Set during the end of the Goryeo period to the early Joseon period. Two friends aim their swords against one another due to differences in opinion about "my country."

Seo Hwi (Yang Se-Jong) is a warrior. His father Seo Geom is a famous commander. Seo Hwi does not compromise when it comes to injustice. His life devolves into a hellish existence, but he still holds a smile.

Nam Seon-Ho (Woo Do-Hwan) is smart and a talented figure. Because his mother was born into the lowest class, Nam Seon-Ho is looked down upon by other people. He wants to pass the military service examination. Due to a corruption scandal involving his father, Nam Seon-Ho loses his dream. Making things worse, he comes into conflict with Seo Hwi over a misunderstanding.

Dee Mar 03 2022 12:45 am I have been looking for a good sageuk to watch after finishing 6 flying dragons years ago and this was the only one that ever came close to it. Most sageuk revolve around typical romance or male/female disguise which are typical, forgettable and boring themes. This one is not your average theme. It was a really good watch, and I hope they make more dramas like this.

TLDR: stop reading the comments and just watch it. seriously, just click play. the next thing you'll know is you're typing how it's a masterpiece in this comment section.

I usually fast forward dramas, and for historical dramas, the political scenes can get very slow and boring so sometimes I just skip those. The forced brotherhood can feel cringy too. But not this one, I did not forward even a single scene. Loved the brotherhood, it was not cringy at all. In fact, the theme of relationship is so balanced that it makes sense that the title is "my country". In the end it wasnt about the formation of Joseon, but it's the people you love, those are your country. It did not just highlight romance between the main actor & actress, every bond was equally special and highlighted - friends, comrades, siblings, lovers. The cast did an AMAZING job, I was honestly impressed with their acting. I was even more susprised Janghyuk was in this drama and of course, he played Bang Won well (I thought nobody can play bang won like Yoo Ah In did til janghyuk). Just wish he had more sword fight scenes.

Don't get me started on Seon Ho & Hwi. Urgh, the brotherhood. I did get annoyed with Seon Ho a lot of times, and I have to say one of the shortcoming of this drama is I dont get what is Seon Ho's actual problem to be honest. I get it when he wanted to kill his own dad, but after his dad died he wanted to kill Bang Won? like err ok for what exactly. Like the justification of his just doesnt make any sense. and the time he spent with Hwi towards the end was so short :( I knew he was gonna die soon. I actually laughed when Bang Won almost killed him but Hwi came, and Seon Ho was like "damn it" while half rolling his eyes. Then he told Hwi why do you make it so hard for me to die hahaha. The ending scene got me crying buckets of tears. I didnt expect to cry to be honest, but that scene was so good. The part when Seon Ho died but he was still sitting. and waiting for Hwi. and when they had that last talk. and when Hui Jae came running and Hwi smiled as the door closes. The arrows. It was a masterpiece ending.

Hui Jae was amazing too. I really liked how she was not too girlish or that whatever typical female main type in historical dramas. She conveyed emotions well, and her facial expression in that ending scene? Tears. She was good and she had great chemistry with Hwi.

Mun Bok, Chi do and the rest. omg why are they so funny T.T

This drama was really brilliant. I hope they make more of this kind of drama because I'm honestly tired and bored of those typical romance sageuks. Kudos to the production team.

The humor made it less intense which gave me time to breath as the action was packed in every episode. I loved the beauty of the shots. I'd watch it again in a heartbeat!

And why is Sambong's character not shown fully when he is an important key in the attempted murder of King Yi Song Gae son's from his first wife? My favorite actor in this drama is Jang Hyuk as Yi Bang Won.

Maleu Aug 02 2021 7:03 am Just finished this masterpiece. Let me start with cinematography,every scene was captured artistically amazing. The musics are just making everything extremely epic. Those fight scenes are dragging us inside, definitely very successful production. I watched some behind the scenes and added sound effects are marvelous making everything more awesome. About drama ** I love the characters each was so unique and this drama was definitely not a cliche. The good and evil balance was so great that it actually shows people can change which is more realistic. Unlike other dramas an evil is not entirely evil it’s actually great that you can’t decide whether you support which side :D leaves you in dilemmas. The character hwi,yang sejong did such a great job that I fell in love with his acting, wodohwan is also didn’t act but lived those scenes. And my dear Jang hyuk He’s as expected also great. The drama actually tells you from the beginning that “dude don’t expect happy fluffy drama from me, mma be full of tears and blood.” So you better don’t expect happily lived after dreams. I definitely think it’s underrated,lots of effort and great work done. It will drag you inside so go definitely watch it! Andd Music Coming From Ma Vlast (my country)classical music piece which also made me love it more!

I wished I could get hold of the marvelous Korean herbs, tea, root, grass, mud, dust fungus, and sand that keeps one going after so many slashes, cuts, stabs, pricks, wounds, as all of them received in a fight to the point of death, and be ready to jump in the next fray as though nothing had happened. All of those soldiers are treated by medicine men with their clothes on and barely soaked in a miraculous ointment that rejuvenates and sends them back to life next morning to face more wounds and cuts. If the whole yarn is not only imaginary but fantastic, with only a vague flavor of old Goryeo history, do the directors really needed to push his two main heroes go the brink of death trough 16 chapters of penuries, war and sacrifices, to let them horribly killed at the end in order leave the villain enjoying his crimes with the indifference and nonchalance with what he opens his fan?

