Narumi Kase (Masami Nagasawa) is on bad terms with her husband Shinji Kase (Ryuhei Matsuda). One day, Shinji Kase goes missing. He comes back a couple of days later, but he seems like a totally different person. Shinji Kase is now gentle and tender. He goes for a walk every day.

Meanwhile, a family is brutally murdered and an unexplained phenomenon takes place. Journalist Sakurai (Hiroki Hasegawa) covers the story of the murdered family.

Shinji Kase tells his wife that he came to Earth to invade.

Notes

Based on the theatrical play “Sanpo Suru Shinryakusha” written and directed by Tomohiro Maekawa. The play was first performed in 2005 by Tomohiro Maekawa's theatrical company Ikiume.
"Before We Vanish" will have its world premiere in the "Un Certain Regard" section at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.

Max May 16 2020 11:35 pm Among the 3 'aliens', Kase Shinji was good, but I didn't like the other two, especially the guy Amano - very annoying.

I enjoyed the relation between Nagasawa Masami's character Kase Narumi and his husband Shinji. In the whole film, she practically had to take care of her husband, and in the end, the opposite. The rest I didn't find so much interesting.

Bobo Apr 06 2018 6:27 pm What I liked: - Narumi and Shinji - the idea of "reaping concepts" - the background sound + soundtrack...reminded me of a 90s Hollywood film

What I didn't like: - everything else lol - Shinji mentioned he could return concepts (or at least in the translation I watched) so I don't understand why that didn't come into play later - the 2 other aliens were irritating and so was the other guide - biggest issue was the government handling of the situation...complete nonsense

phikr1 Apr 06 2018 8:15 am at first im not sure which genre is this movie a drama? a sci-fi? an action? a comedy a mystery? a psychological? or just an absurd joke taken too far? im still not sure. but i can say this movie is trying to convey a philosophical value which was shown on the last 10 mins of the movie
