Fans Jan 21 2022 1:38 pm Coming back to this drama after 5 years :D Kim nam Gil and Kim Ah Joong are superb. The definition of actors with talents. Really want them to be paired in a modern enemies turn lovers drama again. I love them bickering and fighting, but finally passionately cuddling and kissing, giving us the real tension of adults' love. Rumor has it that they really had crush on each other while filming this drama. They really got the fans believe that something really happened. That's how good their chemistry was. That is why we need this couple to come back.

I literally sobbed watching that last episode!! My goodness, I did not expect much at first but it was really really good! So worth the watch.

But 1 thing that I never know is this drama is the best combination of everything, love, desire, history, medical history, and even some myths. Kim Nam Gil couldnt be any stranger in this drama. He is naive, passionate, love-driven, and sad. Kim A Joong is just wonderful, beautiful, and successful in every single scene, what a star!! I wish the ending could be a bit longer. I was so waiting for everyone to.be happy and changed. Mak Gae, she finally made it, the director let her pass the border, finally!!! Cant believe they made such a remarkable drama in 2017. I really miss A Joong, I wonder how is she doing now, if she is healthy.. Im still waiting for her to come back on another drama, I will patiently wait like she waits Heo Im. I miss you!

Jaeha didn't get married in the series. The invitation card he gave to the lead were invitation for the marriage of son of the homeless person who tried to apply needle on himself to corner lead's grandfather. They were at the time talking about the visitations of homeless people.

The chemistry between the leads is really superb, every episodes will leave you hanging. And especially the last episode, makgae and jaeha encounter got me curious because I think Jaeha is already married in the drama so I think there'll be a less chance that he'll end up with makgae but I think they'll make a great couple if the story will have a sequel/second season. Anyways, this is an excellent drama, the storyline, characters, actors and actresses, and OST are excellent and beautiful.❤

Admittedly, I initially decided to watch this because of the brilliant Kim Nam Gil, but as the story unfolds, there was no turning back. Despite the back and forth time travel of Heo Im and later on with Yeon-Kyeong, it was just enough and served its purpose each time. Compelling storyline, great acting, oozing chemistry of KNG and KAJ, beautiful OST, not to mention the valuable lessons imparted are what make this drama a hidden gem.

Loved the mixture of the historical and the modernized medicinal treatments. Nam Gil and Jong romance was just incredible. This seems so real the actresses and the actors wow I would say. Linda Karlsson Oct 27 2020 8:07 am This is my third Asian TV series, Heavens Above, A Thousand Goodnights and now this one. Every single actor was tremendous, the stories intriguing. They have inspired me to take a short course in Korean philosophy to understand the concepts of balance, duty and responsibilities. I also use TCM concepts to guide me when it comes to health. Seeing modern and ancient Korea is fascinating. And of course who wouldn’t fall in love with Heo Im! All in all after so much excitement at times I am always left soothed at the end. I will be entertained this winter for sure.

Considering not knowing much about acupuncture it was really amazing... and offcourse well worth chemistry between both the doctors was beautifully portrait by both the actor and actress. Though it was released on 2017 it is well worth a go and from the first episode till last one it keeps you with the flow

Im Gyeong Sep 24 2020 1:58 pm I can't believe I only found this drama now... I happened to stumble upon it on Netflix but I'm sooo glad I did. You must see this drama, it's not your typical time travel genre but it has an interesting twist to it. I enjoyed the storyline, and you also learn many lessons along the way. Kim Namgil and Kim Ajoong immersed into their characters so well and their chemistry was amazing!! (and he's a good kisser too damn, I've fallen for him) It's gonna be a while before I can move on from this drama...

(Some SPOILERS!) I'm hoping for the second season so we can see Makgae's story this time. And I really loved Jaeha's character development (and his father's too). I think the drama was decently paced and not too slow. Side note, I thought Sayaka was a great addition to the story too. All the actors did a great job. I'm going to miss this cast.

Anyways, it's a 10/10 for me. I'll be waiting for S2!!

Leah Sep 21 2020 4:15 pm SPOILERS!! I think this is a must watch just for Kim Nam Gil alone LOL. He is so good and charming as Heo Im/Bong Tak. Kim Ah Joong fit her character well but jeez I am super annoyed how b*tchy Yeonkyung is that my fave part on the drama was episode 9 where Dr Heo is continiously ignoring her.

Also the ending is not that satisfying because their reunion was super short. There is not even a kissing scene at the end. I also wished they introduced Mak Gae to the new world soon, instead we only got her at the epilogue. Jae Ha then would not be such a waste as second male lead.

I hope Kim Nan Gil do more romcom, his kissing skills should not be wasted LOL.

