Plot

After his mother is brutally murdered by the Triad in Thailand, Soo-hyun (Lee Joon-Gi]) is adopted by NIS agent Kang Joong-ho, and he grows up with Min-ki (Jung Kyoung-Ho) like brothers. Min-ki and Soo-hyun both become NIS agents later on. One fateful day, Soo-hyun meets Ji-woo (Nam Sang-Mi) after last seeing her in Thailand when he was a child. They start dating. One day, Soo-hyun ruins a mission when the suppressed memories of the day his mother died surfaces in his mind. NIS Director Jung gives Soo-hyun an undercover assignment to infiltrate the Triad and Soo-hyun takes the job. Soo-hyun fakes his death and assumes a new identity to become a member of the Triad. With his fake identity and new name, he prowls the back alleys of Bangkok...

SHEILA THOMAS Nov 15 2022 9:26 am Love this drama. Am watching it for the first time. Both Lee Joon-gi and Jung Kyung-ho have full faces and are very handsome but in resent dramas are so very thin especially Kyung-ho. Are they runners, work out? Hoping they are both well?

mary_sure Oct 28 2021 9:35 pm I haven't watch that many gangster or NIS kdrama. But this drama build it very well which make me want to search on this genre after this. This is LJG favourite drama and make him remove his flower boy title completely.

Story flow is the best which give us so much intense moment without we notice. Especially when soo hyun suddenly make his move to kill Mao in his duty. I dont expect this will happen. The termination of Soo hyun from NIS also unexpected scene because usually main character will hold all the good thing in him.

Mao vs Chief Jung give another value to learn. Even Mao is consider as bad becaese he is gangster, but his belief & loyal to his people really hold till the end. Even we expect he will doubt Kay in the middle, but he just realise on last episod. Compare to Chief Jung who only use his man for this mission without concern about their safety.

All the cast really did their best on potraying their character. Mao, Kay, Ari, Mingi, and so many character to be mention. Even AhHwa also play big role in making this story a bit loose. My favourite character of course Kay & Mao. on how the bring the gangster style in naturalway.

Lourdes delarea Apr 30 2021 8:52 am We would like to suggest that this drama, Time between dog and wolf , first starring lead role for Lee Joon Gi in drama, must have a sequel for Lee Soo Hyun and his mother who was still grieving because of the death of her son and she kept cleaning her son's room because she missed him a lot. It would have been time for his mother to know the truth to make her happy. More undercover activities as NIS black operative...More action scenes and high tech gadgets..... We have been watching this drama several times since last year, 2020. I first watched Lawless Lawyer and got fascinated with the sterling performance of the actor , Lee Joon Gi. So we decided to watch his other dramas and films. He is magnificent.

HV Jun 19 2018 7:24 pm Before there were “IRIS 1 and 2, My girlfriend is an agent, SPY and all of the more current ones” there was “Time Between Dog and Wolf.” This is by far the best spy show outhere. Do not get fool by the year it was produced (2007). Everything in that show and literally means EVERYTHING is a masterpiece. Apart from the bad hair styles (Lol), you would think that it was recently produced. The writing, the production and the acting just leave you speechless!!!! Second to “Time Between Dog and Wolf” is “3 Days” after these two, the rest are barely mimicking.

tncdel May 24 2017 4:57 am This drama needs a sequel, because it ended non-conclusively. Leaving it uncertain as to whether or not the hero actually died. The sequel could explain how he had a near-death experience, but somehow managed to survive, even though badly wounded, after he dove into the water to escape.

They should also do a sequel for Il-Jimae, since it was similarly inconclusive.

umunie Feb 16 2017 2:03 am When i noticed Lee Joongi in Scarlet Heart-Ryeo, i started to marathon his old dramas except My girl and this. I thought they are old dramas and i may not like them but the result was the opposite.. In the first place,I like spy stories but did not expect that this drama was very good in all aspects, the acting of most actors, the directing and the well executed action scenes.. Lee Joongi was only in his twenties when he did this but still there was so much depth in his acting and he showed wide range of emotions.. One of his best dramas ever. and one of the PD Kim Min Ji's best work as well.

