If it wasn't for Kim Hee Sun, it would have been a different story. Director forgot that it's a film, it's supposed to be fake but convincing. I am in the middle of watching "Can we get married" and I really enjoyed "Madame Antoine" as well...both of these made me incredibly nostalgic and made me think about my childhood and my reality now...the way he captures an atmosphere through his directing is absolutely beautiful! I hope he keeps making lovely dramas and movies. This process is second nature to me, yet I don't think I've ever seen it captured on film in such a real and sweet way. I still smile at the scene where Kim Sun-A tries a bit of French, then settles on just plodding along with her few words of English and blindly forging along in Korean, knowing Daniel will get at least something from voice intonation and facial expression. Love Daniel's quiet smiles and tilt of the head to signify he doesn't understand the words but is happy to be in conversation with her anyway. I know that feeling so well. So well. Meg Ryan, in "French Kiss" sort of does this, but with Daniel, we can tell it's really happening.
