A male student's body is found at school. Authorities assume that the student killed himself in a fall. Other students at the school hold a trial to uncover the truth behind his death.

"Solomon's Perjury" takes over JTBC's Friday & Saturday 20:30 time slot previously occupied by "Listen To Love" and followed by "Strong Girl Bong-Soon" on February 24, 2017.
Based on novel "Solomon no Gisho" by Miyuki Miyabe (published from October, 2002 to November, 2011 in Novel Magazine Shosetsu Shincho).
Ko Ah-Sung was first offered the lead female role, but declined.
Kim Myung-Soo was first offered the lead male role, but declined.
Chae Soo-Bin was offered the lead female role, but declined.
First script reading took place November 2, 2016 at JTBC building in Sangam, Seoul, South Korea.
Airing of ep.1 was moved from December 9, 2016 to December 16, 2016 to air JTBC's "News Room" TV program covering the possible impeachment of the South Korean president.

Don't pay attention to Park Min's review: she hates everything. One wonders why she even bothers watching any Korean dramas, she never has anything kind to say about any drama.

Park Min Mar 21 2023 12:32 pm Don't watch it from Netflix/Disney. They cut off minutes from every single episodes. Get the TV version instead. The mystery was dull and its only driving force. There was a need to build up a better case for the importance of the victim before diving in. Once the mystery was revealed, the disappointment settled in. Was this the best they could come up with for the reason behind the death? I was expecting something grand and much darker other than this wacky ass nonsense. The cast performance was decent enough, there was an attempt. Especially with this serviceable production. Go Ah Sung, Kim Myung Soo and Chae Soo Bin were all offered roles but all declined and it seems for a good reason.

This isn't a "must watch".

jieji Apr 28 2021 7:30 pm The cast composed of fully young rising actors and actresses really did an amazing job conveying this story composed of quite mature and raw subjects! They conveyed their emotions very naturally and without exaggerating anything. I loved the scene between Kim Hyunsoo (SeoYeon) and Jihoon (Joonyoung) on the rooftop and of course the ending. From searching online, it was a very underrated drama when it aired, but after watching it, I understand why a lot of people are finding and liking this gem these days

It had an amazing cast who were all into their characters really well and delivered a good story. So full of suprises and twists that it was not predictable at all! I liked the development of each character while they all realised that their prejudices were wrong all the way, how quick they were to admit it and change it and how they drove the trial all the way to make the truth surface. I also liked how each story had an ending to it. Such a great drama. I hope all the characters stay safe and do well in their next projects

I remember want to watch this while airing but didnt want to wait every week but when it finished my life got crumbled and I'm feeling suicidal so this drama always on my bookmarks but I never visit. now that I got better and I love jang dong yoon in the tale of nokdu I remember isnt he also on solomon's perjury?? well seems like its the right time to watch. and as I expected it is such a good drama. everything is so well written and good. its a healing drama for those who have suicidal thoughts or have a close person with suicidal issue <3 thank you jtbc <3. han ji hoon is an amazing character. I love all the casts and the characters too~ joongak students lets do well on your next projects <333

in Mar 29 2019 9:49 am i fricking hate the personality of the female lead. It was so cliche and bad. Every minute they are asking her 'omg are you ok' even tho she is only drinking water. The female lead was so bad, trying to act all heroish. Idk, i honestly hated the script. Meh

nick Nov 16 2018 10:42 pm i watched this show for the first time this week and i would give it a solid 10/10 because the plot was phenomenal, the characters were developed in a way that wasn't monotonous or boring. the more you find out about the characters and So Woos case the more you want to watch. im only 16 and i found kpop and kdramas from this girl i like and honestly i love this show so much. it even inspired me to learn some korean and i think i will commit to learning it because this kdrama was phenomenal and i plan to watch more in the future. but for now 안녕.

peachi Jul 09 2018 12:23 pm Very insightful drama, it really exposed the faults of the micro-society that the school environment established. They did not romanticise mental illness, rather gave insight into how it is truthfully like in real life. I become so attached to these characters! I was bitterly upset about Soo-woo, he is the one who commits suicide and the more you learn about him, the more you wish he stayed alive. The actors/actresses played their roles so well, their characters were completely believable. Sometimes there were irrelevant moments and filler moments. I watched this mostly whilst I was eating. The episodes did not necessarily need to be an hour long but I guess the Korean audience wouldn't mind. Overall I gave, 69/100.

