I've just finished watching Emperor of the Sea for the third time, and my admiration for this woman grows greater with each viewing. She makes Madam Jami the woman you love to hate and you hate to love, but in spite of all the death and devastation she leaves in her wake, you love her anyway. I've only seen one of her movies. She is by far best of the best. Ive been captured (hook line an sinker). Madam Jami puts her above the stratosphere of actors! After witnessing such enthralling presence on screen, i was quite sure how to recover from such a brilliant performance, it left me thirsty, how could i settle for less!!! She dominates every scene, a goddess that draws an army of believers to which in turn will follow her into the abyss. To me she's like a Korean version of Helen Mirren, just has this compelling presence (and incidentally, also seems very adept at playing queens--I'm watching her now in "Queen Insoo" and want to watch "Iron Empress" next. However, I'm sure she's probably also played non-queen roles as well). She just seems to embody her role and I forget I'm watching a performance after a while. It's a shame that the veteran actors and actresses always seem to lose out in the "ratings" games. I'm certain it is because they are so good at tormenting our young heroes and heroines on the screen. But, it's foolhardy to downplay the person or their talent simply because they've convinced you to hate their characters. That is what great acting contains: believability. And the great Chae Si-ra is always believable, and quite gorgeous, to boot... :) RTHamper Feb 12 2013 1:05 am Can't understand why the rating here is so low. This actress is terrifically versatile--handling both heroine roles (e.g., Iron Empress) and villainess roles (e.g., Emperor of the Sea) with equal dexterity. I'm definitely a new fan of hers. I think Chae Shi-Ra looks a lot like the late, great Audrey Hepburn and she also acts with the same grace and class. I haven't seen many actresses that have these qualities on screen today but this beautiful lady definitely does. Now I am watching Emperor of the Sea and Chae Shi-Ra is great in this as well.
