Cho Yong-Pil (Ji Chang-Wook) works as a weather forecaster in Jeju island. He is famous for being an uncontrollable person at the meteorological agency. When he thinks he is right, he is not afraid of expressing his view to even the administrator at the meteorological agency. He first wanted to become a weather forecaster after his mother died due to an incorrect weather forecast. She worked as a female diver. Cho Yong-Pil was born and raised at Samdalri on Jeju island. He loves his hometown of Samdalri and Jeju Island so much and he still lives there and takes care of the elders at Samdalri. He has a childhood friend Cho Sam-Dal (Shin Hae-Sun). They were born in the same year and grew up together in Samdalri. Even though they were close for many years, they grew apart.

Cho Sam-Dal is a famous photographer who works under the alias of Jo Eun-Hye in Seoul. She reached the pinnacle of her profession after working very hard as an assistant for 8 years in the fashion photography industry. Due to an event, she loses her photography career and her life collapses. She returns to her hometown of Samdalri, which is a place she always wanted to leave. Cho Yong-Pil and Cho Sam-Dal meet again after many years and their relationship develops romantically.

I regret not watching it earlier but then i quickly realize my excitement would have been spoiled by lots of spoilers going around in socmed after its release, since im pretty active in fb. I dont have much expectations, aside from knowing SHIN Hyesun has been blessed with good projects, but since this is not my genre, i slept on this for so long.

I wasnt expecting it to be heavy of a drama since its comedy. I mean, sure, it has some comedic scenes, but as the show progresses, the conflicts also became harder to take in. But thanks to the random funny skits, this show was bearable with the right amount of seriousness and silliness.

I always thought JCW might just be overrated since he doesnt have much prominent previous works, and was widely known for his looks, BUT his acting here is pretty impressive. HYESUN, on the other hand, always seem to carry the show. Most of her shows are on her characters' POV, however, i must say JCW was able to keep up with that and have a good dynamics with her. Shin Hye Sun doesnt have bad roles, she might be put in a poor written dramas but her skills in acting always delivers.

I have to say, SAMDAL wasnt just a good show with good storyline but also with excellent cast!! SO MANY FAMILIAR FACES!! I noticed a lot of good actors here, and i think that actually helped to make this series worth watching for.

He is married with a child but we never see his wife and child on the island... only in one flashback when he returns home as a 'failure'. He is always with the Power Rangers and never seems to need to go home... apart from a few diapers that he buys in the first few episodes there is never any real mention of his family... I understand the show was very heavy with multiple characters to follow and the part of the wife/child was not really needed... but seriously... the are such non-entities they may as well not exist in the story. He legit is never home and at the end he just up and moves back to Seoul with out even seeming to consider (or possibly bringing???) his family

The moon is like a story that emphasizes passionate romance, but it's more of a warm daily story that makes my heart calm. This story taught me about how life in the village is more comfortable than in the city. In the village, we learn to work together and help each other. It's really a warm and pleasant story. I really like it. Amazing!!!! 97/100.

Cadita Feb 08 2024 1:19 am No. Nope. Non. This was a Massive waste of talent (and my time). I struggled to get through the first two episodes. Then I read a review which hit on most of my criticisms. I agreed with everything they said (such as someone that is that famous not only has a lawyer, but also a PR firm on retainer) and that reviewer said it got Worse instead of better.

That review mentioned there was no justice for her - the assistant got away with killing her career. That is a hard no for me. What that reviewer did not mention was that the lead character (as written) was unlikable and pointedly mean (even physically hitting) to the lead male. Lead male was written without a backbone - or (apparently) no self-esteem.

Admittedly, I began watching it primarily for Ji Chang-Wook, who is absolutely mesmerizing in "The Sound of Magic" (and also quite good in "K2" and "Healer") but pleasantly surprised to recognize the (fantastic) actresses Shin Hae-Sun (lead) and Kim Mi-Kyung (mom) from their other works.

One last observation: the chemistry between the two leads is friendship. Despite their fervent efforts, I do not see any sexual chemistry. Nada.

somin Feb 07 2024 12:03 am If you watched it for ji changwook alone you should have just stared at a picture of him or something? without haesun there is no ji changwook in this drama and vice versa. It worked because it was them! What a powerful combination! Not just them but the rest of the supporting actors! A one in a million ensemble. When you realize that the plot is about self preservation and finding your way back home, you’ll stop comparing it to other sea side/ small town dramas because its really not the same nor similar.

