The fate of these people become twisted due to "hwanhonsool" (the soul of the dead return to the living).

In the country of Daeho, Jang Uk (Lee Jae-Wook) comes from the noble Jang family. He holds an unpleasant secret about his birth, which people all around the country talk about. He is troublemaker. Jang Ukk happens to meet Mu-Deok (Jung So-Min). She is an elite warrior, but her soul is trapped in a physically weak body. She becomes Jang Wook’s servant, but she also secretly teaches him how to fight.

Seo Yul (Minhyun) comes from the noble Seo family. He seems perfect with good appearance, intelligence, and strong martial arts skills. Go Won (Shin Seung-Ho) is the crown prince of Daeho. He hopes to become a generous king.

Watch & laugh with me. I love the fact that everyone had their own love stories. Funny ones. As I'm typing this review comment right now, I'm recalling some of the scenes & I'm laughing out loud.

That's why we can't get over her on the second season. Soo upset no one mention her name in the first episode of new season, so i stop by left a comment here.

Replacing Jung So-Min and changing the story line in season 2 is unforgivable. Mu-Deok's body was the one fished out of the lake.

Love the scene with UK and The Prince when these blue and red marble colour lit up. So funny and the perfect background music make it more hilarious ?I can't hardly wait to finish this. I just started this series and I can't get enough of it lol

Even though, one of the leads was played by one woman in part one and another woman in part two, it fit perfectly with the plot and ended up giving a perfect reason why Jang UK could not recognize Mu-Deok without making him look foolish.

Usagi Feb 06 2024 6:04 pm I love AOS season 1 so much! I laugh all the time from episode 1, but I hate the ending and I get bored with AOS season 2, so I just end my AOS on episode 19. The comedy here is so funny, the chemistry between the actors are so good, I love the action too, Seo Yul is soo cool. I love the bromance between Jang Uk and Crown prince. Jung So Min plays Mudeok very well, I fell in love with her from this series.

wokieboo Jan 19 2024 12:18 pm It's quite good, I thought it was overhyped but it's really entertaining. I feel like they're dragging to the end though. I'm on episode 18 and I want them to start putting the pieces in places and doing the reveals of who's really who but they seem to be beating around the bush, and that usually ends up with everything being stuffed into the last half hour of the last episode. I know there's season 2 after but that's not an excuse for bad pacing.

Also loving the Crown Prince so far. He's probably my favorite character; he's kinda arrogant and loves Mu-deok's boot licking but he's also perceptive and was able to see through Shaman Choi/the Queen. And though him and the main group has had their squabbles, he doesn't hold a deep grudge and usually ends up helping them. Shin Seung-ho needs to get some more lovable roles like this one, I feel like he's usually playing villainous characters.

Fantasy story is not my cup of tea, but this series really is one meticulously prepared production. Heard through the grapevine about team Korea, once they are seriously sizzling hot, laser focused into some work or goal, they could exceed the highest bar you set. This is one example of work well-done.

The ending was even dumber than all the other episodes. I liked the characters, I really did and everyone played their part but their choices were just dumb.

Quite definitely the most interesting kdrama and a tv show in general that I've seen in the past few years. The premise is fascinating, the visuals are excellent, the acting is fantastic and the ending is a tragedy! It's a true thriller with villainous villains and real character developments.

One way how I tell for myself if an actor is the right fit for the role, is what emotion they elicit in me despite how their role is set up to be perceived, whether they are supposed to be the good guy or the bad girl. And in this show, the two main standouts for me were the Assitant Gwanju Jin Mu (played by Jo Jae-yoon) and The Shaman-Queen (played by Kang Kyung-heon). While watching and rooting for the main protagonists, I reveled in how much I despised Jin Mu, every time he was on screen my skin crawled and I was genuinely thrilled when plans fell apart fom him, and even more excited when he sneakily tried to flip any situation to his benefit. But the Queen... man, that meltdown she had when she was confronted at the end was mesmerizing and one of the best performances on TV I've witnessed.

A few more high points. The execution of one of the best background relationships, in my very short memory, between the leader of Songrim Park Jin, the Maidservant Kim and Master Lee. It served as the best comic relief while also being an excellent character study and just another place for the show to flex on how many characters they could change during the short time on screen. The King's off-handed order to kill someone to see how the Ice Stone worked. It was such a short little interaction, but showed a completely brutal and uncaring part of a monarch who's used to getting what he wants and has gone very much past the point of what is considered humane. The fickleness of the Unanonymous Assembly. A spot on depiction of hunger for power, lack of responsibility and looking out for only yourself. The Crown Prince. I did not expect him to be set up as a likable and reasonable person. Though, I could've lived without him having a romantic interest in the female lead.

All in all, the writers really did their job well in making complex, multidimensional characters, showing everyone's dark and light sides, even the despicable Jin Mu who, in the end, was pained to a degree by his Master's death.

There weren't any plot points that didn't make sense, or at least I don't remember any, but even when character's action ended up being pointless, it was acknowledged and they tried to make it into a teachable moment. The story telling is superbly dynamic, though (and this is my personal pet peeve) there were a bit too many flashbacks.

One of my very favorite parts of this is the fact that they made the ending the way that they did. It was tragic, it was unfair, it was painful, but, it stayed true to the story and the overall tone of the show. If they had tried to twist something sweet and sentimental out of it at the end, it would not have worked, because in my opinion nothing short of killing everyone could've. And, because that's what they did, the show turned out so fantastic.

The characters themselves you get attached to and u don't want anything to happen to them (even side characters). This show is a must watch! I cant wait for the next season!

Mudeok was the funniest & she had the most character growth. So Min is so good at acting with her face and body and I don’t care that she is 9 yrs older that Jae Wook, they had really amazing chemistry and a deep relationship that made u root for them. Jae Wook, Minhyun and Seung Ho were outstanding and i wanted Mudeok to be w all 3 of them! All the 2ndary characters were amazing, costumes and production and writing all stellar. One of the best fantasy shows I’ve seen — Korean and Western!

fan Jun 09 2023 1:15 am Well, people have their own opinion. As for me I am very choosy in what dramas I watch so after 2521 this is the only drama i have finished and enjoyed until the end. So it is not overrated for me. Although this Season 1 is definitely much better than Season 2 in every way but especially acting from the female lead. Just a heads up Somin playing Mudeok/Naksu/Buyeon here will be replaced by another actress in Season 2 so don't get too attached. I mean if that's possible.

Literally watched the first episode got me hooked and I binged the first season in 4 days (fell asleep at my desk at work) then the last episode had me so messed up I had to binge season 2. If you only watch one, do the first one but that will probably get you so worked up you watch season 2

I very much like the clean and pure sensuality of the characters without the need of sex performances. The fights are enjoyable because there is not exaggeration showing blood or torture, or screaming or yelling to demonstrate power as in too many movies and or series. I have to watch it a second time to enjoy it again. I really like South Korean dramas and historical series. Congratulations!

ari Apr 07 2023 2:06 am this series is a Masterpiece. as a long time kdrama fan, this is one of the kdramas that impress and left an incredible impact to my life. after finishing this drama, i feel empty and sad. i love the plot and the characters. moreover, the casts' chemistry with each other is another factor of the succsss of this drama. Lee Jae Wook and Go Younjung finally got the recognition they deserve. Jung So Min is remarkable as always. Ka Insoo's duality from AOUAD to AOS is amazing! The love stories in this drama is so heartwarming except the complications of the late king, jang gang, and Dohwa. Overall, i love both seasons and season 2 is my favorite! Thank yoy AOS for healing my painful heart and made me happy for a short time.

I fell in love with him instantly. First time i see his acting, a great actor, gorgeous and charismatic!

I find the story where they can place their soul into another body refreshing and new. Such an intriguing story, no wonder this was a hit drama. All story of each characters and family will make you curious and anticipate for the next episodes. Love it!

The friendships, relationship of the main leads, families, and the different mages are thrilling. All of the actors/actresses are good but I like Jung So Min's acting the best! Though I find the chemistry of Jang Uk and Mudeok a tiny bit lacking. But still they are lovely! I already grew fond of So Min as Naksu so I don't know if I'll like the next season considering it's not her anymore.

Anyway, I'll rate this a 10/10.

I took a pause between parts to adjust to the cast changes but everything in this production was such high quality that I fell in love with it all. Contrary to many comments here I did get the explanation why Jin Buyeon looks like Naksu - it is Mu-Deok's body but in the process od de-petrifying Mu-Deok's body they used Naksu's Energy so the face startet looking like Naksu's (creating oneself according the image one has of oneself). BUT I also miss Mu-Deok / Jung So-Min. Here role was fresh, funny and strong and Part 2 lost a lot with her not playing in it anymore.

Future kdrama star Feb 04 2023 4:10 pm I like this story but it did drag on. Season 2 is better. I gave up halfway on season 1 and then picked it up. Love the chemistry between the leads. The king is underrated actor. He plays insecure and anxious so good. The crown Prince has a very deep voice lol. It surprise me. I think 16 episodes would have been perfect for season 1. However episode 20 made me cry.

I loved season 2 but I wouldn't watch it without watching season 1. Naksu is so cute! I love the chemistry with the actors. The kissing scenes feels real. The second season is fast paced, fill with action and more humor. It should have 16 episodes All the actors look comfortable and natural in their roles. Jang UK is handsome as the destroyer. Jin mun is the ultimate evil villan. I hope we get season 3.

White look Feb 02 2023 10:50 pm The writer decided to use the sensational ending to unfold the story in the next season as in so many popular crime dramas I've seen. I didn't like spoilers so I didn't watch any trailers or interviews before, I just watched the drama. I was in immense shock and had a hard time after the end of season 1. I loved every character in the drama so much, so I prayed they wouldn't have to suffer anymore. Luckily, it came true in season 2. My heart felt more at ease, but when I suddenly remembered, I felt sad because of that tragedy. I've had a lot of thoughts for months. I thought that if it had been a novel, if the characters had only been drawn from words, pages and my imagination in my head, not so clearly, so intensely, I probably wouldn't have been in such a predicament. Now I feel fine to look forward to the next works of the cast. Let's look at things with a positive look.

