Set within music field, "Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru" depicts a love story between a 25-year-old sound engineer and 16-year-old high school student Riko, who posessess a gifted voice.

25-year-old sound engineer Aki (Takeru Satoh) is a member of popular band "Crude Play," but right after the band decides to make their major record debut Aki quits the band. But, Aki provides his music to Crude Play under the name of producer Soichiro. Aki begins to date Riko (Sakurako Ohara), whose father runs a fruit and vegetable shop. Riko doesn't know about Aki's background, but she likes to listen to him hum. Riko is in a band herself, with childhood friend Yuichi and Sota. One day she is scouted by producer Soichiro.

I can feel the characters emotion.. It had deep meaning in every songs that Aki wrote. I really love the ending song and I find sakurako ohara have really nice voice.

I wish there's sequel for this.. I want happiness for them

This drama is special to me because of the character of Aki.There's something in the way he narrate his life and the raw emotion that he portrays made me wonder in many days.. IT's just beautiful and that last song was superb. Cannot remember how many times I listen to the song and I forced myself to learn how to play guitar for that song..

Too bad I didn't watch it on big screen... It was wonderful....

 nice at all since it released on 2013 but heyy it's 2018 already and

 Personally rate:9/10 since this is one of the best Japanese movie

tsuyoi_hikari May 13 2018 10:07 pm 8/10 - I find the movie ridiculous at first (since it was based on manga) but I couldnt stop watching it . :P The music is really great and I thought the love story was pretty ordinary but then the ending song happened and I ended up crying a bucket at the lyrics (lol) -- it hits me right in the heart and I could feel Aki's loneliness and sadness when he wrote the song (his words' choices was perfect and heartbreaking -- like referring himself to shadow and using the word kansha 'gratitude' instead of arigato 'thank you'). It was a perfect song to show how the girl's existence is so precious to him. Never thought the movie gonna be deep but it did so I was fairly surprised. :D

I personally feel that Aki is might be my fave Takeru's portrayal to date -- he fits the brooding type of role so much that I could feel his emptiness and longiness. I hope he play this type of role more often in the future. :D

And to everyone who love the movie, you guys should watch the Sidestory since it was amazing as well. In the sidestory, it explained all the events that happened before Aki met Riko so it answered a bunch of question that you guys might have when watching the movie. The OST is A++ esp the song Aki wrote for Riko; Chippoke na Ai nō Uta.

I just finished watching it and this movie is Wooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.. amazing.

Perfect Cast!!! Thumbs up to Takeru Sato, Sakurako Ohara, and Shohei Miura. I never knew that side of Shohei, he looks soooo coool and sexy portraying a vocalist.

wooow and just wow....

Good cinematography too. Moreover I love the songs... it's all meaningful..

Obviously there will be differences, scenes as to how they interpret this in their own and all, hence series. Otherwise why remake if there'll be no twists at all. Just my 2 cents.

This movie executed the plot perfectly, stellar acting (especially by the two leads), and great cinematography. The songs performed in the movie were also catchy yet meaningful. This is the beautiful movie and the best live action shoujo manga ever. Although there is kdrama of this version, I'm sure no one can beat the japanese version. Sakurako Ohara voice is gold and really amazing.

I love the ending it makes me think in every way but still believe they will be together one day in the future and Sato is so aaarrgghhh handsome, I fall for him time after time and want to marry him for real lol.

dea Dec 05 2016 2:05 am Just watched this movie (plus the side strory) for the second time last night, and get more amazed by how well this film was made. The cast, OST, plot, cinematography were all excellent.

I first watched this movie because of Miura Shohei and started listening to the OST bcs his voice in the Crude Play, but Ohara Sakurako's voice is beyond amazing. Really love all of her songs in this movie, especially the last song, Chippoke na Ai no Uta (I even learned how to play it with piano, glad to find that my teacher also watched this movie).

And now I am reading the manga, and surprised how different yet same compared to the live action. Some scene and dialouge were the exact same, but some were different in a beautiful way.

Hats off!!

There was something like a connection.. I was so drawn to the movie.. I cannot pinpoint what it was exactly.. maybe the cinematography? the sounds? the actors? to put it all together everything was so perfect that made me hooked just by the second the movie started... This movie was very well made.. just let me appreciate whomever was the sound director.. the sounds were definitely A class level!! The cinematography is really superb! The lighting... the scenery.. there are so many scenes in this movie that if you screen shot it is worth to be a wallpaper.. that is how good the cinematography is.. but most of all.. their voices their voices were melodies in my ear especially at the last part when aki called out to "riko" his voice was damn soooooo seeexxxy!

ARGHH!!! this movie is ssssssssssssssoooooooooo GREAT!!!

Xeric Oct 26 2016 4:47 am It was a random thought after i read the manga if there is an anime or live action for it and downloaded it just for the sake of trying to compare it. I was always disappointed when a manga/ an anime was made into live action movie/drama.

But this one deserve a thumb ups. The casting are almost perfect (the characters are well portrayed. just like in the manga. i love it!) and the music. it was well made! like seriously the music are just so good! i had tears in my eyes when i listened to the last song. at least i am happy that the both of them are still together after the whole mess.

hats off to all the crew that made it happened.