First few episode, I did not like it, a lot of scraeming and shouting that took the essence of understanding the story. After maybe episode 6 I started to like it a little, but the last 4 episode were really good. And as I said if it wasn't for Ji Chang-Wook I wouldn't have continue watching.

His son loves Samdal very much and vice versa but he broke them apart while it’s not Samdal’s mother fault that his wife died. But overall it’s a really good drama and I enjoyed it very much. I finished it for 3 straight days.

Kwon Hye-joo knows how to write a coherent thoughtful emotional drama. The cinematography is sensational as we’re treated to Jeju island. Cha Young-hoon, director, seems in total synch with the screenwriter as it all flows so well throughout. The casting brings a perfectly balanced oh so talented group of actors whom we know and love, a perfect fit with the screenwriter & director. Let me get this off my chest, Kim Mi kyung delivers an outstanding Award Worthy performance. Her works are so numerous she has nothing to prove but delivers a home run each time. I so enjoyed Ji Chang Wook’s special trademark as the fine actor he is. Actually, an all star cast. I actually didn’t anticipate enjoying this drama as much as I did. Strongly recommend.

I enjoyed watching this drama and wish it didn’t end as it was what I was looking forward to each weekend. The cast did an amazing job, I LOVE Ji Chang-Wook as usual in every drama that he stars in! What an amazing actor!!! This drama definitely left me feeling warmth and happiness.

Together with Like Flowers in Sand this serie enter directly in our top 5 over more than 100 series. Fantastic !! Very moving, it transported us from the first to the last minute. Very good as always Ji Chang Wook, Shin Dong Mi and Seo Hyun Chul Extraordinary again and again Kim Mi Kyung and Shin Have Sun From serie to serie always better Kang Mi Na. She is a great promise of Corean Cinema Very good also Kang Young Seok that interpetated very well a character we hated from the first to the last minute. Lady Jan 14 2024 6:20 pm The grandma/mum carries this drama, Kim Mi Kyung she’s such a versatile actress. She acts well with Ji Chang Wook, who is brilliant and gorgeous. Others great too, both dads, sisters and the divorced husband.

FL is a cute funny imp, not really lead material but plot line not her fault. Ji Chang can do comedy thriller and drama, would like to see him in a scene with Yang Kung Won is it? That’d be funny. Dolphin theme interesting. Kid group good. 
A lot of talent in this show. Clever casting.

Quinn Jan 14 2024 5:30 pm I’m on episode 11 and so far not much is happing plot wise. I’ll keep watching because I have nothing else to do, but so far this show is a bit of a let down. Everyone in the town seems to be obsessed with Sam-Dal, from her group of guys only friends (who all seem to have crushes on her), to the annoying old ladies who just sit around and gossip all day. Also, can we talk about Sam-Dal’s drinking problem? She gets black out drunk all the time and much of the plot revolves around stuff she does while drunk but can’t remember the next day. It’s not cute and while I don’t have a problem with characters drinking, her character is an alcoholic or, at the very least, a binge drinker.

So right now I am at a point where I would like something slightly mature, but breezy without some major dramatic storylines. So I am enjoying this series so far. All the characters have a certain personality and character that they don't suddenly change, they feel real.... For example Young-pil who was always a bit of a romantic and expressive and remains so, Sam-Dal who was always more practical and ambitious and remain so, but.that doesn't make her cold hearted and Sang-Do who always had to deal with feeling not good enough, be it financially or worthy enough for the girl or having opportunities, but still doesn't loose his inherent goodness or selflessness (by choosing not to sabotage their relationship or confessing his feelings to Sam-Dal)

When it comes to the elders, you could also understand the pain the husband was going through, about losing his wife, being afraid of forgetting her if he forgave Mi-Ja or the family.... his real fear was people moving on and carrying on their life like nothing happened.... but he finally accepts and is ready to get closure...

