Lee Dong-Sik (Shin Ha-Kyun) was once a capable detective. He now works at the Manyang Police Substation in a small city and does all the tedious chores at the station. His life is quiet there. One day, Detective Han Joo-Won (Yeo Jin-Goo) is transferred to the same police substation. He is assigned to work as Lee Dong-Sik’s boss and also his partner. Han Joo-Won is an elite detective and comes from a distinguished background. His father has a good chance of becoming the next chief at the National Police Agency. Han Joo-Won also has a secret.

A serial murder case takes place in the small, peaceful city. The case is the same serial murder case that took place 20 years ago and changed Lee Dong-Sik’s life. The two detectives work to catch the killer.

decided to watch again few days ago & currently at ep 9. still slow-paced & i'm desperate to just speedrun lmao.

i'll continue watching until the end just to know the truth. but i'm never rewatching.

I just watched Worlds Reunited & although the drama itself seemed to be written as each episode was released & the direction & editing didn’t feel right, especially the timing, his character was infectious. The last episode was the best of all TWENTY episodes!

Ulap Dec 15 2024 1:28 pm Okay, so this drama is a bit slow, but it does not mean it is NOT good. It is GREAT! Each episode, someone in the town becomes a suspect in a series of murders, even the main characters. This drama is different than most, an I think this is why it is so good.

They really tried to make dongsik as the psychopath from the very start just to throw us off. I started watching for jingoo. And after stopping i tried watching again for 2nd and 3rd time but i only manged till ep8. There’s not much case at all. However have to admit, the intro and 1st ep was strong but it wend downhill for me as it was too boring. Kudos for those who managed to finish the drama.

Bill Dawson Mar 10 2023 2:55 pm I thoroughly enjoyed watching this show, for the third time now. One of the things I like so much about it is its morality messages. It reminds me somewhat of the film noir shows of the 1940s and 50s where crime doesn't pay. This show has well developed characters, good writing, good acting, and though the subject matter is a bit dark and graphic at times, it isn't gratuitous and is done tastefully. By the conclusion of the show I felt a kinship with the actors. I wish I were sitting with them having some stew in that shop at the end.

The show has a good message for young people, and that's a welcome change from so much of what comes out of Hollywood.

It’s “Hometown ChaChaCha” combined with “Flower of Rvil” and “Reborn Rich”- when you mix these shows together-you get some psychological thriller vibes that turn 16 episodes into what feels like 3! Shin Ha-Kyun won an adware for this and he deserves that and much much more! Impressive actor who combined a sorrowful man mixed in with The Joker. You never quite know what he’s thinking, feeling or going to do! Yep Jin-Goo-I’ve seen this young man in several shows. Loved him in “Hotel De-Luna” -but-his acting and portrayal of his character I. This drama far exceeds anything else Ive seen him in! do! Le Do-Hyun and Choi Chan-Ho portraying the younger characters were excellent! The bad guys were so bad- you never quite know who is good as you suspect everyone at least once. Kudos to Choi Dave-Hoon. His portrayal had me feeling so much empathy that I felt his charcter was real. Every bad guy- every police man -every townsfolk reeled me in. This cast is amazing and the story-based off of a novel was excellent! Highly highly recommend Beyond Evil!!!

Still somehow i can feel joo wan dad is real bad bad cop back then and at present too especially the way he controlled joo won & the way he handle his case. Can feel the bad cop vibes that he got something to do with that weird crazy cop twin sis death in the past. Somehow who the main serial killer did suprise me. Hate the way joowon handle his weird partner but the partner is real weirdo and suspicious. I can feel that he is good & kind the way he handles his cases regarding the mental and elder guy. Still He got sinister smile and scary laughter.Still it cant change the fact that he is kinda crazy and strange. To be fair he can b crazy he did lost all his beloved family in a way. Overall the 2 leads real good in their character. Storyline Fast pace and dont waste my time.

I was amazed by every single plot twist that I suspected countless characters. The writer must be super smart. Also, the actors, the casting director, and everyone involved in the making, hats off!! I really enjoyed watching the drama. I kinda regret that I've just watched this drama at the end of 2022.

It's a slow burn suspense thriller which demands your attention and patience as we journey together with Lee Dong-Sik and Han Joo-Won to unravel the intricate web that is the plot. Absolutely love and recommend to anyone who enjoys a good whodunit.

Snail Jul 02 2022 4:59 am Wow. Just finished this today and all I can say is that this a must watch drama. Shin Ha Kyun's acting every time he's in the spotlight is really powerful. He always left me in awe. You can see how his eyes were glimmering with anger and power, those eyes describes every emotion he feels all throughout the drama. It's frighteningly wonderful.

