Hae-Young (Lee Je-Hoon) works as a criminal profiler and is also a police lieutenant. Even though he is a cop, he doesn't trust cops due to his own past experience. Back in 2000, when Hae-Young was in elementary school, his classmate Yoon-Jung was kidnapped and later found dead. Hae-Young saw a woman taking Yoon-Jung from school that day, but the police announced that the suspect was a man. Hae-Young even went to the police station and told the police officers that he saw the kidnapper and she was a woman. The police officers though didn't pay attention to him. The killer was never caught and her case remains unsolved to this day.

Hae-Young meets a reporter at a cafe to reveal bombshells about a celebrity scandal. Meanwhile, veteran detective Soo-Hyun (Kim Hye-Soo) is at the cafe staking out the meeting, unaware that Hae-Young is a cop. She arrests Hae-Young for stalking celebrities. While leaving the police station (the same police station he went to as a kid), Hae-Young hears someone talking to him. He looks around to find a walkie-talkie. The man who is talking to Hae-Young is Detective Jae-Han (Cho Jin-Woong). The detective though is from the year 2000 and he is investigating the disappearance of Hae-Young's elementary school classmate. Hae-Young and Detective Jae-Han begin to communicate via the walkie-talkie.

The criminal case depicted in the drama series is inspired by a true incident that occurred in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea over the course of six years (1986 - 1991). 10 women were raped and murdered within a 2km radius ranging from a 71 year-old grandmother to a 13 year old schoolgirl.

A lot of overacting.

And some genuinely confusing takes on what detective work looks like.

By the last few episodes, I was over the unconvincing plot contrivances and onslaught of writerly conveniences.

Was just sticking around to see how the writers managed to tie up the most important plot threads.

Poorly, judging by the 16th installment.

Which is a pity as the drama contains a number of storytelling elements that I absolutely love. Were the sensationalistic aspects dialed back a bit, the story might have had a chance to breathe and regain its focus.

K-DRAMA FANATI Oct 04 2024 7:17 pm This is a really good drama. However I have watched a substantial amount of K-dramas and the storyline if the weak woman is a bit played out.

The story could have done without the unnecessary love angle. It was good enough to carry in itself.

KHS as the silly, incompetent and love struck was just pointless.

Sometimes a drama really don't need to have a love story.

I grew tired of the Western entertainment and am slowly starting to feel annoyed by the same old same old played out K-Drama cliches.

They could've written her role starting out as a rookie and slowly through time becoming worthy of the team leader title. But in the end she was still a soppy mess just no longer frilled up in pink.

this drama, for me, has 11 or 12 stars out of 10 ;) you will Hate the bad guys and it's like you can stop watching to see what will happen next. What really shocked me, and I can not prove right now if this really (still) happens in Korea like it is shown: seeing subordinates getting hit/kicked by their superiors in 2015 and, of course, before. This is really hard to imagine here in Germany. And it is the same with 1995: really the 1st woman in the police that late?

Anyway, this drama is soooo worth watching and, yeah, the open end make me a little unhappy but now that I read the comment right before mine, yay, I can not wait for a hopefully as great 2nd season :)

The execution of the plot, the unique time travel element, the characters, the soundtrack, everything. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end.

I sincerely hope we get a second season for this masterpiece one day. It would be a crime against humanity not to make it, especially with how the final episode ends. 11/10 would watch again.

Wendy Mar 17 2023 8:59 am I decided to watch it because I’ve heard good things about this show and when I see Lee Je Hoon, I click lol but I was really disappointed. Maybe the writing and execution just isn’t my style, but I was really underwhelmed. It constantly felt like scenes were missing, like important scenes were cut in the process so the scenes that are left felt disconnected. Also the plot twists in some episodes didn't entice me or make the cases anymore interesting. And the writing felt unnecessarily dramatic and out of place at times. For example, when Soo Hyun says she doesn’t know why Hae Young hates the police that much and then says he doesn’t understand the sorrows of being unable to catch the criminals. Except she knows why. Soo Hyun should knows first hand how corrupt some cops are and how quickly they’ll sweep things under the rug just close a case. There's even a part where Gye Chul (I think) says the cops are eager to catch the criminal so they can get a promotion. So it doesn't take a genius to figure out why anyone would hate the police. Also Hae Young does feel sorrow over not being able to catch criminals, hence him getting emotional and frustrated. Sure it doesn't do him any favors to get emotional, but it still shows he cares. So it felt like the dialogue was misplaced to make it seem like Soo Hyun’s saying something harsh but meaningful, but I don’t see it.

