"Fashion King" revolves around the world of fashion designers, from start-ups in the Dongdaemun area of Seoul onto world class designers.

Young-Gul (Yoo Ah-In) makes imitation designer clothes at a small factory and sells them at Dongdaemun Market. He is in bad financial shape.

Since Ga-Young's (Shin Se-Kyung) parents died in an accident, she is raised by Jo Soon-Hee (Jang Mi-Hie), owner and designer at Boutique Jo, which Ga-Young's parents and Jo Soon-Hee started together. Ga-Young lives and works at Boutique Jo. Ga-Young has talent as a designer. While Ga-Young works under Jo Soon-Hee, she applies to a famous design school in New York. Jo Soon-Hee then hides her acceptance letter from her and eventually kicks Ga-Young out for setting a fire at Boutique Jo, which Ga-Young had nothing to do with. Ga-Young has no place to go and spots a help wanted ad. Ga-Young goes to a small sewing factory, which Young-Gul runs, and gets a job there.

Due to Young-Gul's debts, he goes to Jae-Hyuk's (Lee Je-Hoon) office to borrow money. Young-Gul and Jae-Hyuk graduated from the same high school, but they hardly know each other. Jae-Hyuk is the son of a major clothing company. Young-Gul is humiliated by Jae-Hyuk at his office .

When Ga-Young sees an acceptance email from the design school in New York, Young-Gul is also there. That night, Young-Gul gives her money to buy a plane ticket to New York. Finally, Ga-Young gets to go to New York, but when she gets there, the receptionist at the school tells Ga-Young that the school sent her a rejection letter. Ga-Young is dumbfounded.

Meanwhile, Jae-Hyuk is sent to New York to hone his skills in scouting for the latest trends in fashion.

Young-Gul sleeps with a woman, but it turns out she is the girlfriend of a loan shark. Young-Gul is then chased by the loan shark's thugs. To avoid the thugs, Young-Gul hops on a deep-sea fishing boat.

Notes

Actress Han Chae-Young was scheduled to make her comeback in Korean dramas with this series, but because of delays she chose to work on the South Korean-New Zealand film Soul Mates instead.
On December 24, 2011 first screenplay reading took place at SBS Ilsan Production Studios in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
Filming for "Fashion King" began January, 2012.
Filming for "Fashion King" will shoot on location in New York City, New Yotk & Las Vegas, Nevada from February 11, 2012 through February 23, 2012. Main performers Yoo Ah-In, Shin Se-Kyung, Lee Je-Hoon & Kwon Yuri will all take part in those shootings. Filming in New York City will take place during the city's semi-annual "Fashion Week" event.
"Fashion King" takes over the SBS Monday & Tuesday 21:55 time slot previously occupied by "History of the Salaryman" and will be replaced by "The Chaser" on May 28, 2012.
Seohyun from "Girls' Generation" sings track "I'll Be Waiting" (Gidarilgeyo) for the "Fashion King" OST. The track is released on April 16 and the 3rd single for the drama series.

I thought the cast was good.. but the only closure was the last terrible awful scene till then you wanted people to click, to have some justice, to have some resolution.. just a bit.... but they never did. i was angry for a long time after watching this drama. If you didnt like the ending of the soprano's Don't Watch This!

Honestly, both dudes were scumbags to her but I felt Young Girl (I know it’s not that but it’s a running joke) was the best for her. I don’t understand why everyone is in love with Jae Hyuk. In majority of the scenes he’s yelling at her and treating her like caa-caa and he deceived her about Young Gul then had him killed. And Ga Young is the most selfish ungrateful woman I ever saw! Not only does she forget Young Gil’s birthday but wear’s the dress he made her for her birthday to Jae Hyuk’s dinner. To top it off she treated him like caa-caa on the day his father died. Like just say thank you you stupid girl. Ugh. Didn’t like her. Didn’t like Jae Hyuk. Understood Young Gul.

Jash Mar 30 2021 9:38 pm @bellafaatiha Couldn't agree more with your profound explanation. I also like how the story goes. Maybe some of these viewers didn't encounter a tragic drama yet. That's why they wanted a happy ending. Ga young sacrificed a lot of things for Young gul. Jaehyuk fixed some things for Gayoung: school problem, job issues, factory issues and even taking care of her when she's sick. He's consistent with his feelings for her. He treated her well and helped her grow.

I like the Ga young and Jaehyuk's scenes together. It's peaceful and heart-fluttering. I watched most of Lee Je-hoon's dramas but I loved his role here.

I know that Jaehyuk and Gayoung are meant to be because of how their love story goes. Their scenes are romantic compared to how her scenes with Young gul.

Again, I love the drama though there are few lapses. Just try to understand the story so that you will not find it unsatisfying. The writers of this show don't have any works after this. Maybe, they got affected with the negative feedback. But for me, they're so strong to address a story that depicts a reality, a sort of things that bound to happen in real life. Hope they'll make another piece again and can pass the challenge that they had.