We love sharing each other the korean dramas or movie we had watched. She had downloaded many kdramas and she even finished them already. I asked her to share it with me, and it included Live Up Your Name. At first I have no intention to watch it but my friend told me that it was worth it to watch. And she was right. It is really worthy. It deserves many views. I didnt feel bored watching it and every episode is exciting. I'm still watching and I have not rich on the last episode. I hope the ending is great.

Use Heo Im and Yeon-Kyung as the bed rock, much as her grandfather was in this season. There is no need to further test them as lovers or doctors, the characters have earned both. Let them settle into their relationship, further their careers, become teachers and have children, which are life's ultimate trials. Rather center the next season around Dongmakgoe and her journey to becoming both a doctor and a woman, while coming to grips with a modern Korea with unlimited opportunities, but, totally different, both socially and morally, than the Joseon she came from. She will have Heo Im and Yeon-Kyung to teach and provide guidance, but she will test both of them and everyone around her until she does. Again, an excellent series that deserves a second go around.

I almost dropped it after the first few scenes as I wasn't too impressed by the male lead, Kim Nam Gil, who ended up being my favourite actor and singer now. He just have a special charm that is mesmerizing. The chemistry between him and the female lead, Kim Ah Joong, is great.

This underrated drama is a hidden gem that you don't want to miss.

The time travel element coupled with medical background makes it interesting for me to pursue after the first episode. And the story about how two people's destinies are intertwined is just intriguing. A destined couple heals each other's wound and become a better version of themselves.

I've rewatched it several times and still want to go back to it from time to time.

I'm hoping for a season 2 but if not, at least another project by the two leads - Kim Nam Gil & Kim Ah Joong.

Lovely Apr 17 2020 2:35 pm I saw this drama in Asian Novela Channel of ABSCBN during the replay episode every Saturday. I got hooked by the genre and the story itself. I think, it was already in episode 5 (where Dr. Yeon Kyung was operating with Oh Hara and Dr. Heo Im went to the Shinye Oriental Medicine. He tried to meddle with the oriental doctor who was treating a patient.) when I accidentally watched this. I search LUTN in Netflix and fortunately I found the series. I badly wanted to see the entire series especially the first 4 episodes that I missed. I watched this without any expectation from the actors and the story. (Since I didnt know any of the actors at first) I am fascinated by the humorous charm of the male lead actor. His innocence over modern stuff made me laugh so hard. I am also entice with his accupancture technique. Although, it was only a drama, he skillfully do the accupancture thing that looks him like a pro. On the other hand, the female lead actress here gave justice to her role as a doctor and as someone who is inlove with her man. Her sincerity reflected in the last episode. Her tears broke my heart ?. (I remembered how I much I cried in MLFTS - when Stefi waited for DoMinJoon to come back) It actually gave me the same feels and I dont know why. The chemistry between KNG and KAJ is perfect. I shipped them in my mind hoping that they can be together in real life. As for the PLOT, for me it was not plot driven. There were scene in the drama that I thought this would happened but the drama gave another twist of the story. Overall, I love this drama. If you are someone who loves medical and romcom genre, you wil definitely like it.

I realized that the lead actor was also Bidam in Queen Seon Deok that I had watched 10years ago. I love Bidam however, I wasn't able to know him well after QSD since the internet way back then was not as accessible as today. After watching LUTN, I also watched The Fiery Priest and it was superb. Kim Nam Gil is really a total package in that series. Yes! He deserved the Daesang Award for it. ❤️ I also watched Shark, it was a strong dark story. It introduced me to the another face of KNG.

All I can say is, I am now a fan of Kim Nam Gil. I admire his versatility as an actor.

I felt...cheated?

The reviews here were mostly, if not all, raving about how "great" this series was that I did not hesitate into jumping the bandwagon after finishing The Fiery Priest. But boy, oh boy, this series was truly disappointing.

The comedic attempts failed to uplift, in fact, they were cringey especially on Kim Nam Gil's parts, several side characters were obviously not great actors, particularly, Director Ma, the editing wasn't outstanding in terms of timing in melodrama and comedic parts, plus the dialogues weren't amazing.

It felt like I was watching a 2006-2010 drama when this was actually aired just recently in 2017. Gosh, this series was soooo laid back in terms of editing and directorial techniques.

The only great thing about this was the plot (which, by the way, was written poorly towards the end) and the medical scenes. This was initially promising--- a Joseon man in modern Korea and a modern Korean in Joseon. There was a huge room for a great cinematography and visually stimulating scenes but nope, the director chose not to invest hard on that.