It's an old drama, but the plot is great. I understand the plot better than cruel city. Truthfully I think this is the best drama about police and spy. This is a masterpiece. The acting is flawless, as usual delivered by Lee Joon GI and Jung Kyung-Ho. All of actors who act in this are amazing and really believable, i am not someone who rate everything high and perfect, but this show really can make me feel everything..

The twist is also good but it's not messy. It's logical and rational too, i haven't watched all lee joon gi's drama and movies but i guess, this is his best drama so far that i have watched. He is also very handsome in this drama, he was still young :D the action is good, i mean all the fighting moves from him are real and natural.

I need to mention the acting again, it's so god damn good!!!! I hope more kdramas like this, really follow logical plot like this, it's well written. I cannot hate the villain in this drama coz it's only the matter of perspective. I hope for soo hyun's happiness...

Music is quite old since it's an old show anyway..

The ending is also good and satisfying for me

Overall, i marathon this for 1 day since today is holiday for me.. Definitely a must watch!

simmi Oct 03 2016 1:51 pm well love makes u do crazy things!!...and i m doing that by writing about this old drama of my love joon gi sshi!!.....i recently discovered this amazing actor by chance and ever since then i m totally his fan....i wish no.1....again joon gi who is becoming to be legend in the costume drama genre gave me the reason to explore him more,so i m here....in this almost ten year old drama i get to see him in lil contemporary avatar which was very refreshing for me,yes i m so happy to his boyish charms,his smile and lot of action,emotions.Drama on the hand was also came out be a very good one time watch as its story is simple yet intriguing!!...yeah some ppl/fanz might find the ending lil unjustified but guys 'suhyun'..joon gi's character did not get shot in the end as min gi saved him...or don't apply too much brain....hehehe...its just a drama.....but for me what was equally interesting thing is the character of jeewoo the leading lady of the drama!...her simplicity and yet firm determination is so refreshing for me for a character who on numerous occassion protected suhyun's life.....some of romance scenes are really heart warming....so go explore for yourselves or if u really love joon gi like me...:)

The acting was great throughout and the cast really portrayed their characters well but the ending was so flawed that it ruined the drama for me

I swear Kay got shot at least 5 times to the abdomen (also in the leg and hand) so how the hell was he still alive? I think the ending would have been significantly better if he had died in the end. Also Mao says "You were always my son Kay" after threatening to find all his loved ones to kill them one by one and after shooting Kay so many times? do people do that to their sons? In all that drama everyone forgot about the poor mother, she never got to find out that Soohyun was still alive or see him again.

And the chief of all people should have died.

AsianDramaPearls Nov 13 2015 12:36 am This was an amazing drama with many twists and intriguing scenes. Action packed all the way through and never a dull moment from the very beginning to the end. Although I liked the ending, they could have included just a simple 5 more minutes (instead of only 10) to create a clear conclusion. While the ending in general was good, I didn't want to have to play the last ten minutes over and over three times to try to figure out what actually happened between Ji Woo and "him." I would classify this movie with other top action dramas such as "Two Weeks" and "City Hunter" (but not Iris, which started out good but I absolutely hated the ending in Iris). You will definitely be glad you watched this kdrama, "Time Between Dog and Wolf."

Drama_Dabbler Sep 26 2015 1:21 pm After marathoning the first 12 episodes of this drama and then, pausing to return to real life twice wherein the last four episodes was watched in separate days, I must say, this drama had me thinking about it all day.

Many people compare action dramas in the kdrama word. I've seen this compared to City Hunter and IRIS, and while I have yet to see IRIS, I have seen City Hunter a few months ago and enjoyed that as well. This drama is different. It's gritty and generally restrained but seems to love irony at all levels.

It has a very 70s/80s cop show feel with some of its jazzier background music and the very neutral, modest cinematography. Plainly speaking, the scenes are not beautiful or exquisite -- its aesthetics won't take your breath away but, nonetheless, it is very artfully done. Therefore, to a modern viewer, this will feel dated and for some, that may very well be a turn off but if you do persevere, the payoff is worth it. Critical and climactic scenes are generally grounded by solid performances from everyone -- leads and support but the heart of TTBDaW is in its subtleties that are couched very neatly inside major movement of the plots. For me, these artful constructions make compelling the very typical plot elements of the action genre that are present here.

