When Lee La-El (Seo Yea-Ji) was little, her father died unexpectedly. Powerful people were responsible for his death. Her family was destroyed soon after. Lee La-El decided to take revenge and she prepared for the next 13 years. Her target is Kang Yoon-Kyum (Park Byung-Eun), who runs the LY Group. Lee La-El implements her plan with the help of Seo Eun-Pyeong (Lee Sang-Yeob). Seo Eun-Pyeong grew up in an orphanage. After he witnessed the tragedy of Lee La-El and her family, he decided to become a person who holds power. He is now the youngest member of the National Assembly.

Ellen Jan 03 2025 8:32 am If you like revenge drama, this is perfect for you. It is hard hitting and shows evil at its worst and how it can twist people into doing terrible things. Acting these parts is incredibly difficult and Sei Yi Ji has the skill to take on such a complex role. Park Byung Eun reports from his light comic roles and does a good job. So does So Ra and the granddad. I think this rated lower than it should because people didn’t understand the genre. Well done Netflix, it is brilliantly well done and can send shivers down your spine. Well directed and NEVER boring!

Kris Sep 22 2024 7:41 am Eve had great potential, but so many plot holes left it wanting, the writers clearly have never been in a relationship or had children because there was zero romance or parental care shown by any of the characters. The ending became nonsensical and the episodes were too many, probably 10 episodes would have fit the story better The casting of Seo Yea-Jiwas questionable as she is very plain looking and lacks acting skills, Park Byung-Eun was completely robotic and emotionless throughout. Yoo-Sun and Lee Sang-Ye were well suited to their roles though.

Beside that, the story is good, the scenery and costumes are nice. Casting is so/so. I fell like the main lead has a filter on his face to look younger. It could have been a 10 episodes drama seriously.

The tone and the pitch of the voices of the two main protagonists were too melodramatic and low pitch. The best and most convincing in her role was So Ra.

RonW. Jul 29 2024 6:51 pm Spoiler alert: It was mostly boring and should have been edited to no more than 12 episodes. If you like high fashion and beautiful makeup there's plenty of it. So many wasted seconds of staring at expressionless faces pondering unnecessarily. At least l could click off 10 second segments to make it go faster. The female lead survived and got her revenge but fortunately for her, the dull, unattractive male lead was killed off giving her much better chance of living a decent life.

Unfortunately, somewhere during the first episode I was disappointed by the constant look of “boredom” on the mail leads face. How is he the man to inspire any kind of great love affair? Anyhow, I watched the first episode and then saved some time and skipped all the way to last episode (thank you Netflix). What I learned? That I didn’t miss anything truly important in the 15 episodes in between. The series wrapped up rather nicely. Glad I didn’t watch the whole thing though.

It's so bad that rather than getting invested in La El's revenge plot, I constantly found myself distracted by Park Byung Eun's permanently fish-faced expression - which is comical, considering seduction is supposed to be a major theme in this drama. Instead you get the male lead looking bored as hell while the show keeps trying to shove in as many alluring scenes as possible. If 'trying too hard' was a K-drama, this would be it.

This drama could have been a little bit better without the love interest; it doesn't even need any ounce of romance, and there is not enough buildup in the background story of Lee Ra El for me to feel the revenge. Ra El waited 13 years to execute her revenge just to fall in love with an old guy who contributed to the death of her family. That is so stupid; she and Kang Yoon-kyum don't even have chemistry. If she just focused on her plan, I would add 1 point to my rating. The only time I feel thrilled in this drama is when she is inside the secret room of Yoon Kyum; the rest are all bland. Han Sora is the only good character in this show. I am surprised Seo Yeji and Park Byungeun accepted this drama.

A 3/10. This is more of a fashion show between the wives than talking about revenge.