Struckdownbutnotdestroyed Apr 03 2021 8:30 pm This comment came 1 year late. I could have written this when it was sailing in the airwaves but I also have only watched this Kdrama recently. I have read the mix comments and one thing that I agreed on is the powerful performances of the actors especially the mesmerizing Yang Sejong. The Cinematography, compared to some few sageuks that I have watched, by far this is exceptionally good. The panoramas, the shots, the takes, they are weaved into a beautiful orchestra. In fact I have rewatched , and the only sageuk that I watched, over 5 times already. I never grew tired of it. Maybe because of how this kdrama really evokes plenty of emotions from you. I love the character arcs of the main actors, the power struggle between the General and his son Bangwon for the throne. The family values that are gently laced into story. The story of friendship, brotherhood, loyalty... This kdrama deserves more attention, but i think probably it will in the coming years. To those who have not watched this, I hope you'll give it a chance. One of the best cinematic background music as well. If i would rate this i give it 8/10.

Lez Mar 29 2021 3:38 am Seriously, the second male lead (Woo Da-Han) my gosh, he's an amazing actor. Not saying the other one is bad. But WDH eyes can really convey every emotions, pain, etc. I was more invested in him and felt really unfair for his character. If only this drama have given us some back story of the two male leads as to how they became so close. Instead of having the side kick doctor and his love interest. It was so unnecessary. A really waste of screen time. I'd love to see WDH in this genre and play the main lead. I watch this cuz of him after finishing Save me and again he stole the show. He needs to be recognized.

Marathon24 Mar 25 2021 7:00 am A bit confusing and boring at some parts. I wouldn't have finished it if it weren't for Jang Hyuk. I think his character (Yi Bang Won) is the strongest here. He nailed his role as a strong prince. He clearly is at a different level compared to the other main characters. The romance is boring and unnecessary. I always skip the romantic scene between Hwi and Hui Jae, LOL. Apart from that, the historical part is ok.

Among its many artistic qualities, I especially LOVED Seo Hwi’s character and Yang Saejong’s powerful and touching performance. Hwi’s love for his sister whom he raised almost like a father, Hwi’s loyalty to his friends whom he saved so many times, Hwi’s sad love with Hui Jae, and of course Hwi’s heartbreaking friendship with Seon Ho… I love all the characters, but I find Hwi the most fascinating and compelling, because he is the only one who isn’t expecting anything from others. Before getting betrayed by his friend, Hwi is only wishing for a simple and quiet life. Being thrown into the turmoil of war, he reveals a huge talent and leadership skills in combat. His human qualities also make him befriend trustworthy people. However, this young hero is not flawless. At some point, when the moral and physical pain become too much to handle, he lets himself consumed with his thirst for revenge. Still, Hwi keeps his dignity until the end. He is profoundly human and admirable.

Yang Saejong’s marvelous acting gives this beautiful character justice. When he is fighting on the battlefield, My Country becomes lyrical, epic and astounding. When he is crying, the whole world seems to be collapsing at once. His eyes tell a million emotions, even when he is no speaking. His appearance is both gorgeous and elegant. His voice is deep and sexy, and his tone, diction, pronunciation and voice projection are remarkable, as shown in his scenes with Jang Hyuk and Kim Young Cheol. Not only that, but Saejong has great chemistry with each of his co-stars, especially Woo Do Hwan and Jang Hyuk. Even Seolhyun gives the best of herself in his presence.

When I watched My Country for the second time, I enjoyed every bit of his performance even more. I hope he keeps on choosing heavy series like this one in the future, because he is made for them.

Nadine Feb 04 2021 10:05 am One of the most authentic and best sageuk drama I've ever watch, strong storyline, even though it's not easy to watch but that makes this drama feel authentic. Especially Yi Bang Won character and the strife princes are exposed deeper, and I think in this drama we get to know more about Yi Bang Won closer to accurate history, a very ruthless prince, and no one can have that role better other than Jang Hyuk. All casts are performed really great, the cinematography is awesome, feels like a movie. Very worth watching.

bluesky12 Dec 15 2020 4:45 pm The cinematography was great as well as the costumes and actors but the plot fell apart after around ep 9 or 10. Those many intrigues, killings, betrayals, switching sides etc started to get too dragged and boring, too repetitive, too overdone. You just get lost in the middle of it and stop paying attention. It would have been pretty great if it ended around ep 10 or so. I feel like they just kept adding conflicts just to prolong the drama to 16 eps. I liked the bromance but the romance here was, I think, totally unneccessary, I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters and it just felt forced - a boring side-plot. I skipped the last 5 eps and just quickly fast-forwarded them to finish the drama. Some characters should have died when they were stabbed the first time but they kept coming back to life, that was kind of annoying. Nam-Jeon's character was totally the worst, almost unbearable to watch. Woo Dohwan was amazing, just like he always is.

