He's so much older than the third and fourth lovely wife...poor Gong li in the role who eventually goes mad after seeing the third wife hanged in the death room...sordid! An interesting movie though to see the morals in CHINA at the beginning of the 20 th century or in the early 1900's and the destiny of poor women who wanted to marry a master and maybe were forced to this status...
