Story depicts the romance between So-Hye (Kim Hyun-Joo) and Hae-Sung (Joo Sang-Wook). So-Hye is a popular TV drama series writer, but she has only 6 months left to live. Hae-Sung is a poplar actor, but he is not good at acting.

"Fantastic" takes over the JTBC's Friday & Saturday 20:30 time slot previously occupied by "Hello, My Twenties!" and followed by "Listen To Love" October, 2016.
First script reading took place July 20, 2016 at JTBC building in Sangam, Seoul, South Korea.
Ji Soo was diagnosed with acute osteomyelitis (bone infection) and underwent surgery on September 13, 2016. Ji Soo’s filming for “Fantastic” will resume when he is ready. Because of this, his character's scenes have been decreased.

Jay Jae Feb 17 2022 4:37 pm Some of the earlier scenes seem a little protracted... but as the series proceeds and the theme develops it takes on a different dimension.

I guess its possible I feel this way having been through a similar experience myself...

Overall, it is the most moving drama series I have watched yet.

Kim Hyun-Joo is awesome!

Joo Sang Wook looks like a younger, skinnier Park Myoung Hoon. I'm not feeling him in this role. Waiting for him to catch the lazy eye like PMH. I'm only an episode into it though. I'll give it to episode 2 to see if it gets any better. If it doesn't, then I'm on to something else.

I love every scenes of JSW & Kim in this drama plus her other friends in this story like Park shi yoon, Kim tae hoon & that young handsome lawyer Ji soo! I'm so glad it's a happy ending since she was fighting cancer oopps sorry spoiler! I dunno but somehow I was hoping for season 2? or am I the only one who does? anyway, i love JSW & Kim hyun joo's chem in this drama! they looked good together! 2 thumbs up waaay up! i loved it!

Jinjoo Mar 29 2020 5:05 pm i never thought i'd like this drama & am enjoying every bit of it! JSW as Ryu hae song was super funny but w/some kinda innocence in him in the Love Dept! He's such a sweet man to Lee so hye in this drama and this is somewhat a bonus for me coz i'm a huge fan of both KHJ since her early projects & I came to like Joo sang wook since his early drama Giant! I love their good chem here & I hope we'll see both of them again in another proj! I find this drama very addictive & love the story all together! LSH got a nice cir of friends who love her & I just hope for a happy ending fingers crossed! I regret not watching this while airing but to me it's new even if it's a few yrs old! :) I highly recommend this!

Kimmy Jan 21 2020 4:07 pm I have no complaints about this drama.it was beautifulfrom the beginning to the the end. It has so much warmth and love that i was smiling in every episode. This drama showed a love triangle which became a great friendshio between the two men and the lady they loved, with both the guys being so great you cant help but love them both. I honestly havent watched Kim Hyun Joo before but she was great here. Park Si Yeon already was one of my faves before watching this so it wasnt hard to love her character and loved hwr relationship with Ji Soo's character. The relationships between all the characters were great. Hated the villains and loved everyone else. Amazing drama. Got me to apreciate my life and to live as best as i can.ts definitely worth watching.

I loved how the expectedly “heavy” subject on cancer, terminal illness and coming to terms with one’s own mortality was written and portrayed in this K-drama.

Remembering how to live life to the fullest through giving premium to loved ones’ presence in our lives; having joy in the simple things such as waking up and living a day at a time, being brave and facing challenges head-on especially with headstrong women in the cast and excellent male leads not afraid to show their own vulnerabilities was what made by 16plus hours watching this so worthwhile and invigorating!

The back to back to back unconditional love stories between So-Hye and Ryu Hae-sung and between Sang-wook Kim and Sul Baek and Mi-Sun and Pil-ho was definitely the icing on the cake; the right mix of laughter and tears; and best of all, the “Bromance” between Dr. Jun-gi Hong and Dear Hae-sung was what makes this K-drama endearing and definitely one for the books, on top of my list!

But the writer is very good in developing emotional scene

the OST choice is very precise, really help making me cry ... LOL

(some good korean drama has failed building dramatic emotion because the OST are totally out of sync with the scene )

And the actors did the good job

Arihant Feb 25 2018 4:36 pm I normally tend to avoid terminal illness dramas as they have mostly predefined endings and are full of angst and melodrama.This was the reason I avoided this show for a lot of time.Took it up on a lark and was instantly hooked with the first episode.