Goosebumps are everywhere, really. Love the chemistry of both leads, they're the best. 10/10! Highly recommended.

Shin Ha Kyun thoroughly deserved his award and Yeo Jin-Goo at such a young age was exceptional too but this is a shout out for supporting actor Choi Jin-Ho a vastly underrated/undervalued actor previously described and quite rightly so as a scene stealer in other films and TV series. Normally, identified and described as Kim Woo-Bins horrible dad in The Heirs but in Mrs Cop2, his rapport with and support of actor Kim Bum makes that series well worth watching just for them. In Beyond Evil, Mr Choi played the part of Han Ki-Hwan, the father of Yeo Jin-Goos character. Mr Choi's acting makes you variously detest his character, laugh at him and then ultimately and extremely briefly feel sorry for him.

I’ve seen a lot of murder mystery dramas, but this one far exceeded my expectations. Loved every episode and the actors were outstanding! That was by far some of the best acting I have ever seen. This is certainly a must to see - you won’t be disappointed. Typically, I get pretty bored real fast when watching shows, but nope. Not this one. Not even a little bit. Lots of nail-bitting scenes to feast on so get ready. Thank you to the writer and director for such an amazing series - looking forward to seeing more works from you!

a typical film fan Dec 07 2021 1:33 am The best drama of 2021 so far, and arguably one of the very best Korea has to offer ever. The way the director capture the town of Manyang was very delightful. The vibe it give like a flickering light that refuse to die out pretty much show the spirit of the decaying town in Manyang. Compare the cold and hectic (fast cut editing) vibe the Seoul give in the last 2 episode, this director is a master in capture the essence of the location.

The script is wonderfully done, but what elevates this drama is how all this wonderful ingredients mesh well to make a very solid drama. From the acting, script, sound, and visual, it all mesh well to become a solid unit that is pretty much in Manyang in spirit. It may look mundane and boring to some, but all this ingredients are united as one perfecting each other. If you like films from Coen's and Bong Joon Ho's, give this one a try. It's very much worth it.

i finished this a couple of days ago and can't stop thinking about it. the chemistry of the characters is what really skyrocketed this kdrama into untouchable territory, it was worth bingeing it till 2am lol!

the plot is amazing, intricate, multifaced, gripping and with a hint of a thriller, but not too extreme like Strangers From Hell (another great drama. withdrawal after Be? i recommend you watch this). a perfect noir, multiplied by a thousand thanks to the characters. they were beautifully written but the actors did all the work in bringing them to life and acting out the different twisted kinds of people out there in the world. without a fault, every character is morally grey, and talk about character development arcs! loads of them, with intriguing turns and reveals that made me act a whole theatre play when announced.

of course, i can't talk about this drama without talking about the main characters. they were incredible and they unironically have the best chemistry i've ever seen in any korean movie or show (Yes, better than park minyoung and park seojun. how?!). their dynamic is out of this world, and the actors played their roles perfectly, without ever making their relationship feel awkward, forced or ingenuine. they are amazing and the true backbone of this show. talk out the ideal mix of plot- and character-drive story.

all my love and respect to the writer and the director! this is a perfect kdrama. highly Highly recommend it. watch it with your parents, watch it with your partner, heck watch it by yourself in your bedroom at night with a box of tissues on hand. it deserves all the praise!!

I found this kdrama through this websites .. most of my watch list are based on the comments given in this websites. I just finished it today and I love how much Jin Goo's character grew. And I was in love Shin Ha Kyun's acting here, I had to come because after almost 200 kdramas watched, I had never seen him.

Anyways, overall, I really enjoyed this drama.

dudeeeeeee. Right when Joowon asked Dongsik who he was trying to protect, I thought Dongsik was naming everyone just to mess with him but all along, Dongsik was naming everyone he knew Except the Killer... The Answer Was Right There The Whole Frickin Time Lol! Mindblowing!!! You really need to be sharp with all these clues lol.

Love this show so much and I wish there would be more dramas like this. Made me feel like a detective lol

This show will really make you think with all the clues they laid out. I really appreciate how the directors and writers treated us intelligently. You have to watch the show attentively so that you’d have the full experience and be amazed of it’s brilliance. It has zero plotholes and I wish I could erase my memory of it so I could rewatch it again. Definitely a must watch for every intelligent viewers out there ;)

I really appreciated how they tried to slow down the pace for the first episodes because it was useful in developing a great psychological drama where we just couldn't figure out who the real culprit is until we reach THAT episode. All of my suspicions were wrong in the beginning and I was so surprised but also finally understood all of the clues at the beginning after finding out the real killer. I just loved that I got to work my mind as well as if I'm part of the investigation team lol. The whole drama kept me at the edge of my seat trying to figure out what's next because it's so unpredictable. The whole cast was so good too. And props to Yeo Jingoo for playing Han Joo-Won because I definitely hated his character for being the pretentious rich boy who thinks he knows everything. But it just proves how good he played his character

The cast, plot and everything bout this drama are very high quality hence it totally deserve The Best Drama award! I initially hate the 2 main cast cause of their characters but end up loving their bromance esp in ep15&16 :))

I have always liked Han Jin Goo - from the time I saw him in I Miss You. He is perfect for this role! Well done Jin Goo! Like the actor who plays Jin Goo's dad Choi Jin Ho - from the Heirs. Shin Ha Kyun looks really fit for this role! Another favourite of mine is in this show as well - Cheon Ho-Jin shi!

