Bong Sang-Pil works as an attorney and has one of the highest win rates in the country. Bong Sang-Pil will take advantage of any loopholes in the law. He stands before the court for his mother’s revenge, opposing absolute power.

When Bong Sang-Pil (Lee Joon-Gi) was little, he lived with his mother in Gisung. His mother worked as a lawyer and she took on a case that Judge Cha Moon-Sook (Lee Hye-Young) got involved with. Judge Cha Moon-Sook was the most respected person in the city. One night, Bong Sang-Pil witnessed his mother get killed by Judge Cha Moon-Sook's subordinate (Choi Min-Soo). Bong Sang-Pil got out of Gisung and went to live with his gang boss uncle Choi Dae-Woong (Ahn Nae-Sang). Bong Sang-Pl decided to become a lawyer to take revenge on those responsible for his mother's death.

18 years later, Bong Sang-Pil works as a lawyer. He sees news on the TV that a detective was arrested for killing the mayor of Gisung. The detective holds a key to the murder of Bong Sang-Pil's mother. Bong Sang-Pil returns to Gisung for the first time in 18 years. He opens up a law office there.

Meanwhile, Ha Jae-Yi (Seo Yea-Ji) is a lawyer with integrity. She beats up a judge in court and gets her law license suspended. Ha Jae-Yi returns to her hometown of Gisung. There, Bong Sang-Pil approaches Ha Jae-Yi and gets her to work at his law office. Bong Sang-Pil holds a secret related to the death of Ha Jae-Yi’s mother.

The villains acted very well especially the Chairman An....we also usually seldom get a main female villain too. Nice plot with good acting skills here....but the romance seems a bit too fast, at first the FL dislike ML so much, but after he told her the truth and the connection between them she immediately falls in love with him, kiss him and they went to bed tgt so soon?? They should have make it slowly built up and make it happen in like two more epi later. I guess they didn't have time to make it slower built up between the two because there is so much plot development on how to take down the villains in the latter episodes....LOL

But the first kiss scene seems forceful, there’s literally no loveline and suddenly the kiss happened and it does not end there somemore hahaha i found it really off. But other than that, I Love This Series. Lee joon gi and seo yeji visuals are on another level. Falls for yeji smiles every single time.

The storyline and plot are excellent, cleverly written and very well executed by all the actors. Great acting by the male and female leads. Well done to everyone in this show especially the writer. Did anyone notice that there are many similarities between this show and Vincenzo? Is it a "coincidence"? Note that Lawless Lawyer was made a few years earlier than Vincenzo. The storyline and plot in Lawless Lawyer and acting by all the actors are much much better in Lawless Lawyer.

I don't like dramas with too many dull and time-prolonging moments but with this, the action gets going that it would drag down to the end. Personalities were strong which I like the most when it comes to characters. I don't really like those dramas with too many crying-over-nothing characters.

His personality is so strong that he ate the leading actress up and owns the picture. Directors should find a woman with a strong personality as he, is to control every scene. I'll be eaiting for that love action drama in the future. anyway, haven't seen this drama yet. But I will definitely watch this beacuse of LJG.

I love LJG, I've never found any actress that were his match or have great chemistry with him (It's just my opinion) But with SYj, gosh they look so good together, take about beautiful couple... I digress, the drama is simple and believable. Great acting from the main leads. The love story between them were refreshing, I say that because it's believable. The ending seem to setup for season 2, I hope so!

All I gotta say is that this Korean drama is on its on transcended level. Everything is great about this Korean drama, really highly recommend. Rating:9.5/10

From Lee Hye-Young to Choi Min Soo as the second leads in the show, to the other supporting cast members - every part was well rounded.

Lee Hye-Young has become the "Woman You Love To Hate" and this show is no exception.

I wasn't keen on Seo Ye Ji after watching Hwarang, I felt she was too wooden (but on reflection it was the character, not the actress), but this show - brilliant! Just brilliant! She showed a range of emotion and really rounded her character well.

What can I say about Lee Joon Gi that hasn't already been said a thousand times?

Only that the fight scenes in this show are what I live for. I know they are rehearsed multiple times, but that is for the actors' safety - their actions are still real and it shows.

I'm just not sure which I prefer more - LJG fighting in modern times or in historical shows where his hanbok flares out each time he kicks or spins?