Iris Mar 30 2021 8:00 pm The drama started off strong. It depicts a lot in fashion business and the struggles someone has to passed, be it in illegal or the appropriate way. It also depicts reality, with all the leads personalities and all. Yoo Ah In here symbolizes someone who got cocky, arrogant and crazy when money is involved. Though he's getting on a way to be on top, he's getting greedier and he's desires blinded him to pull tricks to a bigger corporation not properly thinking that everything he's done would possibly backfire to him. I'm not surely convinced if he truly loves Ga young coz he's not also the expressive type. There are times when I find it hard to watch them together when they've become lovers. Maybe because I really see them as co-workers/ siblings. He's busy in striving the business every single minute that I find his obsession towards Gayoung is kind of disturbing. It's also hard to understand Ga young's character coz she's not that expressive in what she feels. She symbolizes someone who is decisive sometimes and someone who is willing to sacrifice when that person is important to her. In the story, she's kind of spontaneous in her decisions, it's constantly changing.

One that I like about the show is the patience Jaehyuk has for Gayoung. He's consistent with his feelings towards her that she waited for her. Though I know he's not also purely kind when it comes to handling the business and I could understand him coz he only wants to be acknowledged by his dad.

About Choi Anna, I honestly disliked her from the beginning but as the story goes, I could finally understand her. She has sacrificed a lot and it's good that she's been doing well in the end.

A lot of viewers were enraged by how the series ended. But for me, I could understand the writer's decision to have a tragic one. In dramas, tragic is really a horrible and sad genre, but I fully understand how she puts it in reality. Young gul has walked a really hard path and has a lot of conflicts with several people so it's possible that someone would be after him. Just like in real life.

I was just not satisfied with the few screen time given to Jaehyuk and Ga young in the end. I want to see more of their interaction but I think the writer just wants the viewers to use their imagination on their possible relationship.

Overall, it's a good drama. Though, we could see some loopholes but still the writers have come up a great story line for everyone striving for their dreams or goals.

Lim Li Li. Jan 28 2021 4:31 am This drama is too good to not have a sequel. Ga-Young will thrive in her fashion school and her fashion career and her relationship with Jae-Hyuk and his family. But she still thinks of Young-Gul. He is her 1st love and her best love. Eventually she will revenge his death. The person who is responsible for his death is the same person responsible for her parent death - Soon Hee. But why is she silent and passive when she heard the gunshot during her last phone conversation him? This, the sequel will have to explain.

Mel Jan 03 2021 11:04 pm Was there a moral lesson in this drama that I might have missed? I don't understand the ending. But that aside, the story was very repetitive, which is why I didn't watch the last episode in full; I felt as if I had seen it before except for the ending. The fights, take overs and the main character always failing and beginning again. He had his flaws, the biggest being biting more than he could chew and never having contingency plans. He talked a big game, but his ending felt as if he was just a small boy playing with the big boys at the big leagues. He lived such a rough life; he deserved better than death.

bellafaatiha Apr 02 2020 8:41 pm too bad most people cannot see how beautiful this drama is instead demand a happy ending. both younggul and jaehyuk are not heroes in this drama, instead they're just two of ordinary men who wants to survive. both are losers. younggul who wants to be rich and jaehyuk who wants to be praised by his father. - younggul as the main lead portrayed as a bad guy in the first place and being greedy eats him alive, and he also selfish. he doesnt want to work with jaehyuk but he managed to work with jo boutique eventho gayoung told him over and over that she cant work with her because of what jo did to her in the past, still he doesnt want to listen. - jaehyuk, he also not the perfect character here. he is snob cause he wants to covered the fact thas he lacks in managing. we also can see that he still got advice by his father and pampered by his mother--if you can see it, she's a loving mother despite her cold appearance. she cares about jaehyuk and even she despises all the girls around jaehyuk, still she wants jaehyuk to be happy. remember that scene where she offered to take gayoung to his house as long as jaehyuk stop being sad i felt so touched by this scene, its really showing her love to her son. he's not a good director in the company and he seems clueless, but he still trying to learn how. he might be the one who started all the fuss with younggul--when he rejects to lent younggul some money--but the way younggul always uses him for money, then it shows that younggul's obsession is to make jaehyuk suffers. younggul sees gayoung as his moneymaker in the first place, he sees her talent and wants to keep her in his company. even if there is a soft spot in his heart, he might thinks that gayoung is his lil sister. he doesnt love gayoung the way jaehyuk did, not in romantically way. he simply doesnt want gayoung to run to jaehyuk--his biggest rival. yes, he might be the one who helped gayoung first and gave her money so she can go to NY to attend school, but he also the one who caused gayoung got kicked from school. younggul feel sorry for that so thats why she wants gayoung to stay in his company. that is why when gayoung finally confessed to him, he uses that as an excuse and even kissed her to show her that he loves him too, but actually he wants to get her back to his company but his actually intent is to make jaehyuk suffers. so when gayoung finally found out that younggul's plan to take over the YGM company eventho youngyoungapparel doing well, that is when she realized younggul is being greedy. even choi anna warned younggul to stop but again younggul never listens. jaehyuk's father can read the situation and thats why he said this 'never ending circle' revolved younggul and jaehyul has to be stop. that is why he ordered jaehyuk to finished younggul, cause if its not, younggul's greediness will never stop cause it shows already when both of their company are in stable state, younggul still wants to pick a fight with jaehyuk. so, jaehyuk's father decision is cruel but maybe that's how business life is. it is dirty and cold. so i still can't get it what viewers expect? did you guys really watch and understand the story or distracted by the visual of the casts? as for gayoung and choi anna, i prefer gayoung here. both are also not the perfect heroine. choi anna is a lil snob and sees gayoung as her rival cause her obsession is jaehyuk, and also it hurts her to realized that gayoung is more talented in design. choi anna has talent, but her true talent in marketing and public relation shows when she works for younggul. gayoung is the victim here, she has nowhere to go and she has one-sided love towards younggul but i glad she finally can see that jaehyuk loves her wholeheartedly all this time. jaehyuk might wants to teased gayoung in the first place cause he's a womanizer, but knowing gayoung has no interests in him makes him curious, the fact that gayoung is so talented makes him wants her more and he jealous that gayoung still live at younggul's factory. he shows this too everytime anna meets younggul, but its actually not jealousy. he just doesnt want anna to be nice to younggul, cause anna works for him. jaehyuk might be cruel here cause he dragged anna so she can works in his company--cause he thought anna still got 'that' talent in design--so thats why he pretends to still in love with her but actually he's not. now lets talk about all the main casts performance. yoo ahin and lee jehoon clearly never dissapoints, both were portrayed their character perfectly. younggul and jaehyuk fits them perfectly. as choi anna fits choi anna character perfectly too, she's so cool and classy. for her debut drama, i think yuri has successfully did it. and shin sekyung, i fell in love with her cause of this drama. she fits lee gayoung perfectly, she doesnt talk much and she suffers a lot HAHAHAH she is perfect for that kind of role. so at the end, i just wanna say, i love this drama. this is tragic and yas this is how life works. we fucked by life and life can be cruel sometimes, but that's life. we just live it. and as for viewers who demand a happy ending for the main lead--younggul--well you have to watch more movies when the main lead supposed to be dead. seriously, maybe you guys are expecting kdrama has to be end in a happy ending. well lemme tell you, not every kdrama has to be end like that. sometimes you just has to understand the story and the character in the story. fashion king proved it that the story is well-written and all the strong characters are portrayed perfectly by the casts.