Also jin goo is really pretty in the second half (bit slick and lifeless at the start I'm afraid). Love the two women in the group, though the show is 90% male. Tiny bit confused with regards to the conclusions they drew around the middle.

First few episodes might get you irritated because the two heroes are not as “heroic” as other drama typically would show, I wasn’t too interested but kept going since this won Baeksang and in my personal opinion, EP-7-8 are the important episodes for you to get hooked up with this drama. and I don’t regret at all.

Shin Hakyun was made for the character Lee Dongsik, however YJG acting here was kinda mediocre as compared to his other drama but overall every single cast made a very good job here. Special shoutout to Choi Daehoon for brilliantly portraying us Park Jungjae, I became a fan.

I would give 9/10.

Now for a little bit critic. I wish they made the last two episodes more intense because I find it mediocre somehow? They shouldn’t go far with the back-to-back villain story, it was repetitive. I was hoping they would focus more on the Manyang residence and the victims of the serial killer. But I kinda get that the director split the drama into two: First 8 episodes focusing on Lee Dongsik while the last 8 episodes was more of Han Joowon so yes overall it was a spectacular drama.

Dual characters portrayed by different actors are present in the story but shin ha kyun caught my attention. His character is hard to read. But the story line... I kinda guessed it but honestly got a little confused during development of the story. Yeo jin go, is yeo jin go. He is good, i hope he get complex characters in the future.

If you are like me who want to watch light, romcom dramas, look for another drama. I did not binge watch this one but it is still good, it just drains a lot of my energy

For all the haters saying they don’t like Dongsik and can’t understand why he acted that way, listen up.

When he first witnessed Kang Min Ah’s severed fingers, that’s when he knew that the killer the whole time was JinMook. This revelation would’ve been shocking to him since he never would have expected that someone he treats like a brother had killed people mercilessly, especially his twin sister. Furthermore, even if he was in such shock, realizing that the girl he loved like a daughter could’ve possibly been killed, he tried to keep his composure and tried to think of what he could do. He knew that without any evidence, he couldn’t have gotten Jin Mook arrested.

First of all, he was the first witness so that would already put him under suspicion. Secondly, he couldn’t find Min Ah’s body anywhere so there wouldn’t be much evidence to help the case. Thirdly, people would’ve suspected him either way since he was also the prime suspect of the killings 21 years ago. And lastly, who would the people believe more, the weak and docile father, or the crazy cop branded as a suspect for 21 years?

If he tried to take action right away without any evidence, all of the blame would’ve been placed on him either way. If he did report it immediately, he would’ve been arrested and Jin Mook would be free, ready to kill another innocent victim. This is why he had no choice but to take the fingers and plant them right outside Jin Mook’s store so that all the attention would be put unto this case. Moreover, he is quite cunning for him to bait Han Juwon so that he could help solve the case.

Dong Sik is a complex character but if you actually try to finish the drama instead of whine in the comment section of how “awful” or “annoying” he is, you’d actually get to understand him. If you actually watch the drama, you just can’t help but love and root for Dong Sik... Props to Shin Ha-Kyun for acting so well. He really deserved the award for best actor.

I literally couldn't find any plotholes because that's how good their screenplay is. Every scene is important and is riddled with many clues for you to realize their importance as the drama goes on. Furthermore, the pacing is so good because it allows this tension and suspense to build up and make the viewers doubt all of their suspicions LOL. All the characters were utilized and developed quite well throughout the whole story with such an amazing cast. The whole cast was so good that I couldn't help but love them all even if I knew they were the bad guys. I've watched all of the Best Actor nominees' dramas and among all of them, Shin Ha-Kyun really was the best for me. He flawlessly portrayed Dongsik's funny side, sorrow, fury, kindness, and determination.