Kelly Mar 11 2023 9:43 am This drama is frustrating. I don’t know why others considered it the best crime kdrama. Maybe those perps haven’t watched the better ones. I tried watching until the end but by episode 12… that detective ahn was attacked in front or near the hospital! He was injured and about to die but male lead would rather hear unfinished revelations until his the victim’s last breath! So frustrating.The writer is such an amateur. Throughout episode 1-12 i never felt any excitement about the story it really felt lacking. You cant tell Me to not judge coz i havent seen the end but seeing majority of the episodes says it all. I like The characters though. Especially detective lee jae han. But the series is not as good as what others have said. Its overrated! Well all depends on your taste.

There is an intention of creating a season 2, we just don't know when it will happen. It depends on the availability of multiple parties: Director, actors, etc...

If I have to profile this case, it seems like it is just not the priority of the people that could make Signal season 2 into a reality.

Still hope they could surprise us nevertheless.

Signal is absolutely my fav thriller show or one of the best things I've watched in my life . Great investigations , mystery drama love thriller suspense it has it all. And it has time travel and parellel timelines like Back to the Future

I know there won't be a season 2 but i will never give up and hope a transmission or notification arrives that Season 2 is coming ?? . Unbelievable show and now I'm just going to be disappointment watching anything on OTT .

Snail Mar 21 2022 9:08 am Signal is honestly good but is frustrating me to edge. When I started to look up good crime / thriller dramas to watch, I suddenly remember this show airing about mid year of 2019 somewhere but I only got to watch it this year. The plot of the drama got me hooked at some point, of course because it is goes along with the past and present line ( parallel worlds ). It 'did' really hook me up tho, I watched it during midnight and I certainly did get goosebumps ( idk if I'm overreacting but it actually happened ) and tons of 'oh my gods' in the first and second episode. It didn't 'disappoint' me unlike everybody else would definitely say because it IS that GOOD. Although it confuses me all the time and makes me want to scream at the main characters, the parallel world are really frustrating BUT it's still worth the watch.

— SPOILER !! I'm the type of person to drop off dramas that's not really my style and got me bored, tbh that episode with Shin Da-Hye did bore me a bit but I still stayed. My favorite part of this drama would be the Hongwondong Murders, it's really thrilling and enjoying to watch all throughout. Sangyeob's acting was superb there. It makes me want to hug his character at that moment. Also, I learned a lot of things from that episode.

For the ending, I would just say that I want to strangle the writer and director for ending it like that? /j

No because if we'll talk about it, there are still remaining unanswered questions about the drama. What's the real connection between Jae-Han and Hae-Young? How and when did the transmission all started and how would it end? Don't answer me with the "transmission started because of one's determination" because it doesn't make sense at all... It had been exactly 6 years since the last airing of the drama and I guess there's no hope for season 2... at least the writer should clear it out no?

Anyways, good thriller drama to watch tho. Good job to the three main actors for this drama. I'll definitely rewatch this again if I miss them. 9.5/10!

You can see jirisan drama, it's terrible & got bad rating. Welp, if she doesn't listen to viewers request, how she make us watch her story...?

The walkie-talkie kept creating more and more drama/problems but I kept watching to see if there was a point to it; there wasn't. By episode 8 I'd had enough.

I like "feel good" dramas. This isn't one.

I've watched thriller/action dramas like this that were feel-good dramas. SO it's not like crime dramas can't be feel-good dramas. I stopped watching western TV series because they tend to drill the misery and drama nail hard. This drama felt like a western tv show so... no thank you!

It's too hard to create a drama series that involves a time travel r a parallel world but this drama depicts it perfectly.

People should focus more on the story as it goes, and don't confuse themselves with questions coz in the end it will be answered little by little.

Jae-Han is too attached with his walkie talkie that when he was murdered in the past, he attached himself in that item to communicate with the present. I think this is what the whole story plot is about. It's about seeking justice and changing the past so that bad people will be punished. Jae-Han is a straight although sometimes too clumsy in decision making, he's a very good police officer who just wants to help people in need.

So Why Hae-young of all people? He's the last person, Jae-Han talked to but he's too busy to notice. Remember the 1st case when Hae-Young saw the real kidnapper. He;s telling everyone but no one is listening. Although Jae-Han is too busy he's the 1st person to listen, he even had the paper of hae-young's confession. I think this is the connection they both have.