Kim Hyun Joo is exceptional in this in all aspects.Her performance as a patient brings out the pain without making it melodramatic.Great actress and very beautiful in this

Joo sang Wook is the male lead and he parodies himself so well (The lead character is a Hallyu idol whose acting sucks) but added equal heft to the emotional scenes.His looks of hurt,pain were beautifully conveyed and will be one of the most memorable Kdrama leads ever!

Writing and direction is top notch.This truly is "fantastic"

ParkSiYeon Mar 24 2017 11:23 am Fantastic!! Its a sit-com drama more than melodrama. However it has a very similar start and ending like "Scent of a woman".. Spoiled from the beginning so everything has set up. I really enjoy the small comedy scenes. However, the slow and repeated scenes of sickness, hating, wake up are really boring and made me feel it could have been ended earlier.

For those who is new with Joo Sang Wook, thats because you havent watch him enough, try more! IMO, I know most of his signature drama projects. JSW is famous for his self-flattered charisma, silly jokes but can cause a weird and hilarious situation, over behave but it is on purpose. Top of it, he knows how to act naive and some may say "cute". TBH, I come to watch this because of my bias angel Park Si Yeon and I was a bit disappointed with the female lead at first. However, when I see how beautiful the lead couple stick together, then I have no more complain.

My famous scenes is how people suffer with So Hye's cooking skill. Just like in some animes LOL~ And... "noona ssi, saramhanida..!" <3 <3 v<

Mike Jan 02 2017 3:13 am I enjoy watching Kim Hyun-Joo because I think she's gorgeous and a terrific actress, and I enjoyed the acting of Park Si-Yeon, but I am in disagreement with those who believe that Joon Sang-Wook is a good actor. This is the second drama that I've seen him in and in both he played almost the same exact character - both of them at an extremely annoying level. I first saw him in "Cunning Single Lady" and gave up on that drama after ep. 8 - it just got so agonizing watching him act and his constant laugh over every single comment became so irritating! To say he's a good actor is stretching it a bit because it seemed to me that he would be lost, as an actor, if the writers didn't have him paired with a (what the business calls) "straight man" to carry the role. I liked the premise behind the script but, in my opinion, this drama would have been better if the writers could have cast a better male lead - Kim Tae-Hoon probably would have been better in the lead role.

I have never heard about this drama, I just accidentally saw it on dvd here in the Philippines & buy it even w/out knowing the plot of this drama. That's Kim Hyun Joo's magic. LOL. I'm on episode 2 and so far I love it. Kim Hyun Joo is such a great actress & hope to see her more in Kdrama.

Hope2 Sep 10 2016 9:41 pm Joo Sang Wook(JSW) is so funny, one would never ever think that his real forte is dramatic/action acting. It clearly proves his multiple facets. On the other hand,Kim hyun Joo is no stranger to comedy. Her, award winning "What Happens to My Family", leaves one in stitches laughing. In " I Have a Lover", she proves her gift for heavy drama, as well. "Fantastic" is so enjoyable, so entertaining a show to watch. Kudos to the cast, directors and script writers.

However, I just wonder if So Ji-Sub (SJS) is chosen as the main lead in this drama instead of Joo sang Wook. He fits the expected template considering his funny antics in "Oh My Venus". I have read a blog somewhere, sometime that Kim hyun Joo was the only woman SJS admitted to have been in real/bonfide relationship many moons ago and disavowed other relationships, whatsoever. Wow! That statement coming from iconic SJS is totally awesome. Wonder if it makes KHJ's heart flutter--flutter. It could have been a nice reunion between the "has been couple" and who knows there could/ might be a rekindling/spark of lost romance/ love/ feeling. Hmm-hmm. Consider these similarities between the twosome: both of them continue to remain unattached publicly (why??? afraid to hurt each other? ), both of them have never been embroiled in any real life sex scandal, both of them have received so many awards, both of them have the economics safety nets should anyone chooses to leave the glitzy world of film and television anytime (I think). Where are their common friends? Is the word MATCHMAKING no longer in existence? Ha! Ha! Ha! SJS and Kim hyun Joo to be cast in a romance- comedy would surely be a hit and award winning project for everyone to look forward to.

Blunt Sep 03 2016 11:30 pm The stories in this drama are excellent, especially the bad actor's story (Ryoo Hae-Sung) and the mistreated wife's story (Park Si-Yeon). But I am not that impressed by the writer's story (Lee So-Hye). Her character is somewhat shallow, and they never show her actually writing stuff. I suppose the news of a cancer would have an effect on her writing, but they don't show any of that.
