i love this drama very well made, the plot is strong and has all sort of values and it shows friendship , comradeship, loyalty, faith and love in such an amazing way
the whole cast is amazing and surely the leading man Kimura Takuya sama is putting in all his charm his passion and strong presence makes the drama even better, the ladies role though quit small in time yet has its own force in moving events, the dogs are great and surely the cinematography did a splendid job in capturing those lovely dogs eyes and motion....on the over all i love this drama and i do believe it is stronger the eight below and more emotional the only thing that i can't figure out is why the not so high ratings ;(
still Nankyoku Tairiku Gabare ^_^

This show is better than Eight Below. It has powerful actors and actresses, the dogs are amazing and feel more realistic. I like this definitely better than America's (even if it is my country) attempt at it. Nankyoku Tairiku keep up the awesomeness!
Also Eight Below doesn't have Yusuke Yamamoto so...there!

Nankyoku Monogatari (1983), Eight Below (2006), and also Nankyoku Tairiku (2011) are based on true story about Japanese expedition to Antarctica in 1958. Just search for it on the web, you'll get more info ^^

MJ, keep reading about Eight Below:
(from wiki)
Background
The 1958 ill-fated Japanese expedition to Antarctica inspired the 1983 hit film Nankyoku Monogatari. Eight Below is the adaptation of the events of the 1958 incident moved forward to 1993.[1] Dog teams were removed from the ice in February 1994.[citation needed] In the 1958 event, fifteen Sakhalin Husky sled dogs were abandoned when the expedition team was unable to return to the base. When the team returned a year later, two dogs were still alive. Another seven were still chained up and dead, and six unaccounted for.

It'd be really cool if they filmed this in Antarctica but they probably wont. Too expensive probably and it'd be hard physically on the actors and there might not be room on their base. McMurdo Station, where I stayed for half a year, maybe, but we were always running out of room for the workers and researchers who come down on a regular basis so for a whole film team, it probably wont happen.
