Iwane Sakazaki (Tori Matsuzaka) has two childhood friends: Kinpei Kobayashi (Tasuku Emoto) and Shinnosuke Kawade (Yosuke Sugino). They received training at the same dojo. Kinpei Kobayashi's younger sister Mai is married to Shinnosuke Kawade. Also Iwane Sakazaki will marry Nao (Kyoko Yoshine) who is the younger sister of Kinpei Kobayashi and Mai. The three friends are like brothers. Shinnosuke Kawade then hears a rumor that his wife Mai is having an affair and he kills her. Kinpei Kobayashi becomes enraged that his younger sister is murdered and kills Shinnosuke Kawade. To punish Kinpei Kobayashi, Iwane Sakazaki is ordered to kill his friend.

Notes

Based on novel series "Inemuri Iwane Edo Zoshi" by Yasuhide Saeki (published from April 9, 2002 to January 4, 2016 by Futaba Bunko).
Filming took place from March to April, 2018 in Kitsuki, Oita Prefecture and around the suburbs of Kyoto.
Movie's theme song is “Loved” by singer Misia.

Luv2spooge Oct 30 2021 4:50 am The first 40% of the film was amazing. The story was intriguing, the fight scenes were well choreographed, and the plot keeps you engaged.

Then all of the sudden out of nowhere, the whole movie just slowed down and turned from a samurai movie into an educational video on the banking system of the Edo period.

Literally bored out of my mind, enough to come here and make this comment because for 60% of the film I watched them talk about investment in Edo period monetary exchange rate, buy low, sell high. Great, perhaps I can use that in my 401k. I invested 2 hrs into this film and got nothing in return.

Even the love story leaves you confused and wonder did the writers fell asleep? Did the production ran out of money?

Hanako Jan 26 2020 9:00 pm I just wish that Iwane wasn't so selfish and think only about his feeling. Nao is the one who's really suffering. She knows that Kinpei will have to pay for his crime (although very sad back story) and she clearly understands and prepared that the man she loves will have to kill her brother. She accepted, but Iwane feel guilty and sorry for himself only, that's why he left his hometown. Matsuzaka Tori-san plays perfectly Sakazaki Iwane character! Love it! さすが殿様！