If I could, I would give this a rating higher than 100! I totally recommend this drama and hope you'll enjoy this rollercoaster ride of a great drama as well!

not confused anymore Apr 25 2021 9:32 am Because hell the story keeps going when you feel like its gonna stop by adding so much plot that you are sure that they won't be able to cover them all, but then they turned all tables and have you speechless by the end of the drama. No Plothole Is Even Detected, I Repeat, No Plothole Can Be Detected. Every backstories are related to each other so perfectly you would think it's impossible for them to do it so logically but they did, so have my respect, production team. This drama will have you feel every emotion you might have not even felt before. Just name it; respect, intrigue, suspense, relieve, regret, nostalgic, scared, thrill, gore; you can feel it. They also highlight the importance of friendship, partnership, work ethics, family relation (even the bad guys love their children), the importance of letting go and moving on, the importance of making rational judgement and many more I can't list. Plus the cinematography is also notable, especially the scenes where they had flashback about the actual crime and the scene where Dongsik found what happened to Minjung. The level of acting, I don't really need to say it out loud, but you can literally find no flaws from the actors. And watching them acting does not feel like you're watching the drama but instead, you're actually reliving the scenes. It's gonna be a full fledge report from now on so you might wanna skip my ramblings. It's time for every breakdown of the notable characters backstory/characteristics. Lee Dong Sik: His sense of justice is very respectable despite his crazy ways to solve something. Also the pure relationship he had with his sister to the point of he won't stop seeking the truth for her is so admirable. Like, it's hard to find a drama where siblings actually love each other. I even thought he would despise his sister as she was the golden child for being talented and smart where he was the 'just messing around' child, but he actually rooted for his sister. Plus, his patience is just on another level yo 21 years of waiting just to solve something? Can't relate. Han Ju Won: Can I just say he is freaking flawless what the heck Yeo Jin Goo, drop your skincare routine! Anyway, he is the type that believe he would survive on his own but at some point realize that he need others' help too. His sense of justice too is very reputable. I just wish all police officers and detectives in real life live with the same principle as him. He's cunning and at some point, you would want to get inside the screen to smack him because of his ways, but then he just want to do his best to seek the truth as he failed his task faultily before. Oh Ji Hwa: Love This Badass Girl. She is the only one who can make Lee Chang Jin bow down and that is so regal for me lol. She's also one of the police officer that has firm integrity. Suspect is still a suspect even though she's best friends with them and that earned my respect. Park Jeong Jae: I just wanna say he has hella patience for his momma lmao. If my mom is like that, she'll no longer heard from me the moment I turn 18 but to each their own. Don't wanna spoil too much, but it's not really his fault because I really believe he can't remember anything because of the meds he took. I wanna ramble more but I'm sleepy so yeah watch this drama and you'll never want to step on the outside world again lol jkjk. 100/10

The difference is that Beyond Evil focuses not on who did te crime but the psychological make up of each individual befoe, during and after the crime/s. As much as it appears that the conflict has been solved right at the 1st half of the drama, think again. This isn't it. I won't spoil it for you but the 2nd half only gets better. I've actually never seen a psychological thriller this good. The delivery/storytelling is ex excellent. Plus all the factors needed for a drama to become powerful like acting(outstanding!), cinematography, music.. Everything. What ultimately captured my interest is that, the drama didn't force anything to happen..it flowed naturally from episode to episode. Even the powerful character development of HanJooWon was done marvelously. The sympathy of the viewers shifted willfully from DongSik to JooWon. The events slowly but impactfully delivered a punch, a twist and a deep dive from a tenseful climax to an amazing resolution. Nothing was left untied. 15 episodes of cliffhangers ended with a loud sigh of relief..a wonderful feeling of satisfaction. Which nowadays are hard to find. To those just started. Watch out for clues and there are tons of meanings underneath those smirks/smiles/glares and glances..you just need to put yourselves in each of their shoes. ?

Yu Yeon's fingers were found as a sign that he hid yu yeon somewhere very close (the wall)

so first off i have seen a lot of different kdramas of different genres in these years but in case of psychological thrillers/crime/murder dramas i personally feel that Korea is the best, and BE is no different.

I'll be very honest, first episode wasn't really that interesting as it was only setting up the base of a truckload of suspense in the coming episodes, and i'm glad i gave it a chance beyond the first two episodes.

As the plot begins to take off, i was at the edge of my seat because with this drama, you cannot predict much, there are so many twists and shocking events that'll leave you flabbergasted and wanting for more.

The plot is a heavy one which will make you confused but in the end everything pans out smoothly- one of the best portions of the drama, and this one has very less loopholes which can be ignored. All in all, the drama has no extra unwanted emotions, everything is to the point and precise.

What makes this drama all the more exciting is its stellar cast like Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo Jin-goo who do absolute justice to their role and manage to keep one engaged deeply into the drama.

The script, the setting, the direction, the cast everything is on spot, this is by far one of the best dramas of 2021 that will make you delve deep into the thriller and honestly i never rewatch any dramas but with this one i just might!

