Susie Mar 24 2025 8:32 pm I love this director's work. The Art Of Nego is one of the best corporate series out of Korea. The music, lighting, background vibe, photography, acting is superb. The gentleness yet political brutally of the situation. I love his gentle style. And Lee JeHoon is divine. Then Romance Is Hagwan... The humanity and realism is outstanding. Director deserves many awards.

Bernadette Reed Oct 12 2024 6:39 am I really enjoyed watching One Spring Night and Something in the Rain (Netflix). Comparing to other K-dramas, Ah Pan-Seok is a good outstanding director. I’m impressed because I am Deaf and the visuals look so real (one or two background errors but that’s normal). I’m not surprised to see some actors/actresses are working for him again (they are so good as well). Kim Eun is a fascinating writer too (I’ll write my comment on her profile). Please carry on directing and train young future directors!

Thank you for taking on these social issues that so often get swept under the rug. As women we are boxed into a corner and sometimes suffocated by what society deems “normal”. This movie gave me hope. Maybe one day you will tackle race discrimination and couples from different racial backgrounds as beautifully as you did in your romantic series.

The biggest thing about this series is that it’s so close to reality. The acting of Jung hae in and Son ye Jin are really unbelievable. You believe it or not am so hooked to the series. Thank you for being so attention to detail oriented on a day to day love story with exceptional screen play and writing. I just can’t get over the dialogues as they are so apt to each and every situation. Thank you for highlighting such realistic problems in day to day life, be it sexual harassment at work, family pressure to the social status. Everything well showcased without a doubt. One sincere request, please I really appreciate your loyalty to your native Korean language but please do the voice dub to English in your next series. Really appreciate it. Thank you sir. Good luck for your future projects. Thank you for bringing the best actors to the whole world. Thank you for showcasing the real gentleman character to the world as a role model.

That scene in One Spring Night, episode 8 when Ji-Ho tells Jeong-In that he loves her and she steps closer to him then shows him the dinosaur sticker on her phone... ohhh! I felt that deep in my belly then I felt butterflies. His way of shooting romance is art, pure art. I get excited when I watch his dramas and I hope he has something new coming soon.

I was extremely captivated by your film “Something in the Rain.” I was so immersed in the story that by episode 14 I could no longer watch it because of the pain in my heart for the characters. I therefore skipped to the end - cheating so that I could go back and finish the film. Actor Jung Hae-in is sensational through his boyish smile, his ability to tease and play, making the light-heartedness joyous. Son Ye Jin lights up a room with her infectious smile. The cast was well chosen in its entirety. Rachael Yamagata’s music was haunting. Wow!! You are a genius! I wish I had the words to convey what you do to your viewer’s psyche. I also loved “One Spring Night” - I will be searching for all of your films. Thank you - Respectfully, Jane Maxsom

FlaSh Jan 07 2021 7:30 pm He knows how to direct, and in a way most k-dramas wouldn't even think of. I agree to say sometimes it's a little bit too much of contemplative moments, but in the end he made the 2 dramas I remember the most not only for their story, but for the way their actors stand out overall and for the quality of their direction: Something in the Rain and Secret Love Affair (this one is the very best in terms of emotion, last episodes are a crying machine).

Can't wait for your next work sir!

Julia Jun 21 2020 1:59 am You are an inspired director, your great talent being mood and perception of emotion. The stand out drama for me was Something in the Rain. I like the way the audience never quite knew if their love could make it in the context of Korean culture. It had amazing depth of feeling, One Spring Night was more wooden and unrealistic but had a similar mood. All the cast were excellently chosen. Jung Hae In and Son Ye Jin are a natural coupling and many of the obstacles they encountered would be a be same anywhere, not so much the age, what is 5 years, but the family background and expectations. Their love felt so real and the sex scenes delicately done, unlike in Western dramas which would have seen them naked and spoiled everything.

I hope we see them together again in an equally quality production. You have perfect touch as a director.

Nadia May 31 2019 4:13 pm Started watching One Spring Night and during the intro I kept saying "this feels like Something in the Rain". Not because of Jung Hae In. It just had a similar feeling. Looked up the director and look who it is! :-) XD.

I like his style. I might seek out more of his work.

MVPM Feb 02 2017 9:47 am Just finished the Grapevine and cannot resist adding my comments. After enduring many K-dramas attempting to learn Korean, I was surprised with the quality, perception, sensitivity and depth of this one. It seems that the whole range of human pretentions is exposed with ease and impartiality. Now, I want to know more about this director and his work, clearly out of the ordinary, not to learn Korean but to learn about life and people. The series evolved at a comfortable pace and did not over use the grotesque eating spectacles that abound in k-dramas -frankly, the only effect they have is to gross me out enough to stop watching. Instead, here the serenity, harmony, beauty, flowers and lightning of the tastefully filmed house contrast with the people's character; every single one of the personages is ugly in some way, in particular, the pregnant girl I found repulsive insight out. It seems that all brands of hypocrisy and treason are explored and all strategies to gain advantage by exploiting trust, fear and ambition are tried by the poor and the rich, the powerful and the weak, the young and the old, the smart and the dim each at the measure of their own capabilities. To capture that with such ease in a popular TV series I find remarkable and for that this director is now a favorite of mine.

Alan Mar 20 2016 12:34 pm My favourite director of kdramas. The stories created with the writer of Hear if through the Grapevine, A Wife's Credentials, and Secret Love Affair are truly genius. They are framed and shot brilliantly and there is no end to metaphor and symbolism in these shows. They truly are works of art and take television drama to a completely different level.

Feeling the emotions with the music was is going to be so unforgettable for me. I really don't knkw what word i can experience to let you all know how, this drema made me feel. min Dec 29 2015 8:24 pm i am a fan of you, i watch secret love affair and fall in love with the way you potret the story. it can end up to be a stupid affair if the director is not as good as you, but you visual it into a beautiful drama. it's like listen a mix of life, classic music and poem. very beautiful.

JH Aug 08 2015 8:11 pm This man is a great artist. I've been so impressed with all of his work. Just watched Grapevine and the first thing I noticed was the music. Then the choice in sets/lighting. Great plot and actors. The welcome message of change is happening everywhere these days. (sad about the ending being cut so obviously but, there is probably a whole drama around that!)

A Wife's Credentials, A Secret Love Affair and Heard It Through the Grapevine have surpassed all other kdramas in nuance, complexity, message and BEAUTY. Now I understand why other kdrama offerings are called "fluff". After finishing SLA, I tried to revisit an old favorite rom-com and it was like eating sawdust! No flavor and even less nutritional substance for the brain. Thank you, An Pan-Seok for making us think, challenging the viewer, and doing it with visual style. (Behind the White Tower is another unforgettable drama!)