boo Oct 10 2020 10:28 am if you're hesitating to watch this, i assure you to not. this drama is totally underrated, i felt regret to not watch it during it's airing as i just finished it yesterday. the cast totally perfect for each roles, they played each part and scene very well. some people said that the romance scene is somehow unnecessary as they focused on the friendship between hwi and seonho but i think the romance between hwi and huijae also played a part in wrecking our heart.

hwi and seonho's friendship is totally out of this world, they always back each other eventhough one of them once said to not be friends anymore.

now i can't even listen to the ost without crying my heart out. i guess this drama held a special place in my heart. there's no drama that makes me bawling my eyes out in the middle of the night until i watched this. really recommended for someone who wants to bawl your eyes out. yes, i love suffering

I kinda of think that U had a limit to how many episodes this show should be or how long the total viewing hour or even the finances behind shooting and such...perhaps other engagement for the actors. It's a well seasoned drama . The architecture...hmmm...I pray south Korea is like that, I intend to visit. Because of this show, I wish to marry a South Korean even. The bromance was so much that it made me forward a few places. The person who decided to give Hwa-Wol and Park Mun Bok a soundtrack Everytime they meet is super insane and intelligent. Plus please does Park Mun Bok laugh like that in real life? That would be nice to see. I love the costume too. Plenty extravagance...elaborate hairdo...am in love with South Korea and thank you for making my week splendid. God bless U. Can U recommend a show just as wonderful for me? Thanks

Alexey Sep 28 2020 4:52 pm Ok. I dont really know what to say. After episode 8, I felt like things started to go wrong way. Absolutely wrong. I'm not satisfied with script. I dont really know how to say, but there were too much intrigues. Like, Too Much. One just cant kill another without killing 100-200 useless soldiers that just die super quickly and constantly in every episode, while the characters live no matter what. The script went too ambitious in the second half of the show. The ending was still impactful, but felt rushed. I cant believe what an amazing job actors did, but script... script was the weakest part of the show. Sorry. It went downhill. Maybe they had to put it all in 16 episodes at the end, I dont know. Felt empty from the ending. Actually, the whole series now feels like a love story between Seo Hwi and Seon Ho. They had great chemistry. Still, a bit disappointed with how it turned out with Bang Won. Jang Hyuk did an outstanding job. One another great role of his.

Alexey Sep 18 2020 10:03 am Watched 4 episodes so far, but even judging from first one you can tell. This is stunning drama. Cinematography is literally the best. Haven't seen such beautifully and well directed drama. Almost every scene is stunning. You never get bored. Theres plenty of emotions. Action - theres a lot and it's perfectly filmed. Like no shaky cams and unclear movement while fighting. Everything just looks amazing. Script is complex, sometimes very complex, but not in a bad way. It's just becoming more interesting and intriguing, although at times can confuse. If you looking for the series you wouldnt regret taking time to watch, this is just it. It's perfect.

The plots, storylines, cinematographies, and the character developments are really perfectly made and well it's so freaking good. I cried many times where I'm not a type who can easily cry, but this drama really makes me having a sea of tears. I think this drama was really that angst. Especially Woo Do-hwan character, Nam Seon-ho, how I wish he could be happier. I keep questioning the storyline, like it's still ep 4/5/6 but feels like the drama was going to end really soon. And that's not only once, but several times lmao this drama really had an interestingly heavy stories. Also, people might be not liking the ending, but I really love it. It's ended so well for me. My fav sageuk drama was Moon Lovers, but just now My Country is being my fav sageuk drama. It's more complicated than Moon Lovers and I think both of those dramas were angst, too. So, yes this is my fav!!

I felt so bad for the two main characters and at the same time so jelous. If you are lucky to find s friend and have the relationships these two have in the drama. There Romance but this story is about true friendship. Living in those times was very difficult, if you didn’t come from a wealthy family. The sword fights and war parts were truly awesome! I bet difficult to shoot! This drama does not disappoint. I truly enjoyed it even though the ending is heart breaking. It was very realistic historically. Please, watch it! I truly recommend it! The acting if course is perfection! Loved it!

He was such a complex person who was so full of pain and passion. His story was really heartbreaking and I loved how Hwi and Seon-ho’s friendship stayed strong through all the turmoil. I feel like Seolhyun was perfect for her role as Hui-jae. She’s so majestic and elegant and her voice is so commanding. Also bang-won... what an evil guy!! I’ve got to admit though, the way he would flip his fan was so cool