Park Min Mar 12 2024 5:18 pm The drama was visually appealing with sleek fashion yet shallow, drawing viewers in with its polished aesthetics and grand production, but failing to deliver on beyond its initial entertaining value. Speaking of production, whoever handled the post production processing and edit did a poor job with Seo Yea Ji scenes. They over softened her skin too much to an artificial level of smoothness. Despite knowing what's coming, the plot was initially as enjoyable as having a fast food meal after a late night. The entire plot was structured around heavily dramatized drawn out scenarios. This is the type of plot that other shows usually make a parody of it when mocking makjangs. The constant bombardment of flashy visuals and exaggerated emotions overshadowed everything. I admit I enjoyed that aspect of it but only for the first 5-6 episodes before it lost its appeal. Waiting for the revenge to finalize is what kept me going, however, I can't say I'm satisfied with the resolution of the revenge. I was hoping for something different and maybe a bit harsher. Moreover, If I'm not mistaken, we didn't know what happened to any of the children at the end. On another note, the drama came out around the same time as Seo Yea Ji was going through a controversy. I'm not well versed on the subject, but I couldn't help myself to draw some parallels with her character in the drama.

I really wanted to see Lee Sang-Yeob in more dramas, but jebal, as the main lead!

Plot Apr 25 2023 5:38 pm After finishing the drama the only thing that you remember is seduction, seduction and seduction. The whole show only had too much seduction going on that there was nothing else left to it, it was so excessive.

Drama had potential but ruined specially male lead was not cut for the role, he was always stunned and the way he easily fell for female lead just seeing her having sex with her husband he seemed to be so despo. They didn't even give ml time to fall in love with fl he instantly fell for her just watching her getting intimate with her husband making him look shallow.

But not a bad drama.

october Dec 04 2022 8:20 pm i only got to watch like 5 episodes but now i'm immediately kind of dissappointed, because why did la el have to have a love interest? it kind of ruins the suspense of the revenge if she falls for some man lol. and even if their had to be a love interest, why does it have to be a creepy old chairman who clearly is only interested in her for sex and a dumb ceo who trys so desperately to interfere with her revenge and act like a prince charming? la el's character is so hyped up by the show itself, and then it immediately comes crumbling down by things like her unrealistic reactions ( i understand how her past may could have made her emotional, but its not an excuse for the acting itself since you dont need to act that way just to portray emotions ), apparently her adoptive mother who treated her worse? ( i was so excited when i found out that la el had managed to find someone to act like her mother in her plan because i thought it meant la el was truly ready ( yk considering how they make it seem like la el spent her entire life preparing for her vengeance ) to seek revenge and was prepared incase a trouble arrised where she needed aliases but didnt need extra backage ) , and the fact that if this is supposed to be a serious revenge drama where the main character ( la el ) ends up winning ( at least i think she does? I have no clue the shows so chaotic ) then why would la el sweep up so many unneccesary people here?

both the penthouse and eve have so many negative traits in common ( unneccesary subplots, over the top emotional acting, random romance subplots, etc ) that it was really dissappointing for me since i was really excited to watch eve in hopes it wont be as boring as the penthouse!

Also i would say this is the best and my most favourite character Lee Sangyeob has ever played so far.. i mean i kept on falling for him episode by episode. I really hope he gets back the love he deserved, the love he had for Ra el tenfold by Ra el herself.. i need a happy ending seriously ?

Usually I don't enjoy drama where there's cheating in a relationship but we can all agree his wife is cuckoo. Regardless, the ending is quite disappointing sure she's dancing with KYK but he doesn't deserve that kind of ending.

He deserved so much love, the way Park Byung-Eun played his character is very good , I recommend searching if there's an alternate ending instead of watching the last episode

Of course the acting was outstanding - specially the main cast. Han So Ra was a great lunatic villain, I really enjoyed how her descent to chaos was well acted, Lee Ra El's quest for vengeance and her conflicted emotions for Yoon Kyum made this revenge drama much more fun to watch. I think the casting for Yoon Kyum was not right - he was not able to project the tragic figure that he was supposed to be. He was not believable as the CEO of a big corporation.

They managed to keep the rollercoaster going until the end. I watched some scenes with one eye open hoping La El wouldn't get caught. I personally love it. It gives a different feel to Artificial City whereby justice doesn't prevail and nothing changes. Lovers of this genre will be pleased with the thrill and pace, especially in the first half of the drama

The tango scene where she seduces him was laughable not due to the dance technique but due to the filming manner.

