Kenshin Himura (Takeru Satoh) is a legendary swordsman. After the Meiji Restoration, he has stopped killing with the sword. He tries to live a peaceful life with Kaoru Kamiya who runs a swordsmanship school in the village. Things change. Akabeko Restaurant, which is Kenshin Himura’s favorite place to eat, is destroyed. Kenshin Himura finds a note written “Junchu” there.

Based on popular manga series "Rurouni Kenshin: Junchuhen“ by Nobuhiro Watsuki (published in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 2, 1994 – November 4, 1999).
Filming for the final two movies began November, 2018 and finishes May, 2019.

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the release date has been changed from July 3, 2020 to golden week, 2021 (April 29-May 5, 2021).

elle Jul 24 2022 11:10 pm fights are amazing but everything else is questionable. kaoru is supposed to be important in jinchuu arc. like she’s the heart of this arc. instead we barely see her, kenshin behaves like she’s only a friend (i cant believe how much the other friends try to scream ‘ohhh they’re in relationship!’ to show the viewer they’re in relationship). hell, i barely feel any emotion from kenshin even when she’s kidnapped by this person who wants to take revenge. kenshin is way too ooc in this, he’s not some emotionless dude. the director wants to highlight that tomoe is somehow the most important in these two movies, kaoru the main love interest is just cameo lol ?

i get that tomoe is important, she’s the reason why enishi takes revenge, but that’s not the point? you are supposed to see kenshin truly suffers here (the manga really highlights this point) but i dont see him get depressed or anything like it barely matters. just another villain we need to take down and move on lol. i was really disappointed as a fan from the jinchuu arc. not to mention the movie is so damn dark in lighting, 80% of the scenes are just black with some rim light, i just dont really like it

they should have made this two parts, im sure it would be better. i feel like the beginning might be better from the flashbacks they showed here bc apparently they truly make it a love story. i guess the director likes kenshin/tomoe better ? kaoru is just some ‘i win bc im still alive’ girl i guess (taken from the real quote from this movie, truly inspiring)

Kengo Soujiro Oct 25 2021 11:46 pm I don't have any attachments to this franchise or its source material so the argument that I would be braindead from watching this is an argument with no real basis and I can only assume this is just a comment to insult the film.

The action is great with a good one, two rhythms which is not a bad thing considering that was the intention of the director.

(I seriously don't get why people needed this movie to have more dramatic fights? if you hire Kenji Tanigaki who've worked on kungfu movies in Hongkong for its fight choreography you're not going get an emotionally weighted fight scene, it still has a few but that wasn't the intention, it's not a bad argument to have it's just misplaced)

but a lot of fight scenes were poorly lidded so I couldn't see much. the last Fight was great because it was more brightly shot and you could see what was happening. Compare to the previous fight scene's in this franchise I don't assume the fights in this movie are going to be reposted on social media too much.

I'm not a fan of this movie, but I don't consider it bad, I felt The Beginning (which is much more of a drama movie with emotionally weighted fight scenes) to be much better.

Jinchuu arc is the most important for Kenshin cz it show how Kenshin live his life in new era with Kamiya friends. But hell the film too much show Tomoe. Lack of emotion and meaning. Kaoru and Sano look like a cameo here. they are sidelined even if you read the manga, Sano and Kaoru are precious character for Kenshin.

The Final only like a gate for The Beginning..

@eskimo And the action wasn't over the top; both of their styles are that powerful. But I don't understand the point of Soujiro; it should have been Sano fighting with Kenshin instead.

@emily I didn't feel much emotion from Kenshin/Satoh but I could feel the hatred and sadness from Arata/Enishi.

Emily Jun 26 2021 1:06 pm 2hr 20 min is tooooo long a movie for the plot point. I agree with "Eskimo"'s comment. The narrative was so poor....Not the same as the last 3 at all. Action and fight scenes were super amazing as usual, but I hardly felt any emotions from the movie. it was so anti-climactic. Nevertheless, watch it. It's not bad as such. But I did keep exceptions as low as possible.

Brings back old character for absolutely no narrative purpose (the addition soujiro seemed like a last minute decision with zero set-up) besides to appeal to long time fans of the franchise. Action scenes and fight choreography are decent but also way over the top. Recommend this for fans but anyone else might become braindead by the end of the movie.

Casual Jun 19 2021 7:54 pm I agree with the comment that said "Sano is too sidelined". I am a fan of Sano in the live-action series and my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. His character might not really be the strongest or anything but he at least deserved a good solo action in the Final. I mean it is the Final, why can't he get one last good fight. Right? Other than that, the movie is really amazing in other aspects AS ALWAYS. Some people might think that this live-action series is only good because it stands out among the other live-action movies. But actually no. This movie is already good if you look at it as a movie standpoint not as a live-action anime movie. Recommend 100%.

Areta Jun 19 2021 8:06 am I watched “The final” and it is a great movie, with intense fighting scenes, and -a deep dramatic struggle between Kenichi and Kenshin. Takeru Sato and Mackenyu Arata simply are remarkable. Takeru is always really committed to his character, and u can see Kenshin suffering for all the chaos Kenichi spreads in the village, the grieve for Tomoe, and his concern about his friends and Kaoru. Mackenyu is visceral in his role, we can see the violence os Kenichi, his sorrow and hatred, fiercely represented. Meu Takei is always sweet as Kaoru, and can transmit the emotions of Kaoru beautifully. A great finale for a so good series.
