Based on popular manga series "Rurouni Kenshin" written & illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki (published in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 2, 1994 – November 4, 1999).
Filming began July 1, 2013 and finished December 27, 2013. Filming took place in Ibaraki, Yamagata, Kumamoto, Shiga, Hyogo, Kyoto, Nagano, Tochigi, Chiba, Kanagawa and Tokyo, Japan. More than 5,000 extras were used for the film.

holly Jun 13 2020 10:59 am Glad finally seeing Kaoru's fight scene. But I feel like she seems week. Idk if the actress didn't act it well or else, bcz I expect a bad ass kaoru that turned out meh. It's like she doesn't even have any power.

Yu Dec 01 2017 1:18 am As a child, I've always been a fan of Kenshin Himura. He was my childhood. And seeing Takeru Satoh give life to Kenshin, I am really happy. He is the perfect actor for Kenshin. His acting and fighting skills were commendable. Overall, the movies did not disappoint me. I will surely watch this trilogy again and again. Hoping for the 4th movie to come out soon!

The film and the fighting choreography was mind blowing you will not regret putting this in your movie collection.

I am hoping for a fourth movie.

"Mighty Long Fall" is for the second movie and "The Beginning" is for the first one. All by One Ok Rock.

Anyways, since I watched the first movie in 2012 and now the last 2 I became a total fan of Takeru. I have seen all his shows and I must say I really like him in all of them although the plots are sometimes a bit .. well.. dull..

My personal favorite is the Emperors Cook, Rurouni Kenshin and ofc The Liar and his Lover!

Im waiting to get to see way way more of Takeru!!!!

Zagatho Jan 14 2015 12:56 pm @ace I agree with you, you are not alone. It was a bit disappointing as they veered far away from the original story. Very disppointed with Usui's duel (if you could call it that) with Saito. The other fight scenes were great though as with the two previous movies. Having said those negative points about the movie it still is the best live action adaptation of an anime.

ace Jan 13 2015 10:40 pm I expect I will be one of the lone voices but i was very disappointed with this movie. The first two were fairly ok. Not exactly great but certainly enjoyable to watch. But the 3rd installment was so disappointing. While I was certainly a fan of the manga and anime, I'm not judging it by the movie-is-never-as-good-as-the-book rule. But by how much good source material there was and how it was ignored as well as how the stellar cast seemed shunted off screen in favor of less interesting characters for no reason that I could see. But for me the greatest sin was the action. It just fell flat for me. I mean, I actually got bored watching the fights. Always a bad sign.

candymiley Oct 12 2014 9:34 am I already watch the part 1 and I was very amaze to the characters especialy to Takeru Satoh who very successfully did the role being the Kenshin Himura.. I know this as Samurai X on TV series.. I also read the original in manga that I learned on it forget the past continue to fight to protect something but never kill again.. I'm really sad that I missed there visit here in the Philippines.. Two thumbs up for this movie series! I love the chemistry between Takeru and Emi they really did the Kenshin and Kaoru role! Hope they will have movie again together! I also like the one who role the soujiro! its Munetaka! astig din sya!! =) Congratulations to all casts of Rurouni Kenshin!! Arigatou!!

Amazing Sep 27 2014 6:54 am @anon_boy it seems you watch a wrong movie..... shishio didn't avoid killing he long for battle.... he thirst for battle..... if you listen to his line.... he said "it's been so long since I had this kind of fight"..... for shishio it was the battle that he long.... and will only get it from kenshin...... better watch it again my friend and try to understand it.....

Like Sano vs Anji, Saito vs Usui and Kenhin vs Aoshi and then Soujiro... I know a little things about the 2nd live action... If will end on the "purgatory ship" how possibly will begin the 3rd one? I cannot imagine the 3rd film with all the fights of kenshin and company against juppongatana group. All of that fights without story in the middle? I really want to know. I accept any answer