The first part had interesting and comical relationship between Jangook and Mudeok, the second part had romantic and incredible chemistry between Jangook and Buyeon. Love all the cast chemistry. Satisfied with the ending episode. A must watch for fantasy romance lovers.

jas Jan 04 2023 7:18 pm I don't like this if im honest. The plot moves slow half the time I don't understand what's going on. Overload of characters. Sometimes less is more. Also I didn't feel chem btw the leads. Like I love them both as actors but there weren't any fluttery or passionate moments. I couldn't even sit through the last 7 episodes without skipping through because of all the irrelevant scenes in the middle. It's like they tried to jam-pack all these genres and couldn't find where they main focus was going to be. I haven't seen the second season but if the plot didn't interest me enough to watch the first I don't even know if I should waste my time watching the second.

Seo Yul hasn't been much of a friend to Uk asking the wife Bu-Yeon/Naksu not to divulge pertinent information to the husband (Jang Uk). He's acting weird imo.

The argument of “if the inside is the same but the outside isn’t would you still love me?” Neither Are The Same! Even if I lost my memories I would be smart and spunk right! Maybe they should have gone with brain injury if you are changing the whole thing. If they had gotten that portrayed better the show would have be so much better. The chemistry and story seems forced. I’m super disappointed. Rather have the old kdrama have amenisa than this whole new body bit.

While I can resonate with Rowena’s points on feeling moved by Jang Uk’s loyalty to Naksu, is there anyone else who’s feeling mixed emotions about Jang Uk and Jin Bu-Yeon’s development of feelings? I mean, we, as the viewer know it’s the original two and while we secretly root for them, the fact that Jang Uk doesn’t know it’s Naksu yet, but is slowly coming out of this cold distant shell since his loss of Naksu in Part 1 is really stirring up mixed emotions for me, because it’s not like the show has been dropping hints that Jang Uk is suspecting Naksu in any of his interactions with Jin Bu-Yeon.. so my take is that he’s seeing her as an entirely separate entity and one that he may be falling for, kind of takes away from this alleged loyalty he professed to his original lover being that she would be the “only one” for him for the rest of his life. I feel like if the show included instances where he began to doubt and feel like he somehow knows her or feels moments of being reminded of Naksu, it would change that for me, but the fact he has shown such a strong position of him being upset when Jin Bu-Yeon recalled on the memory and energy of the egg, for example, his apparent acceptance that the two are different entities, and therefore somehow softening himself unknowingly towards her, kind of takes away the heartfelt/ moving emotions I have about the progression of the bond between his new wife. Anyone else feeling a bit conflicted??

Rowena Dec 18 2022 2:12 am If you haven't seen it yet, you're in for a real treat! In the coming 4th episode of Part 2, I'm hoping to see more of Jang Uk and Naksu's relationship. They've always had a strong bond and 3rd episode really shows it. We get to see Jang Uk make a huge sacrifice by waiting for Naksu even though she's no longer in his life. (there's hope)

It's heartbreaking but also so moving. Jang Uk has such loyalty to Naksu and it's really touching to watch. We get to see their relationship continue to deepen as he remains faithful and waits for her.

By the end of the 3rd episode, we get to see if Jang Uk ever finds out that Naksu is still alive, but we can only hope that he does soon. Seeing his reaction to the news would be amazing.

It's episodes like this that really stay with you. This one was particularly powerful and it was hard not to get emotional at points. I'm sure many fans were in tears by the end!

So that was a recap of the third episode of Part 2 of 'Alchemy Of Souls'. I absolutely recommend seeing this K-Drama if you haven't already. It's a great story and packed with emotion.

I think the character whom Go Yoon Jung played as is still Naksu's soul inside Jin Bu Yeon's body. She was saved from the lake by Lady Jin and her daughter before she is completely dead. The lake has made her unable to use her power again, but at the same time healed her from getting petrified and freed her from Jin Mu's spell (or may be Lady Jin has used her spell to heal her). But she lost all her memories as Naksu.

However, since the original actress, Jung So Min, does not continue her contract, they make Jin Bu Yeon changed her appearance to Naksu's (for whatever reason it is). That's why Jang Uk and everybody else doesn't recognize her as Mu Deok.

Jin Bu Yeon's soul might already be dead alongside Naksu's body that has been burnt earlier in Part 1. But since she is special, like Jang Uk, she was born due to the power of the ice stone, her soul/memories can sometimes linger in her body. Well, that's my theory.

Anyway, this drama is quite interesting, despite all pros and cons about the change in the female leads. I love the comedy too.

My- Deok Fan Dec 11 2022 10:26 am Just watched episode 2 and I have hope that Mu-Deok will come back as she is still in Naksu’s body which means the two can share the same body since they can’t live without each other to survive. So Jank-Uk will have the best of both worlds the face he fell in love with which is a high priestess Jin Bu-Yeon and the soul he fell in love with which is a Naksu.

I was about to drop this drama but now I’ll give it a go since there’s high chance the original actress will return but I hope not at the last episode as that will be unfair since we all fell in love with alchemy of the soul because of Mu-Deok played by Jung So-Min and Jung UK’s love story and chemistry. Hong sisters, please don’t disappoint us and let the fans of Mu-Doek down by not bringing her back.

Even though the story line is different but still we’ve invested 20+ hours in this drama already shipping Mu-Deok and Jang UK its difficult to accept this new body.

I’m still hoping but if not then I’ll just think of this as a new drama with most of the same actors and characters. Every time I see him with her I feel like he’s cheating on Mu-Deok so not ready to accept her yet or the way the story is continuing.

hoihoi Dec 05 2022 3:28 am It's boring at times (sorry I'm not really invested in the budding romance friendship and side couples, so I skipped a lot of scenes) but the overall theme is amazing. I always respect Hong Sisters because they always build the characters' world in a way we couldn't think of. When lots of writers just tweak some webtoon ideas, or use ordinary set up, I respect how Hong Sisters built the whole fantasy kingdom. This is their first drama after three years since Hotel Del Luna, so they must have poured their heart and soul into this. Mad Respect! Kudos to all actors, directors, but to anyone enjoying this drama, I really really recommend you all watching All Hong Sisters' dramas because they're all amazing (except maybe Big which made us all mad lol).

mia Nov 18 2022 6:14 am I really hope they also bring Jung so min. otherwise, it will not be the same as no spark of interest will be there as the story will be repetitive, bland, and predictable. in s1 both bu yeon and naksu resided in bu yeon body thus becoming mu deok. So it's fair for both actresses to return. For the main story to unfold both naksu and bu yeon are important. i will be outrageous and utterly disappointed if they cut of bu yeon. i can't believe she will not be there as she too has her part in the story. nakus and uk can be the end game but please bring so min as bu yeon. she suffered too much, it was her character who got separated from her mother due to power battles and politics so she should remain with her part and at least have closure. it is really unfair to her character and the plot.

please bring both jung so min and Ko Yoon-Jung.

The head of songrim, Park jin portrays us the best character with his strict, humor and caring nature. The second best role is ofcourse the male lead Jank uk portrays us the determination towards the spell and caring nature towards his Mu deok. I think the character of Mu deok is quite upsetting coz she does not shows much love n care towards Jang uk rather she portrays her furious nature. The drama is not at all sad except the ending. Heart touching moment - When Jang uk holds her hand in the last ep.

I was watching some behind the scene stuffs and really do not understand how these actors can one minute laughing and being themselves and next just went into their characters and look so so real. Apart from the hard work of all the actors, I feel it had a lot to do with the production team: the editors, the director, the makeup people. Just the whole lot of them. Good thing there's season 2, though I am not optimistic about the ultimate ending, but I trust that it will be reasonable as well. It is also a fantasy of all fantasies. The combination of their wardrobes, hairstyles, speech/dialogue, mannerism and maybe more, were totally irrelevant to any period of time that's known to us, me at least. Thank you, to the writers, the Hong sisters, for this wonderful story. Will watch it again before season 2.

Odethe Sep 26 2022 9:11 am Alchemy of Souls it was one of the few dramas where the main leads aren't annoying with constant miscommunication and things like that surrounding their love. The love pairings are perfect in my opinion they really did well with matching the love interest with each other. Compared to other dramas this wasn't one when I was like oh this character should have end up with this other character. This show really keeps you on edge and it never gets to print where you want to drop the show. Personally I really like how they didn't get that happy ending; the way they ended the show is an amazing morning to have people on earth and waiting impatiently for the next season. I can't wait to see how the relationship between So-yi and Seo-yul goes. And to end this paragraph the one thing I would say I'm not looking forward to as for the crown Prince to become the main antagonist and I wonder what they're going to do with that one girl likes Jang Uk. I think she looks really great with the crown Prince.

runi Sep 09 2022 12:57 am Alchemy of Souls is by far the best K-fantasy series of all time , There's a great potential for this series like harry potter etc. but I don't know , It suddenly changes on the end part, there's no consistency to the story since there's a lot of too much twists of writers. The good thing for this drama Is there's a balance , from a action , comedy , romance because of mudeok character. I got really excited on Buyeon to meet the Jin Family and Jang Gang returns , also clash of masters like master Lee vs Jang Gang but sadly Jang Gang just easily perished and Buyeon.

I have nothing against the original Naksu Ko Yoon-Jung shes also a beauty but I dont know , there's no charm/charisma like mudeok / bu yeon . we almost forgot the character of Naksu through a new Identity of Mudeok/Buyeon and wish Naksu will forever did'nt come back? The most exciting part for Alchemy of Souls is the Identity of Buyeon and Jin Family , mudeok / Buyeon character is like a Soul in this drama and the reason of It's success . Let's see if season 2 If how the writers explained why Buyeon will not come back . They end the season 1 with too many plot holes and here we go again season 2 for Naksu. I just wish that Buyeon and Jin Clan will be a highlight in Season 2 but It's only a wish:)

JSM clearly knew about it, and only signed for season 1 only because her role stops in season 1 ending. JSM is already busy with her other projects now. The original Naksu will be back in season 2. This is the first time in k-dramas with this attempt, when the writers are being bold about it. No one steals FL role, please.