It's simply because he was the only character who had a reasonable goal that's he tries to achieve which is giving low borns basic rights pushed by strong emotional reasons to do whatever it take to accomplish it in form of his late mother who pressures him as a kid to make a country where people like her would live decently before she committed suicide and his own struggles with his statues while Bang Won my second fav character's goal mad no sense to me as he wanted a country of abandoned but in his eyes only his only Hwi and him are abandoned i don't need to speak about Hwi as he started making no sense by the end of the series and i didn't understand why he was doing what he's doing and what's going on his head being in BW's side what values he stands up for?! however Seon Ho really had a valid reasons behind everything he did with Hwi people just needs to pay more attention no his scenes to get it. He also has more reasons to be bad than anyone else in the show bad rising abandonment by literally everyone..etc yet he still was more of a human than BW and chose self destruction or giving up his dreams many time over hurting the people he loved. However i think the injustice that's was done to Seon Ho as a character and the jinx of Hwi as a character by the end of the show was to abide for Koreans' viewers wishes. If you watched the show in real time you would know they all were watching for JH and didn't care about anything else and started to make yo reason by calling him a victim when just killed his little brother to piss off his father so i believe the writing for last episodes was changed (Yes they filmed late after seeing viewers reactions) That's caused Hwi to be inconsistent with his actions and values by supporting BW till the last moment for no valid reason cause the viewers loved their bromance and Seon Ho meeting injustice and never get the closure he deserved by making Hwi realise why he did what he did and how much he cared about him instead of just taking him back cause felt bad for his lost soul all that cause the viewers didn't care about him and saw him as villain because that's what they wanted him to be and not because he was. WOW i wrote a paragraph that's just shows how much the injustice against Seon Ho still makes me sad as he became one of my favorite Kdrama's character sad he never get the attention he deserved i felt bad for him as if he was real.(This is also an answer for people asking why he never get justice)

The actor who played Nam Seon Ho is somehow a scene stealer, his acting is very captivating , not to mention his visuals. i inadvertently shifted my attention to him everytime he comes on. Seon ho is also a really pitiful character. He has no one by his side and he protects his friend secretly and putting on a tough front. it makes me want to root for him instead. His scenes with Seo Yeon were so heartbreaking and bitter sweet. he smiles at her but you can see from his eyes that he is in pain. Argh such emotions! Watch this drama, you won't regret i promise.

It was honestly one of the very few historical dramas that I absolutely enjoyed watching. The acting was incredible, the story/plot deserves a royal medal, the suspense kept you itching for more, the emotions were just real and believable, the set and costumes were genius, and the filming was so beautifully done. I also can't get over the humor - it was well crafted and delivered. It's only flaw is the fact that there were only 16 episodes. I could die happily watching another 10 episodes or more, that's how much I really enjoyed this drama. Usually, when I'm getting near the end of a drama, I start to fast forward through scenes because I get bored, but not this drama. There definitely couldn't have been a better cast and director for this drama. And so, before everyone starts to think I'm getting paid to say all of this, I'll wrap it up by saying - it's a must watch. You won't regret it. The agitated pimples below posting negative pus-like comments don't even deserve your attention.

SHL May 20 2020 9:04 am This drama is good. But i feel like there is so much injustice for Woo Do Hwan’s character. Seon Ho fights his battle alone - even with Hwi thinking that he’s selfish. With Hui-jae that only cares about Hwi. Even his own father. Hwi has his friends, has a good people that really surrounds him and stay by his side. But for Seon ho, the only person that stays with him is sungrok. Never in the while episode that he wins, even just once, never. But you know what? Despite of that, he’s fighting his own battle just to save Hwi and Yeon. I know Hwi also cares about him but Hwi only thinks of the revenge. When Seon Ho’s father died, that’s the only time he realized Seonho. When Seonho at the very start did everything for Hwi and Yeon. But know what? Because of that, this drama has a great foundation. And it really shows how great actor woo do hwan is. He really give justice to his character. And he made the plot of this story stronger. You can see the emotions in his eyes.

Aside from that, this movie show the real importance of friendship. That even with the differences, at the very end, you will still have each other back. Am just sad for Seon Ho that he have to carry all the burden. I remember this line in the last episode: “Looking back, I saw you and Yeon. My country.... was just one step behind me..” and then he smiles widely and purely... and i think that was the saddest part I’ve ever scene.... Seon Ho’s love for Hwi, his bestfriend is everything...

So yes!!! Watch this drama and you’ll really stan Woo Do Hwan. But still, Yang Sejong is a great actor as well!!!

But firs I have a confession that I struggle hard finishing colossal dramas even movies because I just find it hard to understand, moreover the politics... I just can't stand it because it makes me exhausted idk why but I was actually surprised that I managed to watch this drama in just 2 days.

Let's talk about Seolhyun first. People keep saying that she doesn't fit for the lead role but guess what??? Her acting was pretty good, unlike what the majority of the reviewers here wrote. I mean, I'm not saying that her acting was the best but she did a good job in this drama. I'm definitely going to be a fan of hers.

Secondly, Jang Hyuk. What a surprise! This is the first time for me to watch him in a drama (might watch Voice after this because of he did amazing, I fell in love with him and his acting by the way). His emotions, his pain, his anger, I could feel it all!!! When he screamed, I was really amazed... His acting is so beyond spectacular, can you guys tell me better words to describe his acting other than spectacular? I would like to know lol.

Next is Yang Se-jong. Tbh I watched this drama because he is going to enlist (sad) but then I was really hooked! I couldn't watch this non-stop and his acting is also really good! I cried when he cried and I could feel his emotions, there were several scenes that are heartbreaking and his acting helped making it more hurtful. When I watched his interview, he said he shot some scenes until he lost his voice, I definitely see where it was coming from because he literally gave his all in this drama. Applause!!!