Kaoru Apr 26 2021 1:05 pm i have nothing against this show because it’s indeed very amazing because of the plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat but there’s one thing that bothered me so much, it’s Lee Je Hoon’s acting.No offense but his acting was too much,he was practically overacting in all the serious scenes, it felt like he had memorized the script and just kept saying the dialogues with exaggeration.He acts fine in other scenes but when it comes to talking about the case details, he overacts ( he has a weird manner of moving his head side to side while he’s seriously saying the dialogues lmao) and it’s so hard to watch.I managed to watch those scenes by looking at the subtitles, but anyways this is a good show just Je Hoon’s acting could have been toned down

The plot is good but how come you leave the red high heels case so quickly and design such a mess characters who ruin everything . "Justice", "Stranger" , "365 day" , "good detective" all of these are for real investigate drama.

AAA Aug 21 2020 10:54 am This is truly an incredible kdrama. One of the best (definitely in my top 3). The story and writing are truly incredible, and they're backed by an amazing cast. Just a warning for anyone interested, this drama is very tragic (there are a lot of sad scenes so just prepare...mentally). This is an absolute must watch for anyone interested in really good thriller/detective/mystery dramas. My only complaints are that there are some story bits that are a bit excessive and a few of the emotional scenes are dragged out, but overall this is an amazing drama. 9.5/10 (Also get ready for season 2 sometime in 2020 or 2021)

So, LJH's acting looked a little unnatural to me. Eventhough LJH's character have more difficult life, i felt anxious for CJW's character during drama. I think CJW gave a realistic soul to his character. Waiting for season 2.

Kate Dayday May 23 2020 11:25 am This is such a nice kdrama. 10/10. Is Season 2 really confirmed? Actually, if you will analyze the ending, it's already done. It may seem like two transmissions happened but I think there are actually more transmissions. This is purely based on my opinion so I'm not saying that this is right but it could be.

First transmission- it wasn't shown but remember when Lee Jae Han first sent the transmission? Park Hae Young told him to go to that old hospital but Hae Young can't remember him and Jae Han died. That means that they failed on it so he told Hae Young to convince him on 1989 because he knows that the transmission will happen again.

Second transmission- this time, they changed what happened to the first one, that's why Park Hae Young knew that the past has changed when he was being brought to the hospital. He knows that there was first transmission. But they failed again. I think Jae Han died when he was discovered from that car and by that time, Kim Bum Joo might have been alive.

Third transmission- it wasn't shown too but this time they may be able to save Jae Han from dying and Kim Bum Joo died instead of him. They knew that they will never be able to change the past. They worked on it for 15 years, but I guess cold cases weren't left anymore. They could've changed some of those. This time, Jae Han could've died on the future, February 5. So this means Hae Young still has the walkie talkie until February 5, 2015.

Fourth transmission- this time, they were able to solve everything. Jae Han knew that they will be able to catch the real culprit in the future (2015) so he hid in that hospital. No more cold cases, because I guess they never gave up on it on the third transmission so the only thing left is the real case. Jae Han hid in that hospital for 15 years. He waited because he knew that would be the right time to end everything. Remember in the 2nd transmission, he was warned not to go in that old hospital but he went anyway with his team. He used that method to Hae Young and Detective Cha by warning them so that could mean that the two also brought back up with them. Since he did not die anymore, Hae Young doesn't have the walkie talkie but I guess they have a new way of communication. How could Jae Han knows Cha Soo Hyun's number? That could've happened on the third transmission!

The confusing part is the lighting of walkie talkie again. Remember when they prevented him from dying during the second transmission? His walkie talkie lighted up again but there was no transmission to Hae Young and then he was saved. If you will connect it, he could've died (like I said on the third transmission) on February 5 again (since it lighted up) but there was no transmission to Hae Young so they were able to prevent it during the fourth. So that means they were able to save him that day when those guys went to Jae Han. Idk if I made it clear hahaha but they ended it.