Tin Sep 04 2022 7:48 pm I think Jung So Min Not Being Available for season-2 will be a major roadblock for this drama cos first thing is that they'd have to change the character for bu yeon too (unless she's going to or will be in a coma for the entirety of season 2) cos they made the mistake of still using Jung so min for that, so if she won't be appearing in season 2 it means the bu yeon storyline will be limited/cut short and then there's the Naksu part which is making everyone crazy, annoyed and sad cos Jung So Min as an actress and as a person made Naksu More Likable and a lot of people are attracted and attached to her as dat character. Now my theory is dat i think bu yeon and Naksu won't show up much in season 2 and will only appear to somewhat give the drama some sort of happy ending which will only make the drama somewhat disappointing cos everyone has/had high hopes for it. And i believe there may be a lot of plot holes (unanswered questions) if they rush the drama.

Actually it is really amazing and nice drama. Especially I have fallen love with junk uk and ul , park Jin, Lee master and crown prince. And mudeoke. I don't know what to say but it is really interesting and makes curiosity. It just wonderful series.

Despite his father worries and Park Jin, Jang Uk turn out fine, he knows power is fleeting, he did not hesitate to lose it to save everyone. He did not hesitate to give the credit to the crown prince too. I guess Naksu and Jang Uk choose love over power. Because of socery Jang Gang made his wife had an affair without her knowing just to keep the king from exposing him using alchemy of soul. Serves him right. I really need to see Jin mu fall.

It's wrong to degrade and drag down other actors and characters because of this. They are all doing their jobs. Those actors are rookies and much younger than JSM in real life.

If you want to blame someone, put your blame on Hong Sisters, the writers of this drama instead. Hong Sisters are the one who makes this decision since the start. The director, the producer, the production team and actors are only following Hong Sisters' scripts and plans.

The pair of them can get rid of the evil Jin Mu or whatever his name is and all of his unholy followers. Naksu and Yul should end up together also strengthening the Seo Clan. Producers make sure to bring back Jung So Min as she carried this KDrama and her chemistry with Uk is what made the drama.

Mudeok (JSM) can kick ass. She can carry the fight scenes elegantly since she was trained to dance. She was able to block Park Jin's arrow the second time. She got her wish. She was thinking about it when she saw the arrow on the desk while cleaning the room of Park Jin.

JangUk is always coming to Mudeok's rescue since they met. It's what he promised to Master Lee. In the end, Master Lee really saw JangUk a better man than his master Seo. JangUk is resurrected because he kept the ice stone. He reached Hwansu level now. Just like Master Lee. I want to see what Hwansu level cam do.

The relics called her the ice stone. Buyeon died in her mother's womb but resurrected with the help of Jang Gang and he used the ice stone to save her. Buyeon, Naksu, and Jang UK were born on the same day. When Naksu did the alchemy she chooses a different body. However, Mudeok or Buyeon chooses her instead. That is the reason why Naksu was trapped in Mudeok’s body. There must be a connection among the 3 characters (Naksu, Buyeon, and Jang Uk). Jang UK is aware about Naksu being trapped in Mudeok's body but he was not aware about Mudeok/Buyeon’s origin. It was constantly mention in the story the Book of Hearts. That is a love letter as well as the instructions on how to use the ice stone. Master Seo Gyeong didn't destroy all the ice stone. He left one to save the woman that she love which was the priestess of Jinyowon the ancestor of Mudeok/Buyeon. In my own analysis Jang UK will use the ice stone to save Naksu and free her from cursed that Jin Mu inflected. Mudeok or Buyeon is already powerful as a priestess and made out from the ice stone. I don't know now how the love story will continue in season two. But as they say love is soul to soul. Probably he might end up with Naksu. Hehehe. I felt bad for the Naksu actress because a lot of people wanted Jang UK to be with Mudeok. I cannot deny also that the chemistry between Mudeok and Jang Uk is superb. The writers were very clever with an open ended season 1. A cliffhanger ending. I am really curious on how they will continue the story in season 2 in correlation to season 1. Let us just wait for the future season and find out.

The ill-fated lovers met again in the body of JangUk and Mudeok.. It was bittersweet that JangUk confessed his feelings and Mudeok accepted him and revealed her feelings to JangUk before she was turned into Naksu by the potion of Shaman Choi.

Everything can happen in a make believe world. It's like pulling tricks from a magician's hat. That's the message from the writers. We might as well write our own Season 2 with Mudeok returning to satisfy our own logic. For those who want the real Naksu, they got their wish come true. It's the New AOS as stated in the trailer.

Cool Summer 2022 Sep 01 2022 6:03 am Master Heo first mentioned about Mudeok's ear when he pinched her out of anger after the poison incident. Mama Jin also realized that So-I got a different shape of ear. Are the writers going to use it to confirm the identity of Bu Yeon while they bring her to get healed by Master Heo. He already said he know how to heal a petrified soul shifter.

I am expecting Mudeok lying on the table in the entire S2. That's what happened in the other drama that I watched. I expect the same plot coz the focus is on the male lead in S2. I feel like watching a remake. I like that drama a lot. I don't mind watching a remake. 10 episodes can run fast instead of too many dragging scenes. Season 1 is a light drama that filled my summer weekend very well. Season 2 might be another fun watch with lots of mind games from JangUk and JinMu.

Cs22 Aug 31 2022 9:21 pm AOS is comical whenever LJW and JSM are on screen. But the entire cast also gave great support to the leading actor and actress. There is balance on the screen so it came out very natural with their performance. I like the Crown Prince and his eunuch. They teamed up very well especially when Mudeok was in competition. Juwol is also another character who looked after the safety of Mudeok. She is a total business woman but very caring. The scenes of JangUk with Crown Prince are very entertaining. The love triangle of Filthy Mudeok/Crown Prince/JangUk is fun to watch. It wasn't too heavy or serious. Just about right with the jealousy from the Crown Prince. ParkJin and JinMu bickering about the honey biscuits was so on point. I see why they hate each other with the back story of JinMu being vengeful. I will wait for S2 to finish before rewatching the full 30 episodes. I can't watch every weekend in December and January.

You could see part 2 main focus is only Jang Uk and his growth, his birth secret, his rights for the throne, his vigilante work, his destiny and the King's star energy, etc... It is going to have very little romance compare to part 1

The main selling point for me, the actor himself is very talented and outperforms against veterans. He is truly amazing. We witnessed Jang Uk from good-for-nothing young master to qualified and amazing mage with strong willed. Jang Uk 2.0 in part 2 preview is total upgrade and super hot. I will continue supporting AoS till the end of part 2.

It is a breath of fresh air in my decades long of watching k shows and i loved the chemistry of all characters and has now fallen in love with its main lead, Lee Jae Wook. He has a certain charm about him that makes him a stand-out from the rest, and i am certainly looking forward to what his career has in store.

I loved mudeok (Jung somin's portrayal) in season 1 and certainly her presence in the show was a strong force which compelled viewers more to tune in, but i am also rooting for go younjung's naksu this season 2. Based on the teaser itself, i bet this is not gonna be a light watch, as characters were portrayed dark in contrast to their intros in s1. Definitely looking forward to season 2. I hope this amazing cast receives an award for their impeccable performance.

Lea Aug 31 2022 1:07 pm So with my understanding back in June when i watch the 1st ep of AoS, Mudeok is the one of the center characters aside with Uk. Back then it was so clear to me that Naksu is the side character along with Buyeon. It was make me so amazed with the interesting storyline that a powerful revengeful assassin trapped in a weak body of Mudeok that so perfectly played by Jung So Min. As beginning the story of Naksu never got me interest because i've seen it many times in this same type drama. Me (and my mom and sister whom also took my recommendation and became hyping AoS together after that) got interested with the dynamics Mudeok and Uk after i/we saw the comedic line they serve. After that the stories got more interesting with the more complex it become but yet still able to provide the answers for its complexities, but until......the news about season 2 without Mudeok broke out. Back then, the decision is so out of my comprehension why would they kill the interesting character for the more predictible character, which is Naksu. But many saya the season 2 might just a prequel (although i was questioning why they choose a prequel story for season 2, it so waste of money for me). And now it's fix it's a sequel, with Naksu, whom the body already gone, burnt out, but somehow someway it save. And then a fresh and living for 20 eps Medeok is the one who dead and vanished just in 1 hour ep, so ridiculous!

I watch the spoiler for season 2, i was so thrilled but the same time i was so sad because of the destroying of Mudeok character. I decide to continue to watch the season 2 for the sake of another characters, which i really adore all characters and casts of AoS and exited seing the darker side of them as seen on spoiler. But i'm so worried about the possibility why Naksu has to dressed so different like in season 1 as a assassin. And that costume and hair do is suit with my imagination for for Buyeon character as a powerful priestess. Please don't make another ridiculous story to fits your imagination writernim and directornim.

But Alchemy of Souls (season 1) still my no 1 ultimate favorite drama for all times. Season 2....? We'll see....

CS22 Aug 31 2022 11:08 am The Choi clan started the alchemy of souls and created zombies killing in rampage. Songrim leader and Jinyowon leader joined hands and saved Daeho from becoming a barren land. However, it was also the mage from Songrim and the descendant of Jinyowon who got the alchemy of souls reactivated again.

JangUk was born to take care of this mess just like the original leader of Songrim. However, JangUk is a better version since he confessed his feelings to his lady love who happened to be Mudeok who is related to the Jin clan.

The entire plot returned to the King's Star in the form of JangUk fighting against the Choi in the form of Jin Mu. The rest of the cast is to support JangUk in eradicating the greediness of Jin Mu.

JinMu is just like JangUk who was born illegitimate and being treated with disdain by everyone in Daeho since his half-sister made him an outcast. JangUk was also being outcast by his father. However, JangUk was protected by ParkJin and Maidservant Kim so he has experienced the love and care of his foster parents. JinMu longed to be acknowledged just like JangUk. Both showed us how they grew up differently. JinMu never experiences being loved by someone while JangUk is always being protected by Park Jin and got to grew up with his friends in a wholesome environment. We saw how manipulative JangUk can be. But he has a good conscience even though he would take Naksu to be his master. We saw that when Mudeok took her life when she couldn't open the sword. JangUk was really upset and yelled at her. However, he went after her when he realized what he said to her.

JinMu vs JangUk is the final showdown in Season 2. I don't think there will a love story line. It's not necessary with 10 episodes. The fight against JinMu needs to take a lot of strategy so we need the writers to not drag the screen time.

Crown Prince is playing the bad guy to get Jin Mu's confidence. But in the end, he will be one to kill Jin Mu for killing Filthy Mudeok who is the Crown Prince's true love.