His life is make me very pity him. Who that no one understands and know about his sad life even main lead actress. He’s have a beautiful heart. Why? Ending he die? Peridot Nov 28 2019 5:58 am I remember how frustrating this drama was for me. In the beginning was good. Later on, I realized the plot was getting repetitive. And the ending even made it more frustrating. I know shit happens in life, but there wasn't really a closure, a wrap-up to the story.

It's okay to be sad but it have to be clear and satisfy like scarlet heart ryeo not like jung ok jung. I read many negative comments but still watch it because of yuri. christina Jan 13 2019 8:34 am Guess my view is quite similar to @Mag Jul19,2017. And I was pretty surprised that I was not the only one to watch this drama 6-7 years after it was up. The story was indeed sad but I am glad I have faith in Yoo Ah-In's choice and went ahead to watch even after reading the comments here. Personally, I would like to watch it again because I am already having "withdrawal symptons" over it! Focusing on each of the character is the key to enjoying it. Putting myself into their sitation helped me understand from the writers' perspectives. It is my first time watching Lee Je-Hoon and it will surely not be my last. Yoo Ah-In fits into any character...non of his dramas has ever disappointed me. To me, Shin Se-Kyung is usually quite stiff or some considered that unnatural but she's really pretty and she really fit well into Lee Ga-Young. In my opiniion, both Young-Gul and Jae-Hyuk loved Ga-Young truefully but the life of the Young-Gul was too difficult for him to love wholeheartedly and therefore not as suitable as Jae-Hyuk, who though snobbish, really was a faithful person...to An-Na (till he found fault in her character), to his secretary Kim (always teasing him with his rice-bowl), to Ga-Young (whom he fell in love gradually) and even his father (angry when Young-Gul was rude towards him). Fashion King is not about fashion but about our choices amidst life many struggles and the consequences that may resulted from it.

Tata Aug 13 2018 5:35 pm What a poorly-crafted storyline? so many highs and lows throughout the drama but the final conflict only unravels in episode 20 leaving so many loose ends without proper conclusions. The drama starts with almost slapstick type of gangster conflict and then completely leaves this storyline for most of the episodes, focusing on the high life of fashion. Then all of a sudden this gangster type ending hits the viewers at such a tragic level that it almost belongs to another movie. There were so many ways to end this drama with some redeeming values for the main character. What a waste of time for viewers and money for the producers. Invest in a good writer next time!

Or subconsciously I hated the ending! And that's why I've only been able to finish 5 drama's since watching while more than 30 drama's that I've tried to watch I always seem to lose touch with them and stop watching either right before watching the last or second to last episode cause I'm scared another drama will disappoint me o.O

But I will go with I loved it, found it realistic...in a way

- Ga Young did not success in anything with her talent in the end. - Young Gal did not reveal what's GG stand for and died before finish his dream with Ga Young. - Joe, the villain in this story, loses only her shop and we still don't know what happen to it in the end. - What will happen with Young Gal employee in the factory? Those people help developing the story in many ways. - Why Hyuk can accept Ga Young so easily? - Finally, the most disappointing thing is we don't see Lee Ga Young brand!!!

AVA Oct 09 2017 11:31 pm The story is inspiring striving to achieve your goals despite all the hardship and challenges and I believe you will be more inspired if the ending is not tragic it seems that after overcoming all the challenges then it went to nothing. And the lead actor Yoo Ah-In is great and a very good actor you can feel the emotion by the expression of his face. But the lead actress yes she is beautiful but i think she really needs to improve her acting....it seems that she is acting awkward while filming this drama no emotion at all even she is crying, happy or sad just one expression cold.

Nosh Jul 16 2017 10:27 am This is amazing! Not one of my fave, but being able to finish a drama is a great feat for me. Either because of cliche/predictable plot or too much romance, I always end up watching few episodes.