What stood out about this drama was the complexity and depth of all the characters present -- their motivations, their struggles, their mistakes and their follies. TTBDaW is an interesting and intriguing watch, and it is certainly a drama I will want to revisit maybe in the next 10 years :)

Emily Sep 19 2015 6:55 am This is a great classical action drama. I watched it countless now, can't remember how many times and never get bored (I myself amazed on how it happens). Lee joon gi acts so cool in portraying Lee soo hyun: a man who has untreated Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder since childhood (thank God he's still raised well by a warm-hearted family). Supporting actors did great job as well. Very nice arrangement of OSTs and background sounds/musics. Action scenes were nice too - even so intense in some episodes. The ending is consistent with the plot, we know that person with PTSD tend to has difficulty in maintaining friendship - especially that long, love relationship. If there was confusion in the plot, it's only minor - did not disturbed me enjoying the story. So, this is one of the best K-dramas of all time and I recommend this to every K-drama watchers.

Aj Jul 24 2015 6:07 pm If you love both these actors, this is a series you want to see, though it is currently only available on Good Drama and to buy on Amazon, none of which makes sense because it is respected by KDrama fans everywhere and on many best drama lists. At any rate, it is a terrific series I wish more people knew about, with both male leads, especially Lee Joon Gi in a remarkable performance, delivering in an intense and terrific story with a satisfying closure.

Rabbitears Jun 09 2015 3:15 am This is a relatively ignored drama. I don't understand why. It's one of the best K-dramas out there. It was also the drama that restored Lee Joon Gi to the top as an actor who was worthwhile to watch because he had SKILLZ - after the failure of Fly Daddy Fly and Virgin Snow (it's understandable why they flopped). Because no one talks about it, I didn't know this drama existed until recently. I love everything about the drama. Nam Sang Mi acts well in this drama as the sometimes clueless but faithfully in love girlfriend. She DOES put him in danger with her stupidity on a couple of occasions - in the car chase scene, the warehouse scene and the cafe scene where she blurts out his name - but on the other hand she saves his life a couple of times so it balances out. As for Lee Joon Gi - this is when I recognized he is an excellent actor. Rightly the director of this drama gave high praise to Lee Joon Gi. I think he should have won Best Actor Award. He plays the two different roles of Lee Soohyun and Kay very well. A shout-out to the stylist because she did a good job giving him different looks for this drama for the two different personalities he plays. The direction was exceptional. The PD is very talented. There are certain scenes that stay in my mind because of the visual impact, such as the last scene where LJG walks on the wall. Also, other scenes such as the shaving scene and the bubble gum scenes - one with Nam Sang Mi talking to her father and the one where Kay is talking with the NIS chief. LJG plays the role of the villain very well, with his smirks etc. Indeed he does well in every scene paying attention to all the details including modulating his expressions such as the one where he walks with Nam Sang Mi in the rain under the umbrella. The gentle, romantic and kind Lee Soo Hyun contrasts sharply with Kay the sexy and flirty bad boy. The sound track was fantastic. I can't praise the producing director enough for putting together a remarkable piece of work. It's fortunate that fate put Lee Joon Gi and other staff with the PD, with a really great drama as the end result. I felt really down at the end when I realized that there would be no more episodes to watch. Also, lastly but not leastly, the supporting cast did a commendable job especially Choi Jae Sung as Nam Sang Mi's father. If you haven't watched this drama yet, do so. I highly recommend it.

Story line was full of action and had high entertainment value and suspense for the viewer to continue to watch until the end without regrets. Without being a spoiler person - the ending was questionable (but that was only 5 minutes of a solid 16 hour drama). Worth watching. Loved Jung Kyoung-Ki in "Falling" and this led me to his work in this drama. He doesn't disappoint.

Our villlian Choi Jae Sung was the perfect badie with a heart. The plot twists were a bit cheesy but, that's quite okay! What a ride! And there were plot holes but, again with such good acting who cares? Spend a couple of days marathoning this drama. I don't regret my time....onto Joeson Gunman. Did I mention I have become a LJK fan girl?

MsB Mar 05 2012 4:20 pm Can I say BETTER than City Hunter?! As this pre-dates CH, it could have been better than TBDAW! I was overwhelmed with how good this way. The first episodes were probably the least interesting but they were needed to show the relationships. But from episode 6 and above, it was fantastic!!