I want to LJW, JSM and SSH in another period drama. They look more interesting in costume drama rather than contemporary setting. Their chemistry is spot on.

I will be amazed if it will come up as another twist in Season 2. Mudeok asked that question to Jang Uk. She wanted to know what really happened to her father.

Season 2 is all about the back story of the cast. The writers have these angles unanswered in Season 1.

1. Naksu and her father 2. Yul and the worm in his body 3. Danggu and Choyeon - did they cancel the wedding ceremony? 4.Jang Uk and Crown Prince - I think the Crown Prince is only playing his part to get Jin Mu reveal all his evil doing by being close to him. He is helping Jang Uk to keep peace in Daeho.

5. Bu Yeon's back story is made clear. She is Mudeok in person. Her soul is in limbo. Same as Naksu now. There must be some relics in the cave to separate these souls. Mudeok will be in coma just like the other dead soul shifter in Season 2. Naksu will be recreated from a spell only the high priestess can perform. We never saw the power of Jin clan in Season 1.

Due to its unique and interesting storyline, great casts and amazing CGI especially at the early episodes, this drama could easily become the best fantasy saeguk K-drama so far IF the writers give less focus on filler stories which are not relevant to the main plot and will not do replace/unreplace main cast portrayal, especially after all viewers get so hooked for 20 eps long

No hate for Goo Yoon Jung for sure, however seeing Jang Uk acts as lover with Naksu character portrayed by cast other than Jung So Min, will feel like cheating to me

If they do that, please PD nim out there, please cast JSM and LJW in other drama which has good and happy ending they deserved. For a closure of great chemistry from both actors

The concept, storyline, plot everything is just perfect for me, i love it. The casts are all wonderful and excellent. Although might be sad that jung so min won’t be in S2, I’m still excited for go yoon jung.

I get what the writer trying to do here as the story is about soul shifting, and I believe jang uk are in love with Naksu, regardless of her appearance :) although still might find it weird since the chemistry between lee jae wook and jung so min is strong. Can’t wait to see how go yoon jung will do.

Overall I’m so in love with this drama, one that gonna stay in my heart.

If not then im thinking bu yeon went inside naksu’s body. In season 2 preview we saw naksu but she looked different from assasin naksu. This fantasy story is exactly what the ice stone is defined. It can be wind, fire or water. The basic plot is to change anything because it's just a fantasy. The story can go in different direction. I only finish the entire series to have a complete run.

She just kept her identity secret to keep herself safe in the village. She sensed Jin Mu would be looking for her. With Mudeok petrified, the soul of Naksu is in limbo. Jin Mu must have forced the power into Mudeok's body from Shaman Choi's spell in the soul ejector. Like father, like daughter... they ended into rampage. Maidservant Kim has the information but she only revealed it to the 3 leaders and not to Jang Uk. No one knew about the control that Shaman Choi had with the soul ejectors just like what happened 200 years ago.

If AOS Season 2 is going dark, it will be strictly a wuxia drama with 10 episodes just like the other similar drama.

I don't think JSM will make any cameo in S2. It will be just flashback of her most of the time. JSM has a new agency so the producer has to write-off her character.

Jan Aug 30 2022 4:57 am I will say I am disappointed at the ending, and it does remind me of what netflix did with Arthdal Chronicles, but I do think there's some hope so I'll try to view the second season optimistically. The writers have done well so far creating a series unlike any other, so I am expecting that there is a reason for the second part, and they are able to conclude everything nicely for each character especially Jung Somin as Mudeok/ Buyeon. It would make sense to have Buyeon and Naksu to be played by the two separate actresses and have Yul and Uk have their happy endings, but we can only hope that is what the writers' intentions are and Somin reprises her role. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this series when viewing it as a whole and not just the ending, and I do think it was worth it for the joyful moments I had watching it :)

Why did in season 1 the writer showed us that Master Lee's body was burn accidentally by his pupil? that's the reason he cannot get back to his body. Is it relevant to Naksu's body being burnt? Is it possible to recreate Naksu's body with the help of ice stone? From what I understand with season 1 ice stone can revive a dead person just like in Buyeon's case. Buyeon died in her mother's womb but she was revive with help of Jang Gang and ice stone. I am not against with having the original Naksu getting back in season 2. I just hope there will be no disconnection with the story in season 1. I hope that the flow of the story from season 1 and season 2 are relevant to each other. It will be a waste if the storytelling of this drama will be inconsistent.

I’ve spent 20 episodes shipping these two together that I will find it difficult to accept someone else as the female lead and the male lead reciprocating her affections.

Jung So Min is a brilliant actress in this role and she made it hers so for someone else to embody it will not do. I hope Jung So Min will remain the female lead and share the body with Bu-Yeon. I hope Netflix takes note and keeps the original female lead in her role. Or maybe Bu-Yean can shift into Naksu’s body and Naksu can remain in Bu-Yean’s body. Anyways, I will watch Season 2 with a grain of salt.

After all the hard work and tremendous performance by her - she was the Heart & Soul of Alchemy of Souls which made Global audience Internationally speechless with her passionate work. Am not trying to lower the part 2 FL Go Yoon Jung, let she be, We strongly want Jung So Min to be part of S2, she has to complete her character as Jin Bu yeon and marry Jung Uk. AOS Aug 28 2022 8:10 pm This drama started off strong...the story was really interesting and they have done such a great job with pacing...the story was moving and it kept viewers intrigued and on the edge...then after around ep.8 things started to mess up....Full of fillers and unnecessary scenes...wasted potential.....story was not moving/dragging/ and repetitive. They could have done it all in normal 16 eps.. And could have done it in just one season.... Like whats else to tell....why stretch it out. Ending was a big disappointment. It was just all over the places. The writers and producers should be thankful for the cast....esp. the main characters...their acting made up for plot holes and gave justice to the characters. Kudos to Jung So Min for bringing all 3 characters to life flawlessly and her impeccable chemistry with all the casts esp. the 3 male leads. She's the soul of Alchemy of Souls.

Why Jang Gang need to back after many years only to disappear..same with Hotel Del Luna.. and they kept highlighted Bu Yeon greatest power but ended kill her own father. We need justice for Buyeon's character..based on the preview for next season seems like mudeok's body been saved and probably JSM will be on S2..but maybe as cameo since there focus too much on Naksu@GYJ. We all know that the main story is about Naksu and JSM did her job very well makes me more interested with Buyeon's history than Naksu..I've watched most of her drama from Playful Kiss to Monthly Magazine, JSM deserved an award because she is one of underrated actress in Korea

We almost got a nice wrap conclusion at episode 19 by Jung Uk proposed to her, the ending that they both deserved. But then the director & writers decided to twist her fate again, and made her a bad person in episode 20 (last). How could she, with divine power as Bu Yeon, can easily manipulated by just bell ringing? how could Jin Mu, with so many sins, still couldn't get caught by all those powerful Songrim and Jinyowon members? It doesn't make sense! With so many damaged and hurt Mudeok made to the people she knows in the last episode, not sure how it can be restored? Or is this how the director and writers want us to say good bye to Modeok and FL (So min)? Weird! I am wondering if some of the casts questioned the storyline as well?!

Twists and playing with viewers emotions are common and acceptable for kdrama, but only until certain extent and if the logic is still maintained. Otherwise, it will just turn some of the fans to dislike and fade up with the series!

Will remember it ending when he proposes to Mudeok. FL So Min made AOS, cannot see ML with anyone else, even if Mudeok turns back to Buyeon, wierd seeing her with someone else. So angry at the ending.

What happened to So-i? How did Jang gang escape? In one episode the whole palace discovered the true identity of the Queen, the queen died, Jang gang came back and died, Mudeok gained her power in like a second and lost it, Jang Uk lost his power, Jang Uk proposed to Mudeok, Jin ho Gyeong found out So-i was an imposter.

Jang Uk breaking the barrier also did not seem like it was something as hard as they made it seem. He just flickered the drop of water and in less than a second it was done. Where was the action?? Naksu did not use her power for anything significant.

Also, I doubt jin wootak would have given up that easily. I expected a struggle trying to get the queen out of there and no, I doubt that selfish man would risk it all for his daughter.

I am so excited for the return of the real Naksu. I can't wait!

Somewhat it is safe option and stories can go both ways with JBY & N. Seems P2 will be short & more serious with less fillers.I am wondering if this the original ending or an alternate ending. It seems the latter, maybe to be democratic. Who knows maybe CP can end up to save them all as he can be objective & less emotional. It’s great that supporting actors were given room to grow. Excellent crying scene there by the sea. Till winter then it is.

I really want to see goo yun jung in S2 but the storyline is weird if there’s no explanation about buyeon’s life since she’s actually the important part of the story.

abz00 Aug 28 2022 5:44 am I just watched ep.19 and this is the best episode so far, It's quite funny to think that Jang Gang refused to own his own son Jang UK , by science his 100% the biological father of Jang Uk since they have an intercourse with Do-Hwa using his body and sperm/genes lol,, but since this is fantasy I think the author/writer think that way. This story has a very huge potential and the best korean fantasy with a great plot but I think the story on the ending part is a lil bit confusing and disappointing, specially if Jung so min will not be part of season 2. I wonder how will the writer will end the character of mudeok/ buyeon after they built her character then just to end like that in episode 20 I'm not sure If she will met her mother and sister which is the Jin family? lol. A the action scenes is limited except for ep 19. I think the reason is It's too expensive to have that level of very good effects. I just can't get over since the plot story is really great but I think the Author is confused on the ending part lol.

This means that (sadly), the storyline development on the second half of the drama is not so strong. However, unfortunately, the production team decided to prolong it into season 2 and change the female lead cast. Such a shame

Unless you are telling different story/perspective or there is emergency situation, changing the main lead after the drama airing is a big no for me. It will definitely different vibes for the viewer

Not sure what they want to tell us on the season 2. Hope that they will not drag the story just for the sake of rating or monetized benefit. Overall, the story development after ep 10 is such a wasteful from great initial ideas and casts

Come on writers, you raised our expectations for this series from the start, please don't ruin it.