Yu Yeon was supposed to die anyway, whether by Jin Mook or Gi Hwan. If the former happened, I don't know for sure what the outcome would have been. But one thing is for sure that if Jin Mook got caught in the alternate story, Gi Hwan and Chang Jin would have conspired to kill him just like what happened in this drama. Why? Well if you have been paying attention, Jin Mook wasn't indicted as he committed s*icide, which made the redevelopment project go on. So even in an alternate storyline, Gi Hwan and Chang Jin would have become the bad guys. And to answer another question of why Ju Won was so adamant at finding the killer would be because of his strong sense of justice, also solving such serial m*rder case will make people give him more importance than just being the Commissioner's son. Dong Sik also committed a crime by removing the fingers to bring overflowing attention to the case just because he couldn't find the body. So he got punished for that justly. Overall, the drama was so simple yet so intriguing, I felt sad when it was ending... I hope that we can see more drama like this instead of excessive plot twists that don't lead anywhere.

irene Apr 14 2021 5:24 pm it was pretty boring ngl. it was good up until ep. 8 and it wall went downhill then. there were several plots to this which made it confusing and not all the questions were answered. the leading casts were both annoying and ignorant. and i still don't understand what the victims has got to do with Han Ju Won and why he wanted to catch the criminal so bad that he blamed Lee Dong Sik most of the time. overall: 3/10 maybe if i watched it as my on goings i wouldn't be as bored.. i only stayed to see more of nam yoon su (Oh Ji-hoon). i'd definitely wouldn't recommend it :/

In the flashback scenes where they showed his MO, you can see that she was sitting with him in some sort of truck (?) and she received a text or something, so he grabbed her phone and got angry then killed her (for the whole prostitute reason related to his ex-wife). She was working as a prostitute and that's how he met her (since she knew Hyemi and he was looking for Hyemi, his ex-wife).

With the risk that I may attract negative comments after this, I must say DS was the worst cop ever. Neither always his watery eyes nor his sympathy for weak people can erase the stupidity for doing nothing when he should have done. I have zero compassion for him. Overall, it was a good drama but with an awful character for my taste, DS.

Never believe random haters/comments like sf, because this drama is god-tier in all aspects. Everyone did great, including Choi Sung Eun and most especially Shin Ha Kyun- he deserves the Daesang. I only watched this because of Yeo Jin Goo but what a treat this was. I discovered new actors, learned lessons with the script and was completely amazed by the brilliance of PD Sim Na Yeon. I loved her previous work At Eighteen, her execution of scenes with Beyond Evil is an eye candy for film students/enthusiasts.

Choi Dae Hoon was also a revelation, I've seen him in multiple dramas as an annoying side character. In BE, he was given the chance to shine. The man can act.

I hope they all win awards. Thank you for bringing this drama to life.

This drama is a psychological thriller and not just a police procedural drama. Usually this kind of drama explores moral conflict not only of the villain but also the main leads. The main leads does not necessarily have to be the good guy. In the end, they can actually be the main villain.

From a Soompi article: “Beyond Evil” is a psychological thriller starring Yeo Jin Goo and Shin Ha Kyun as two men who are willing to break the rules and the law in their pursuit of a serial killer. The drama asks, “Who is the monster? Is it you? Is it me? Is it us?”

If you are disappointed that the main leads are not your usual morally upright hero who just wants to catch the bad guy and fight for justice, then this drama is definitely not for you. Basing on the synopsis of the drama, the director and the writer intentionally made the main leads to be morally grey. Actually all the characters are morally grey. There's definitely a serial killer, JinMook, and might be another one. Some of the characters might not be necessarily be the serial killer, but each one of them could be "monsters" because their action or inaction caused them to contribute to the crime to not be solved.

I realized that the people in Manyang does not necessarily blindly trust each other because they are from the same town. Each one of them has a secret that they don't want other to discover that's why they don't probe each other that much. They only start to question other people and volunteer information, once their own secret has been discovered. They'd rather keep quiet if it means that they won't be implicated.

Her autopsy shows she was ran over multiple times which result in multiple fractures, the first hit was when she was standing, that first hit killed her, park Jung-je ran over her again when she was on the ground. I think dong-sik realizes that he probably didn't kill her when park Jung-je confesses that "I killed her, I ran over yu-yeon when she was passed out on the street". Then who was the one ran over her when she was standing facing the car? for that reason dong-sik lets park Jung-je go, he needs to find out the one ran over his sister and left her on the road like that. This drama is very good.

They are not shown to be “ideal” or “perfect”, they are shown to be broken and vulnerable with much room for developments, they are shown to be “human”; which I think a lot of dramas lack (but also noticed how recent dramas are trying to incorporate this). The writer and director are very effective in showing multidimensional characters and that adds so much more depth to the story. Also, the way this drama portrays their “humanity” sets them apart and takes them a notch above other series with similar premises.