Haz Feb 09 2018 10:54 am I really enjoyed this drama! Lee Joo Ri’s character stood out the most to me, because I didn’t know what to think of her. In the end, I concluded that she’s just a flawed human being (also probably someone with ptsd or something similar). Even though the whole corruption thing is cliche and unrealistic (everything being revealed, justice, yada yada yada ), I find it funny that a roleplay exposed it all instead of the police. On another note, I love their friendship so much. It’s so precious my heart hurts

Nanadrin Oct 27 2017 4:20 am Great mystery / thriller drama. Talks about serious topics like depression, suicide and murder. It also shows us what students face in their school lives. I like it that the main casts are in their youth, it is awesome that they have their own perspectives and opinions and they don't depend on adults just because that's how it is usually. The acting and plot was good as well. So Woo and Jihoon's experiences explained to the viewers that suicide is never an option especially when S.Korea has the highest rating of death by suicide, it's really something to stop and talk about and not just neglect until it really happens because it can happen to anyone at all. Two thumbs up!

Diana Apr 03 2017 12:09 pm I've seen lots of similar dramas, with trial-suspense-murder theme, but this is different. I know what makes this drama interesting..it's the young actors. Admit it, it would be really boring if they held a real trial with real prosecutos and attorney with the real murder case (even though the murder's real). Instead, they held "mock" trial in the school, and I always wonder why they were so serious as they were in the real trial. And those students acted as attorney, prosecutor, judge and even juries, that's what make this drama more interesting.

Although the first episode was not so gripping, the drama kept getting tensier as you move on to the next episode. The production team made such a great job in focusing the mystery of Lee So Woo"s death while putting a little loveline between Joon Young and S Yeon, also Yoo Jin and Min Sok.It just made the drama even better. Highly recommended to those who are looking for a new genre in kdrama.10/10. Excellent mystery/thriller drama.

The plot is intense and tightly woven, there are surprises at every corner so it never gets stale. I can’t express howdeeply moved I was by the ending of this series. I would definitely recommend it.

The male and female lead in japanese version for me are great compared the korean version. Just my opinion. Try the japanese version.

Honey Feb 01 2017 1:11 pm I tried watching it, but stopped at the last two episode. I wonder how and why did I ever went that far. It's good, but maybe because I have watched the Japanese version, I can't help but compare them. I shouldn't have watched the movie first, then it won't have spoiled me from the suspense of the drama. I think Kdrama always can't stand not putting even a little bit of romance, they made some hints of 'crush' or 'young love' in the other characters. Or is it because they were portraying the generation of today, which tolerates those kind of things. And also, I prefer the female and male lead in Japanese version than the leads here, sorry. But I think the leads here are good enough at least.

Danniah Jan 31 2017 2:01 pm Maybe it's because I am not a high-schooler anymore, there are some scenes that cringeworthy or had unnecessary conflicts like, "oh kid, that's not how you should handle it" Lol But.. yeah, this is high-school drama, not suspense thriller criminal drama like Signal or any OCN dramas. Based on this account, I can say that the drama and its storyline are quite good and enjoyable.

The ending is very clear and left no room for any questions. It's so satisfied. This drama leads us to understand why Lee So-woo died but, at the end, it gives very hopeful message that no matter what happens, suicide is not the right answer.

When i watched this drama in early episode. I felt something mysterious about han ji hoon and at first i though he is defendant too.. But i was wrong..

Jihoon is innocence. He just hidden all the facts too open and solve the mystery about seo woo's death.. Jihoon character is so smart and strong . jihoon just brilliant.. Salute ..

