a male has been discovered, strangled to death, his face pulverized beyond recognition and fingers burned to a crisp. Assigned to the case are local precinct detective, Kaoru Utsumi, and her ex"colleague from headquarters, Shunpei Kusanagi. It turns out that the neighbor of the victim's ex"wife is a college alumnus of brilliant physicist, Manabu Yukawa, aka “Detective Galileo."He is Tetsuya Ishigami, a high school math teacher whom Yukawa personally considers a true genius. When Yukawa is brought onto help with the case by Utsumi, he begins to suspect that this “true genius"and a with whom Yukawa shares a bond of friendship as an intellectual equal is somehow connected to the murder. Elaborate bluffs, false testimonials, loopholes in logic − all begin to appear in Detective Galileo's way as if intentionally placed as a challenge by someone with mathematical brilliance.

Kitsune Aug 09 2023 8:53 am It’s not as “lighthearted” as Galileo as it’s a whole lot more serious and dark in this one. A tragic story of how one selfish drunkard ruins the life of 3 people. Makes you wonder what is truth and justice? It’s a good example of why some people give up believing in the system. Everyone wants to know who is the killer but no one wants to know how or why the person becomes a killer.

(SPOILER ahead) While, I understand that justice needs to be served and whoever committed the crime should be punished so it does make sense that Ishigami, Nanaoka and Misato should be tried and punished accordingly, I still feel sorry for all of them because they are all good people who were forced to commit a crime all because of one evil creep. If Yakawa did not reveal the truth to Nanaoka, she wouldn't have felt too guilty to confess. I think she was more accepting that Ishigami tried to cover up for her but she couldn't take it that he actually became a real murderer for her so she decided to confess and atone for her crime. But because she has decided to accept punishment, all of Ishigami's efforts to protect her and her daughter will now be for nought. I'm sure as a mother, she'll say she did it on her own but if they found the glass ball and the creep's body then they'll find out the daughter helped and they will all be put to prison and juvie. I can't help thinking that Yukawa shouldn't have told Nanaoka since, as Ishikawa said, that truth will not make anyone happy. I understand that if you kill someone, you have to be punished by law. It's just infuriating that it had to happen to good people all because of one child-molesting abusive bastard.

Just cause you watched this movie after 2013 doesn't mean this movie was released after 2013 plz check properly before concluding something this movie was released in 2008 and DRISHIYAM was realized in 2013 how the h#%^* this could be adaptation of that m^*r^*n , do ur homework before saying stupid stuff

Fancy neither the Indian movie has been inspired from this one as both are total different stories way way way different as I watched both

Please enjoy the film rather than going for accusation adithi ur the worst film critic for comparing DRISHIYAM and this movie may god bless ur brains

Adith Feb 02 2014 8:38 am An Indian film titled DRISHIYAM in malayalam language had the same plot & was a huge success. The film is being made into several other Indian languages. Its plagiarism. I'm sure the makers have made this without obtaining the rights.Anybody related to this film should get into the act & stop this.

It is indeed a must watch. Yakawa Manabu has become one of my favourite characters in all the dramas and movies I've seen.