Many time working alone, he found important points for his investigation. Many times he was the first one who investigated something and only after that, appeared in the same place DS too. I see that nobody cares that he is young and has less experience than DS, but he manages to discover different hidden things about someone or something which lead him to learn other things. Someone said here that he has rushed without thinking to where the butcher girl was but without count the fact that JW didn't have the information that DS had. So, in this case, why blame JW? Anyway, in this drama, my favourite character is JW. About DS, is or because of the character or because of the actor's playing style or both, but I have a feeling of rejection for him. For the first time since the beginning of the drama, I heard DS named JW as his partner. Big surprise.

I can actually see a bit of HJW in you, with your righteous and know-it-all tone, you think you're so right even though you're not seeing the bigger picture.

First of all, I wasn't defending DS, even I didn't like how he never told anyone about anything but that's understandable because he was suspicious of everyone with the whole "possible accomplice" and "not wanting other people to be involved" and maybe "if other people knew, things would backfire". I wasn't even trying to defend that he didn't wanna get caught (because it was so obvious in the drama that he couldn't care less), I just wanted you to see the different Possible Perspectives as to why the scene went that way (not for DS but for what the writer might want the viewers to think/what the viewers themselves would think without caring about the writer) - with DS failing to "preserve the crime scene" which was the whole point of your dissatisfaction.

It's funny because the way you explained DS's actions as to what the writer was trying to show people of how "careless actions can cause an innocent's death" is actually a product of genius writing and directing...and you just don't want to admit that, the very point of this drama is showing how limited and vulnerable we humans are when faced with incredulous situations; this is not solely a "crime" drama, it's a "psychological thriller", the "careless actions resulting to a person's death" fits this drama more than "perfectly solving the crime" which is unrealistic if you ask me unless you can read minds or talk to the dead victims.

Indeed, JM didn't expect anyone to come which was why the fingers were still in the basement but a sheet of plastic was used to cover up the table and possibly floor before he chopped MJ's fingers and I think that same plastic was the same one used to wrap MJ's body before placing her underground...I don't think JM would be any more careless since the whole possibility of searching his house after a few days if people would discover that MJ went missing is pretty high. Also, didn't you remember how the judge believed DS's previous partners ongoing case that the victim had a "nosebleed" in the suspect's car? How much more having an accident in your own basement?

DS did what he did because "he" believes JM couldn't be indicated with just how everything was unfolding, JM could easily claim it was not him who did that: "how could I to my own daughter?" and act all mentally incapable of doing so and all.

I'm pointing out Possible Scenarios that could be used to explain the situation regarding DS's actions....I'm sorry if it came out as "rude" because of how I used capslock but those were just logically possible reasons which I wanted to point out and highlight, not to defend DS and his actions but for those claiming that what he did made no sense because Given The Situation he was in, his actions Did make sense. I'm not saying his actions were right, but his actions were reasonable Given The Situation, His Previous Experiences, and the State Of Mind he was in...all the more his actions made sense because he didn't care if he was caught breaking the law, just as long as the real culprit will go down with him.

Again, I'm not attacking you for disliking DS's character, why would I even care about who you like or not like? I'm commenting because as someone who also wants to be sensible in watching dramas (and not just be blinded by emotions about liking the actor or shallow melodramatic plot that touches the heart), I wanted to defend how the writer decided with the direction of the plot because it fits the whole premise of their goal/story and I think you missed that. That's why I wanted to point these all out for you to see that maybe you are wearing the wrong lens when watching this drama.

I don't want such a minor thing to affect other viewers' opinion of the drama because this drama, again, is a masterpiece...and although I'm not stopping you with your critiques, because again that means you're taking the drama seriously (which is good), but I won't stand by when it would seem like a misinterpretation or misunderstanding.

I actually enjoy discussions, not arguments. It would be great if we can continue dissecting the drama because this drama is worth that effort, but I think we got off on the wrong foot. Have a great day.

This person probably has access to the police records and CCTV.. sooo..

