High school student Eun Gyeol (Ryeo Un) has hearing-impaired parents, but he has a gift for music. He is a model student by day and plays the guitar in a band at night. One day, he visits a mysterious musical instruments store and travels to a strange place. There, Eun Gyeol meets Ha Yi-Chan (Choi Hyun-Wook), Choi Se-Kyung (Seol In-A) and Yoon Chung-A (Shin Eun-Soo). They form a band called Watermelon Sugar. Meanwhile,Ha Yi-Chann has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung, who is known as the Cello Goddess of Seowon Arts High School, and tries to win her heart. Yoon Chung-A is hearing-impaired. She is cold and aloof to others.

It just reminds me of what it means to be living in the moment. The friends i lost and gained over the years. The meaning of acceptance and hope. the acting in this was insane. I felt every piece of emotion in this. This drama deserved everything and more.

I need more dramas like this!!!

The story is incredibly touching. It highlights the unconditional love of parents and the sincere respect and love of children for their parents. Every cast member delivered so well. Their chemistry is outstanding. This series is highly recommended. ☺️

I honestly can’t remember anything similar. When I was still in school, the kids were good-natured, and even now with my child, I’ve never heard of any bullying. It really comes down to how children are raised by their parents.

I for some reason cried when the band transitioned to present and past and when he got to talk to yi chan and transitioned into his present father. Ha yi chan was a great actor to this drama, truly carried it

All four of them excels in acting and everyone portrayed their roles amazingly.. I don't get too attached to kdramas but the fact that I'm here just proves how I love this series very much.. Erika Jul 08 2024 8:27 pm This series turned out to be wonderful. The writing was not perfect and it left too much on the table in the end, but overall I was happy with the pace and most pleased with the cast chemistry.

There are romantic elements that made me smile but for once I wasnt just yelling "Kiss Already" to the TV. Meaning, it wasn't all about the push/pull or will they/won't they.

The bromance was the funniest, purest, most thoughtful depiction I've ever seen. It dominated the show as it rightly should have, which is why I guess some things got a little left out in the end.

Do they ever explain what happened to grandma? Why was she taken away from the house? Did she ever get reunited with her mom? It’s a lovely series but I’d like it to stop being so harsh like the child abuse scenes.

Oops. Wonder what other time slip mistakes are in the series?

The romance in the ending had to happen because of the storyline but I was right up in the family moment. And loved seeing Dion Phaneuf’s Stanley Cup Champion hockey jersey in the final band scene! I love how she speaks to you without speaking at all.

Combining time travel with additional themes, like a family's restoration, and some sweet younger romances that stand the test of time, was an excellent idea. So it's not the same old, same old time travel story where you can easily guess ahead of time what will happen by the end. Highly recommended, sweet drama!

Jason Feb 11 2024 3:07 pm It was a heartwarming drama to watch. Lee Chan signing his song to Chung Ah might have been the best scene in the entire series. I do wish a few things could've been shown in the last episode or by adding an episode.

1. When the Chairman gave the witch her walking papers, I wanted to see his interactions with Chung Ah as Eun Gyeol interprets the recent events.

2. After the Chairman went on his trip to Europe with Chung Ah, it would've been fun to see her reunite with Lee Chan (before or after her years of university study abroad). She sent him the fax but it went unanswered with him being in the hospital.

3. A bit of screen time for the newly reunited [deaf] couple as they navigate life, with her teaching him more sign language.

4. Some closure between the real Se Kyeong and Choi Hyun in 1995.

Second, if Ha Eun-gyeol and On Eun-yu are in relationship, I wonder how Ha Yi-Chan and Yoon Chung-ah would reunite with Choi Se-gyeong. Third, how is Bal San? I didn't see the adult version of his..

I wish this drama won a lot of awards! most of them rookie actors, even some just debuted in this drama but their acting, their effort (check on behind the scenes), the storyline, the message, it all so good! it's not only about time slipping but also about family, friendship, dreams, and musical! I wish Korean drama had more drama like this, it's rare, and unpredictable >_< even if they make the drama sequel from each character's POV I will still watch it, because I believe it will be awesome (note: they shouldn't change the actors) ep16 feels so short I need to watch it again as if the story still goes on!!