There are a lot of things that need to be solved. On the other side, what I love about this drama is the viewers do not have an idea what will happen to the next episodes. It also makes the viewers think (theories, etc.). I am curious if the Season 2 will be a prequel or sequel. In season 2, there will be additional cast for Seo family, Seo Yul's uncle. And in instagram, there was an actress posted that she will be Park Danggu's eldest sister. I think they will focus more on the families in Daeho? I hope Ep. 20 is not a rush ending

The series has had its fair shares of ups and downs, with too many forgettable filler moments that add little to the storyline. The last few eps have been more exciting though, with many plot issues being resolved. There’s still a lot of talking compared to the exciting fighting and action scenes.

With regard to the controversy regarding the FL, I’m in the camp for the second season moving forward with whatever the writers have planned, even if it’s going back to the Naksu actress.

Then they gave the role to Jung So Min, good choice. But they played her. Offered her 1 season 20 episodes. Didn't tell her about season 2 until ,much later. Then they give her role to a rookie for season two. They don't tell the general public till after episode 18. However, it was leaked many weeks past and we all knew. They played everybody, especially Jung So Min. It's like, thanks for carrying our show on your back for twenty episode, now see ya around kid, get lost. Nope not watching and would rate it low if I could.

I think they can wrap up the series beautifully at episode 20. But of course with more epic closure fighting scenes with Jin Mu and soul shifter inside the Queen, and explanation for the conflicting situations, especially Naksu/Bu Yeon situation. Also is it only me or is there anyone feel the same, as I kind of dissapoint on how little fighting scenes of this series, especially from the Master Mages and main characters.

Overall, this drama is really have all the potential, e.g interesting storyline and great cast, however the improvement point is on the second half of the drama, seems that the writer loose their focus towards filler stories. Not sure if I am gonna watch the second season though, I think I will monitor the review first.

Buyeon is the most powerful priestess, she might have trapped naksu and cut her powers so she will not hurt people. Jang uk fell in love with mudeok coz she have the calm and sweet personality of buyeon at tge same time the fierceness of naksu. The 2 have great chemistry. S2 will be different but hope its still good.

I don't know why the do that but the biggest possibility is because of the reaction from the news about FL of season 2 broken out that maybe the reaction they've quite not expected.

It's my personal rants about season 2, if they gonna spend money for a spin off or prequel for Naksu story only, for me it's better they use the money for making the continuing of season 1. They have a great bunch of stories just from season 1 alone, season 1 story has the hugest potential attraction for making the bone of season 2.

But i'm not leave a comment here to bash this drama, this drama deserve their praises! instead i'm gonna say how much i Love this drama! Love all the casts! Including the villain Jin Mu ❤️ Love the sceneries! Love the costumes! And Love the story! (Although why oh why with the mess here and there). But although maybe they make a mess in someway somehow, but still this drama is a masterpiece to me. The 1st drama! Not just in K-drama alone, but in whole drama world out there, this drama is the 1st drama that i'm falling in love with. So in love that when it's ended i will have a separation anxiety and having broken heart like i have relationship with this drama as a great friend or lover.

Dear Mr. Director and Mrs. Writers, thank you for making this drama. it's a drama that able acompany me in my aphatetic and bored phase of life. I hope you'll make a great decision for the continuition season of this great season 1.

Their acting is so good, effects are awesome, the scenes are fantastic, and their chemistry with each other simply wonderful. From Episode 1, i could not stop myself from going to the next episode, each one being more exciting than the previous episode. The storyline is very simple and the comedic dialogue added to the lightness of the drama. Yet, despite the simplicity in story, the lessons learned in every dialogue is heart touching or sometimes piercing. I like most the line: SCARS LEAVE BEAUTIFUL MARKS. I also do not leave comments in most kdramas I watch. But again, this kdrama is worth praising. All the actors deserve more than a round of applause.

The chemistry between them as Jang Uk and Mu-Deok are undeniably great!. Lee Jae-Wook with his tall built, looks gorgeous in any outfits he wears in this series! Love his witty carefree attitude. But the one that capture my attention the most is Seo Yul, the two-sword man! He is so cool, smart, kind, and handsome. Minhyun plays Yul character very well! Can’t help but to love him!

I'm not gonna expect this when 1st watched it on June, i thought i'm gonna drop this drama like another dramaaaaaa

I just love 2 drama after being just a casual kdrama viewer for 15 years, liking some the hype one's like brilliant legacy, Jang Geum, what happened in Bali, lover in Paris. And LOVE!, Merry Daegu (a very not a famous K-drama) and Kingdom. And drop a bunch a popular and hype drama. And i feel kinda lucky tho, i don't love those dramas because i hate to feel "the emptiness" that K-drama that make a "butterfly in my belly" effect after finish that i've enjoyed so much just like i felt on those dramas i like and love.

After some long years from my last fav drama (Kingdom the exception because seems like zombie don't make people felt the butterfly on Belly effect ?). Then i found AoS by accident because i drop the no 1 the super popular one's on Netflix so i go to no 2 from the trending list, and voila! I'm fall in love with AoS .... Never expected i'm gonna love Hong's drama, usually not my cup of tea, except for the greatest love thanks to only for Cha Seung Won for his excellent acting for delivered the ecentric male lead.

So despite the bad reviews for this excellent drama. This drama is really a treasure for drama world. Although i really love to have some talks with the writers about what they've done with this drama pacing.

But well, Anyway... Love! Love! Love This Drama Now it's my no 1 fav all Times drama ❤️

The way everything is going hopefully they'll be season 2 because I don't know how they plan to do everything with only 2 episodes remaining. Also I wouldn't mind if mudeok ends up with the crown prince. I really like them together.

AOS Aug 21 2022 11:26 am Jung So Min's acting is incredible in the latest episode. But man...the plot got totally lost the focus in too many sup plots they created. This drama can be way more successful if they tell the story better. Getting rids of the fillers and unnecessary scenes. Wish they could keep the perfect moving pace of their first 8 eps until the end.

To those that said Jung So Min's acting is bad.... it's not her acting that bad, it's you having trouble understanding what called good acting. Her performance in AOS was stellar. She nailed 3 different characters perfectly. All the younger/rookie casts have great potentials. They all did greats job bringing the characters to life but their level is still far behind So Min and the other veteran casts. Their acting was great for less-experienced actors but it still lacks depths and layers of expression.

For sure Songrim will hunt her down as she is the famous assasin. I just really hope that Naksu or Cho Yeong her original name has some connection with Jin Bu Yeon or Jang Uk that will make her character very important in Part 2 because base on all the episodes that aired, i feel like Jin Bu Yeon is the reincarnation of Jin Seol Ran while Jang Uk is the nxt Seo Gang but as for the original Naksu i wonder what will be her purpose in Part 2 if she is the female lead.

It's obvious what will happen in part 2, part 2 is the continuation of part 1 not prequel or whatever. The production team already confirmed that they cannot fit everything in part 1 so they need to make part 2. Before the start of production of part 1, the writers already in mind that they they will change the female lead in part 2 because that's how they can make naksu go back to her orginal body, they cannot do that in part 1 since jung so min is the female lead in part 1 but in part 2 they can. Usually in kdrama if there is a part 2 usually the leads changed also like yumi cells and sky castle. In my opinion they will let naksu go back to her original body in part 2 and it will be played by go yoon jung. As for Mu deok, hello she is jin bu yeon how can people tell that she will be replace, she will just go back to her original body. She will be Jin Bu Yeon so what Im saying is both actress Go Yoon Jung and Jung So Min will be in part 2 as for the who will be the female lead, they will both be the female lead. They are both strong if they are in their own body. As for the love line for sure many doesnt want to see Jang Wook with the real naksu played by Go Yoon Jung as they already invest their time in watching Jung So Min as Mudeok/Naksu and Jang Uk so here is my theory i think at the end of this series in part 2 i think the original Naksu will die played by Go Yoon Jung then Jang Uk will get his happy ending with Jung So Min but that will be Jin Bu Yeon at least at the end of this series they are the end game. Lee Jae Wook and Jung So Min the original male lead and female lead. But still inside me still hoping the original Naksu wont be dead. As for Park Dang Gu and Jin Cho Yeon im pretty sure they will have their happy ending cos Jin Bu Yeon will be back played by Jung So Min and she will lead Jinyowon while Park Jin and Maidservant Kim will end up together and im sure they will have a son that will lead Songrim. This is just my opinion, this is just my theory base on the episodes already aired.

I'm not a fan with Hong's drama although i like the greatest love (love Cha Seong woo ajussi because of that) but that's it, just as far as liking....but this drama, Love It to the bone! I love the customes (not Mudeok costume tho), i love the set, i love the story and i really Love the casts! But i hope they can improve their fighting scenes, sometimes i felt not so believable. Next, my greatest wish to this drama, is having another seasons, not just as 2 as they'd plan and also seing Jung So Min as Buyeon. I prefer seing Jung So Min as Buyeon than Naksu tbh, Buyeon such a clever mastermind, her character deserve more stories. And i don't mind if she as Buyeon doesn't end with Uk (because clearly Uk love Naksu) although i'm prefer they become a couple, imagine what a power couple they'll become....just wishing tho....

But in my opinion, I found so many similiarities of the characters with anime Naruto. Anybody here watched naruto? The character of Naruto have so many resemblance with jang uk, his abandoned story, his tough never give up personalities, etc. Also the character of seo yul that is cool, handsome, smart and has strong power. Dont forget the character of master lee who secretly teach jang uk reminds me of jiraiya, who also teach naruto a lot of things that made his power stronger. Jang Gang is also a gwanju, just the same like naruto's father is a hokage. And jang uk and naruto have the same dream to become gwanju/hokage like their father despite their lack of power in the first part of the story. Watching this drama feels like watching the combination of harry potter and naruto, and I love it!

Jinyowon's magical door reminds me of how Hagrid opened the brick door and took Harry to Hogwart for the first time.

Jinyowon's magic mirror also reminds me when Harry saw his father and mother through the mirror..

it's different, but I really really like these two fantasy dramas..

The CGI is good and the storyline pacing is fast. The characters are introduced well and makes you fall in love with them instantly. Jung Somin and Lee Jaewook have good chemistry and both are excellent actors. The show is so funny and interesting. I think people should give this a chance. It truly is a gem!