Also the well meaning people... overall the characters are well-etched in my opinion and its a good casual watch

The woman is shown to have a stellar career in the beginning & it all goes down the drain because a spiteful woman manages to tweak & twist things & things got out of hand.Then she's shown to flee Seoul & return to her hometown & hide living there because she's embarassed to face anyone. She's shown as a strong individual from the get go,I mean she's the one who roasted her ex who cheated on her savagely (throwing kimchi jigae on his head) even,but what happened to her confidence when the same woman screwed her,what she should have done was deal with it headstrong. Sam Dal insults her friends & their dignity when she acts like only her career failed when those guys had the same thing happen to them,another thing she does is when something happens to her,or when there's a situation,you see her friends helping her out for practically everything but after that problem is resolved,she Abandons them. For ex. when she was taken to Seoul by her friends & after her confrontation with the lying colleague she gets out of the building without saying even so much as a word to those boys. She does this with every one. Basically everyone solves or clears her issues FOR her. Her character is inconsistent & contradicting. The best part for me was Kim Mi Kyung & JCW's reunion after Healer followed by Young Pil's friends and Sam Dal's sisters and the little kid. They (subplots) had much better story arcs but they are being used as 'fillers' or they show up on screen for 2 minutes and poof. The cutting of scenes back & forth is awful,poor execution. Shin Hye Sun exaggerates her character and puts on unnecessary articulation that's overly done onscreen and boy there's zero chemistry between JCW. I was a bit torn up getting into this drama especially after coming from The Worst of Evil which was one of the best dramas last year. Why does JCW gets being cast with underwhelming actors and narrow chemistry? (in RomComs only) The drama has a very thin line as plot which is being extended for no reason,and it could be watched as a guilty pleasure if it wasn't for the FL's character which is really disappointingly written. Writers can do really better considering the time we live in,women with flaws and beauty both can be written in a well constructed plot and story that holds it together.

The drama is about rediscovering her true self and realizing that the people in her hometown she hated and left behind are actually the people who genuinely cared for her.

And I think there is a bigger person behind her downfall and not only Eunju. Eunju bringing up the scarf in the photoshoot in the 1st episode, it seems like someone is behind that.

The story is a bit typical but maybe relatable to some audiences plus the cast are great at portraying their characters too. I love Shin Hye Sun and Ji Chang Wook by the way.

NO SPOILER but…

My only gripes in the story is the career angle. The writer decided to make the FL weak and allow herself to be a victim of a situation that actually she can resolve a matter of factly? She’s a mature woman with a great career in front of her. Something has to be done in the very beginning but didn’t happen because it’s easier to runaway? So there’s a long drama? Why not do something to clear her name.

She managed to get to the top her career and made a name for herself, why let it put to waste by some selfish individual who even betrayed her. No need for revenge here, only justice.

When? In the last episode? That doesn’t make sense to me.

But overall I can’t say it’s not worth a watch.

This one is better. The acting of both actors are natural and the chemistry is superb. Casting them both was truly a great decision.

I am a huge fan of Ji Chang Wook and I have not watched Shin Hye Sun's dramas except Angel's Last Mission Love but I am impressed by her.

I could not wait for the next episodes.

I love the side characters too. I really like scenes with Jeju Dolphin Center guy and Sam-Dal's sister. They seem really good together! The little girl, Ha-yul, is so cute too. I also love the connection between the family and how well this drama portrays that. In general, this drama is so comforting and well put together, so go watch if you haven't!

? Jan 08 2024 1:14 am I believe this is an amazing drama. It's not just an belief, it's a fact. The whole buildup of the plot was amazing starting from the beginning. I loved how the drama showed realistic sides of people when they try to be the dragon from that small lake. It was also very heartwarming when Sam dal had.a place to comeback, hometown where everyone was on her side. When she was in Seoul, everyone turned their back on her right away when she had the scandal. This really showed that you need to have the right people around you, and family love is so beautiful. I see so much symbolism in this drama especially with the dolphins (namchun and odol) and the big dipper. The dolphins represented haedal and hayul and it was very touching. This really showed that the love of a mother is so strong. This rlly showed me that not only this drama focuses on the main two characters, but the side characters stories are really interesting. The 3 sisters all had those hardships in different ways but they somehow overcome it when they return home. For me, I really like the family love more than the romantic love in this drama. Also the revenge part with bang eunju, I rlly love how she is overcoming that and not getting bothered by anything but living her life. This will eventually knock down euniu because she will be so stressed since she doesn't know what Sam dal would do to her. Not only that, fakers don't last long. She is already failing to prove she is better. Ok those of who read my comment thank you... I just wanted to share a little piece of my mind. I don't know why but I tend to find these themes and symbols in kdramas.. and I get mesmerized. Lastly j wanted to say the whole theme of jeju Island was a great choice since it Carries so much ideas to talk about and show in a kdrama. It has unlimited sources unlike some other plain kdramas. I would definitely give this drama a 10/10