The story has been captivating from the beginning and I loved that I didn't know any of the actors until this drama and they all blew me away. The cold cases were intriguing and heartbreaking to learn that some happened in real life and were similarly influenced by corruption and power. One of the best dramas but the ending makes it feel like a waste of time. The problem that you have with time travel dramas is that it becomes difficult for the plot to remain organized. I wish that the story was completed. Now because of the final scene, it feels like we spent the entire time watching a "past story". Showing Jae Han in the hospital basically means he was just waiting for Hae Young and Soo Hyun to catch up to him. Then they show that he still has the radio which means that he is talking to someone even more into the future. It's really messy. How do we know these aren't time loops that happen again and again? Where is the "real" present time? The drama is fun to watch but it feels like a waste of time because you don't know what point in time you are watching. For 15 episodes you think you are following Hae Young but in episode 16 you learn that all that was just the past and Jae Han has been in a hospital waiting. ahhh so confusing.

The first story may have been inspired by 2003 death of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted and found murdered in city of Pochon, one of the cold cases for which the statue of limitations was amended.

Cha's age so... use her mother's comment that she'll be eligible for pension in 1 year (i.e. she's worked for the police force for approximately 19 years given the special occupation pension system for government employees in Korea) and the standard training (~8 mo. at the time), the fact that she couldn't drive at the start of the series and is suggested to be in her first career, that will put her joining the police force sometime between 18 (legal age) and 20, likely closer to 18, training (so let's add 8 months) so ~19-21 and add 19 years. So in 2015 she's probably about 38-40, possibly 37. I'd go with 37 simply because her mom seemed so pleased that Lt. Park was 27. Also, the series seems to want to keep her within the gap between Lee and Park, so that would balance it nicely given we have 86 as a year in which Lee is the lowest rank he's shown as in the series, so she's probably about halfway between the two, and Lee would likely have been between 49 and 53 in 2015. What do you think?

Sure, you may be disappointed with the ending but I think the ending was so open that they knew there HAS to be a season2. I know its very unlikely but you never know ??‍♀️ Besides that, the drama itself was so well done and I am so glad it ended up becominwell known as I honestly thought it would be an underrated drama at the time. Every episode had me in tears at one point as the stories were just so tragic and the acting and writing made it so real ?? Personally, the ending was so satisfying for me. Maybe its because I was just so happy that they were alive "in time" I ended up wanting more of course but I was just so happy I finished it smiling because the ending is so open a second season is very possible ??

Lee Je Hoon's second drama that I saw was titled 'Signal'. Incidentally, I really like drama with the mystery genre and detective series. This drama certainly has different genre with "Tomorrow with You". I like this.

Lee Je Hoon plays a very good role. He is cold, smart, and ambitious to solve all the old cases that were not revealed. Starting from he found a walky talky in a garbage truck. Certainly so strange, because even without the battery in it, this walky talky can sound. Uniquely can be connected with the past.

At the end of each episode, this drama made me even more curious. Very well written stories make each episode feel complete and perfect. When this drama ended, I kept saying that this was the best drama I have ever seen! I gave him a perfect score, which is 10!

Kim Hye Soo and Cho Jin Woong also performed stunningly in this drama. Although their age is quite old, they play a very good role. There was nothing wrong with the cast. Everything supports each other to produce extraordinary drama!

This drama does not focus on romance. Although there is a little spice of romance between Kim Hye Soo and Cho Jin Woong, this complements the tense story that is quite tense. Making this drama is a little more sweet and humanistic.

Sometimes I also cry in a few episodes. Strong character, strong story, makes me felt away. I was crying of course. There are several stories that will touch your heart so you can't hold back tears.

Watch this drama. You will like it !!!

At first i got confused on what was going on in the first three episodes but as I kept watching it, i understood what was going on. Im glad that detective is alive but sad that the main leads brother still died. My heart-o-meter literally went up and down with the plot twists. I also really love the cast esp. Cho Jin Woong and Kim Hye-Soo who delivered sterling performances and have moved me to tears in several episodes. Several of the supporting cast and side characters also played their roles really well.

This is a drama not to be missed!

I'm normally one that's not into shows that don't contain many romantic scenes or that are too centered on mysteries, but this one captivated me from the first five minutes to the end. I managed to watch the whole series in 4 days, and even though I missed on sleep, I had no regrets, this is absolutely the best drama series. It's fun to watch with family as well, it's something that seems to be interesting for everyone. I'm really hoping for a season two. I normally don't comment on dramas, but I feel too strongly about this one to not. I highly, highly recommend this to everyone

I get to pause it sometimes when I get really pissed of by the cops when they fail to trust him when he did a big role in the first case. I love how determined Haeyoung is. Sometimes its just confusing when they jump from 2015 to 1989 and vice versa. But so far its good I love tvN's dramas.