That's something to ponder further ... LOL

Aaaaaah! I didn't expect Bong Sang Pil's uncle to die.. I really cried my heart out even though he has less scenes with him. Also, I like Tae Kwang Soo's character. A loyal friend, a great follower. And Aaahhhh! Lee Joon Gi's jawline the entire time?! I'm living for it. Love Bong Sang Pil and Ha Jae Yi's chemistry. I find their love a bit fast but yeah it's fine. An O-Jo is a monster! So as Judge Cha.

dramalover Jun 26 2019 4:36 pm Fantastic drama! I have to say, this was the first time where I didn't unilaterally hate the antagonists. They were truly multi-dimensional and refreshing. There were many points of comic relief that I thoroughly enjoyed. I found it a bit dull at first, but the plot really progresses after episode 10. It'll keep you at the edge of you seat. To those watching, I recommend you stick around until the end, it's worth it!

But I can't deny the fact that she's a really good actress.... I did not like seo ye ji much in hwarang but her true potential could definitely be seen here...

I get bored with most of them easily, so i dropped in the beginning, the story, relationship development and conflict are pretty much the same, but i found this one is different. There are a lot of things that entertain me in any aspects of this drama. All in one package. Very entertaining.

Rendiishere Oct 28 2018 12:16 pm I started to watch this one when it's air solely bcs of choi min sik and the genre, synopsis looks promising too. But oh man, it's so dragging and it feels like this story is from a movie script but later rewrited as drama with 16 eps in which 1 hour each, so it resulted in so many filler, pointless, useless things that just slow, repetitive, and boring. So, i stopped watching it up to ep 3 bcs honestly it's lame. I continued recently after the main guy bong sam pil appear in variety show with iu and there's no dramas i watch currently. Things gets better after ep 6 of course with the same "running in circle" wasted time but the casts other than the great choi min sik performed well, especially the lady judge lee hye young as choo moon sook, she has that scary aura but composed and tough even up till the end. The trials are so-so, predictable, conveniently filled with deux ex machina.. Don't expect too much if you decide to see this one, it's passable, with decent (but very little) action scenes..

It is plagued with so many pacing issues, plot holes, inconsistent story timeline, too much events that always end up favoring up the protagonists (too convenient for them to be realistic) etc. It even got the technological timeline messed up, microSD didn't even exist until in 2006 and yet it is being used in 2000 in this drama. The writers need to do their homework more. I have watched so many Korean dramas that have given attention to the very small details and this one right here is not one of them, not even close. Thumbs down from me.

How did me he make those characters looking unique from one another? Each character seems so real.Hr is such a brilliant actor and definitely Lee Joon Gi is one of the very few great actors in Korean. I am so looking for his next project & excited to catch up his other projects that I’ve not watched yet.

Sunday Jul 12 2018 2:06 pm LJG is always amazing playing any roles he gets, so he did a fantastic job. However, I'm not a huge fan of the drama itself. It was a bit thrilling at the beginning, but I think it began to drag a little. Maybe it's only because I found it predictable. It's not a bad drama, but it doesn't have a new storyline either. It's one of those typical dramas about taking down corrupt leaders and getting revenge.

Basically it is based on true story, but the writer adapted it into satire and created characters who have job related to law. I think what a satire drama trying to do most is not to make the viewer feel thrilling (as you and some people expected here) but to critize something. If the writer decided to write it exactly looked like the reality then it became a biographical drama.

Btw, is it true those who keep saying it's boring, not thrilling, too predictable, and not recommend others to watch this drama, are seo ye ji fans? So sad to hear that, they didn't know what type of drama she's involved in, instead keep saying the same thing.

It depicts the political situation in Korea last year. So, expect no "the best kdrama shocking big plot / twist of the century". The ending for main villain and her accomplices has been written in all korean headline news last year LOL.

I just like how the writer adapted it, and how the director presented it. Not to forget how amazing the actors are, either in action or acting. The chemistry among all of them is so good to watch, from lead actors to supporting actors, all are doing great. I have so much fun watching it for the last 2 months.

Whether it is predictable or not predictable plot, it is also a biased point of view.

Just wonder if unbias opinion about definition of boring drama is related to prediction of plot, then if a viewer can predict the plot twist in a drama/movie thus called it a boring drama/movie, I assume all drama based on novel / Web / other writing that a viewer already read all are boring, and not recommend others to watch it?