Anyway, this made me hate and love the characters. Tho I'd never love Lee Ga Young, she was too passive except for the time she stood up for Kang Young Gul in front of Jung Jae Hyuk. She annoyed me most of the time. However, I love Kang Young Gul, he was too real. His perseverance to be successful, his hope and desperation when he was starving and living on the streets and his justified hatred for Jung Jae Hyuk made him so human. The way his attitude and character changed throughout the story made the drama more exciting! I loved and hated him. He had his flaws which made me frustrated and at the same time admire the story more. On the other hand, I liked Jung Jae Hyuk. I wanted him to be with Lee Ga Young. He showed his passion for her tho he knew she loved someone else. He was not as coward as young gul when it comes to love. And I like him even more when he told Lee Ga Young that Kang Young Gul was in New York. He still made Ga young choose. So I didn't believe he'd do something so terrible. He simply didn't do it. (If you wanted to know what he did, watch it)

The ending. It was so unpredictable and made the drama more unforgettable.

I really like the couple Yooh Ah In and Shin Se Kyung since I've watch the Six Flying Dragons but their ending has always been so tragic. After all those things they suffered together bu then they were never meant to be. That's why I really hate this drama, the death of Young Gul was not justified nor do I know who's the murderer or did Ga Young already knew that Young Gul was supposed to die on that night, that's why she didin't budge by the sound of the gun and when she asked him abouton where he's staying at. I have so many confusions regarding the ending such a cliff-hanger.

For me, this was a wonderfully written script with talented actors and strong male leads. The supporting cast at Young Young had their own fun spirit. I binged through the entire drama and then bought my own copy from Amazon.com. If I watch it again, will the ending change? haha. Young-Gul was never going to get over his poor roots and Lee Ga-Young needed a different man to handle her and to resource her creative talent out for success. I always want Lee Je-Hoon to get the girl. I've also bought my own copy of tragic 'Something Happened in Bali' by same screenwriter. I'm in the process of watching all the dramas written by Kim Ki-Ho and Lee Sun-Mi......more dramas to buy !!

Lana kiniv Feb 23 2015 12:29 am At the end of this drama I was not surprised at all to find out that the writers for "what happened in Bali" are the same writers for this drama. While that should be a good thing, in this case it's not. Even though, if u have watched what happened in Bali, déjà vu type of feeling will fall upon u, because it gives off the same emotions as the later drama, it is not even close to being it. Even tough the plots are very similar this drama is a disappointment. To me what happened in Bali is very dear and one of a kind so it makes this drama that much more unlikable because of the imitation. Will give it 5/10, which is all due to me having a thing for crying guys, and the 2 leading men did a pretty good job with that, they broke down and cried their hearts out for the somewhat cold and distant leading lady quit a few times.

On the upside, I thought Lee Je Hoon and Shin Se Kyung were very good.

I thought the secondary female lead, Yuri, was a really poor actor. I could never get a sense of her as as a believable character. Which is surprising, giving the depth of acting talent in Korea. Badly miscast.

I found the Kang Young Gul character to be somewhat irritating and annoying. He basically destroys Lee Ga Young's budding college career and doesn't really seem to show any remorse about it. And his actions in America don't really make a lot of sense. I would have just headed to the Korean embassy, explained what happened, and taken it from there. Trying to live illegally in America seemed like a fairly inexplicable choice. Also, he seemed to be a real ass kisser, first with the mutineers, then secondly with the loan shark. I did not find this to be an admirable trait.

When the Jung Jae Hyuk plots to steal credit for Lee Ga Young's design work, I found it incredibly off putting. Up until then, I had actually liked and sympathized with the Jung Jae Hyuk character.

Also, I found it unbelievable that Lee Ga Young would move back in with Jo Soon Hee after she was deported back to Korea. For starters, Jo Soon Hee could have had her arrested for trespassing and secondly, Jo Soon Hee could have just changed the locks and Lee Ga Young would have been unable to get back in. Basically, you can't really move into someone's home without their permission.

In addition, after watching 6-8 episodes of this drama, I feel like I've gained no insights into the fashion industry. Which makes me strongly suspect that the writers of this drama knew little/nothing about the fashion industry.

In summary, 1. horrible casting of Yuri as the secondary female lead; 2. ass kissing by the Kang Young Gul character was a major turn off; 3. criminal and extremely unethical behavior by the Jung Jae Hyuk character was also a major turn off.

Writing had some interesting patches but was generally very uneven. The big problem with this drama is that it fails to understand the sensibilities of the audience. When you turn your leads into despicable/contemptible characters, you're treading a very dangerous line -- you risk alienating your audience. Which is what happened with me. I had to stop watching it after the first 6-8 episodes.

liese May 01 2013 2:05 pm i should have expected no less from the writers and director who did "What Happened in Bali". most dramas they worked on probably had similar endings, i find them tiresome now. i don't think it was necessary to throw in a morbid ending. it completely ruins the rest of the story. OKAY we get it, happy endings are overrated, sad endings are more "creative". but still in my honest opinion, the ending was a sad attempt to try to engage the viewer, it was lazy of them to throw that in, given they've done this before. the beginning of the drama was good, after lee ga young left it started deteriorating. they basically dragged it on for way too long. i would say they started out with a good idea and approach but could not develop the events and twists as well as they hoped to.