On nth Kdrama Dec 20 2023 11:37 am @monster88, Deaf persons can of course read and write even without learning the sign language. There are two ways that help them learn to how read (and write): lipreading and sign language.

It was briefly shown in a particular episode that Chung-ah can understand what a person is saying through looking at his/her lips. So she most probably learned to read and write because she knows how to lip-read. I hope it answers your question. ?:)

I loved the series, so addictive! I just don't like Se Kyung, she's such a scene Stiller, even until the very end, she couldn't even let Eun Gyeol finish their live performance, she just have to get noticed by going out and having to make Eun Gyeol leave the performance as well... And I just wanted more scenes between Eun Gyeol and young Chung Ah, every scene they have together are so heartwarming, mother and son made me cry a lot of times (especially the scene in the Attic) - they have the fewest interaction between the 4 main characters but theirs is so powerful, I felt Eun Gyeol's over protectiveness and love for his mother, and the anger he felt knowing his mother is being abused!!!

I can't really say that I enjoyed it.. I can't really connect the dots.

    1. Like the proper closure between his father and his 1st love. Or even the realization that he didn't really like her like he thought.
    2. The chemistry between the leads are questionable. I know it's a kdrama but really? Just because she's good-looking anything can pass??
    3. The male lead is all over the place. Like he is just in the scene because he is needed in that scene. His interaction with the female lead is forced.
    4. The ending OMG. I can't even start. It's all over the place.

Touching To The Max I feel that hyun wook and ryeo un are going to be very popular in the future. Hyun wook really amazed me especially in the last episode. He doesn't seem like a rookie. + Seol in ah acting is superb, the way she delivered her emotions is unbelievable! + eun soo was so cute and her acting is amazing ?❤️ Her smile though . My heart shattered many times for Yi Chan who had the kindest soul and still had to suffer such tragedy, Eungyeol for having to live with the guilt for being the cause of the accident, grandma who despite her harsh words had so much love for her only grandson that she rather be the one suffering, the dream scene Yi Chan had during surgery thinking that they could only be dreams, Yi Chan trying to be positive but breaking down at his realisation of his hearing loss, even Chung ah's dad finally expressing himself through sign language, Chung ah's happiness juxtaposing with Yi Chan's tragedy, Yi Chan's message in the cassette, Eungyeol hearing from 1995 Yi Chan to express himself mirroring how 2023 dad told him in a rage. Just so so much to take in. It has been a ride and I started off not having expectations and was just finding a random show to watch but this is by far the best drama I've watched this year. It was full of heart, friendship, love and youth. I even love the side characters - Bal San being the surrogate big bro to Yi Chan being there for both his hospitalisation, the quirky watermelon team, hyun chul for getting back at the gangsters for hitting yi chan.

I just wished they showed a little more at the ending. It would have been better if they showed that Chung ah was there at the rooftop with yi chan when he was in despair, supporting him like how he supported her. I like to believe Yi Chan's dream scene came true and grandma did get to see him graduate but it would have been nice if they showed that. Also, there wasn't any closure for se gyeong and eun yu which made it seem like eun yu was a side character. No answers why they weren't staying at their place. Did se gyeong reconcile with dad? And I might have missed it but how did eun yu know that master was her grandpa? And how did Mr vida become master? Is it because of his regrets? Still many questions but overall it was still a satisfying ending for eungyeol's family who is the main catalyst for his time travel anyway

NY Nov 15 2023 3:33 am This was such an entertaining drama. Even my husband enjoyed it and he doesn’t always watch kdrama. It was funny. It was cute. I’m quite picky with kdrama and while it isn’t perfect, I’d consider it one of my top favorite kdramas this year. The ending did seem rushed. There were some plot holes I wished were explained. It sucks that its only 16 episodes. It couldve gone for one more to flesh it out. I was also secretly hoping for a different ending that would’ve been more sad and pulled on viewer’s heartstrings though. Lol

