When those oppas were just doing their romcoms (about years 2008-2011), with many people fangirling them simply because they were the main leads in their dramas, this actor already had a resume of having portrayed very different roles. I liked him as the girly Sayong in Jumong, the good King Jeongjo in Painter of the Wind, the villainous Kim Yang in Emperor of the Sea, as well as his roles in Temptation of an Angel, Dong Yi, and Brilliant Legacy/Shining Inheritance. I really wish he gets a chance to play King Sukjong. One is because he already showed he can be a regal and charismatic king as shown in Painter of the Wind. Number two is that he had already shown fantastic chemistry with the main lead actresses in Dong Yi (a drama which he was also a part in) in other dramas. He was Han Hyo Joo's (Dong Yi lead) one sided lover in both Shining Inheritance and Dong Yi itself. Lee So Yeon (Jang Ok Jung in Dong Yi) was also paired with him in the revenge melodrama Temptation of an Angel. Number three is that another partner, Hong Soo Hyun (Inhyeon of Jang Ok Jung Live in Love) was also in Temptation of an Angel and they also had good chemistry there. Seeing him playing kind and positive characters I was caught by surprise by his role in 49 Days. I had mixed feelings towards the character he played as it was complex and interesting. I agree that you should be given leading roles rather than portraying men who could not reach the lead girls like in Shining Inheritance. Frankly speaking, you acted much better than the male lead actor in that film. Or is it your strengths to show repressed feelings of an unrequisited love? I love to see you shine.