I'm looking forward to ship Euikyung with Haeyoung and their scenes together!

I dont know why some people commented there are too many flashbacks, but for me, all the flashbacks are something that I want to see. More important element of this drama are featured in the flashbacks.

Anyway, from episode 1 to 16, all you want from this drama is for Park Hae Young & Lee Jae Han to stay alive.

I love everything bout this kdrama and it's so well written. because of this drama, i came to be really intrigued in unsolved murders and violent crimes. I'm a huge fan of crime-solving dramas that involves detectives doing their jobs and Signal is a good example. For all of you who wants to watch the real crime drama, I'd recommend this one. Although this drama doesn't have romantic plot (just a little bit in some scenes), this will keep you on the edge of your seat! I agree with other reviewers, I demand a season two as well!

The plot is novel and the characters are dynamic which makes me glue my eyes to the screen. I would be incredibly sad if they didn't make a epilogue or a sequel continuing the plot. The ending is amazing and wraps up this drama perfectly (unlike most endings) but THEY CAN'T JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT. Honestly, this series should be continued forever (and hopefully with the same characters).

I like the back-forward timeline among the main characters, as someone who enjoy cop, crime, detective stories, signal manages to portray how a profiler and detective work together, plus the time travel element adds the "goodness" of the drama.. Hmm watching this drama makes me think cause lots of retired high level cops in my country have lots of power, assets, and can even run as candidate for governor etc, that highly unlikely covered by salary even through they have high rank, so lots kim bum joo here i guess.. Anyway, really enjoy signal, one of the best kdramas, id put it up along with misaeng, another great one. The ending indicates that it might have season 2 but i like open ending, already think of one but im too lazy to write it.. Hint: jae han's dad ticket (subway/bus)

I am on the edge of my seat every time as the plot is reaaaaalllyyyy unpredictable; and I keep on watching episode per episode that I finished the whole series in a day! Until now, I kept thinking about it. Brilliant storytelling + great acting. Signal is a masterpiece. I always recommend this drama to my friends, it was worth watching. Definitely on my top 5 kdramas of all time.

The story is freakin well made, supported by great acting by the actors. Hell, this is gonna be my second best drama of all time. The first be it's okay that's love, and the third is reply series (88, 97, 94).. I'm gonna having a hard time forgetting this drama for a while and craving for a season 2. Ugh i hope time flies super fast >-<

Signa sets the bar high enough to even try to consider other drama that don't meet the same expectations. Let's begin with the acting, well everything was on point cops, killers, victims and even witnesses. I particularly liked how Choi Jin Woong played the role of Lee Jae Han, it was impossible to not feel attach to his charisma. Lee Je Hoon and Kim Hye Soon were also awesomely good. I was also surprised by how well put the directing was. Episode 11 gave me hella chills.The writers also did an incredible job, though I have a couple questions lefts Spoiler alert** So if Lee Jae Han successfully changed the past by revealing the truth behind the Insoo case and the murder of the little girl, this means that the unit special case were never created and the law preventing statute of limitations in murder were never enacted as well. So what does this mean to the crimes that were supposed to be solved in the present by the special unit case? I'm talking of the Hwaesong murder ? What about the real culprit of the rapists case? Did they get to be arrested ? What the ending tells us ?

Overall a great drama, wish this would get more recognition from the public cause I really want to see a season 2.

now onto the review. first, the actors. lee jaehoon is good, but tbh he is a bit lacking in emotional scene. esp when detective cha died for a while or when thinking about his brother, his sadness doesn't really touch my heart and somewhat over the top, kinda reminds me of lee junki. but he gets whole lot better in second half and overall portrayed the character well. kim hyesoo is also great. she always had that charisma so her character totally suits her, but nothing really memorable about her acting or character, until something after midway. kinda awkward playing young rookie but totally knock it off as mature detective cha. and of course, my biggest applause would be for cho jinwoong and jang hyunsung. both really played their characters well and their actings shine through every scene. jang hyunsung really scared me without saying much. his fake smile, his glance, omg he's really evil! can't believe he's the same man who is a father of two handsome young sons xD and cho jinwoong.... why did i sleep on this talent all this time? his potrayal of clumsy yet idealistic lee jaehan is totally spot on. he just made me root for his character.

and though the acting is impecable, i think the directing and writing here are the ones who play the vital role. i like how smoothly they went from past to current timeline and how carefully they put the details. of course seeing reply series, we know how good tvn pds with retro setting and they probably have the default setting for all their dramas lol, but it's still amazing to see for me. the writing is also tight and i can only say "wow" with every turnout. it's something i've predicted but it still made me sighed in disbelief because they reveal it so theatrically (?) that i still shouted "daebak!" everytime lol. the pace is perfect, like how they put some lil bits of lee jaehan-cha soohyun for relief from all the tension.

overall, best kdrama i've watched in a while. thank you tvn!

acting: 8/10, writing: 9/10, directing: 8.5/10. overall: 8.5/10.