Not all people get the chance to have a happy-ever-after life. The story is full of chaos, traitors and most all they depicted what is really REALITY. This may have a very unhappy ending but I totally love it very different from the other dramas that I've watched, unique for me. Fashion King has jampacked with great actors/actresses. however, I like the new look of the drama and how they choose nice stylish design for dressing and cloth. I also like kang young because he was playing under-skin and even without an-na or ga young he could run the show with his emotional acting and wither it goes to the end, still his acting rule the show.

Ga-young was stupid because no matter how many times she is deceived she still runs back to YG instead of Jae-hyuk whos intentions were sincere. The ending was fair and definitely worth watching to pass time, i rate it 8/10 but would love more of it, can't get enough because from now on the show will be good because Ga-young has no more interference from that bastard YG.

Kwon yu-ri in my honest opinion is just average, i don't know why people find her so attractive.. even Shin Se-kyung who played Ga-Young is way more attractive

just my opinion but I thought Fashion King was pretty good maybe up to episode 8 and still decent up to episode 16. just went downhill from there. it could have been salvaged with a better ending that did not leave more open questions than it solved but the last 20 minutes of episode 20 was from leftfield.

I know people watch these things are fans of certain characters but you shouldn;t project onto them just because you think one is more attractive to you than the other or you think one was "nicer" than the other and ignore the story.

Don;t ignore the premise of the show which i think from the beginning was supposed to be about the 2 young designers with nothing versus the big bad corporation. Besides, the JH character was an asshole right to the end when he puts KYG's company out of business for the 3rd or 4th time-he could have chose not to do it plus fund LGY's fashion show but keeping with his personality that he thinks he's better than everyone he did the asshole thing so why should he be rewarded? it was actually a good thing for him to get his face beat up by the dad because he and Madame Jo cost the company alot of money for putting their partner out of business. She should have gotten her punishment in the end too.

So they changed the end of the story to reflect a different sentiment-that KYG chose money over love and regretted it and ultimately lost his life. it;s just a little unbelievable that it would end that way. again just my opinion....

Personally, I watch dramas for entertainment. I was entertained until the end. I've never had such a bad aftertaste from any show. It's 20 episodes, so it's quite a commitment. The ending was overly dramatic and, "artistic" for a television show.

Honestly, what were the half the episodes for? Nothing.

This drama will definitely keep me away from dramas for a while. I'm sure everyone can agree that we all could have been doing something else. Writers nowadays think they have too much freedom. It's entertainment, people watch it for positivity from their own lives.

This is the first time an ending has ruined the rest of the episodes for me. When I think Fashion King, I'll be thinking about psychokiller / psychogirlfiend / psycholover / psychoparents / murder.

and...what happened to, "fashion?"

But if I were to choose between the two dramas, definitely it would be "something happened in Bali"! They probably tried if the story would sell to the audience again, oh well the answer is that they failed!!!

Denise Jun 21 2012 6:18 pm I am in the middle of this drama. The way the lives of these characters has developed, I expect Kang gul to die in the end. He's a hustler who doesnt really work. His life has been one tragedy after another. Plus he doesn't seem to learn from his experiences. Jae hyuk is so sad in that even though he has advantages he keeps getting beat down by the people around him. He is a sad young man but you want to see him find his legs & succeed. I secretly root for him to find his inner strength & humanity & he can do that with the help of Ga Young. Ga Young is talented & a hard worker (while Kang gul takes advantage & credit for her work). Therefore I want to see Jae Hyuk & Kang gul together at the end. I dont care what happens to Yuri. She is just an appendage in the story. I hope I get what I want.

I thought she was adequate as the 2nd female lead considering she wasn;t given much to do. So i don;t think any criticism against her is warranted. you can only have something if the writer gives you something.

what is more glaring is that the LGY character played by SSK started out okay but turned into a 1 note/1 word/1 sentence character by middle to later in the series. she became a prop to be dragged left and right by the 2 male leads. that's disappointing.

other than that YIA was actually pretty good in my opinion. he showed alot of range in his acting.

Mark Jun 02 2012 7:00 am At first, I thought that this would be a great drama since the main characters are not the usual rich-poor combo that many Korean dramas tend to go with nowadays. However, as the story progressed, I noticed that the conflicts keep on coming, with barely little of these being resolved. I do not know what the main writer's intention is, but I'd have to say that this drama is mainly focused on revenge and vengeance. I even cursed at the writer, whoever he or she is, for writing such a dreadful material. Also, if Yuri isn't Yuri, I'm sure she would be blatantly insulted by viewers for her bad acting. Also, Shin Se-kyung's role lacked a lot of character. It's either she's crying, staring blankly without answering, or saying the one liner "Sorry", "Thank you", "Excuse me?", "Yes", or "No". If there's any good thing about this drama is that, I'm sure Ah-In would land into more lead roles after this. He was exceptional. Watching him as Geol Oh in Sungkyungkwan Scandal and Kang Young Gul in this drama, I can't even tell that it was only one person portraying those two characters. He is a versatile actor and I commend him for his great dedication to his craft. Nonetheless, this series wasn't good at all.

im sorry. i just finished watching the last episode of fashion king 5 mins ago and looked for a website with comments about the show because i need to have some sort of debriefing session about the end.

i could care less that he gets shot. ok, it ends tragically. but there needed to be some sort of closure to it... whether we see flashbacks of ga young who was actually trying to destroy the young gul from the beginning. or whether we see see jae hyuk leave young gul's condo with a gun so we know he killed him and how he got into his apartment. or whether young gul was dreaming the entire time and we see him in his original state in the beginning sleeping on the desk with his feet up. or we see a flashback of ga young venting to jae hyuk about not wanting to hear from or see young gul again because he causes her heartache so he tells her his plan of shooting him.... or something!

also, it seems like ga young was in apart of young guls demise all along because at the end she just smiles after he gets shot. obviously she heard the gunshot so she must have had something to do with it.