Tim Mar 20 2021 10:42 pm wow, I really don't like Han joo-won character at all, he is very egotistic and self center, like a kid who got his candy taken away and throwing a tantrum. he think he is so smart and no-one is smart enough to be his partner so he rather be alone but in fact he's just young and inexperience as a detective. he confessed that he carried out a sting operation while using the immigrant lady as a bait and resulted in her dead and he asked to be punished, but in episode 10 he just repeating the same mistake (2nd sting operation) again by using chef Nam as bait and he ending up dead as well, HJW just never learn his lesson. Dong-sik on the other hand seems ignorance but very caring, he wants to be alone because of the incident with his pervious partner, he couldn't protect his partner and the young detective died, that leave a scar so he is afraid if he gets another partner he won't be able to protect his partner. Dong-sik is smart and he investigates differently, he sure knows how to use his brain. Finding min-lung's fingers is probably just luck and he is happened to be there at the right place and the right time, but what he did after that was carefully plan. looks like there are 2 killers, one is jin-mook who kill thither girls and one is an unknown killer who killed the sister, there are a few people who know the person including chef Nam and jin-mook, this unknown killer killed the sister and cut her finger tips so he is a copycat, but jin-mook is the one hid her in the wall. Killers don't point fingers at each other since both will get arrested. copycat killer probably is someone in the police force or having a connection to be able to get that death certificate to give it to give it to jin-mook. her death probably related to the development of the town. things are getting complicated, but I do like the development, so will continue watching. Mouse is a good drama too.

Dongshik's only flaw in this story is he's too secretive.. he never says anything at all. He keeps covering up for other people. He doesn't look like an expert at all. He just keep blaming on person over and over again. Is he even a detective?

no Mar 17 2021 5:13 pm The kdrama universe is really giving the serial killer story obsessed girlies (me) what they want this season :') Between this show and Mouse, I'm living rn... this show has more suspense, and a more real feel while Mouse is a bit more fast paced/exciting. Beyond evil definitely takes the cake for me tho

Dongshik Lover haha Mar 16 2021 2:08 am When I first watched this, I liked the character Dongshik, I always thought positively about what was suspicious of him. but when I saw the end of episode 2 he put the fingers of the minjung in front of Jinmook's house. I was very shocked and started to hate the character, along with the episodes many of his behavior made me dizzy, and it made me confused about the character. what he wants. but when Jinmook got suspicious I started liking DOngshik again. I feel sorry to see him. he desperately wanted to find his sister's body

and why people doubt with Yeo jin goo acting as HJW, i like how he show his expression as HJW while pointing out/calling out people of manyang.. yeah some of his reasoning are purely to his emotion(?) but you can see how episode 7 end ahhh that was frikin cool

anyway people should watch this!!!

Just a little continued comment from mr theory Mar 14 2021 3:34 am For both of the main characters, Dong sik is a nut guy and he's keeping his sanity using his determined feeling to cath the physco. So I really love his character, I dont get easily fond of aged actor but Shin Ha kyun ajjushi did really good job!!! Honestly, I like his face when he go nut cause he filled it up with emotion lol. It means he potrayed dongsik very well. For Joo woon, I love him too even many of people said that his way for cathcing the criminal is bad/not pro, I think it's his own way to work thats why he also involved in success finding the killer. Im not telling ppl to agree with my thinking about him, but he has his own cool way tho. (Dont hate me lol). Time by time Dong sik change Joowoon perception and thats what make them good partner.

It could be that the truth is Jin mook really not the one who killed dongsik's sister but somebody who is near dongsik and keep watching him. But it's just my assume cause its likely that jin mook die (I hope not he need to get haevy punished). Overall, this drama is SO GREAT! All characters is connected by each other even I don't like the story of political and development idea but still I love this one. Its sad to see kang min jung died by suffocating (i just short it easy lol), I feel the chill when a person get confined in a plastic and alive ughh its so teribble. But then that's what keeping this drama great to look forward tho.

From something feels boring to something really heartbreaking, I hope the next half still has something to unveil and better story, usually drama will go down after first half finished, so please don't let us down with this one.

But to my surprise after watching the latest episodes it was more than that. If you’re planning to watch, definitely recommend. Plus actors are just chef’s kiss.

hihihello Mar 13 2021 9:05 am I am pretty sure there must be a reason why Dong Sik acts this way (like knowing everything but don't really do anything/such). Keep in mind that KJM might not be the real murderer, we can't be 100% sure even if the latest episodes kinda point out to him. Not sure about Jeong Je but I feel he's very suspicious and more truth to be revealed about him.

At this point, there are a lot of mysteries that are not yet been answered. I really hope that this drama doesn't disappoint throughout the episodes because it's getting interesting.

Sakaru Mar 13 2021 6:59 am Ok first off all who are saying that the characters are ignorant and not righteous police officers , understand that this area which they are working in has never had a serious case for 20 years so obviously they were not so devoted or were lethargic until Kang Min Jung became the victim which drove them emotionally and they are trying their best but obviously their experience lacks due to the lack of cases . So stop being so serious about this and just enjoy the mystery it builds up

Arrogant, individualist, sarcastic, secretive, uncooperative and dictatorial with his new partner trying to block or minimized every action and effort of his. He is the quintessence of that terrible police station's workers. One more stupid and inefficient than others. However, the writer is trying to transform him into a victim when the best move would be to give him a kick in the ass. The only one who is trying to move something in that lethargic police station is Han Joo-Won. How can we expect these policemen to solve any case when they are siblings or friends with a lot of people from that town or regular customers of a store? Automatically they are tempted to eliminate all these people from the circle of suspects. Only because of luck, not because they were clever, one of the criminals was discovered.