I first started to watch this for JSM, but LJW's Jang Uk completely stole my heart and he is one of the best young actors in k-dramas these days. Naksu was like a 7-10 year old child 20 years ago when the stone pieces that recorded Jang Uk's birth night were hidden. Your theory that the three of them were born with the same king star would make sense if the king star appeared periodically every year, but I doubt that.

I would like to drop my theory. I'm not sure if this make sense to all of you.

First: Jang Uk, Jin Bu-yeon and Naksu were born with a King's star (reason of their intertwined relationship) and also the reason why Jin Mu uses Naksu in his scheme and turns her father into a soul shifter and later on he uses Naksu as an Assassin. Jin Mu on the other hand uses Bu-yeon to get the ice stone into his and Shaman Choi's (fake queen) possession and is very inclined to kill Uk (because Uk is a threat to him rather than a useful tool).

Second: Bu-yeon/Mudeok did not suck the soul of Naksu but rather their soul merged into one body because they were born with the King's star. I think Bu-yeon is way more powerful than Naksu because she has a great energy to control the ice stone and to suppress Naksu's power.

Third: It was Bu-yeon's feelings towards Uk, since their relationship is very complicated though they openly confessed with each other but still has a mess up love story. (As I mentioned there are two souls in one body I think Naksu's soul does not feel the same with Bu-yeon and still confuse because of the mix up feelings towards Uk. (I'm still rooting for Naksu and Yul)

Lastly: I think it's either Uk, Bu-yeon and Naksu will bring Chaos/Destruction to Daeho or the three of them will save their country and become a hero. Lol

I'm curious about how will the director, writers and the team will end the story. Hoping that the ending is not happy but rather an ending that will give us answers and will relate to the sequel.

JANE Aug 09 2022 2:20 am Absolutely in love with this drama. The actors are doing an incredible job playing as their characters, helping us immerse with the storyline better. I fell in love with Lee Jaewook after watching this drama and have started watching his other works while waiting for new episodes. He is still very young so i'm sure his future is bright! Looking forward to more of his works. The story is very complicated which could make it hard for some to follow if they aren't giving much attention to the tiny details. The set design and CGI is also fantastic. I am fond of slowburn so if you are expecting lovey dovey scenes of the main couple, this may not be for you. The romance is not the main focus of the storyline. However, they do have amazing chemistry so it's such a waste the writers are not making full use of this potential. I understand this has 30 episodes all in all so they could show more of that in the later episodes. All in all, I am enjoying this drama very much. It is my happiness every week. I'm gonna rewatch this while waiting. Alchemy of souls, fighting!

I feel like they are just making it longer even if the answers can easily obtain. They are making the characters look incapable these past few episodes. It's getting frustrating that many things are still unresolved and still a mystery when we only have 4 episodes. I feel like the writers will rush the storyline in the end or leave the viewers cliff-hanging because there are still many unresolved cases, and I don't think they will reveal it all in the four left episodes we have. And it makes sense that they are having season 2 which I think is not necessary if they did not decide to replace on focusing on the main story than adding scenes that are repetitive and not necessary anymore. After watching the recent episodes, I feel like they are just buying some time. We are already in the 16th episode and the story barely made progress. Feels like the scenes and story is taking too long to make progress (iykwim). Then they just announced that they are gonna have a mini hiatus to improve the remaining episodes which makes it more frustrating because of the fact that they are trying to change some parts, meaning, they are not sure how to end the series well. Even the production is still unsure about it. This really feels like they will rush it in the end. The "improvement" thing is funny already because they should've talked and discussed it beforehand rather than delaying releasing the remaining episodes. Doesn't it that the plot should be finalized before the date of its release? Well, It is still a great drama. I just thought that this would be the best fantasy drama I have watched. But it is a little bit disappointing that this drama had a lot of potential in every way but they decided to mislead the viewers and buy some time for their so-called "Improvement" that should have been done beforehand in the first place. I guess I expected too much from watching the first half episodes. I just really hope they won't leave us in question. Because I am 80% sure that if they are not gonna reveal everything in the remaining 4 episodes and will make season 2 just for it, It will be more draggy. Because I don't think there are still lots of things to be shown in season 2 when all we need right now is evidence. We already have the answers to the unsolved cases but the characters are only looking for evidence (and they are obviously taking a lot of time and soooo long to get it which I think should not be taking this long) They are mages, powerful but they can't investigate properly. That is one of the frustrating parts. It seems easy to obtain evidence but they are just taking so long. Whenever they try to show evidence, they always get interrupted and it's getting annoying. Because it's just repetitive. We made it to the 16th episode with small progress. Very disappointing. I thought they will nor focus more on the main plot from these recent episodes but they did not. They added unnecessary and very slow scenes again. Will still watch it for the sake of finishing the series and for the great actors/actresses. The writers should have done it better since the cast are portraying their characters very well yet they are making them look incapable. tsk tsk.

It answered why Naksu's cannot use her strength and power because she is inside the priestess body (Buyeon/Mudeok). It answered the question about if Naksu can returned to her burned body. It was explained in the scene where Master Heo burned his master's body (Master Lee) thinking that he is dead. I am still waiting for Naksu's narrative (origin) and why her entire family was killed. I am looking forward for the next episode but i'm kind a little anxious to watch it because of the preview. I will still watch it even it will take a bit longer.

Alchemist til the end Aug 07 2022 2:56 pm We're now coming to the last four episodes of this series. I am seriously gonna miss this once it ends. Though the latest episodes did not unwrap much of the plot, it was still a fun watch. I was lol-ing on Jang Uk and Crown prince Go won's moments, Danggu and Cho yeon's unprecedented living together, the trio (Danggu, Jang uk and Yul) reminiscing about the past and even master lee and Jang uk's dialogue after the fight scene. *spoiler* Poor master Lee lost his body because of Healer Heo's clumsy mistake. Lol don't even make me mention about maidservant kim and Park jin, i love everything about them. I was waiting for the action and Mudeok's development as naksu but i believe we're bound to get to that on these remaining episodes which will lead us and also serve as the groundwork for upcoming season 2. Admittingly i was dismayed by the sudden slow pacing of the show on the mid-part but in alchemy, patience is virtue lol.

Alchemists, we are now getting to the exciting part!! *insert party poppers*

Annie Aug 07 2022 11:40 am Just completed watching ep 16, but I did feel that there hasn't been any significant changes in Janguk and Mudeok's relationship after their open confession. I want them to stop keeping things vague and be clear about their feelings. Did feel like they added a few fillers here and there. Cho yeon and Dangu finally got more screentime but again it became a lil messy. The good thing is we got to learn few more details about Seo yul, the Queen and Cho yeon's dad. Also Jang Uk's father is finally back, so I'm looking forward to what his presence will add to the story. It's good that they are not showing more of the one sided love tale because it was getting depressive. Also must say that the leader of Songrim is an idiot who still doesn't know that Maidservant Kim likes him and not Master Lee. The new character so-i had a significant presence and now she knows of Mudeok's identity. Idk but 2 weeks for ep 17 feels like years, especially when after seeing the preview where Mudeok finally draws the sword but the fact that one on them may die due to this is giving me chills and also the fact that the petrified body of the cunning mage is back to kill Yul. I think this is the point where things will change completely..I just can't wait!!

His acting was cool, especially when he told the king his surprise. Everything was unpredictable, excpet if you saw the previews. Now I understand how they needed that break. It's a rare thing in dramas nowadays. and I had funny moment from this drama. From early episodes, I thought Seo Yul actor was Cha Eun Woo but weirdly I didn't feel any awkward moments in the acting while I usually feel from his acting in all his dramas. Then, I searched on wiki and found out that the actor is Hwang Minhyun lol. I'm ashamed of myself for not being able to recognized him. Even though I knew him since Orange Caramel past MV (Shanghai Romance).

(And Maidservant Kim used to like Jang Gang long ago, but now has unstated feelings for Park Jin.) The two of them have defacto raised UK because his mother died in childbirth and his "father" Jang Gang left and no one has seen him since. He has not been on screen outside of flashbacks.

Jang Gang was the Gwanju who dabbled in sorcery and learned how to swap souls. He made the mistake of letting the king know. The king was pretty sick but wanted an heir, so he forced Jang Gang to swap souls for a week. It is the king's soul in Jang Gang's body who is the father of Jang UK, our hero. UK has endured rumors that Jang Gang is not his real dad and that his mother had an affair, but he does not know that he was born under the king's star, nor that he was fathered by the king's soul. Jang Gang sealed off Uk's magic so prevent problems (there is now a current king and crown prince, he doesn't want UK to be in danger). But UK, not knowing any of this, thinks dad is just mean. Meanwhile, Park Jin has worked out most of this, but not told UK the full truth.

The Assistant Gwanju is Jin Mu, who badly wants to be Gwanju but has no chance because Jang Kang and Jang Uk exist. Gwanju of Cheonbugwan is the hierarchical position of Jang Family. Therefore, Jang Uk is the future Gwanju of Cheonbugwan, but still needs to approve his rightful mage qualities and skills. Jang Uk always dreams of becoming Gwanju.

This fact speaks volume on how well-written it is. Add on to that the actors' spectacular performance and heart-melting chemistry. Everything blends so perfectly here, watching this show gives me both peace and laughter at the same time. I just hope the production team and casts take home awards for this masterpiece.

Remember that. Not everything in this drama is always black and white. Everyone has their own motives and interest regardless of whether you think it's right or wrong.

As much as I love Mudeok, if original Naksu returns to her body, Naksu actress really doesn't need to replicate the accent or copy Mudeok's behavior since she doesn't need to pretend to be someone else anymore. She will be back to her original self, her original aura but with additional waivering of feelings towards Uk.

Some viewers are really something. Haha

Jang Uk and Cho Yeong(Naksu) are destined to be together because of their parents relationship to each other. They will eventually grow up and marry each other. However, everything has been messed up when Do Hwa conceived a child out of Alchemy Of Souls. And Cho Chung became a soul shifter.

Esp from Hong's sister, i tried to start watch their dramas before and i drop them in ep 2 after i give them a change in 2 eps.... But! AoS got me from the 1st min till now, now it's the only Korean drama that i watch and waiting for.