FK was my first korean drama and the only reason i even wanted to watch it was because of Yuri ^^

Well i liked the acting and the transfer of emotions a lot. All lead actors did a really good job. It was much more natural than the silly stuff i know from american or european soap operas and dramas.

The script was horrible though. From the first episode to the very end. The whole plot and even the characters behaviours didnt make any sense for most of the time. Sometimes it was very annoying to watch. There were episodes with frustrating long and pointless love talk and some episodes had the plot completely rushed like every 2 minutes some twist was happening. If the main characters, especially LGY, wouldnt be so undeciesive the whole story could be handled with half of the episodes.

But i still dont get why you guys are b****ing about the ending so much. Of course it didnt make much sense and didnt even fit to the rest of the scenario, but how was that anything special compared to the rest of the show? Since the whole drama was somehow meaningless up to that point, why should the ending be any different? I was even pleased somehow, that they had the guts not to make a shabby happy ending. Are your lifes such miseries that you cant even sustain painful tragedies? I think its good they draw the line by having young gul shot. The story has come to an end. The writers can now try to make a better drama next time, instead of fixing this story mess.

Though i doubt i will watch another drama in the near future. Its just not my type of TV show. But i def. will watch some show sometime again if Yuri is playing there. She is the reason why i dont feel i had my time wasted. I mean Shin Se-kyeong was also a cutie and i even liked the male actors somehow, but nothing comes close to the black pearl for me :)

The part of Jae Hyuk, who is shown to be a sociopath, was given to an actor with boyish good looks and then shown to be beaten by his daddy in order to elicit sympathy in the audience.

The character of Yang Gul, who is shown to have a good heart in the beginning, is then after becoming rich dressed as a clown and made to look bad even though nothing that he did could actually be classified as revenge.

The women are weak willed and manipulative. The message is supposed to be don't be too greedy or have a will of your own and let the big guys win? Quite a few viewers wrote that they actually believed that after watching this. This proves that this movie is promoting slave mentality.

The outrage of the viewers is, I believe, stemming from the complete lack of human decency that this drama promotes and not just the ending.

To the amazing actors I would like to say please be careful when you choose your next drama and stay clear of these kinds of people that produce this kind of disgusting story.

Madman May 30 2012 8:22 am whats sucks is that I actually liked the show in spite of the the flip flopping nature of the LGY character which was getting a little annoying. i wonder if they took an internet poll and asked the audience to decide who should she be with this week and next....I also hate that that turned her from this capable go getter type of girl into a rag doll being dragged back and forth by the 2 guys.

I kind of lost it after she was forced to quit the job a day after getting promoted. lots of good conflict and drama that could have been generated there-especially since it was obvious that JH only promoted her to keep her there and the dad revealed that maybe LGY winning the Fashion King contest was fixed. that felt like they were going into another story arc and then just canned it prematurely.

about the only redeeming quality JH had was that he was stalker persistent in landing LGY finally by the end. just creepy. Yes he was nice to her overall but he was borderline abusive too. She wasn;t in love with him and JH stealing the letter and the plane ticket was just wrong. Can;t start out a relationship with a lie. he;s a guy who was in love with being in love-he went from the first girl to Anna to LGY like nothing.

How it should have ended-It was all a plan by KYG to not get ruined for the umpteenth time. instead of just beating his son up, should have been revealed that JH and Madame Jo caused the corporation to lose their money by putting KYG out of business in such an ill advised way-they were business partners afterall and they tried to steal the GG brand-so now they got it for 150 million. then the dad should have had both of THEM killed them. their evilness should not be rewarded. Anna deserved to be twisting in the wind as a well for jumping ship like a rat.

LGY should have had her fashion show and revive her parent's boutique by rehiring all the workers. months or years later, could have been revealed that KYG plotted it all.

the ending doesnt make any sense at all and i didnt follow all 20 episodes for this kind of ending. so disappointed with the story line. how can bad guy win. totally unacceptable. they have shown how deeply both young gul and ga young love each other throughout the drama to have an ending like this, its completely irrelevant.

Not only was it rushed, it just felt like we should have been watching a gangster drama not one about love and hope. YG is a character that is obviously a talented person but he made so many stupid mistakes, JH is a spoilt brat that wants everything and the girls... They need to grab some brass balls and tell the men where to go... So many times throughout the show did I find myself telling them off for not speaking up... The acting I thought was good, it was hard watching Yuri because she is normally such a bubbly smiley person in interviews but she did a great job as well as the others. I do hope they do a season 2 and have YG come out on top.

Madman May 24 2012 11:54 am Terrible ending-in my opinion, it lost steam around episode 16. too bad, i was enjoying it up til then. set up perfectly as a david vs goliath struggle with me rooting for the young guns to take down the corporation.

even the final episode, was good up til about 20 minutes left. We knew the rich corporation was going to try to ruin KYG for about the 3rd or 4th time. He was going to be abandoned or betrayed by the likes of Anna. But he had an escape plan setup by giving up GG/YGM brands for the 150 million he pocketed in the merger and the ending could have been him emerging triumphant in the end plus LGY having her fashion show and reviving her parent;s boutique.