May Apr 14 2016 9:35 am I just finished watching this series in less than 2 days! I was hooked. i watched it non-stop.

the idea for the story is similar to that of the movie Frequency, but this is really well-done,and unique from that one.

the pacing for the story is great. the plot is well-written. you think something is going to happen and then they pull a 180 on you. It keeps you coming back for more. The lead actors and the supporting actors did a phenomenal job. They were all fantastic.

my only issue was with the open ended final episode. if they come back with a season 2, then great! but if they don't... then the ending is a bit of a let down. I would have rather preferred it if they just ended it with 1 season. But i understand from the character standpoint why ending it there wouldn't be true to the main character's personality. And I applaud the scriptwriters and their decision to go in that direction.

peterh16 Apr 14 2016 7:15 am One thing annoys me though is when culture and religion gets in the way of the story line. They employ the concept of time communication so this series is the realm of Science Fiction. Yet koreans or Asians for the matter tend to not want to change the timeline. I think its obvious if a you stumble upon a time communication then its begging for the timeline to be change. Yet why be afraid to change it like the protagonist in this series. because of religious and traditional philosophies interfere, that asian countries have no business is doing sci fi series.

Sci fi explores all scientific theories, one being multiple timelines. There is no linear timeline, the concept of time and space go in multiple dimensions and not singular.

So please Kdrama don't mix Asian philosophies and sci fi mix because they can't. (referring to you Chinese time series) Apparently they are forbidden in their society to make time travel series that changes chinese history as they believe in Destiny being set in stone, but have the audacity to mix @$#$# Destiny philosophy with Sci Fi which is opposite of time be set in stone but is always in continuous flux.

peterh Apr 13 2016 11:07 am I decided to give this series a go since its a copy of hollywood film called Frequency where a fireman communicates with his son in the future who is a cop to catch a serial pyro. As the father is a fireman and dies in the past. I guess the they got idea from that as TVN is a associate of Fox international.

This show is as thrilling as the movie, and unique in its own way.

LEMON Mar 30 2016 3:06 pm I have to admit that even though this drama is one of the most memorable ones out there, it was not until the last case that got me hooked onto it. The storyline escalated drastically and the best part of it was how realistic the storyline was by bringing corruption and whatnot into play. As for the acting, everyone did a really good job playing their role, but the most notable actor was definitely Lee Jaehan in the drama. I know a lot of viewers are hoping there will be a season 2, but I personally hope there is no sequel because (1) I like the ending since it allows the viewers to believe what they want to believe and (2) a second season for dramas tend to ruin things. Last but not least, I finally realize why the actor who plays Sunwoo is so familiar! It has only been five years since "Can You Hear My Heart" came out, but he has grown so much in such a short period of time.

The best open ending ever!!! For others who are not satisfied with the ending, I can say that the writer and the director are obviously aiming for a Second Season that's why they ended it that way. It wasn't 'bad' just unsatisfying after staying with the intricate plotting for so long. Such a brilliant series deserved better--and so did the viewers.

