Former legendary assassin Kenshin Himura (Takeru Satoh) has now become a wandering samurai. Offerring aid & protecting those in need as atonement for his past deeds. During this time Kenshin Himura comes across and aides Kaoru Kamiya (Emi Takei). Her father opened the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu, a kendo school located in Tokyo and Kaoru is now an instructor there. Kaoru then invites Kenshin to stay at her dojo. Their relationship develops further, but Kenshin is still haunted by his violent past ...

Billie Jun 11 2020 8:03 am I'm impressed by the movie!! Its epicness and its action scenes made me love even more the samurais and the Japanese culture! Live-action films are not usually made so epic and magnificent, but this movie was just incredible!

Zephy Lee Aug 30 2017 1:21 am My only rant from this film was the story of Oniwabanshū (the organization lead by Shinomori Aoshi) should have been part of this film.

In the anime: Aoshi became Kanryu's personal bodyguard (in the film he is on Shishio's side)

Aoshi believed that his long-missed chance to prove the superiority of the Oniwabanshū had finally come. Unfortunately, Kanryū's wicked deception and greed cost Aoshi's men. Becoming obsessed with defeating the Battōsai at any cost in order to gain the title of "the strongest" and bestow that title upon the graves of his fallen comrades.

They should have follow the story arc I was fairly disappointed I was actually looking forward for Han'nya.

Bless Nov 01 2016 1:20 pm The movie was great...!!!..best movie live action of all times...but part 1 is the best part of the movie..i guess...the scene where miss kauro and kenshin first met..and saved her....it was about kenshin made an oath not to kill again..but to saved..using his weird sword....and he met kauro who never judge him..and believe he can be change as normal kenshin himura..and lived with new goals in life to saved people especially those who important to him..he learn that swords brings to life not to kill but to depend our beloved ones...the part 2 and 3 was focus on the battle and fight scene...it was great...its totally amazing action but I just hope that kauro and kenshin express their love for each other...at the end of the story...so that they will live happily ever after...

But, thanks to this live action movie so I start to become Kenshin fans. Kenshin swordsplay in this movie really made me freezing. So beautiful and fast, that I almost didn't catch every single move. Honto ni arigatou gozaimashita...

Jaymori Oct 02 2014 8:21 pm I have always LOVED the SAMURAI X since i was very little, I remember, I was in 5th grade when I first saw a drawing of kenshin from another student.and watched it when i turned 12.I became an avid FAN, and watched the series a hundred times over.I never thought that they will make a LIVE ACTION of the animated series.I am 27 years old now and It feels so NOSTALGIC to see the live action.reminds me so much of my childhood. :D

Masterpiece?

Seven Samurai, Ran, Harakiri (Kobayashi's original film), Sansho the Bailiff and Sword Of Doom are masterpieces. This movie isn't even close to that level of film making.

It's a nerd film for fans, plain and simple. I'm a fan of Rurouni Kenshin myself but also a samurai films enthusiast and this movie is not that good.

I don't really familiar with Keishi Ohtomo's work but this movie is absolutely a master piece. I watch this movie more than 10 times and still get addicted and fascinated by the beauty of the art work.

Even though i don't really like Munetaka Aoki coz for me he's not that tall enough for being a sanosuke but he can capture sanosuke's characther very well (good actor).

as a Watsuki Nobuhiro's fan, i really satisfy with Keishi Ohtomo's work. Although he did change some story to mix the whole story but thats really not ruin anything.

I think this is the best live action movie for me, the sense, the heart, the feel, they all exactly the same like when i read and watch the anime.

The director also did a great job which was also shown when you watched the behind the scenes. The outcome was great and even though it is far from the animated one, the story was not dramatically changed (there are just additionals) but all in all, It is a great film and must watch for otakus of samurai X

I really appreciate those who had worked hard in making this movi-version. Two thumbs for the cast Takeru Sato who is really resemble the main character Kenshin Himura.

Carlos Jun 21 2013 8:07 pm I'm not Watsuki to know what he thinks about this film. All I know is that Kenshin had the potential for a really good movie, a samurai classic and they decided to make a cartoon flick.

I love samurai movies and in my opinion some of them are the best movies ever made. This isn't a genre like Wuxia or the Kung fu flick where you have crappy character development and poor acting in pretty much all of them, some of those samurai movies have amazing film-making behind them.

Rurouni Kenshin is at his best when it takes itself seriously and falls apart when the cartoony parts appears. The bad guys in this movie ruined the film for me, sorry.

Chris Dec 29 2012 7:00 pm Anybody else got the feeling that this version of Gein is actually a blend of Gein and Enishi? He has Gein's mask and also the puppet master's strings, but his look under the mask as well as his tachi blade and fighting style are more in line with Enishi.

(Come to think of it, the guns could also refer to Heishin and the long black hair and shoulder spikes point to Hyoko, cramming most of the six comrades into a single character)

Takeru Sato did a great job on performing the personality of Kenshin Himura! A movie worth watching for, again and again, and again!

Oniwanbanshu does not appear in this movie at all even though Kanryu is one of the villains, Saito is introduced from the beginning and is in most of the scenes

I hope they do this well, From the trailer it actually looks good! I think he actually looks like kenshin, I'm not sure about kaoru but i'd get over that as long as it's great enough, It's gonna take ages after this is releashed for it to be uploaded with subs though :( But it's releashed the day after my bday yahh!

Oh also Am i the only one annoyed with people that think the ova's were real??? Obviously they weren't, They were made by some random directors etc that just decided that, even The author of the manga was furious with the ending, The real ending is a happy one! <3 The ova's are just a "bonus" (one that i could of lived without)Not canon.
