Set in Shizuoka and Tokyo, Japan in the late 1980's. Suzuki (Shota Matsuda) is a university student in Shizuoka attempting to find a job. Mayu (Atsuko Maeda) is a dental hygienist. They meet through a blind date and begin to date, but Suzuki finds a job in Tokyo and goes there. They begin a long distance relationship, but their relationship breaks down.

JNJ Mar 12 2019 1:41 pm This is the most twist filled ending a movie could have. My curiosity was at peak when I found out about it. Besides non disclosing the end, here are other noteworthy features in this movie. 1) Director took arduous task of providing lots of 80s style, fashion, technology, difficulties, fun and lots of nitty gritty things. Those who were born in 70s who watch this movie will definitely feel nostalgic. 2) Communication is foundation of any relationship. This movie portrays how a healthy relationship can break down if it drowned in silence. 3) Sadly, this movie also portrays male domination vividly. It is unmanly for a man to raise his hand. This movie will breaks down anyone who supports such behaviour. Hope all men watch this movie. (I am man, by the way). 4) Initiation Love, also commonly called as First Love to experience what is Love. No one will ever experience same level of their First Love in future relationships. This movie perfectly shared this message. Those who are in First Love watch this. You can save your relationship. First Love is the best Love.

For those who still wants to know the ending, it's open ended. You decide what should be the end. Its just a twist.

I didn't see the full movie, I skipped to end. The movie is too long to wait for the twist. ^_^

For those who loves twists and suspense, watch Todome no kiss (Kiss that kills), drama series by Kento Yamazaki as lead. Each episode has a twist in the end. At the end of the series you will see twist of all twists.

Nat Chan Aug 08 2017 5:25 am Initiation Love's aesthetic is to be neatly tempted by its unnoticeable storyline. Even though the last five minutes make me shocked, but it is a good movie of falling apart relationship.

m Nov 27 2016 3:20 pm Good movie, I love the ending because it's so no one sided and it shows differences of characters in people while one person if make something bad feel wrong, depressed etc, there are also people that have different values :) Totally glad about ending because it's quite rare in movies to see it in that way.