With regard to romance, obviously, KNG and Kim Ah Joong has good chemistry but the chemistry was a lot better when they weren't lovers yet. Their lovey dovey scenes seemed to lack something. Was it depth? emotional connection? I really can't tell.

To conclude, I love Kim Nam Gil but sadly, he really did poorly on this project. Him trying to be funny in some scenes felt too pushed. His melodramatic scenes were even worse. It's as if the couldn't identify with his role that much that he just acted like how he started his character in the first episode, trying to be cohesive. I could go on and on but one thing that comforts me is that he did great in TFP so he could just bury his mistakes in this drama behind.

Kim Ah Joong definitely tried her best in each scene. I can say she really led everyone as the main character and gave her all in the different genres this series was trying to depict. Thanks to her, I really held on till the end.

I know the production was really to blame for the actors' lapses. This drama was already confusing-- showing a romcom, with tinge of melodrama and historical flare. It was obviously too much for everyone to handle that the genres clashed midway, leaving the production into a whole chaos.

It's really up to you if you want to watch this. I honestly don't think I'd regretted watching it though. I was still entertained with the medical side of things. I just really felt cheated. I was expecting a very great drama, but nope, I had the opposite instead.

But one day I accidentally watch this drama on TVN asia, and I was amazed with the story of this drama. Right now, it has been two years I've become kdrama fans and already watch 160++ kdrama.. hahahahaha.. Among 160++ kdrama I've watched, this drama is always my top 10 because it moved someone like me to become kdrama fans. (^_^)

rendiishere Sep 13 2018 3:04 am i found this one while browsing other titles and after reading the synopsis i think this one would be interesting to watch (and it is), bit of fantasy drama like tunnel (back-and-forth time travel) and bit of medical drama like good doctor, i imagined. i really enjoyed the early eps, not a fan of lovey-dovey part but the main cast (kim nam gil and kim a joong) have strong chemistry, i like the comedy between them however their ups-and-downs relationship plus the existence of unnecessary role of jae ha are too dragging.

fave eps: ep 10. scene stealer: oh ha ra & mak gae. overall,, it's pretty enjoyable, too many deus ex machina moments especially at the end lol, but hey it's kdramas and tvn has done a good job, from the idea, execution, bgm, the set, costumes of joseon era, also the casts are great.

i wish they're kept separated, but viewers want happy ending perhaps.. funny epilogue. read somewhere about season 2 but i doubt it, i prefer signal season 2, but if its true i'll watch the next adventure of dr heo im/bong tak

It was okay until episode 4, after that, the story became boring, cheesy, cliche, and undeveloped. So many holes and flaws. The female lead was trying so hard with her acting that it didn't come out as natural anymore. The male lead had some good acting and but sometimes not. The last part almost want me to puke because of how cheesy the ending, the story and the lines were. One of the worst K-Drama I've ever seen. 2/10

I love the plots, the cast, chemistry of Heo Im and Yeon Kyung. I repeat to watch it and never get bored. The acting seems real. I had never been into Korean Drama before until I found this drama. The combination With modern medical treatment and either usung acupunfure quite impressive.. The writer should be rewarded.. The couple were cute together.. And so sad when they are apart.. anon-1 Feb 02 2018 2:59 pm One of the worst drama I've ever seen! It has potential but completely got ruined just after few episodes. The story was all over. So Heo Im was supposed to be a doctor from Joseon who choose to stay with the soldier and treat them during war and refused the king's reward of making him a royal doctor for the reason that he wanted to treat poor people who cannot afford to get treated, ended up needing to be forced to go back just so the history won't change and ended up leaving those poor people who need a doctor like him, all because of a woman. What a great doctor! (sarcasm) He indeed live up to his great name! and truly care for his patients!

The romance wasn't that good as well. The flow of the story was good at the start but ended up getting ruined because the writer ended up catering for what the shipper wanted. So the story got all messed up, a lot of things were left unanswered, a lot of things from the story was ignored. Now if the story wasn't ruined because the writer change the script to cater for the shippers, then that's even worst.

In the end, everything that happened was used just so the main leads could have skin ship and moment together. I have seen dramas with he same genre and theme, that's way better than this one. No wonder a lot of Korean viewers were disappointed.