In the other hand, do others needs a shocking plot twist that never happened in any drama watched by a viewer (not others) before thus call it not a boring One?

However this the fact. This drama aired on cable TV, 2 episode a week, and each episode aired 4 times. The first aired of first episode gained average rating 5% and the first aired of the final episode peaked at 10%, means audiences were double than the first one, means more people watching this drama.

Numbers said it all. They won't lie. That's the fact, not opinion.

Though it's look like the writer run out of ideas. This drama is just boring(we always saw this) drama with different body kit. I'm disappointed. Unbiased opinion.

KB Jun 28 2018 12:50 pm Yeon-Hee shows fake emotions towards her mother. I expected her to fight more and protect her. Boy she acts like there is no connection between them. Throughout the drama I thought maybe she will show when her mum gets hurt, but she shows forced emotions. Is it that she has a hard time showing emotions or there is no connection with the person who plays her mother?

The writers of this show are the same who wrote “ Time between dog and wolf” and at the end of that show we found out that his Black agent father was best friend with the triad boss. That was a great twist. So I expect a great twist as well on this show. Once again, great writing and production.

Pat Jun 12 2018 7:37 am This drama is amazing. It keeps you on the edge and it’s thrilling every episode. Lee Joon Gi always exceeds expectation. He always performs better everytime as an actor and martial artist.

And about the weight. Extra flabs definitely not healthy and in Korea being thin is what’s normal and Lee Joon is normally. Sad but true that if one is chubby in Korea, they think that person has some kind of mental illness. He is toned and that what matters which means he keep the weight through good health diet which mean very less carbo and he exercise a lot.

I think he looks really attractive, but I don’t think he needs to be this weight for every role both because it’s possibly unhealthy and clearly it’s disturbing for some viewers.

I noticed it first in Scarlet Heart then he has gotten worst with each drama after that. I hope he gets healthier so much weight lost makes him look sick.

The title says it all, they fight law by breaking the law, and also more like "Flawless Lawyer", Bong Sang Pil always have strategies ahead the enemies.

Essentially it is at the right place maybe even too quickly but within 8 episodes you get more progress than dramas have achieved within 16 episodes. All the elements that make a great drama are here. This latest episode you witness how great of an actor Lee Joon Ki is. We are dealing with a city so corrupt that even the law can be swayed. I urge viewers to really look symbolically at this movie because it is a microcosm of reality if you think about it. Please watch this drama and form your own judgement. Totally rooting for it's success :)

Those who's attracted to him positively, praise him, hoping others recognise it, and those who's attracted to him negatively, believe he didn't deserve all of this praises because he lacks of thing they believe is the most important thing in a drama.

For those who are not allergic to him, it's not a bad one, it's a legal theme drama which action, romance and comedy all in one solid entertaining package.

Evelyn Coleman Jun 03 2018 11:24 am This is among my top 5 all time favorite dramas unless it goes the way of Golden Cross. I am a fan of Lee Joon Gi and he does not disappoint in this drama. I loved him in everything (his acting not the writing in that Gunman drama and could barely stomach the lead in the Vampirish one) Overall he is excellent as an actor and interpreter of character. This show also has excellent female lead, great supporting actors, good writing and pacing, excellent plot structure so far and incredible fighting scenes. (No one does it better than The Man from Nowhere's fight scene though but that's a movie) This is my #1 drama for the year so far. I prefer action, fast romance and revenge plots that allows the heroes to win. I loved this as much as I loved Whisper for the winning! In the end, I want the bad people to be punished and the good people to be cheered.

I have read an interesting interview of one stage director. He was asked how does he differentiate good acting from bad acting. I like his answer, he gave his definition of good acting but stressed that there are no objective standards, this is a matter of personal taste. He told that people’s reactions to the movies and the actors are often not 100% influenced by their performances. People that aren’t themselves actors, directors etc. aren’t really clear on what an actor contributes to a film. Some people think an actor/actress is great if they like his/ her character, but that’s often a function of good writing. Some people say acting is good because of the good looks or because of the impressive effect, e.g. they sacrificed for the role because of gaining or losing of weight, or wearing uncomfortable stuff, or pretending to be handicapped, or doing impressive stunts. This is indeed very impressive, but this is not the core of what actors do. Some people think acting is good if they like the plot. Many people also confuse an actor’s life with his work. If people find an actor unsavory as a person, they dislike his acting as well. I am not a fan of LJG as majority of the commenters here, but I find he is believable, just he is not very interesting to me. There are guys who didn’t like twists in the plot or find acting not good enough, and if you disagree, it doesn’t make those guys right or wrong. It just means we all have different tastes. For those, who didn’t decide yet to watch LL or not, don’t rely much on the comments. Just watch at least 1 episode and decide to continue or not.