I love this drama, the cast were great and awesome. Hope to watch more drama like this. Indeed I feel sad it has come to an end after all the rollercoaster nevertheless I'm honour to have been part of it from the beginning to the end. SYJ did great and I'm so proud of her.

Look at his tearful eyes... It hurts deeper even deeper than La El crying... I am happy to see the ending, where they dance tango together in white..

Di Jul 20 2022 5:46 pm I was very happy when I could see Lee RaEl and Kang Yoon were falling in love with each other. Now that she is treating him badly I’m frustrated. I hope in the end they get together and become happy. Kang didn’t know about the murders and crimes before hand but he did not reveal them to the authorities. It was wrong but I can see a husband not wanting to put the mother of his children in jail. I don’t know about Asian justice but in American just a spouse is not required to testify against one another. I hope RaEl finds a way to get Kang off. Although, in episode 1 it shows him on a rooftop. Hope he doesn’t jump.

Yea Ji's acting this time is better than her previous drama with KSH. She can be sweet and switch to evil right away. All the cast really did well. To those who says Yoon Kyum doesn't deserve the treatment well he deserves it. He knows how they took over gediks yet he acts nothing because he wants to be powerful after all.

Steph Jul 15 2022 10:07 am This series has lost me. The major reasons are Seo YeJi’s interpretation of her character. The constant whispering is annoying and ridiculous. The over the top wardrobe distracts from the story. Its the same as It’s Okay to not be Okay, where the wardrobe takes over her acting.

Eve has turned into another cheesy revenge story that moves at a snail’s pace and the only reason, in my view, that it succeeds on any level is because people were so desperate to see SYJ’s return to the screen after her last scandal.

Park Byeung Eun has one expression on his face 99% of the time. A stony, unsmiling portrayal is unrealistic even for the type of character he plays. I don’t buy his obsession with the FL because there is zero emotion on his face.

It's a credit to him that even though he never received any parental love he is a good father to Da Bi, a much better parent than Han So Ra. I think the actor Park Byung-Eun is doing a fine job with his portrayal of the ML character.

On a side note, can somebody please give Seo Yea-Ji a sandwich. The woman is too skinny for my taste.

The chairman has absolutely no chemistry with her. His character shows no emotions whatsoever. She was always smirking when she hugged him and then all of a sudden she is in love and is struggling whether to let it all crumble down or fight on.

Her overall makeup except few places is really bad,it's clealry looks artist is just rubbing tonload of foundation on her face to give a diff look and not balancing the makeup, its super cakey ,her eye makeup is artistic and they focus camera on it a lot, they need to work on make up, look at han so ra's so much better. Secondly in episode 9 and 10 lot of syj's costumes were terrible too,. One big issue is theres no designer comfy wardrobe in the show, like la el will wake up in mornong and instead of comfy casual wear she will be all dressed in super heavy formal wear outfits.

I have watched 6 decades plus of American and now South Korean TV shows and I have never paid any attention to make-up until this one. I thought the 2 main female characters had the Best make-up of anyone I have seen on screen... It seems to me that the artist made the best of their beauty. Someone said that the Ra-El character was over-the-top emotional. Earlier comments said the opposite. The character watched her father being beaten to death and their were intimations that she, herself, might have been raped. I think that is enough to make a person highly emotional especially with respect to getting revenge.

1) Some fans hate on Kang YoonKyum because He is much older and doesnt look as "handsome" as Seo EunPyeong. I guess some people really watch things for the visuals and have a twisted view about MLs... hey, teens!!! MLs dont have to look like prince charmings all the time or be "friendly faced" neither

2) Seo EunPyeong is always acting like a "savior" to LaEl... but did She ever ask to be helped? She didnt!! Does She really want him to help her? She doesnt!! He always cross the line. He is always on her business. She herself said She doesnt want to be helped or be protected by anyone. Thats her life, She said. She isnt attracted to him either but Eunpyeong keeps doing things "out of love" for her. And then He says: "I love you and I could risk my life for you" like ????? Boy stfu!!! She doesnt love you... you better live your own life on your own terms. After that I realized He isnt doing this just because He feels sorry for her but because He wants her for himself too. Its his hidden intention. Men has ways to show their masculinity and habilities to gain a woman's heart. They might buy you things (I'm rich, choose me). They might do things for you (I'm reliable and charming, choose me). His behavior can be resumed by this: "Hey, I'm your prince charming!! Did you see all the things I do for you?? Because of it You should choose me and be with me!!"