WNDR Mar 12 2021 9:30 am So, I'm not sure if anyone else also thinks this, but there's got to be a connection between Han Joo-Won and Lee Joo-Yeon (Dong Sik's sister) because he's just way too interested and devoted to this case. Also, he specifically asked to transferred to that police station.

He's too emotional about the whole case and it just feels like he's in such a hurry to find the killer to expel his own anger and grief onto someone.

Look forward to future episodes to explain or reveal more.

Mariaaa28 Mar 08 2021 10:13 am The people producing this drama are really smart. They do not have a lot of popular names in the casts except for the leads. Most of the casts do not have a lot of experiences but they are all good. Nice choice there. The one acting as Kang Jin Mook, this is his first kdrama as written in his profile but he's good at portraying his character. The others too. I got goosebumps when Nam Yoon Soo's tone and facial expressions suddenly change while he was talking to Jin Goo when he was washing his car.

sf Mar 07 2021 4:45 am A bunch of incompetent police officers is in that police station! Everybody is hiding information from everybody instead to resolve the crimes their main concerns are to cover up the various suspicious situations of their colleagues. No-one collaborates with anyone.

Her fingers was cutted. how could she text a message to his father. this drama is a lit. it is hard to identify the murderer. Im looking forward to next episode!

As for Yeo Jin Goo, I think his acting not as good as when he was jn Hwayi. I don't know why. But I still have high hopes for the next episodes. As for Shin Ha Kyun, I dislike his acting in Fix You, but I think his acting is much better here. There are some awkward acting, but the emotions and character understanding are pretty good. I expect him to show more in the next eps too. He's so manly... And he suits the character so much

Its true that both of their characters are extremely anoyying. But the story makes so much sense (why the characters are made to be like that).. I enjoy this so far

Mar 06 2021 1:42 pm before i started watching Ep5, something came into my mind and what if KMJ's father is the serial killer because he see's all of his victim(all of them are women) as someone just like his wife who ran away from home. Although my theory is still incomplete, I'm sure that what I am saying now is part of the truth behind the identity of the real culprit.

p.s.: I decided to share my theory because i was cinvinced when i saw the preview for Ep6

Avlov Mar 06 2021 6:37 am Tbh, i dont enjoy the drama. Since episode 1, they dont focus on looking for suspect and evidences. All they have in conversation is offending Joo Woon, challenging him because he is a "city" police officer, and being proud to live in small village and protect each other.

Even the flashback of Dong Sik was suspected 20 years ago doesnt give me any clues. Idk whether tonite's episode will be better or their conversation only goes around in circles.

Both the main characters are annoying me to the bones but the character that Yeo Jin Goo's portraying, being a very doubtful one had annoyed me to another level. However, these reasons are proof that this drama is a good one, for me!

For 20 years, DS has not discovered the culprit, but he despises his partner effort to solves the crimes. I hate the actor for his way to act and DS character too.

If he wants to clears his name and find the truth.. He should coorporate with some friends , who can be trusted rather than work alone and being a sacratis to everyone.

On episode 1, i guess dong sik, park jung je and han ki hwan is the suspect, on episode 2 han jo woon looks so weird and also theres lee chang jin, If theres new suspect on episode 3, im give up.. I'll waiting for the last episode only for know, whos the killer.

I mean.. Flower of evil is different, that series is a masterpiece. meanwhile this one... this has different formula.. this is like watching Hello Monster/ Tunnel/Signal/Voice type of drama without those time travelling shit.

Most of the time, the culprit is always around them.. if its police crime thing, the villain is always the police.. always one of them. I think they just make it seem that lee dong sik is suspicious character ..this series is trying to make us think maybe he's the killer..

usually at the beginning of the series, we are always trick to think like the main lead is the real killer to divert the real one.

i feel like something is off with ... Han Joo-Won..... he seems to see things that aren't there.. and his father send him off somewhere far.. he must have some hidden dark past that his father is afraid that it might ruin things for him...

The craziest and annoying is Lee Dong-Sik I don't know how I will manage to watch this drama seeing him all the time in it? The way the actor is playing DS's character is as annoying as hell. But nobody in that town seems to be mentally sane.

Hence , i used to research Korean dramas after seeing that talented actor. I have something to do ahead , thanks to him i got to know that there are many talented actors in Korea in different fields.