For Woo Do-hwan. His visual is so damn good... Couldn't he be more handsome? Lol. He also did a great job and he expressed his emotions really well. His hatred towards Nam Jeon is really visible that you can even see it only by his glare! I also really adore his relationship with Hwi and Yeon, and not to forget with Sung-rok! I cried so hard during the last episode because it was really heartbreaking but I kinda saw it coming so... yeah. Pls, I want more dramas with him as a lead role!

The squad too, as in Hwi, Beom, Mun-bok, and Chi-do. Their bond is somewhat special and I was really worried that one of them would die!!! I swear this drama amazed me a lot because if you watch this drama, you can see that the action stunt is so coordinated and I barely see the fight seen lacked, it's perfect!

I just want to praise the whole cast and crew! They all did an amazing job and the storyline is also amazing. Idk why some people say this drama is boring??? Guys, have you watched Game of Thrones? Why do I feel like this drama has the same vibes as GOT because there are killing here and there and there are soooo much suspense in this drama especially during the fights. Also, there are more action than politics so that's why maybe I could finish this drama, I mean I'm not a heavy thinker so I don't really watch political dramas but yeah pls give this a damn shot I beg you!!! OMG I'm holding back swear words because I swear this drama is amazing :)))))))))))))))))))))

Woo do-hwan, Yang se-jong and seol hyun do their best, but I don't think Seol Hyun is good enough to be the main female lead. There's no strong chemistry between SH and YSJ, even the sister's acting (cho yi-hyun) is more confincing.

The star in this drama is none other than Jang Hyuk, no doubt about it. He's the reason i watch this drama. But yeah, My country is an average historical drama. I find Haechi is more interesting and enjoyable to watch than this drama. I struggle a lot to finish it for the sake of Lee Bang won lol.

I liked that the show revolved around a friendship between seo hwi a warrior of low class and nam seon ho whom is considered noble .A gripping tale about revenge,brotherhood ,love ,good times and bad times. The ending of the show was very sad .the only thing I did not like was the way the seolhyun acted To me it seemed as if she is very bad actress she showed no emotions her acting was all over the place they could of picked a better female actress to play the role of han hui Jae but overall quite a good show I would rate it a 8.7 out of 10 highly recommended this historical k drama

It had everything from brave fight scenes to love story, emotions, drama, upside down turns, real life principles, charismatic actors.... all the bells and whistles. Can't tell if it was Woo Do-Hwan acting or his character story however surprisingly I got hooked along the episodes with Nam Sun-Ho character rather than Seo Hwi who seemed to be at the center of the plot. Despite his character imperfections, Nam Sun-ho seemed to be more catchy and somehow more human, compare to Seo Hwi who would shine in almost any situation and display a god like portrait. Nevertheless, entire team especially the main and second line characters actors were absolutely epic. Great show and looking forward for a continuation! Congrats!

The bromance was great,the storyline heavy and sad in most parts but also beautiful. Im amazed that i didnt ship the romance as much and found the scenes of Hwi and his sister more beautiful than the romance scenes. Somehow,for some reason the female lead failed to make me love her though her acting,character and her looks were in no way terrible. Anyway,i must say everyone acted their parts well and it was a great drama.

It's like everything is combined to create this perfection : brilliant writing and directing, marvelous cast, splendid cinematography, sublime background music and songs… It is so beautiful that it would deserve a big screen release if that was possible. People who love classic Chinese and Japanese martial arts movies would love it. People who love Western fantasy and adventure movies would also be enchanted by this piece of art. As for me, I will remember this poignant tale of friendship for a very long time.

Yang Se Jong shines so brightly in My Country. His portrayal of Seo Hwi is unforgettable. His transformation throughout the drama is amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. Even just by his looks and demeanor, he makes you feel the weight of sadness and suffering that Hwi is bearing in his heart. His hoarse voice in the last episodes gave me goosebumps. It is very rare to see such maturity coming from an actor in his 20s. On top of that, he is awesome in difficult action scenes. To see that after only 3 years in the industry, he already reaches this level reinforces my feeling that he will become one of the greatest ever Korean actors.

Seolhyun's acting was okay, she still needs improvement but it wasn't bad. The plot itself had its flaws. Like what happened to the poison within Hwi's body?

I found myself shipping hwi and seonho more than hwi and huijae :D. Not to hate on her character but she barely played a role in the drama other than Hwi's love interest. Her character was strong a first and she had a purpose but it kind of died down towards the end of the drama.

Overall, I'll give it a 7.8/10. The ending was a bit anticlimactic.

And The most misunderstood and loneliest character i have ever seen. I loved his noble goal and how he never let his father toxic rising affects him. He was good and stayed good to the last moment. The way he loved and gave his loved ones everything he had including his own life without asking for anything in return was admirable. No one knew his struggles or his reasons till the end. It was enough for him to be able to love them. My love for him can't be described by words. So sad there isn't more episodes for me to see him even though he would probably suffers. I will miss him forever. And Dohwan's acting was top notch made me sympathize more with the character.