What we got instead was just alot of unfinished loose ends. LGY started the show as the competent designer everyone wanted but ends up JH's doormat.

The killer is formed by Madam Ho and Jung Man Ho , action in killing is secretary Kim. In episode 19 Madam Ho Soon Hee already told Young Gul, although now she is a loser but oneday she will make sure Young Gul will re-pay what she had lost ......, arrogant Young Gul replied Madam Ho that he will look forward this day to come.......

To kill a person it requires plan , plot and action........

Planner and Plot is formed by Madam Ho and Jung Man Ho , Jae Hyuk only dare to make Young Gul bankrupt, he will not kill Young Gul personally as she does not want Ga Young to realise that the hatred towards Young Gul, Ga Young is smart but is young and naive she does not know how to identify things in certain ways.........

Did you notice that Jae Hyuk steal the letter from letterbox in episode 20 , he read the letter and hide it, Jae Hyuk does not want Ga Young to know that Young Gul loved her.

Jae Hyuk wanted to re-start a happy relationship with Ga Young, by hiding the letter ,Ga Young will never know that Young Gul's true love.

The writers indicated very clearly that Jae Hyuk hired the assassin. His father told him what to do when he told him the story of King David. The chairman would not have have hired the assassin himself because he wanted his son to prove that he was a man and could get his own woman. He made that very clear.

Also we see that M. Jo goes to Jae Hyuk and tells him what to do to destroy Yang Gul. It is show that she is wanting him to do the dirty work.

Ga Young did not do it. We see her face full of love and hope when Yang Gul tells her he misses her and invites her over. She would not have heard the shot because Yang Gul called from the roof top of a very noisy city.

Also there were no gangster associations in the story line towards the end.

Also Jae Hyuk was actually in New York when Yang Gul was shot. Why would that be shown if it was not supposed to be inferred especially after what his father told him and that it is shown over and over again that Jae Hyuk was prepared to do anything to get Ga Young.

What an horrible ending... I really HATE it !!!!! I dont think that JJH hired that person who shot KYG , it what probably madame Jo (I don't known if you remember, but during the show, KYG even suspected her being implicated in accident that caused the death of Ga Young's parents.) However I believe that JJH has definitely something to do with why KYG left so suddenly. KYG loved Ga Young and would not have left her. He loved her so much that he even went to his "enemy" to ask money for Ga Young's fashion show. The only thing we know for sure is that KYG offered to give up (not sell) his shares of the company in exchange he asked JJH to pay the fashion show of Ga Young. And after, we learn that he (KYG) took the money for the shares and left. I don't know exactly how but I strongly believe that JJG did DEFINITELY orchestrate this all this. This way, Ga Young would think that KYG left her behind for money and he (JJG) would have a shot with her. I would not be surprised if the "arrangement" between JJH and KYG even included the fact that KYG would not call (contact) Ga Young. You know when JJH goes to Ga Young's place, finds the letter from KYG and hides it and then goes inside and ask her if KYG has called her yet and then we see KYG holding his phone and it is quite obvious that he wants to call her (and it would have been so easy to do) but he doesn't do it...

About Ga Young, I am so much disappointed in her, I didn't like the way she acted through the show, how she was kind of "two timing". If she says she loves KYG she should have stood by him and directly told JJH that she was not interested (and to leave her alone). But the end was worst, juste because she thought that KYG abandoned her, she should not have left with an another man if she loved KYG...

As we are not 100% sure that KYG is ready died because he did not get shot to the head (as there was not blood on his head after the shot) and to the heart either, the writers should make a season 2 and KYG should survive. Otherwise, watching this show, what a total waste of time!!! I have never been so frustrated about an ending

We all tricked and fooled by this writer already. When i figured out the mystery i knew who killed Young Gul. The person who arranged and killed Young Gul was Madam Jo Soon Hee.

Jae Hyuk cannot think of this ideal to kill Young Gul, Jae Hyuk has the ability to made Young Gul went bankrupt by listening to Madam Jo Soon Hee.

Madam Jo Soon Hee is a very wicked lady who treated Ga Young badly, accused Ga Young and chased Ga Young out of the house......

As Madam Jo Soon Hee's daughter is still the employee of Jae Hyuk's company, she will strongly helped Jae Hyuk in planning a way to attack and destroy Young Gul.......

In business wise Jae Hyuk has the ability to help Madam Jo Soon Hee, therefore Madam Jo Soon Hee will not be that obvious to end the business friendship with Jae Hyuk.

But Young Gul was the one who made Madam Jo Soon Hee who suffered a lifetime hatred. So the killer is Madam Jo Soon Hee.

This writer made me very angry went into a guessing mind game, now i knew my answer is correct is Madam Jo Soon Hee.

At first i thought was Jae Hyuk , or maybe was Ga Young or Jae Huk's father all the guessing wrong already. The answer is Madam Jo Soon Hee who plot planned and killed Young Gul now i finally read the writer's mind after wasting my energy to complete watching the whole drama.

Writer is cruel king not fashion king.