Hoshi Dec 29 2015 8:33 am The copy that I watched had a different subtitle for the last song. It said, "Even if my existence will be a shadow to your light." And that made me cry buckets, too, like a retard. I interpreted it as Aki saying he no longer has a role in Riko's life, not just in her music career; he's just a shadow now. But then I did some research and found a more precise translation: "Even if my existence cast a shadow on your light." It didn't have the same impact on me as the first one lol but it's still sad--her memory of him telling her he didn't love her is the shadowy part in her life. It didn't make me cry. Maybe it's because the latter is the cause while the first lyric version I've encountered is the effect: he had to tell her he never liked/loved her so he could get out of her life and her career would be okay. Being removed, no longer a part of... Now that is really painful, my eyes are moistening again haha. He already had the mindset of protecting her and her songs, growing together in this career, with him determined to face music again because of her presence...but then... I was punching my pillows while crying during the last song, even if I was saved by the very last scene, I was still tearing up! Awww Aki, he just wants to have an honest person in his life and that too is robbed of him. I also appreciate the fact that they didn't need to solve that conflict by kicking Takagi's ass. Aki accepted that reality even though it's making him miserable. That's very realistic for me, that's usually one would do, like "hey, that's life," esp if it's business.

Sometimes, when you love true, you have to sacrifice even if it hurts. And that even achieving or protecting those dreams can be a painful process, not just to you but also to the best thing that ever happened to you (like Riko to Aki).

It's the type of movie that you never thought would turn out this way. It didn't set out to make you cry but at the end, you couldn't help but cry even if that's not the intention of the story. It's just that. That's their situation. Reality. Boom!

Neither a goodbye nor a revolt to Takagi's setup or the press (like drop everything and be with Riko). I actually think the last kiss is the representation of the last track Tiny Love Song. That tiny thing says a lot just like the song itself is of gratitude, apology and longing. That's probably the kiss is for, too: Gratitude (I thank you Riko from the bottom of my heart for believing in love at first sight, thus it sealed our paths when we met for the first time), Apology (Yes, you're right, I was lying about not being in love with you, my songs attest to that, and I'm so sorry for hurting you this way) and Longing (but damn I can't take this anymore, I want you back in my arms, so here's my kiss, without another word from me, hope that answers all your questions and hope this becomes a push to your back to continue shining on stage while our time is not yet allowed). ❤️

Aki still will go to London to find his true music, and Riko will stay in japan and be a succesful singer with her band. And when they are already grown up, they will meet again at the end. Because Riko is the only girl that can truly love Aki. And they both have made each other become a better pertson

Anthony Feb 20 2015 9:03 pm Kiss at the end is NOT a romantic happy ending, its heartbreaking goodbye - just like title of song. But that's just another reason why this movie is so good.

Story is not the usual bubblegum romance, or cliched Hollywood love at first sight; it tries to say something about deepest love, or best love, which tragically here means unrequited love (like all 'the artists who will never get heard').

Aki realizes that Riko can't become the singer she needs to be, or 'discovered', in his shadow. And Riko comes to learn that Aki can't write music or stay inspired within the 'system'... or as someone famous... or without his pain. Neither could stay 'themselves' - the person each other loves, if they stay together. For both, there is no personal growth in security or being protected.

True love often means accepting change and letting go of others, and the past, just as artists need to forget their best labors of love so they can move on to better work, to create new beauty. The price for loving is inevitably losing and loneliness.

Takeru Sato is such a fantastic young actor. Having him act alongside Takashi Sorimachi (one of my favourite actors) just made my day.

I definitely recommend viewers to go and read the manga.

Pan May 04 2014 3:21 am i have tried hard to search for this movie since i watched on garda air plane. it makes me crazy on how the actors move. the trust and believe Have sychronized very well. the meaning of each song is so deep to show how the writter felt and it is only for Riko to sing the song. amazing movie.

I wander what would happened to those two, because I saw Aki's crying and Mush also doubting Aki's love (and sincerity, I guess) but, there's also Shun who'll lead Mush to the truth. Couldn't wait!!!! Aaahhh......!! My heart is already beating this fast only because I think of it!

Second, I became an insta-fan of Takeru Sato when I watched Beck. Third, I think the movie had given justice to the manga since they picked characters who fit perfectly on their roles. As I thought, from the very start, I knew that Aki was just playing with her and I was also upset because of it, but when I was re-read it again I realized that he would be falling in love with Mush, because if you guys recall, the narrative of Aki's thought was saying that "at first" or "at that time" he didn't love her at all. So.. I guess that means "now" or present time, his feeling has changed. And now... I guess,, he is falling harder than he thinks. 愛

Bobby Priyantono Mar 30 2013 5:59 am Kubota Masataka Is a wonderfull actor! i've seen his performance in Keitai sousakan 7 and his perfomance from a boring high school student to a believable hero was absolutely splendid! I'm not sure how he is as in other shows and movies but this is certainly good news to me! and the fact that he's playing with takeru sato again is good news to me!