It’s like when Seo Hwi gets older, he will be a bodyguard of Lee Bang Won when Bang Won was made as a king of Joseon. It tells a wonderful story, blending friendships, love, affection , while having you chase a mystery for its outcome. It is addictive to watch because you find yourself watching not one but two or three parts in a row because you have got to know what is happening next. Cast in a mideval society of chivalry, political intregue , tragedy, loyalty and friendships. The archery is thrilling and the sword fighting rambunctious swash buckling at its best. Character development is excellent all the way through. The music is awesome, where some scenes creshendo with ominous background as danger rises while employing music like the Last Ship when ominous danger arises. The camera work and music is exquisite capturing tender love scenes cast in the beauty of nature making the movie a true art form as good as it gets. Love the heros. I think the Korean people are fantastic. This productions stands right along side War Of The Arrows and Red Cliff Two other powerful movies.

Love this production . I give it 10 kernals of popcorn. Outstanding production!!!

However, I did see somewhat of a resemblance between Seo Wi and Hui Jae in "My Country," and Ddang Sae and Yeon Hee in "Six Flying Dragons." I couldn't believe all the blood splatters on everyone's faces, and all the scars on their bodies. I did like all the actors, and think they did a marvelous job playing their characters.

I first saw Yang Se-Jong in Romantic Doctor. Since then I’d been following his drama. Thumps up to the writer. He incorporated about the loyalty, sincerely and caring friendship of the 2 leads that made the drama more interesting . The ending was un- expected. It was sad, however it would be unrealistic if they survived the sword and arrows that smashed their bodies. Great job to the maker of this historical drama.

watcher Nov 29 2019 10:14 am it was so good in the beginning but became so boring later. it lost logic every time some one got stabbed by a sword then acting like it was just a scratch to start fighting again eating and drinking like wth. the acting was great no doubt but the plot was so frustrating. Seol Hyun's acting was ok but her voice was too soft to fit historical drama. I don't know if it was to look elegant but she kept talking in the same tone in every scene somehow I didn't feel her emotions

I just loved the chemistry between the actors even the ones who were ennemies but it didn't mean that I didn't cried all my tears out. If you know your korean history you may know how it ends and then the way they tell story is really important. My country staff and actors did exactly that they told a story. An amazing story. I hope they'll meet again in other works. If you didn't started this drama yet you should. And Jang Hyuk one of my favourite korean actors he was absolutely mind blowing. The way he delivers all this emotions at once is just incredible. He was one of the best characters in this. Go watch it :)

Being stuck in friendship with seon ho's whose father is the one make hwi's life destroyed. I dont think what seon ho's did is right. The acts of Nam Seon-Ho started to be an internal conflict between guilt, ambition, envy, insecurities, anger, love and loneliness. Another thing is Seol Hyun, playing the role of Han Hui-Jae, indeed this lady has grown and improved a lot. She has come out from her teeny bopper role and image and took a serious matured role. And of course my super idol Jang Hyuk, such a great veteran and established Korean box office actor who accepted the role of Yi Bang-Won; him playing supporting role to his juniors Yang Se-Jong and Woo Do-Hwan is indeed a show of maturity, generosity, humility, confidence and professionalism in character and profession!

kwan Nov 06 2019 1:09 pm I love Korean historical dramas. I've watched their history through dramas from 37 BC through 1834. This is my second taste of Yi Bang-won. I watched Six Flying Dragons, where Bang-won started out as a good guy that turned bad in the end. Here he's bad from the start. At times it's hard to following the gist of this story, but I'll keep trying. The scenes prove how terrible war is and that only the poor suffer the most. I think if Seon-ho was a true friend he would have gone to the battlefield with Hwi--but then I can't see any reason to fork over a true friend for your own selfish ends.

Unlike a lots of people i see that's Seon Ho had no other choice but to send Hwi to the army he had better chance to survive there than letting him killed by his father even after all this years. Where they became stronger they couldn't stop his father from doing what he wanted to do so Hwi had no chance against him back then. Seon Ho was helpless and was ready to give up his life by exposing the bribery to save Yeon when he knew his father can't reach Hwi anymore. So he didn't have anything to lose except himself and Yeon. I really don't see how he could've done better in his weak state back then when he's this helpless now and unable to stop his father from harming his loved ones. Maybe people can't buy the weak writing but that's what every other scenes after ep 4 proved it happened. Seon Ho would give up his life for the two all the time they're his priority and a lots of scenes where Nam Jeon straight up threatens him with them. I disliked Seon Ho in the second episode too cause it wasn't clear how his relationship with his father was like or how powerful he was but maybe most of people can't change their first impression of him.

So far a lots of scenes and events happened are supporting this fact. He's set up to be misunderstood by the writer with his vogue motives but all what was reveled till now and how he would sacrifice his life for them several times proves they're above his other goals and ambitions. There's no way he could be ever happy but i still hope for him to make it out this chaos alive and make up with Hwi.