The ending really saved my heart. Id love to see them together again but for now the happy ending shall suffice and hoping for a season 2 with Makgae and ... :)that would be so fun and cute

Andrew Dec 06 2017 10:01 pm I'm really a picky when it is come to drama. I only watched 3 drama this year(Chicago typewriter, Secret Forest, LUTYN). But when I watched the 1st episode of LUTYN I was really impressed with the differentiate the drama with others drama. Of course I know the cast especially Kim Nam Gil from Pandora. Because of him I would like to try his 1st drama after 4 years. The plot, chemistry were really out of the world. This automatically be my fav drama all of time. When the drama ended I felt really empty and can't move on from it. I watched it when it was still ongoing and it felt really long to wait for the next episode. In conclusion if you want to watch a drama you have to watch this and I guarantee that you will grinning to ears when watching this drama. OVERALL 100/10 with interesting plot. Hands down to the best drama of 2017.

Naya Nov 25 2017 7:06 am Before I watched this, I've never watched Kim Nam Gil and Kim Ah Joong's work. However, I became interested in this drama after watching the trailer. It looked promising and funny. Then I watched it and it was truly like my prior expectation. It is a timeslip drama and the characters will go back and forth in past and present days which is so interesting. Honestly, when I watched a drama, I've never felt like dying every week to wait for a new episode like this. The storyline (you will never found a cliche, boring scene in every single episode), their acting and chemistry (so natural and no exaggerating acting. Kudos to both two lead actors!), the OST (oh, it suits very well with the drama) are great!! Moreover, Kim Nam Gil's character is the magnet of this drama, such an intriguing, quirky charm, yet oddly funny, and I could say that he was successfully portraying Heo Im character (I love his facial expression. So hilarious!). I even rewatched this drama after it finished because it's too good. The only disappointment is the episodes are not enough, 20 episodes would be a satisfaction for viewers :))

To sum up, this is the best romcom drama I've ever watched in 2017 over While You Were Sleeping and Suspicious Partner. If you're looking for a superb romcom drama, then you should watch LUTYN. I highly recommend this!

Heo Im was so funny that im grinning everytime he appears on screen. After watching this great drama, i seem to get bored while watching WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. Im not saying that wyws is not a good drama, i just dont like those cheesy and overly dramatic scenes. I know that it is a highly anticipated drama considering the casts but i just get bored everytime i watch those poor acting. For me, live up your name is way far better than the WYWS

KimKim Nov 09 2017 5:56 am Okay to be honest, i literally cried the whole episode 16. The lead actor & actress are amazing!!! Especially the part when they both have their separate ways, my heart aches for that scene. The story is also amazing eventhough i fell asleep on episode 9 & 10 or maybe i just don't feel political issues. Kudos for the team who made this drama successful!! I don't know if im weird but im shipping both the lead actor & actress. Get married already is all i can say. 10/10

Xxxx Oct 24 2017 9:27 pm I've been an avid k-drama since maybe 15 years ago (since JHS, i know i'm old enough rite now ^_^) but this year (2017) i dont watch any drama at all. bored with lack acting of leading actor, filled with many idols (sorry for that, but i really dont appreciate drama whose the leading actor is come from idol even he/she can act),

but when my sister intoduce this drama and when i see the leading actor, okay not from idol, they came from veteran actor, so i started to watch and the conclution after watch the whole drama with tears blow in my face..... Seriously this is the best k-drama in 2017 and one of the best drama that i've seen in my life, this dramareally grew in my life rite now ^-^ and such a good different with any other romcom korean drama that ever been made.

The leading actor and actress, their acting, the storyline, the cinematography, the detail, the historical that provide and of course the chemistry is the best!!. Many K-drama is also good but sometimes you found one episode is kinda boring, but trust me every scene in every single episode in this drama was so amazing and your dynamic emotions will grew from early episode until the end.

really sad that this drama didnt get big attention, not many fanbase discussed about this drama. maybe bcoz KNG and KAH not categorized as hallyu star and no idol at all.

i know this is a long review, but if you state yourself as k-drama fan, you have to watch this drama. sorry for saying this, but this drama is better than Goblin and Descendants of the Sun.

PS: for KAJ and KNM, thank you very very very much for giving viewers the strongest acting, the best chemistry and the most beautiful emotions that ever came as a couple in k-drama land. i hope any project that will again bring you guys,,, and dont forget many shipper out there wish you a lot become a real couple in real life. hahahhaa.

I saw KimAhJoong in Steal my Heart and 200 pounds Beauty and I was mesmerized by her innocence so I decided to give it a go and Damn I wasn't disappointed... This was my first Kdrama and now I don't even want to watch a movie anymore... They are so beautiful together and their acting is so genuine... I just can't accept any other couple... Also, I consider myself heartless but damn I cried so hard at last 2 episodes... Especially last episode... It took me double the time cuz I started crying and had to pause and clear the tears.... Such is the impact it had on me... This one is truly a masterpiece... If you are thinking whether to watch it or not then heed my advice and don't miss this Gem of a drama...