I love it from A to Z, yeah sometimes their acting kinda make me a huh moments? But tbh almost Korean drama is having a huh acts or scenes, even the popular one's! Although AoS might not extraordinary in acting and direction but as a story in my opinion is one of the best drama out there! It almost don't have a not important scenes, Most of the scenes is great in their flow scene to scene and most important is AoS able to provide the answer of the question that often created when drama goes more and more deep and complex. Tbh, i'm quite shock that this drama doesn't got more love and hype that they deserve. Maybe, i think, it's because the story about a bunch of male over 1 girl is so dated right now? Or the stiffness of the way they acts is like watching some historic kdrama from 10 years ago (at least that's the way i feel)

Also, compare all the character's "selfishness" to history and survivalism and status/expectations...selfishness can't be weighed the same as it is today (my personal opinion may differ from yours, so whatever if you disagree, but i think many of the kdrama population are too sensitive to the often over-the-top emotions of the characters so maybe they are expecting more lovey dovey less hardships, I dont know. I did however also consider what was going through Mudeok's mind when she just took over a blind stranger, but was too invested in the rest of the story to care and figured more to that story would reveal itself (and it is). I also don't think Uk is anymore selfish than he should be, if he's surrounded by all these people in his own community that held him down for reasons they won't even tell him. I'd be a little selfish if I saw everyone else succeeding over me for my while life

Don't forget this is a fantasy drama. it could be that what was burned was the body of a fake Naksu. while the real body at some place. and for those who don't like the Mudeok talking, it is the dialect of a village. As is known, Mudeok comes from Sari Village. couse this drama is too much mystery from a to z. and in every new episode there is always a mystery that is revealed. this drama is very good, The writer is Miss Hong sisters. they are very detailed, every scene no matter how small it will be connected. maybe you need to watch this drama over and over again to understand the storyline. here I really like Jang Uk. besides the other actors are also all very talented. and there is JSM (Jung Somin) who has been acting since playful kiss.

I personally really love this drama and watch it over and over again without getting bored I just wish s1 happy ending Jang Uk and Mudeok. and s2 Jung So Min can join again. because already loves Jang Uk and mudeok chemistry. would be very strange if replaced.

That scenario where Cha beom was shouting at her assuming it was seoyul that saw that he wouldn't have said anything he would just act all meek like he always does and mudeok would be quiet too, but the prince asked her to say what she wants and jang uk would have wanted to start a fight. She always herself with the crown prince even though she's just trying to help jang uk , she's always herself with jang uk and can say anything to him.

F Jul 30 2022 5:39 am @Yeng it seems you are not familiar with different korean dialects or satoori , while the story is fictional and so is the kingdom of daeho, the screenwriters and director made and use an existing satoori in modern korea to point out the fictional village where mudeok "belongs", she uses it with everyone except for Jang Uk because she can only use Naksu's dialect with Jang Uk. It may change in the coming episodes as they found out her real "persona".

Mu-deok is dead already on Jin belly for 13 months and Jin is desperate for her daughter to live. Mu-Deok is also born by the use of sorcery, shifted soul, and was born together with the King Star born Jang UK with the help of Jang Gang. The relation of Naksu with Mu-deok is also connected that is why when Naksu used Alchemy of Soul, instead of the random lady that she wanted to be shifted, she was been shifted with Mu-deok bodies. No wonder why Mu-deok can enter Jinyowon because she is indeed the missing Daughter of Jin. Wow.. what a great story.

I understand she is a former assassin who is now living in a mere maid's body. I can't even hate her because my favorite actress Jung So Min is now playing her. So far Uk is the standout character so far, with the rookie young actor's amazing acting performance.

But ep 9 & 10 weren't fillers since we knew how bu yeon disappeared 10 years ago, how it is to start learning in songrim, and how the queen & jin mu plotting something. Ep 1-8 were so packed and quite fast paced i think it's normal to let things cool down for a little bit.

Also naksu/mudeok already trained him from early episode until he got into songrim. It was all bcs mudeok/naksu. He got the torrent of energy bcs naksu poisoned him. She teached him tansu. He got a duel with the crown prince bcs naksu provoked jinmu and the result of this duel is him accepted into songrim.

Anyway take a note that this is a romance fantasy, everyone. Read the genre before so you won't complain about it.

I'm still curious, when Naksu's soul entered Mu-deok's body, where did Mu-deok's soul go? I really appreciate Jung So Min for her roles as Mu-deok and Naksu. However, I also hope that the real Naksu can play again to be paired with Seo Yul.

The storyline of this drama is very interesting and I can't predict how the conflict will end. Both the fantasy and romance stories in the drama are fun. the last time I saw a drama with multiple partners namely 'The Moon That Embraces the Sun' and 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo', those two dramas were the best in composing romance stories for their characters. Drama with couples that are unforgettable and imprint every time they are remembered.

If I remember it correctly Naksu choose a different person to whom she want to switch soul but her soul gravitate towards Mudeok and they change souls. It looks like Mudeok chooses Naksu's soul to enter to her body. I am curious about the origin of Naksu and the Queen. The queen holds the ice stone. Why they need to burn Naksu's body? Jin Mu could have thrown it into the river where they threw all dead bodies due to soul shiftings. The story is not yet connected. I am waiting excitedly for the next episodes. I hope mu questions will be answered.

In my opinion we all need to brace ourselves for a crazy twist in the story cos if Ko Yoon Jung is replacing Jung so min it most likely means that the original Naksu will be back which seems impossible cos her body was burned in front of everyone. Then there's the part where Naksu possessed mu deok who is bu yeon which means there will be something done about that too, cos there can't be a happy ending either way unless bu yeon was already dead to begin with and was only being kept alive by the power of the ice stone cos Jin mu kept saying that bu yeon was dead... I Just Hope I (viewers) won't be too disappointed with the change cos Jung So Min's acting is superb (incomparable) and she's the only reason why i was interested in this drama to begin with, and then comes the issue with the accent she used in the drama! will ko Yoon Jung be able to keep up with that? cos my guess is that she's coming back as Naksu and Jung So Min's acting will be used as a reference in order for the character to align with the initial portrayal of the character Mu Deok. Cos Even though she's using Mu deok's body, everything she does is as Naksu which makes Mu deok Naksu

In the first few episodes Jang Uk was referred to as 'dazzling as Winter snow' and in ep 10 in the book of heart, master seo gyeong portrayed the blind girl as 'orchid that blossom in white snow'.

If it is the case then I guess they meant to sign that with BuYeon and Jang Uk belong with each other. Park Jin said that the first leader of Jinyowon was the one helping Master Seo Gyeong, similar to how Mudeok help Jang Uk. But I could be wrong tho...

F Jul 18 2022 3:47 am I think Jang Uk loves Mudeok as Mudeok, as her maidservant. When he speaks about Naksu or to Naksu he calls her his master. He always have different message for both.

As for Naksu, she is in control of Mudeok's mind coz she remembers Yul, but does not remember So-yi (her friend when she was blind). And Buyeon is in control of Mudeok's heart, it was Buyeon who saved Jang Uk. Buyeon has divine powers and Uk has the King's Star, they are the future of Daeho.

As for Jung So Min not reprising her role as "Mudeok" the maidservant, I think it's because she will now portray Buyeon, the mage with divine powers, the ice stone. The producers will not confirm her appearance in s2 because it would be a major spoiler.

So when they said JSM's out for season 2, I think there will be a new story with new characters for S2. Like what we were requesting for Hotel de Luna. Possibly a prequel. Seo Gyeong & the blind Jin girl's story seems interesting or it may be sequel with a new plot set in the future, but still revolving around the "Alchemy of Souls".

It's better stop now which may prevent getting hurt in last episode. Drama AOS without So min is just like body without soul. So I don't want to see drama who kill So min at the end. They don't care about viewers expectations over So min. This drama only try to make money ?. They 1st show So min to increase their rating and once they got the they try to through her out. Cheating bast**ds. These cheaters hurt our feelings and I'm such part2 will be big flop.

Releasing the information just seems badly thought out cause many people watched for her and have become attached to her chemistry with the other leads.

Remember season 2 is a flashback story of Naksu, so it means Jung So-Min will play as the blind girl and we know theres a back story of blind character before first season.

You never know Jung So-Min might play villain role in season 2. The reason why theyre saying shes out is because they dont want to spoil the real plot. Im pretty sure plot is going to be around Naksu and the blind girl. 07/2022

I came here after hearing that part 2 will have a change with female cast and I am very sad but I still wish the best for this drama.

I'm not too fond of this fact in kdrama that they often represent the male lead as godly handsome guys but present the female lead as mediocre even though in real life they are actually really pretty girls.

Just like in this drama they portrayed all the male actors good looking, also naksu as a pretty girl but mu deok average looking. i mean why?!

The writers are very creative and good to keep the story not only entertaining but it also made their watchers excited and curious. Thats a good story for me! The actors we very commendable also.

I'm especially convinced after seeing the soul-switching scene with Mu-Deok and Jang Uk.

"What a weird production team!" My thought when i was read they kick out their ownself chosed FM after the 1st reading.a year ago. Like how?! In at talks or audition phase, it's nothing new, but after the 1st reading?? It's weird to me. And because i'm not following further more, so...surprise surprise! that's the production team a drama that i LOVE after for long years now

Anyway, I'm enjoying so much this drama, so i'm thankful the production teams for making the characters live perfectly because they able to choose the perfect casts for each characters. Very recommended drama, you (might) in love with this drama to the point you (might) endure the cheesy, cringy, n typical the kdrama lines and scenes.

Idk there's something off with the plot, or acting maybe or the chemistry even after the so much hype. I also kinda have a feeling that the writer is gonna revolve the story in the second leads soon too leading to season 2. Or maybe I'm already too worn out for this kind of childish yet very complicated story. Nevertheless I enjoy the 8 episodes but I don't think I can continue further. Rinana Jul 11 2022 7:59 pm After read comments everywhere about theories and saw eps 8 got some conclusions in my opinion..i guess real mu deokpreviously is one of the greatest mage in partner with seo gyeong (songrim founder),who probably perform the ritual, and remember in eps 2 or 3 when danggu ask heo yeom the mage who already reach hwansu beside seo gyeong who can change the material, maybe she is not old as like lee rim..maybe she is locked and break the ice stone inside her body, but as consequence, she lost her sight and her body became weak...when naksu soul shifted, her soul didnt move to naksu body, instead she keeps inside her own body..one body with two soul..the body iyself contained of ice stone, explaining why naksu didnt go berserk.. and that real mudepk probably came from jin family, but she is not bu yeon...what i think is bu yeon soul probably is the real naksu itself...what i really curious is if naksu father the soul shifter, than is cho sunh the real cho sung? My crazy imagination, chosung soul who go berserk is mrs jin husband...?