She's not even a princess and her role was like a damsel in distress princess, darn, even a princess doesn't need that much saving. She needs a looooooooot of saving. The world shouldn't revolve around Seo Hwi saving his sister cause it makes the plot cheap, tiring, boring and pointless. Almost half of the plot has revolved around Seo Hwi needed to save his sister's arse and it revolved around her sickness, from having epilepsy to losing her memories WTF. She's a cheap damsel in distress who needs to be saved for like 26652763 times. They should have just locked her somewhere or bury her somewhere to stop being a damsel in distress. She's a nuisance from the beginning to the end. I'm glad she died. I can't imagine if she stayed alive until the last episode then it means she'll stay a damsel in distress until episode 16, Jesus Christ, that would be awful. Seo Hwi's role or the male lead's role shouldn't revolve around his sister for goodness sake. The title of this is My Country not My Sister. It's not cool that Seo Hwi's character just revolved around his sister, everything he does was just because of his sister and his sister and his sister over and over again, even Hui-Jae has to sacrifice just for his sister, the male lead's purpose was not even about My Country thingy, it's really just more about My Sister. Lmfao The sister drama of Seo Hwi made his story and character look so shallow and cheap cause it got stuck in that same boring drama like stagnant water and if she didn't die it will just continue to be like that and that's not even cool. I just skipped his drama about his sister cause I didn't sign up for that. It seriously made me feel sleepy.

The drama is filled with action scene esp the one-take action scene from eps 3 was really cool and i keep on repeating the scene. I never watched kdramas put that lot of effort for an action scene. The director and filmography are tight and costumes sets are opulent. There are, of course, a lot of fights and a lot of blood, but what would be a historical Korean drama without slashing, singing steel and blood spurting? Those were violent times. There are some epic battle scenes, but also a touching love story and a strong love/hate relationship between the 2 leads. If you don’t finish watching it - you’re gonna miss something great.

Maybe just me, but the casting for the female lead is a pretty off. Seolhyun did her best, I'd give her that. With her position as some kind of leader and her actions in general, I know for sure that her character calls for someone with great charisma and great leadership, you know something like that, I would also argue that her character supposed to be pretty similar with the female lead from The Great Queen of Seondok. I don't see it in Seolhyun. The way she carries herself sometimes could be pretty cold, but there's still some weak and frail vibe I got from her. Especially accompanied by her small and feminine voice. Her pronunciation also pretty bad imho. There are some dialogue where she was talking about some wise saying, but her intonation were super off, like she's reading off script. Which for me, killing the flow. Some plus points maybe are just for how beautiful she looks in this drama. Honestly, I'm in doubt to watch the next episodes now.

But something felt missing, but I continued until the female lead appeared. I am not hating the actress, but the character itself was unlikable. She's a typical person I wouldn't like in real life. Her self entitlement was off the cart. She got no problem involving two unwitting people and possibly got them killed for her self interest. And her attitude annoyed the hell out of me. Ok, if she didn't want to confront the social norms that's fine, but giving people lectures out of the bat, it's just pompous. Her self righteousness was sickening. And from there, I had to turn off my Netflix. I just can't continue.

There's gonna be lots of blood shed lots of drama lots of battle, even when yi seonggye win and take the throne there will still be the strife of princes (two of them actually). Daddy would have bribed that official to destroy Hwi, in reality (as well as for insurance for his son to be first). Hwi was second even if he lost that final duel. He got kicked out because he lost his temper and attacked that official! The whole idea of 'only 1, or 2, or 5' know about the bribery is an insult to the intelligence considering Hwi yelled it out in front of everyone at the military testing site. Okay? Horribly inconsistent, lackadaisical writing. I truly hope this doesn't keep happening. Plus that father is behaving beyond stupidly. He should have befriended those kids if he was the one to betray their father. That's the smart way to hide things, you know.

If an actor can make me cry and or make me emotional in any kind of emotion - saddness, anger, joy - then that is a good actor because he takes me on the journey with him. If you go back a re-watch all their scenes together so far, she shows an interest in him and not Seon Ho right out of the gate. I hope she stays with Hwi through out the drama. Although Seon Ho father can force her into marrying Seon Ho which I dread, especially if she thinks Hwi died at war. Besides I hate Seon Ho right now for his back stabbing ways to who is supposed to be a dear friend. So much for bromance.

Baladeva Oct 06 2019 10:06 am first scene is near end battle, and small cast mean less murder scene. this is will be full action drama. by the look at both encounter in battle, they have strong emotion. multiple branch storyline instead dull revenge plot because both have their own story. change friendship into enemy just in 2 episode, the character develop overtime, so far nothing bad, YSJ with bow, WDH swordplay, i wish Seol Hyun can do more action with Crossbow like she did at The Great Battle now she like well educated woman at that time with personal goals, and Jang Hyuk as royal family members with cunning strategy, plotting, just like he did at shine or go crazy a history drama. downside for my country is no multiple romance story due lack of actress and drama already finish, so no additional cast, prepare to watch an exhausting drama. bc there is a lot of antagonist cast that will make everything worse.

I did not read the synopsis until after watching ep.1 and could tell that Sun Ho was going to be the 2nd lead. 2nd in everything: sword, arrow, passing the exam, getting the girl (writers cannot have two girls, just cannot -SMH). He will become jealous of his friend and as we already know they will be fighting on opposite sides. Since he is 2nd lead he will lose. Forgone conclusion. I have to decide whether or not I want to continue watching.