3) Seo EunPyeong knows about LaEl's past so He has a different perspective about who She is and why She is behaving like that. Kang YoonKyum doesnt even know her real name or where She came from. He doesnt know her plan either. Thats why We see different levels of empathy towards her.

4) Why is Kang YoonKyum always stone faced? "He only has one expression!".... well, He was born out of wedlock. His family doesnt take him seriously. They dont recognize him as part of the family but He became a CEO by competence. People want to destroy him. They want ro destroy his achievements. They want to use his emotions to take him down. They are looking for his weakness. Thats why He doesnt show his feelings. He is always on guard... He needs to be feared by people. The only time He showed emotions his mother and fiancee were killed. So what do you expect??

5) Kang YoonKyum is also on revenge plan just like LaEl. He's doing it for almost 15 years too. He has whole room full of data against Han's empire. He married Sora to destroy her and her family. But why? Because Sora killed Kang YoonKyum's mother and fiancee. She had a crush on him and wanted to marry him but couldnt accept He was already dating someone else. Kang YoonKyum hates her... I wonder how it is to be with someone who killed my loved ones randomly like She did... I would feel just as disgusted as He does.

6) There are no angels or good people in this drama. Everyone is flawed and raise red flags. LaEl is sly and manipulative. Sora is pysicotic and delusional. Kang YoonKyum is cold and domineering. EunPyeong is intrusive and meddlesome.

Yeji did not really seem to be uncomfortable but she might have surprised on his intensity. Because he was intense af. He almost aggressively pushed his lips on her lips, out of passion. But it can be scripted too. Of course you can dislike it...Not everyone has the same taste.

He is a very good actor and he played various roles. As you also admitted he was good in other roles. But it is not true that he has only one expression in this drama. Is is true that he is almost always very serious and seems to be cold but in this role he just has to be like that, as it is in the script! The character is a cold and introverted man who has suffered much in the past just like Lael. And no he did not always look at Lael with wide opened eyes, many times not or if yes, he looked at her emotionally and intensively. My favorite part when he got jealous and angry and his expression when he asked Lael "do you want to see me going crazy?" was very credible and then Lael took the leadership between them and after she refused his kiss, he started to look at her with his wet eyes so innocently and became almost pathetic. Like who really surrendered and fell in love so hard and deeply. Where there is no point of return. Another emotional scene I really liked when he starts to play Fate on the piano and Lael starts to dance around him and once he smiled a bit, it was his first little smile possibly for a long time... Also his passion can be seen and felt in any heated scenes. He has a lot of fire inside...

As for me, I wouldn't want to see other actor in this role at all. It fits him so well and I'm really glad that he finally had the possibility to become the main lead now, he really deserves this as he was underrated. I got tired of the usual, boring, pretty guys in the usual, cliche roles, in cliche dramas. Often with overrated idols... I really like how different and unique Park Byung Eun is. Not like others. There are many young handsome actors who are loved by millions but amongst them many are just average to me... I prefer uniqeness and I love intensity too. It turned out that he is sexy, his voice is sexy too. He is also funny and has a cute side which I got to know when I saw him in talk shows and varieties. So I started to be attracted to him, deeply...

Of course, not everyone of us has the same taste, so if you are not touched by him and can't feel him, it's ok.

Ithink firstly he doesn't suit the role, secondly its his first time playing a lead, being in such improtant role,then being in 'this kind' of role and then being cast opposite a young and very popular mainstream acrress- either he's overwhelmed by all of the responsibility or it's just that he doesn't have the ability to play this kind of character. Like I can imagine lee hee joon from drama mouse playing this character perfectly who is same age as park byung eun. Since the start of show PBE has just one expression and that is opening eyes wide very wide open and staring almost about everywhere like that, and when looking at lee la el that stunned face and wide eyes expression gets even more deep. Not a single second of this show that I have ever connected with his acting. I don't even know why they didn't audition him before casting, even the scene where lee la el and kang yoon have to passionetly kiss at that spanish club gosh that was so badly done, seo ye ji was looking so uncomfortable.