I see a lot of people talking about Uk's soul being taken but that didn't happen. It's amazing how the chemistry between so balanced I feel fine with whomever Mu Doek, I think that's actress So Mins ability! It's not just about magic, in this movie there is romance, friendship, kinship that melts into one drugged me.. Wkwk

btw, Mudeok is most likely Bu Jin's first child, maybe he was dumped by Mujin's uncle so Mujin's uncle was exiled from Jin's family. (But the fact that little naksu was raised by mujin is also interesting, naksu also has the potential to be Bu jin's child)

My hope for the ending of this film is that mudeok's soul doesn't rebel and take over the hero's body like the drama mR.queen.. Hopefully mudeok's body and naksu's soul can get along together..

But this also does mean that Mudeoki /Buyeon should have achieved Hwansu too. They should be equal to be able to coexist in one body. And if she achieved Hwansu too then does it mean that one of them also has the King's star??? There can't be just one person born in that single day like in real astrograms 2 people born same day diff hour will have the same sun and most of the planets the same just in different houses. So i would say either Naksu or Mudeoki/Boeyon has a very similar chart to wook, including the King Star just different degrees. Which meant the great soul the Master felt was Boyeon meant to be a Queen. I think Choyeon did something to Buyeon and jin mu prob influenced her. Choyeon is very shady.

The spirit killed the princess at birth + took control of her body and lost her eyes as a price. That's also why Naksu's magic chose her, since she's like an empty vessel? Uk commented how the blue in her eyes are disappearing, so maybe the evil spirit is losing control and Naksu is obtaining the body fully. 2) Real MD and Naksu are the same person. The four families killed Naksu's father while they were searching for the eldest daughter of the Jin family. I don't think the father was a bad guy tho. Maybe he found her somewhere and just took her in? While training with the white-haired dude (idk his name lol) he made her perform soul shifting bc her body was too weak. So, she got Naksu's body and she's actually back to her original body now. Idk LOL

The components for this series were will prepared. I just hope the ending will not be the same or somehow similar to Goblin. I will wait with full of anticipation until the end. The characters and writers catches my eyes first then the story and cinematography catches my heart.

Possibly an energy-soul-sucking spree. She is a soul shifter with a limited life span. I just hope no one dies in this. Please dont give me Scarlet heart feels, Alchemy of souls.

I last watched "The King: Eternal Monarch." That was fun and delicious.

Alchemy of Souls had me binge watching 3 episodes last night. I love these period K-dramas, especially shows that include any element of traveling through portals, and/or magic. Love those combos! And all the actors are great.

She must've seen something she shouldn't have and Naksu's parents were witnesses to the morder probably... Naksu works for an organization anti mages but which still uses magic as this is best weapon. So magic trying to extinguish and replace other magic, just like alchemy of soul.

When Maidservant Kim tended to Heo Yeom's wound caused by Wook and how they joked that they should be Wook's parents really, but they too uglee and Wook is too Handsome and a very smart cookie. Makes you realize they spent their life as shadow parents and pining on wrong people. And they aren't uglee actually. Makes one wonder how life goes so quick but they have not lived for themselves. Really tearjerker. My hearteuuu... my hearteuuu again when Wookie begged Naksu to say something heartwarming ? but why does Danggu remind me of V's character in Hwarang?? That worries me. Normally Choyeon would be the one you'd see the flags in but it's Danggu...l dont have a good feeling about this. He is very loving, funny naughty and devoted think he could lay his life for Wook if situation asked. And i think Seo Yul has a few secrets too, not only Mu-deok... By the way I wonder, are Naksu and MuDeok related in a way??

The terms like magic, core, breathing technique and power levels are most common and intriguing, but they tried to make romance as the main focus, second comedy and lastly action. In a way, they did right as only romance is appealing for broader viewer targets with a touch of comedy as a niche, but it badly ruins the action-fantasy potential. Just like most dramas, they truly put a lot of budget in the first 2 episodes as there are a lot of CGI which looks decent actually, but slightly weird action scenes(gotta save budget instead of hiring proper action scene coach). But so far everything is very enjoyable overall; the casting, acting, scenes, even the OST is on point. I knew that the story would be kinda dragging since this drama was planned to be 20 eps, so I'm not complaining much. Give a try for this drama, should be at least 8/10.

The first 2 eps was 8/10 and had my attention, but eps 3 & 4 was draging with the same thing happening where the main cast being punished for his wrong doing. I dont know why they have to add comic on a serious scene like when Jang Uk are fighting the crown prince where 3 of them where apologizing for drinking mud water. Another scene is where Park Jin (the master) got his wound treated by Kim Do Jo (jang uk’s serviant), its serious scene where it can be done without comic.

Im a fan of romcom but sometime less is more, i will still watch eps 5 & 6 to decide if i will continue to watch this drama.

Its my own opinion, so some may feel different regarding this drama.

Like its not linked with the king who died but the position of king. And no whether it's old times or new biologically he will be mage jangs son as his body impregnated the wife, that's also the reason jang gong tried to protect jang uk, the king just wanted to have fun with do hwa, last fun before he dies.

So an in-story worldbuilding question....When the King was in the Mage body, could he do magic, due to the fact that he was in the Mage body? The king used Jang Gang body during the exchange of souls to impregnate his wife Do-Hwa, but since was Jang Gang’s body and sperm that was used, how can Jang Uk be the king’s son? Also, if Jang Gang wanted to protect Jang UK, supposedly the reason why he locked his magic, why let people know that he is not his son? All he had to do to keep Jang Uk safe was to raise/accept him as his son.

I could be wrong and the show might bring actual mu deok back. Secondly, i find it rather funny that jang uk is considered kings son just because kngs soul was in senior jang's body because at the end of day biologically it's jang and his sperm impregnating the wife ,just souls are different. So to me jang uk is still biologically jang gang's son

Also, does this mean the crown prince and Jang Uk is related ? Meaning Jang uk is the older step brother (by soul) of the crown prince since the king conceived him knowing he does not have any heir, then come the crown prince in current timeline. Or is this different king ?

Kinda confuse since the king main purpose to conceive Jang Uk is to get his own heir. But how can the king still keep Jang Uk hidden all this while and proceed with his plan?

All the casts are doing their parts so well.... Jung So Min's face expressions/ reactions are always priceless. I know that she's some sort of queen of chemistry...but darn... she managed to have 2 ships sailing in parallel. Minhyoen is surprisingly good for idol turn actor. To be honest, when the teaser was firstly released.... I was skeptical about him not being to act...(my apology to his fans) but darn...he's good. Now I'm looking for his scenes.

Kudos to Hwanhwon team. Cannot wait for ep.4.

For those who's still hesitating whether to watch this one.... I highly recommend you to give it a chance.

This drama has a plot with isekai/reincarnation where u remember ur past life even after entering another body, but the difference is that u can pick whose body u want to enter and also it's forbidden in this fantasy world. I've read so many isekai manhwas and it's so weird that there's so little kdramas out there that is like this (so far dramas that i remember has done this and is popular are scarlet heart and tale of the nine-tailed). Even so, it is also very rare for kdramas to fully write a whole different fantasy country like the manhwas ive read that doesnt exist in history and make a whole different world like this. And I really like these so much! I have very big expectations for this drama.

As near as I can tell, there was a young blind woman named Mu-Deok who was murdered in the first few minutes by an assassin's spell so the assassin, Naksu, could take her body. The series doesn't seem to give a damn about this poor woman. Naksu is the romantic lead and we are supposed to be rooting for her.

And did I get this right, Jang Gang was the Gwanju of Cheonbugwan and he disappeared so that makes Jin Mu a sub since he is the Assistant Gwanju, and Jin Mu is also also the Danju, so he tasked Naksu to kill Park Jin in order to achieve his plan on becoming the Gwanju of Cheonbugwan

Alchemy of Souls Jun 20 2022 10:33 am This drama is lit..... it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Never thought I would like Hong sisters' drama. Their story- telling always feel overdone for my taste.. Having those A-lists in their previous works trying to make them look extraordinary sometimes did not work. But this one seems to flow for the first 2 episodes. This director indeed knows how to tell stories. Watching this for Jung So Min and I enjoyed it so much. Glad that she took on the role regardless of all the chaos... I can't imagine anyone who would look cute and beautiful and can really act with the eyes like her. She nailed the role of Naksoo in Mudeok body so well... Managed to say all those savage line while looking so adorable... Just like what the director said....no one else other than So Min has this charm.

All the young actors are doing great job too. Jang Wook and So Min have great chemistry and they really deliver their characters..... The ending scene of ep.2 was beautifully done....I already feel for them.

Cannot wait to watch the rest to see how will the story unfold.

Sominah J Jun 20 2022 9:21 am Awesome 2 episodes that makes me crave for to binge entire season in one go, each of technicians, writers, director, dop and all and all the actors have done excellent job, I was anticipating this ever since the rumour comes out of Jung So Min is being considered for replacement, i always have faith her her ability to perform, whether the drama succeeded or not she has chosen script carefully and that's why each of her drama is so good (I don't care if they don't get good ratings- as those dramas are really good not only because of JSM, I really liked them as a viewer ) so I trust her. And my faith turned out to be right, these 2 episodes are already promising a roller coaster ride so grip on everyone, don't watch it with prejudice because of some criticism and enjoy the good story telling, some good visuals, some good chemistries and some good performances with awesome JSM ❤️

And the cast are all great, as you know chinese wuxia dramas most of them looks so fake, and kdrama look so good. So i really wanted to see, does making a wuxia themed drama is that hard so it made cdrama so bad, or if the kor ver can nailed it well, then cdrama... they're just bad...

I also think he is a great actor and I really love his acting... but IMO he doesn't have enough charisma to carry the main lead role.... nothing against his ability to act tho... He suits more for main role in ensemble cast. Jung So Min has this sincere and lovable vibes...she has great chemistry with all her male leads....and I can already see that So Min and Jae Wook's chemistry will work.