But later on the main role Young Gul's character selfishness is ruin the drama. I prefer Jae Hyuk and Ga young end up together. Hwer I knew the scene was already wrote and made as Young gul and Ga Young will end together and hurting my favorite Jae Hyuk. Since the ep 13 so I decided not to follow up with this drama, turned to King 2 heart and rooftop prince as those two never fail to disappointing me as fashion king. I like Jae Hyuk's character and cute face.

Viewers all watching this drama did not notice something.......comment and feedback from me, writer should not include episode 18 with a scene that Jae Hyuk's father how he tortured his worker by stepping his leg at the worker's back......

Bad impression to me that Jae Huk's father is like errant employer, writer in future do not include this unhealthy scene in other dramas....... bad education to employers.....

Although fashion king drama is trying to tell us is a "dog eat dog world" in order to survive in fashion industry , but that doesn't mean employer can treat employee like "dog" should be mutual respect, respect each other......., although is a drama, but this scene cannot be like that......

Let's hope got interesting scene in episode 19 and ending episode........

davia May 14 2012 2:29 pm The realism of this drama and the superb acting by all the actors has made this one of my favourite dramas. It appears to be too psychologically oriented for some to appreciate but for those who do it is wonderful. Yoo Ah In's Yang Gul is incredible. A street smart character with a good heart and hidden depths Yoo Ah In has built a character like none I have seen before. Shin Se Kyung , wow, has the most beautiful spirit that I have ever seen on the screen. The sensitivity of her portrayal of Ga Young is superb. Loo Je Hoon's intense portrayal of Jung Jae Hyuk who has Border LIne Personality disorder with NPD is heart wrenching. Yuri is perfect in bring to life Choi Anna a lost soul desperately looking to find her way but lost in her manipulations. Plus the realistic glimpse into the fashion industry is fascinating. For me this is a 5 star movie and I want to thank all including the writer for this interesting drama.

Michael May 11 2012 9:17 pm I love the whole series and can't wait to see the next episode. I am favoring young gul and ga young to be together, but my favorite actor is Lee Je-Hoon! It is exciting to see them succeed and globe trot anywhere they want to go and have the best apartment in New York, but then again, it makes success look easy and it is not. That's why I like it. I can forget about reality and get lost in the drama and I love it. I hope it continues for a long time.

I don't wish Young Gul and Ga Young to be a couple as their relationships more suitable like brother and sister. I like this drama more on Jae Hyuk and Ga Young , Anna is making use of Jae Hyuk as he is a rich man's son , Anna loves Jae Hyuk all because he is a rich man's son . Where Ga Young more suitable for Jae Hyuk . Ga Young is talented and kind, if she ends up with Jae Hyuk , she can changed Jae Hyuk to be loving and also help his business.

I watched this drama, Jae Hyuk is very poor thing he has an unreasonable stepmother, who always chased after him and decide things for him. If his wife is Anna it will be worst, although Anna loves Jae Hyuk, no point having a wife who has a character as terrible as stepmother.

I hope the drama director will paired up Ga Young with Jae Hyuk together and Anna will be together with Young Gul then it will be a nice drama. Episode 16 preview i see Young Gul met Ga Young i got very angry, Jae Hyuk now loves Ga Young no point going back to Anna.........

Let's chase and watch this drama and we will know the answer ..........

In the other hand, the main actors have great acting skills cause it kinds their acting makes you part of each scene, specially Young Gul-love u- and Ga Young they really transmitted how the character feels. keep on and i hope every one of them a good future in their career.

Just as everyone's been saying on this post or any other post, more people are going to focus on her because it's her first drama. That makes sense to me so I don't see why it doesn't make sense to others. Her acting is a bit stiff at the beginning, but it surely does gets better in later episodes. Quite honestly, I think the majority of people are watching this drama because she's starring in it. Considering how poorly the story line is I wouldn't even bother to watch it if she wasn't in it. Therefore, her popularity only better the drama.

MG Apr 14 2012 4:32 am through what i saw so far, it's pretty interesting and has it's funny moments, young gul character is the best in my opinion, but i really like ga young.. but what's bothering me is how much attention people give yuri..! it's understandable but if her acting was that impressive or at least the amount of scenes was bigger than i would have giving her more credit.. i hate how idols popularity hurt other actors who are actually a lot better... any way if you want to see this drama don't do it because it has an idol, but because it's good regardless..

Not that I dislike Yuri or her acting. I just think that, as characters go, she's not likable. And everyone is really great in this drama. Personally, I think the best surprise of this drama for me is Lee Je Hun. He's so versatile! rich snob one moment, rebellious and cute son the next, and then a jealous fightin man! smexy!

I'm not from korea, so i guess i missed out on the "we all love kwon yuri" party invite, but all the comments supporting yuri are getting a little annoying.

I'm not saying she's not a great actress or singer because she is both, but really, tone it down a little. the drama is called "fashion king," not "yuri is queen." Shin se kyung is wonderfully beautiful, (and everyone else, as a matter of fact,) deserves just as much praise for their work.

And before all of you yuri fans bash this comment, i will repeat myself: i mean no disrespect to yuri, only that this drama doesn't revolve around her every move and the other actors and actresses are on the show for a reason too.

I truly feel d sadness in Lee Ga-Young's role by looking at her eyes n facial expression.. it's something you know! Abt Yuri, i think she's being too stiff in her first appearance myb bcuz this is her first drama.. anyway in eps.4 she changed a lil bit so she's okay.. in my opinion, Anna get close to JaeHyuk juz bcuz she wants to revenge for his previous mistake.. (hahaha.. i hope so..)