But honestly i cant resist joonyoung cutenes too.. Fall in love for joonyoung too ??

dasho caloi Jan 30 2017 6:10 pm honestly at firsr i think this drama don't look good. but when i start watchinh it. episode one did make an impact to me. and now it get me hooked. let's admit that this kdrama is one of the great one but sadly it's underrated. i don't know why. maybe if the cast and maybe some think that is another cliche school drama. but this one has something good to offer and with a lot of life lessons .

Although i have never watched the japanese version, based on people's comment i think the japan ver was much more better than korean ver from the acting of the actors and actress. Because i do see some lack of their acting here. still, this drama is one of the best drama i've ever watched!

They simply want to find answer and comforts after the incident. It is full of mystery and now the end, Han Ji Hoon is finally opening up about everything. It's a healing process for everyone especially the main ones in the school trial. Many are new actors but they act really good and of course, Kim Hyun Soo as Ko Soyeon nailed it. I also love Han Ji Hoon character. It is also LABOUM's Solbin first time act in drama as Lee Yoojin. Each characters have their own struggles. Sometimes we just have to relate instead of making judgements when you don't know them well. ???

Excellent Cast - Even they are young age & fresh, but their acting really accurate & awesome - JDY have less experience than KHS, But he is played well and impressive.

Excellent Script - I've watched until episode 6, i think the storywriter really good at Mystery story - i can't predict the ending, i hope there are some plot-twist to make it more interesting. Not only the mystery story but there are contains a lot of heart-warming stories about family, friendship, and a small portion of romance (dont add too much romance for this drama)

Excellent Enviromental Setting - actually i dont like to watch mystery drama because the enviromental kinda creepy (Japanese version is good at it) but there are already balanced in this one and really good Soundtrack music too.

Sowut Dec 23 2016 11:32 am Tbh, I watched this drama just because Kim Hyunwoo and Seo Youngjoo.. But Youngjoo only appear at 15 minutes at first episode. But I love him since Can You Hear My Heart. I hope he being noticed as a good actor. I know Hyunwoo when she at Good Doctor. She was so pretty and loveable. I love her more when she appeared on My Love From the Star. I hope she will appear on the other drama in future.

Idk but I feel like I love this concept more than Hwarang(?). Because Hwarang's story was too buying time for the core to the drama. But I still watched this both drama

Moonlight Dec 22 2016 2:37 pm About the latest comment, Chae Soo Bin isn't a celebrity. She only became super famous after Moonlight, which doesn't equal celebrity status. She is a really good actress, as it can be seen in Sassy Go Go. Myungsoo is a celebrity though (but his acting on Shut Up Flower Boy Band was good).

^o^ Dec 22 2016 12:02 pm i'm really really glad that they casted less well-known actors for the students here. looking at the first offers to chae soobin and myungsoo, i doubt they would have given off the same aura of true students in their roles. not due to their acting necessarily, but because i feel like if they were cast, most of my thoughts would be about their previous works or how they are as celebrities, etc.

kim hyun soo, especially is doing a great job of making me relate to her character. seoyeon is quickly becoming my favorite female lead of all time. a strong character with human faults but a good heart that will soon be grown into is my favorite. kim hyun soo's acting is also quite stoic as seoyeon; it's not overdramatic like many kdramas, but kind of makes me think i'm watching a well-produced indie film. her stoic contrast to the exaggerated adult school staff is a statement itself. i really hope this story continues at a riveting pace and her character shows some growth without changing completely.

Now, I did watch both Solomon's Perjury movies. I really dislike it and that's a good thing for this drama. I don't have high hopes but at least you've seen how bad those movies were.

If you decided to make this drama because you were inspired by those movies then just stop. Stop! Even if you think that some junior & senior high school students would love it. Just stop. You don't need to feed their teenage angst with more poison.

But if you're gonna do it differently then go on! I think it's fairly easy to go beyond those movies.