SHS is slaying her role once more but JCW is also holding his own. I like the directing as well. Very functional, well shot and some pretty tight editing. The final episodes should be even better.

Surprisingly, the side characters are great too. This is an underrated gem and it needs more attention.

Michael Jan 02 2024 4:12 am Ji Chang Wook and Mim mi Kyung so brilliant in this series. Their experience and talent shine through, they can command a scene. Also good are Yang Kyung won - always funny character actor, and the two dads. The FL is quirky and funny at times but leads have no chemistry as she plays it like a little kid. Fishing ladies exvellent have seen many before. Storyline doesn’t have enough drama but acting keeps it going, tho long gaps between episodes makes it easy to forget plot.

Ji Chang Wook should be paired again with the likes of Nam Ji Hyun or Park Min Young to see some real sparks fly. 
So far give it 8/10 for the people mentioned above, needs more romance, spice or thriller action, or comedy to make it stand out. This is not a lead pair for romance, so more comedy or thriller action needed. Will watch to the end though.

I understand it's korean culture to drink but still, have some limits and it can get annoying when the character constantly ""can't remember" what happened coz of drinking.

Shin Hyesun and Ji Changwook are giving it their alllll as usual. I hope more people can understand and sympathise more with samdal after seeing these latest eps, the both of them suffered and each thought they were doing the right thing and being selfless for their love… also sorry to sangdo but there’s no way he’s beating yongpil Hahahah.

ari Dec 29 2023 1:57 am this show is so gd boring like Im trying to wait it out but I just finished ep 4 and I feel like all of that could have been put into 2 episodes even 1 and 1/2. This is just so boring there's 0 plot, random flashbacks, and for the past 4 episodes shes just focused on that fact that she was wronged but she wont tell the world what really happened because its gonna hurt her Ego?? Like shes 40 you'd expect that type of behavior from an early 20 year old but not a 38 year old. Just boring all around I really want to drop this but everyone says its so good and I'm just not seeing it. For now its honestly a 3/10

No romance no things but the start was great however feel Chang Wook and Have Sun was wasted. The drama is find the problem is that the story is slow and the end is approaching. Hae Sun and Chang Wook are romantic and intelligent actors ????

Episode 7 showed us that YP's father ordered her to breakup with YP. Samdal begged YP's father and told him that she cannot live without YP. She was forced to do just that but in the end was probably tricked into thinking that YP broke up with her via sms.

The drinking scenes are a bit much and exhausting to watch ….?. Also, unclear as to who dumped who? One minute you see them all leaving town together and then you see FL begging him to not break up with her and then you see the dad locking the ML in his room? Maybe I missed something? Hopefully by the end of the drama there will be clarity. Episode 8 was very moving and well done.

Way too many long filler scenes. Luckily the 2 sisters and niece are saving it from being a BUST. Definitely a series you can miss an episode or two and still understand what's going on.

Yong Dec 25 2023 1:36 am I just want to point out that the writer is one meticulous writer. Love how subtle the scenes and the dialogs are but in the end, it reveals something. Like how Sangdo said Samdal is taking care of him but only giving reg milk, and now ep 5 we know why, it has even sadder story. Like how Samdal is shown (albeit verryyyy subtle) having scar in her right knee, and then we know how she got the scar from the flashback. Those self rewarding reveals are real good.

Though it wasn't clear yet of what happened apparently it was Samdal who dumped Yongpil, while her being dumped was some sort of misunderstanding. After the breakup Yongpil was ultimately depressed. You tell me why his father wouldn't have negative feelings for Samdal?