Sharalyn Mar 24 2016 5:10 pm In science fiction we are required to have what is called "suspension of disbelief," but in most K-dramas (and I've seen a lot) we're required to suspend disbelief even when it isn't Sci-fi. Most of the time, it's eye-rolling to the breaking point of ridiculous and unrealistic silliness. In SIGNAL, however, we have a Sci-fi/fantasy premise in which suspension of disbelief is absolutely required to make the story about transmission between the past and the future believable. But this series is so well done that disbelief is not just suspended, it is entirely by-passed. We are immediately immersed in the action and we stay there. I kept waiting for the story to break down, but with some forgivable exceptions, it held tight all the way through. As a Sci-fi/fantasy story, it was absolutely excellent, with a premise that clicked together like a solid scientific theory, as in, if it COULD have happened, this is the way it WOULd have happened. The logic was tight and intriguing without losing focus between weeks. The script was good enough that I was not jarred out of it with hoots of derision for sloppy writing, unrealistic characters, and silly dialogue as I often am in other k-dramas. The acting in Signal was wonderful, too, with special kudos to Kim Hye Soo and Cho Jim Won. Their deeply expressive faces helped move story and cement the believability of the script, helping to make the movie not just emotionally moving but even at times inspirational. (Thanks to all for not doing silly overacting.) The music was great, and I particularly enjoyed the opening theme; I wish I knew what it was. I am sorry I don't understand the words, but it's tone fit the tone of the series perfectly--full of loss, timeless longing, but with a meaningful "something" that kept it from being despairing. On all counts--in concept, execution, script-writing, acting, this is one of the best, if not THE best, K-drama I've ever seen. If all k-drama was this good, I'd never escape from the TV.

The story line is seamless, kudos to Writer Kim and I like Director Kim's way of filming, showing the different era with slightly off coloured film, slightly distorted just like how the film were made in the eighties. Very well made, and well done to the entire crew and cast ! This is the first time I am leaving a comment on a drama, and I hope to do so again with more wonderful work from Director Kim and Writer Kim. Looking forward to it.

This drama is hands down the most amazing kdrama I've ever seen and even though this drama did not gain as much international recognition as other comedy dramas, I am so happy that the korean public are enjoying this show. After all, we don't bring in the money, they do. I'm usually not a supporter of kdramas having a season 2, but this is an exception. I feel like the ending is perfect the way it is but a sequel to this would answer all of my questions.

If you are going to do a Law Enforcement and profiling drama please hire some technical advisers. Also, there are so much holes in the drama that its ridiculous. well the premise to start off is ridiculous but the writer should not deviate from its own structure. I will give Korea another 30 years before it get some what a decent drama. In the mean time just stick to romantic comedy where everyone looses their memory and have a three way love triangle.

Definitely one of the best korean dramas aired so far, the entire story line was amazing from the 1st to the last episode, and that's a lot to say because, let's be honest, in most dramas, there will always be those parts that are less interesting than others or even plain boring... There was no such a thing here, it was awesome the whole time, and had me begging for more after each episode!

Loved Loved LOVED Cho Jin-Woong in this series, I don't remember when was the last time that I admired an actor's act so much. He turned 40 just 10 days ago, happy birthday to him!

I strongly recommend it, and hope for a 2nd season too, but the likeliness of it happening is very unfortunately low I would say, the last episode was quite 'final' even if it might have given the false impression to be open at first sight...

It could make me laugh, cry, and emotionally dragged into the storyline. The plot is just fast and it will give us no chance to blink. It's just WOW. I watched 14 episodes in just 3 days. I may say that this drama is 10 out of 10... I used to like You Are All Surrounded but now this drama is on my top list of thriller theme drama. Daebak!

ALL the main characters are AMAZING actors their display of emotions are so real. I wont even start on how intriguing the plot is. Briefly, it is comparable to the series of murders of Hongkong that I watched more than 15 years ago... Yes I cried alot.. I am so worried for Jaehan sunbae in the last two episodes. They (the writers) killed off the only detective that could've put the SCUMBAG Chief of Detectives away. It was not the main vilain the problem but the support of the mafia who can't stand on their own 2 feet alone and WORSE! They're totally aware and dislike not helping the hero.

So no, I don't recommand that serie and also the heroine is totaly laughable and the hero acting like a lone wolf too who because he was disapointed JUST once sweared to to dislike the system forever.

Signal characters are more beleivable instead. The fucking cop in the past is not a lone wolf by choice but mostly because none of the veterans-camarades beleive in him except for the young female rookie who become a totally badass in the present.

Every time, I saw the poor policeman of the past, I've respect toward him and saddness. Respect because even he can't save everyone he trying all his might to do his job! Because he beleives in justice and he is going to taugh it to the hero of the present with the female inspector.

There is no super man in this serie, it's team work that count wich is more beleivable because alone you can't do much (except if the writers are kind wth you) and the policeman of the past kinda represent that.

The story line is extremely predictable, and starts to really drag halfway thru. If you're completely bored, I suppose it's watchable. Personally, I would recommend the new series "Remember", a different genre, but done quite well.

Kudos to the screenwriter who come up with the storyline.. I hope Lee Jong Suk will lead this drama.. It'll be nice to see him in an action-thriller project:)