Actually I am not a fan of on-going-drama because I couldn't bare to wait every week, but I dare myself to watch it anyway because So Yea Ji charm couldn't be resisted and I'am a fan of Park Byung Eun since Queen of Mystery and this is his drama as the main role, so I am curious, and also really excited to see Lee Sang Yeob acting as his image as entertainer from variety show like Running man and Sixth Sense already planted in different way in my head (if you know, you know XD).

Even though the pace of the story is quite slow for me, but I guess some of the scene needed to let us take a breath and explained some detail, I just love the cinematography. The cinematography just perfect and feel luxurious. I couldn't help myself to desperately waiting every week.

Oh man, this has got to be the angstiest kdrama series ive ever watched and i love angst. Im rooting for La el/Kim Su bin and CEO Kang Yoon Kyum. The chemistry is just arghhhh, unbelievably out of this world. I like the Presidential cadidate Seo Eun Pyeong, too. *sigh* i just hope they get a happy ending. 50% unlikely to happen in angsty series. I'm tuning in until the end. I hope all casts bag awards for this, theyre doing an incredible job at their roles, especially Seo Yeji and Park Byeong Eun.

Brian Jun 16 2022 6:35 pm Have watched the 1st 5 episodes and contrary to some comments already made, I like this show quite a bit. Likewise, I also like Seo Yea-Ji's performance in it. Both of the main characters have childhood issues that might lead to being cold/dry people but obviously "Ra-El" isn't completely unaffected as she witnesses a reenactment of her father's death and displays her horror while trying to control the obviousness while her "host" is blithely oblivious. As an American, perhaps I'm missing something but I think this is quite good.

She acts as a mom of a kindergarten student and tattoos are kinda taboo in Korea, especially if it's that big. It's too big of a detail for the production to miss. Pretty sure it was on purpose.

The male lead is ceo kang yum kyum the man she's trying to seduce and sang yeop isn't a lead he's supporting cast which I know is sad. It's a great show but casting of male leads is not the best part here.

He sounds cold but You can notice He is cautions to his sorroundings but He is also warm and soft to his daughter. Also He wants revenge too and He has all information She is trying to gather being close to Han family.

I think EunPyeong is kinda sus??? I mean... He met LaEl when She was literally a child and treated her like a older brother/father figure.... He hasnt seen her in years and now looks romantically interested in her? I feel a bit uncomfortable seeing this on screen.

Carefree Jun 12 2022 4:02 am Seo Yea Ji and Park Byung Eun surprisingly make a good female lead and male lead together. Yea Ji's acting is top notch as usual and Byung Eun whom I last recall played a psychopath in Voice 3 portrays his new role really well too. I am also engrossed by Yoo Sun's acting but find Lee Sang Yeob's performance a little disjointed so far, can't tell its because of his acting or just the way the character was written. Just finished episode 4 and can't wait for the next episode.

LP Jun 11 2022 5:15 am I'm a fan of SYJ and LSY. I hope there's a happy ending for their characters. The drama storyline is great however, I wished that they would have picked someone else to play the male lead (Kang Yoon-Kyum). Someone with more charisma and is likable. One of the reason I'm not that invested to watch.

And it is good, as the vibe between him and Yeji in the drama is insane... I am really glad that Park Byung Eun is not simply talented (Voice 3, Mistress, Your Honor, etc) but also he was able to show even more his sexiness in this role. He's freaking hot! His voice is very sexy too... It is really pity that he was underrated actor. Hopefully he will be recognized more.

Frankly, she looked quite mechanical and lacklustre in this scene. Not much chemistry there, really. Guess her heart & mind are somewhere else...hopefully this kdrama doesn't pan out with just a one dimensional plot of seeking revenge, like so many other similar kdramas.

The two Fl, they are stylish but not too much. They are not trying to maximize their visuals in each scene, no one got too much time preparing their hair and donning cocktail dress every work day. So they still look practical and more into neatness and functionality which is how it should be. My compliment to all of the hair and wardrobe people.