Debolina Banerjee Dec 24 2023 3:47 pm This drama is just my kind of Rom Com. I've watched all 8 episodes so far and I've loved every bit of every episode from the first one. The emotions, the tears, the silent love, expressions and story telling and of course acting are amazing. The character of Ji Chang Wook is probably every woman would want in her life...the support and silent protection, that feeling that someone is always there to whom you can run back to no matter what happens in life...that character is what love is and JCW is portraying it perfectly. The female lead is an amazing actor..it isn't easy to portray those many emotional sides of a woman. There are a few scenes that will remain with me forever... especially the two where both realize they are in love.. Episode 4 - My Crazy Fool. The roles and plot and story look deceptively easy but those easy looking roles are the most difficult to bring to life. I wonder why many here dislike the drama or the characters... perhaps they are not romantics..not ones who have loved madly but lost it painfully. This one has to be one of the most beautiful K-dramas, atleast for me. I wished it would never end but unfortunately only 16 episodes. Wonderful work by the entire team.

Anna Dec 19 2023 5:53 am This drama gets better with each episode. Shin Hae Sun's performance is chef's kiss. She showed the wide spectrum of her character's feelings from confidence to anxiety, embarrassment, empathy, and a myriad of emotions. Ji Chang Wook on the other hand is an absolute eye candy and his character is the greenest green flag in the history of kdrama male leads. Together, they make such heart fluttering, natural chemistry which even made me root for them in real life too. Overall, this drama is such a treat to watch, from scenery, to performances of the leads and supporting roles, to chemistry, and up to the different layers if emotions it made us feel. All I can say is that, the haters are gonna hate they can't take such good dramas to do so well. If it's not up to your taste then don't watch it, I've been reading pointless criticism to this drama. Clearly, these people judged poorly without realizing the purpose of this drama, it's supposed to show flawed characters and how they find themselves to heal. Kudos to the staff and everyone behind this drama. This is truly heartwarming, and healing all throughout.

Khione Dec 19 2023 5:35 am This is a healing drama, slice of life genre. I understand the directors point of view to show how beautiful the sceneries are. It makes me want you to go back to your roots,reminiscing childhood were everything was so simple. I also like the individual's complexity of their characters, you can see how they treat each adversities and situation with passion and empathy. SHS never failed to deliver, beyond expectation, I must say. JCW after hard action worst of evil drama, suprises me with this soft yet steadfast character is really commendable. I hope people will see it as what the theme of the drama is, albeit of what the characters look like. It's like saying the water is shallow upon viewing the surface without knowing it's depth.

I don't usually watch Ji Chang Wook, but even I know he doesn't suit this character. It's okay but it's not the greatest. It's a bit slow but sceneries are nice, and I enjoy Shin Hye Sun so she is what's keeping me here.. and some of the side characters.

Ji chang wook or yeongpil is my type!(everyon are your type!) When I see sung do I feel bad. He's hardworking and he has a cool car. But yeongpil see better for samdal. For my exams,l can't see it for a month.but I know it gonna be good!( sorry my English isn't very good)

I find, that this is quality drama with no boring scenes and when I watch it, the time flies. Jichangwook as Yongpil is so adorable and funny. I can't wait for the next episode.

Also, I don't mean anything bad but I think this is inspired by Hospital Playlist. A group of friends of 4 guys and 1 girl, old songs and slice of life vibe but that's it.

From the first ep, the exhibition is called Eunhye's people but in reality, all those people turn their back once there's a scandal. She is so lonely and now she's back and her real friends are there. The chemistry is alsl top notch, I get curious about their past relationship. It's a good show, good directing and I hope it will stay good. Don't let others affect you, you should watch this. It has funny moments too, heart clenching moment, cute moments, acting is good from everyone.

Anyways.. Shin Haesun and Ji Changwook is so amazing together! You can see the give and take and support they have for each other! They both shine in the small scenes aswell as the big confrontations! I love the way they show the flashbacks… perfect balance of chaos and hertfelt moments. I can feel how deep their connection is. Cant wait to find out all the answers to our questions!

The setting of Samdalri as the hometown also similar to Kesennuma, where the protagonist lives, is a countryside that will make them go back and takes care of other people.