It has always been about an ex-gangster who becomes a lawyer to get revenge on the people responsible for the death of his mother. Never did they say it would be a procedural where he tackles different cases. He has always been on a mission. As for the romance it was kind of fast but I always felt Bong Sang Pil liked Jae Yi from the start so I don't mind. Now we have to watch how they will weather the forthcoming threats together.

There are many "law theme" tv series other than this one, which is currently airing and tell story about solving problem from one case to another case. In the contrary, this series is about how to punish people one by one using law. Lawless Lawyer is a series about a fictional character of gangster lawyer, who avenge for his mother's death that happend in fictional city called Giseong, which is controlled by a group of people such as judge (she is the leader of the group), prosecutor, lawyer, businessman, banker, media owner etc (whom citizen perceive as noble people but turn out to be corrupt ones). He will bring this people to the trial one by one and punish them using law. The first 6 episodes is a solid fast paced story, telling how he came back to Giseong, recruited his gang, got full trust from a woman who has daughter-and-mother-look-alike relationship with the judge, and revealed himself his true identity and his motivation to bring this group down. I always enjoy every episode. It is a good drama that allows me to experience different kind of feeling, happy, sad, pity, amusing, wow, jaw drop, shocked, ghost bump, etc. Just can't wait to watch the next episode, I believe the writer has many more to offer.

I didnt even know that they liked each other that they kissed and went to bed just after she found out her mother was dead, literally from 0 to 100 in like two seconds. The baddies don't have character and theyre only there to be bad for the story and why are they lawyers i mean everithing revolve around the revenge it doesnt make sense that they talk like people that help the oppressed when they didnt even take 1 case for other people who isnt themselfes. I thought lawless lawyer was about this ex gangster who helped people with different metods than just law but this is totally unexpected...in a bad way

Wow he is running, sweating, punching and kicking someone's ass while wearing very expensive Italian suit hahaha and still looks gorgeous! I love the way he interprets the character. Very impressive. Never failled to make me emotionally attached with his character. It will be long embedded in my heart just like the previous competitors Gong Gil, Kay, Yong i, Eun Oh, Tae San, Hanjo, Sung Yeol, Wang So, Hyun Jun, all of them are different, unique, and special. There is no trace of Lee Joon Gi himself when it comes to creating a new character... and this new one is included. I love Bong Sang Pil very much as much as I love this drama. Good acting from all actors, good directing, good writing, good job from all the production people. What a good start, please keep all the hardwork to make this great until the end.

Imo, everyone (including me lol) has ability to act. Ask them to pretend to be happy, sad, angry, cunning, and any other emotion until director say CUT (means: director believe that person can talk, smile, laugh, cry). Then ask them to try all the costumes available for beggar, king, student, president, military officer, criminal, doctor, professional etc. Can they act? Of course they can. Will audience remember all of their act? Of course not all of them. Some keep doing the same act no matter what costume they're wearing. A few will remain in audience heart. Some won't dare to wear other costume they're not comfortable with, a few have guts pushing themselves to try them all. That define what a good actor is, not just a matter of over act or less act, imo

But I do like the overall chemistry. And as someone else has said, I am liking the tropes quite a bit.

However, special mention to the actress portraying Cha Moon Sook! She is as elegant as a flawless diamond while poisonous as a viper. Gives me chills just by watching her switch from a loving "oemma" to a ruthless villain.

This drama just earned itself a follower, watched 4 episodes and I'm totally hooked.

However,am liking the switch on traditional tropes-villian is a woman regarded as a community leader.Takes guts to show roles like this and am glad the actress is performing well.

Another interesting twist is that there is no secrecy surrounding the hero's motives for long.Its 4 eps and all the villains understand that they are being targetted

High hopes for this show to remain good..

His casting offers are usually announced by the production team then his agency only confirm that he receive the offer and considering the offer positively. And I also notice this scenario is always a done. So I am thinking he is preparing for the drama right now.