@ManinderKaur I don't really watch a lot of korean drama anymore (just the one that has my favorite actors in it ?). Thank you for the recommendation ☺ and I think a lot of single girls see him as a husband materi he's a handsome man but I like actors that are having 35-50 years old ? I have a thing about them i think they are more manly and handsome than the younger actors who (some of them ) are cute and adorable.

weee Sep 05 2019 7:04 pm The first time i saw WDH was in Save Me and i definitely loved how he had portrayed the character. He was amazing and the story was also amazing. I also watched him at Mad Dog which was a very under rated but was really compelling. It was a battle of wits and WDH did great on it. I recommend it. I also watched him in the great seducer..they were amazing actors, but the story wasn't really there for me or maybe it was the chemistry and characterization that didn't work well. It was just all over the place. Nevertheless, i still loved him

YSJ is also one great actor. I watched him at Stil 17/30 but 17 and in Duel. Each character on either drama was different since one was a romcom and the other was a thriller but he pulled both off.

I am so excited for this drama since both of them are in it. If you guys want to know them more, try to watch these dramas. i definitely recommend.

mmmm Sep 05 2019 5:04 pm @Parkminri Jang Hyuk is certainly not a supporting character he's main character as for YSJ and WDH both are kind of new actors and only have 3 dramas as main character so i don't think they showed all what they got yet. I have only seen YSJ's dramas as a lead but i don't quiet remember any serious action scenes in it however i believe that he's very capable of doing it as he's a hard worker and really immerse and prepares for his roles. While WDH has two movies with some serious fighting scenes one came out already but the other is coming this December which is an action packed movie. I think both can do action scenes as they're still young and fit but surely not in Jang Hyuk's level. He's a real martial artist. Note: The Great Seducer is highly unrecommended lol. If you'r interested on seeing them in anything Duel and Save me is their best work imo.

He works finely and the he builts the character. I watched his works thricely and i still re-watch his 3 fabulous dramas. Duel, Temperature of Love and 30 but 17. I fall in love with him since Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, and i was so much thrilled to see him most Magnificent role in DUEL, He is dream man/husband for single girls ❤❤❤ He chooses his work very distinctively. Get ready to see another masterpiece from him.

Woo Do hwan is incredibly talented as well. Watch him in The Great Seducer (he will make you fall in love with him)

Sooyi Aug 23 2019 2:32 am Jang Hyuk is not part of the "main three", but I think he is playing a lead role similar to that of Kim Myung-min in "Six Flying Dragons" wherein the latter acted as a leader and mentor to some of the young main characters, or the instigator who turns their lives upside down. @WDH's fan Yes, playing the second lead who becomes vengeful doesn't get you brownie points with the audience, but there are times when the audience sympathsize with him because they understand he had no other way as his life just got harder and harder, or he was faced with a big dilemma.

WDH's fan Jun 20 2019 1:39 am Wdh's character sounds like those petty second leads in love triangle dramas. Those type of characters brings nothing but hate for the actors. I wonder if he took this part cause he knew Janghyuk going to be in it. He's a huge fan of JH and talked about how he inspired him to be an actor in slave hunter which was his favorite drama. JH is one of my first kdrama's love along with LJG I really admire YSJ as well. He was awesome in duel but i doubt i could keep watching the drama if my fav's character is horrible.I greatly hope my kdrama instincts is wrong though.

I have to appear in various genres so that I can relax in my late 40s" he doesn't care if his the main lead or not.I think this drama will have a great success even with younger actors in lead role.So fighting to all the actors!!!

The young protagonists are the main subject of My Country, not the older ones. If Jang Hyuk accepted this role, no doubt he knew about its main theme. It will be very interesting to see him play a key role in this ambitious JTBC sageuk. Yang Sejong is a gorgeous talent, he's absolutely exceptional as an actor. Watch Duel if you don't know him. I can't wait to see him act along with Woo Do Hwan, another revelation who catched everybody's eyes in 2017.

Niki Apr 07 2019 1:07 pm Everyone’s talking how terrible seolhyun’s acting was in Orange Marmalade, forgetting the fact that Orange Marmalade came out in 2015, a person can improve. I really doubt the director of this drama would cast a person that cannot act when the budget for this movie is HUGE. (2.5 Billion won). They wouldn’t risk it. Also her recent movies have been really good and successful!

sera Mar 18 2019 9:47 pm First off, I really like the director past works. He could make melodrama into something contemporary and refreshing. It's the drama writer I'm kind of put off by. I watched a bit of Inspiring Generation, but never finished it. It was forgettable. I also watched Master of Revenge. That drama was a waste of time. There were forced plots, no direction in story, and poor characterization. But I hope that the writer will make this his breakout drama.

I see that they put some thought into the casting. That makes two positive.

They are the two rising, rather recently risen, male actors I find my eyes dripping a flavor of honey you might call unadulterated admiration... They are just so freaking excellent at their craft I have to watch every minute of their dramas! Just before the Joseon era into the Joseon period will make this even more interesting since as military stories go older shows are just more interesting than current era ones that feel too raw/hit nerves still severed by real life happenings.