Choi Hyun Wook is an actor I would want to know in real life. I think his happiness and his fun personality that we see in his acting is who he actually is. because he’s like this in every show, a consistent actor is great. He is so good at playing characters that get hurt…why? Because he always brings the joy to the show, so it’s such a shock and heartbreak when his character gets hurt. Always. We look at him being the clown and think “oh his acting is immature” but like Grandma said about Yi Chan he actually is the most kind and mature one out of the group. He just hides it well. Like when Yi Chan told Eun gyeol to go back home to his Dad. My gosh he looked so innocent on the hospital bed after making everyone smile. It was exactly the same in Weak Hero Class.Every show I’ve seen him in including Twenty Twenty One has been like this!

It had plenty of music and also time travel, yes, but it was actually about the love of a family, about learning to take joy in life instead of trying to carry the weight of the world alone. About mending broken relationships. And a little about how to be empowered, even if life throws disabilities at you. The acting was wow, from the little kid Eun Gyeol to the teen Eun Gyeol to the adult parents to the 1995 parents. I rarely give 100 point ratings, but this is definitely a 100 point drama!

And ofc, what happened to Eun Yoo and her mom, did her parents not get divorced, was her childhood better and not as strenuous, etc? I also wish they could have shown Watermelon Sugar also playing a song with the grown up band members-how cool would have that been! But all in all, definitely worth a watch! Loved every bit of it!! Gonna miss this drama!

I learned a lot while watching them and realized that if TV shows included more representations like this, without discriminating or stereotyping people with disabilities, others would learn a lot too. The characters were genuinely adorable, and the actors who portrayed them were highly skilled. While the Eun Gyeol and Eun Yu couple delivered a good performance, I found myself wishing to see more of the younger Yi Chan and Chung Ha love story. They were truly delightful to watch together. The younger band members added a lot of fun to the series. Choi Hyun Wook, in particular, reminds me of Yoo Ah In in some ways. His exceptional skill steals the show in every genre he tackles at such a young age. I bing watched all his shows.

This, along with Reply 1988, makes me realize why I love watching K-dramas. They connect with a depth you might not even realize exists or could reach. Thanks for the delightful watch!

Actually this drama 's story is really amazing. The acting was at another next level. Specially Choi hyun wook and Shin eun soo had the best acting. This drama is really entertaining. This drama is very unique from other dramas. I will recommend this drama to all kdrama fans. One of the best dramas of all time. SO Nov 13 2023 2:35 pm I guess the whole point of the drama was that miracles don’t exist even if you’re able to time travel you can’t change the outcome of the past. Kind of pointless if you ask me. What’s the point of the premise of the plot of him trying to change his dad’s fate if at the end he’d failed to do so.

Even though I’m disappointed at how episode 15 has ended, I have to say that I really liked the chemistry between the two male leads and I especially liked the second leads love story. Choi Hyun Wook is a scene stealer, he stood out with his performance in Weak Hero Class 1 and in this show. I hope he will get lead roles soon, his performance always outshines the male protagonist to the point where the viewers start to believe that he’s the main protagonist. I thoroughly loved the love story of Yi Chan and Chung A the most. Overall it’s a great series apart from the disappointing end of episode 15. I hope he miraculously doesn’t lose his hearing, although I won’t hold my breath.

The storyline drags on too much and gets confusing .The young actors so not have the star power for one to hang on and watch for sheer sake of being star struck. I find the time travel draggy and takes effort to push on. I am not so willing to. Ep 4 still showing the younger version of the dad. Getting boring. I shall skip to watch Park Bo Young or Eun Bin. Also despite liking Seoh In Ah a lot, the younger actors look too young next to her.