P.S. This is my first time writing a review... I am one of those guys who are too lazy or think it's too much of a drag to do it and I have watched countless movies and Anime but never have written a review... So if I am writing something for this Drama then it's something really precious for me...

This was fun, the actors chemistry was awesome nam gil is hot. He can sport the nerd or cold character and i must say the lead actress is beautiful. The transition and editing skills are superb! The plot was bearable which means its a mix of heavy & light emotions. It's amazing how koreans preserved ancestral houses which greatly helps their videography. 5/5 stars for 2017

Good writing, plenty of laughs, mature and smart characters, lots of heartfelt moments, and most of all great acting from both leads. You gave Kim Nam-gil oppa the happy ending he deserves to have. Every drama he had, he died painfully and did not get the girl. Thank you so much for not only giving Nam-gil oppa a happy ending, you also wrote one of the best drama ever. I am not kidding, i seldom praise dramas because of its typicality or relying on popular actors to make it a big hit. Live up to your name is so wonderful in so many ways. First, it did not have much complications and no heavy drama that sometimes makes it difficult for me to keep watching it. The characters grew and developed so well, it made me love them so much. I will never forget Yeon kyung and Heo Im in my life, just like how I will not forget Bidam (Nam-gil's role in Queen Seon deok). Another was the fact that time travelling was not super complicated and it made viewers comfortable with the idea of time traveling. Lastly, their love story and chemistry was so well-made and because their characters grew up, their love was developed naturally, two people who had so much hate in the world that they ended up alone and isolate but they learned to love and connect with other people because of each other.

For the last 5 minutes of ep 15 I can't stop crying (litterally crying). Their acting really superb .... when they're together for the last date, their face express their worrying so much.

This drama reminds me of Queen In hyun's man which I really crying and when the story is unpredictable. Without decrease my admire to QIHM's man scenario, but LUTYN have more deep impression because it's not just about love story, but also dedication of their profession and how they must make hard decision.

10/10 for acting and scenario . Great job !!!!

Great storyline, veteran actors, superb acting, and the chemistry is to the highest level. Kim ah joong and kim nam gil deserves to have an award. After this drama, i don't know if i can watch another amazing drama like this again and i'll wait for that.

This is her first drama series i have watched... and this is the first ever drama of Kim Nam Gil i have watched. The story is Time travel genre which is actually quite famous in Kdrama... but...but this is actually one of the finest drama they had made. I love it so much... the chemistry is superb!!! Since 1st episode I like this drama so much, EXCEPT female lead who is too rude towards Heo Im, too narcist and too prejudice. So I did like this drama except for her....

But 9th and 10th episode really make me can FORGIVE her, she's change into better person, be more realistic, be wiser, and likeable. Now it make sense for them make to romance realtionship. They can respect each other and know that they need each other. These week's episodes made this drama almost FLAWLESS and more comfee to be watched.

(((((((((((((( I can't imagine if heo im still dorky, chasing her and she kick him/ask him to go away to joseaon era at 9th episode, this drama would be so dull if the story stuck like that and I am not sure I could continue watching or not) Fortunately it not happen. I like the way Heo Im travels from Joseon time to present era and back, namely, to escape death when his life is in danger. Would that make him immortal? And I like his early appearance in modern time but with Joseon hair style and facial hair. Too bad that writer Kim Eun-Hee made him shave and chopped his long hair.

I wonder if the writer would have him return to Joseon at the end. And would Dr. Choi follow him there?

At first, i hesitated to watched this drama. But, once i watched it, i can't get enough of it. Kim Nam Gil and Kim A Jong make a perfect couple. This drama really meaningful, yet funny. Hope KNG get a happy end, not a bitter one.

Why she is so angry with heo while she works at big hospital too. If she is so ideal and sincere like what she thinks about herself, why doesn't she open her own clinique and help poor people like what her grandpa done. Of course she won't do that because she is so fashionable and like clubbing. Her lifestyle need her to work at big hospital. At least Heo serves poor people at daytime, while she just cure wealth people in her workplace.

One more, she is so silly. Although she worries about him at her mind but she actually not take care of him much as what heo's done to her when they jumped into joseon era. She is so dumb ask heo to come back to joseon era although she knows it's can't be done easily.

In this new drama you can see her portraying in both feminine and bad a** character, her tomboyish way while she is in the comfort zone in her Grandpa home. She is a very good versitile actress. KNG was damn good actor, his eyes are able to speak, looks at how vulnerable he can act when he broke down and his craziest expression when he curious. Becareful and be prepared to cry a river because he will sure deliver it to the max. The most stupidest idea in this drama is , they cut off his hair and sexy mustache.