So many shows this year that I was eagerly waiting for months turned out dissapointing and i always end up dropping them halfway thru. But this show? Definitely brought back my love for kdramas! My goodness, everything is just perfect. It's not all just teen romance and cheesiness, but more of an insight about how precious everyones youth is and how it should be treasured. Just heartwarming i tell you. I also laughed a lot, and teared up a loott :3 I can't wait to watch the last 2 episodes! Also Yoon Chung A? My baby! I love her ? I don't think I ever like a character this much ♡ She's kind but she's not stupid nice, she defends herself and knows her worth, even after all she's been through. My precious baby~~ I just wanna protect her and hug her omg ♡

I rather make him confess his love to cheongah before the concert instead of making her as another option.. especially there are signals that "segyeong" has fallen in love with eungyeol like during their photoshoot her eyes kept starring for eungyeol instead on him

It certainly provides a different perspective by giving a fresh theme and vibrant characters. The cinematography of this drama is also excellent. Additionally, it feels like we have become witnesses of something so elaborate that all our senses would aspire to achieve such a perfection in details and precision. Altunzel Nov 09 2023 10:20 am I don’t know if I have watched something so touching and relatable on all levels since Hometown Cha Cha Cha. It made me go through a whole emotional rollercoaster. So many feelings and emotions are shown just in a single episode and I could feel those feelings and emotions too. I would say it is indeed one of my all time fav dramas now. I have lost the count of how many times I repeated some scenes and kept rewatching some episodes. Especially, ep 14 spoke to my soul and I couldn’t stop crying because my in er child was hearing everything YiChan said about what parents should be towards their children. It was heartbreaking, yet comforting. Thank you Twinkling Watermelon team. It is a beautiful drama.

After more than half of the episodes, realize that this drama is really a youth drama that teaches us to enjoy our youth. Ha Eungyeol and On Eunyu time travel to enjoy their youth happily in 1995 when they can't have it in 2023. What a great drama!

I'm similar to Eungyeol, He was a Second born child who act as the Eldest because his hyung is a PWD. We took the responsibility of being the role model, the one who understands, and supports. If i would compare myself to him, our situation is in similar circumstances. The moment that he finds out what makes him happy, the guilt builds on him. The day he confronted his father abt his dream and express his feeling, I was flabbergasted because I cannot. It's not rebelling but we're finding ourselves to be in the position that we're passionate about. I'm kinda envious of him because he can enjoy his youth and spend time with his friends unlike me, he suffered much so I hope his life will be twinkling too.

I wonder if this whole storyline was born from Harry Style’s song watermelon sugar bec if it is… is it intentional? An inside joke among the writer’s room? Does the writer know that watermelon sugar is female orgasm? Hahaha. I just find it hilarious bec this is a cute wholesome show hahahaha

gin Oct 20 2023 3:11 pm is eun yu in present day eun gyeol’s brother’s girlfriend that he mentioned in ep 1? he said his girlfriend plays the cello and pretended to be deaf, and in one of the later eps there was a flashback scene where segyeong and eun yu were quarreling and she said eun yu pretended to have lost her hearing (as part of rebelling?). anyone noticed this? can’t wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds!!!

I wonder why does she invites the boys one by one to eat spicy food, when she got a chance to treat all of them eating spicy food during their theme park trip at the previous episode.. if I was the writer I rather made her treating them spicy food right after their theme park trip so that she can see whose can eat spicy foods or not

Glad they pick it back at 8th episode but for this week it's kinda draggy..

The amount of emotions you go through as a teenager and how personalities evulve in the drama is on point the whole time, It's exceptional. One thing that keeps me out of breath is how these boys are always running especially Ha Yi Chan ?

But the one that catches my attention the most is Ryeo Un. His acting is solid, especially when he shows his emotions. His smiling and laughing are so charming, he should do that more often! I enjoy the story so far, it is entertaining.

CCc Oct 16 2023 2:57 pm yall do realise that the CHW is playing the younger version of Eun Gyeol's dad right? obviously the dad wouldn't be acting like a father yet, cuz he's obviously still in his youth. It's so funny how some people dictate and judge how CHW isn't fit for the father role but he's simply not playing that role at all, he's the younger version of the dad.
