The Crown Prince's wife gave birth to twins, but twins were considered an ominous sign. The twin daughter was supposed to be killed, but her mother begged to save her life. Secretly, the twin daughter is sent out of the palace. A few years later, the twin son Lee Hwi is killed. The Crown Prince's wife hides her twin son's death and brings her twin daughter back to the palace and raises her as Prince Lee Hwi (Park Eun-Bin). Lee Hwi eventually becomes a crown prince, but she is afraid her real identity will be revealed. Because of her secret, Lee Hwi is unable to have anyone close to her. She hides her emotions from others and she makes biting remarks.

Jung Ji-Un (Ro Woon) is Lee Hwi’s teacher. Jung Ji-Un comes from a noble family. He is handsome, smart and an optimist who enjoys life. Crown Prince Lee Hwi develops feeling for Jung Ji-Un.

Amelia Dec 20 2025 1:00 pm I am currently watching and have seen three episodes. It's good but (SPOILER ALERT) there were a few things that should have been explained: how and why did Hwi's mother dies? How does Hyun know Hwi is female. I am guessing these things will be explained in flashbacks in later episodes, but I think there should have been some hints to the viewer. It was a bit confusing.

Laura Aug 30 2025 12:25 pm This is not the best kdrama not the most interesting one but really worthy to watch. Very unique story not the typical clique of girl dressing as a man. Eunbin & child actress really gave life to the crown prince ,I think eunbin is the most successful actress who protrayed as a man yes she looked little feminine but the way she talk walk behave everything is with that king aura and rather masculine . I wish there were more scenes protraying her feminity. Even with the scenes with queen he really acted like a man. Jung Chae yeon really stole the show as the queen who loved the king so dearly, her feminity feelings affection expectations was so evident . She is so beautiful ,I really hope to see her as a lead role in romantic historical drama . And really that child romance was unnecessary for me, it really looked forceful . Really this drama has bl vibes even gl vibes. I usually like first lead but honestly I liked 2nd lead more. I mean of course he is her cousin growing together it ll be awkward for her to get together with him. But honestly male lead's character is not that captivating .Hyun su's performance as angel 2nd lead is amazing . I couldnt get my eyes off him. And Bae Soo bin as villain dad as always he nailed his role so well. Honestly I watched this because of unique plot good acting as individuals chemistry was good but I really didnt enjoyed the romance much here.

And I like park eun bin but for almost first 10 episodes she keep making pouty face. Does it make sense?? Prince, a man keep poutingike that. Andddd I again really like PEB, but the height itself already ridiculous. And wardrobe team, at least dress her in darker color. He already looks like women, then keep wearing soft pastel color, to what to let everyone know he is she??

Next the character of the queen. Why her character is so annoying?? I don't pity her at all & skip her scene.

Erika Jul 08 2025 5:20 pm The first time i watched this, it was only my second or third drama ever. Not counting Squid Game cause that was before i even knew what a kdrama was.

I watched Extraordinary Atty Woo and like most people, i fell for Park Eun Bin so i jumped to watch the next show that had English dubbing with her.

Well first go round, being new to the genre, i was kinda bored and very impatient with the "slow burn". I must have shouted Just Kiss Already at my TV a million times.

I didn't understand the Joseon era, all the side characters looked alike, and i thought Rowoon had on a distracting amount of makeup.

Not to mention the obvious miscasting of Eun Bin in this role. There was not a single masculine quality about her that could be played on. I know a Korean man can be beautiful, just look at the guard Kim Gaon. But Eunbin was also tiny. What they should have done was given the 'prince' a mysterious illness that would have explained his delicate features, no hair, and tiny frame.

Upon my rewatch, 3 years and 200 dramas later, the most important thing i realized over time is how much a difference it makes hearing the actors own voices. I only use subtitles these days and i hate most dubbed things.

Ive say all this to say, as a seasoned kdrama watcher, this gives you everything you could want in a period drama right to the very end. I still believe the prince was miscast based on looks alone but i enjoyed her performance so much it didn't matter. Rowoon is an excellent popstar turned actor. He's def multitalented.

It's one of the most gorgeous dramas ever!

Ji May 23 2025 2:20 am This drama was recommended to me as one of the sageuk with more accurate kingdom behavior and I wasn't disappointed. I love the first 2 episodes too. But starting from the 3rd episode I just lost interest, probably will drop it. Eunbin and Roowon are beautiful, but their scenes together are plain boring. I wouldn't question why people who've seen Lee Hwi didn't think he's a woman. It's just unthinkable. Questioning it could mean treason. Also the real Lee Hwi was really a boy and there hasn't been anything happened to him in the eyes of others. One just doesn't change gender. Current Lee Hwi is just different from others.

Su San Feb 23 2025 4:55 pm Agree with previous comments that this script does NOT deliver. The plot is unrealistic,the tone was very uneven adn many thing the ending was ambiguous.

The costumes and set were beautiful, as was the cinematograhpy and music, the actors were good at playing their parts, but I just couldn't get past the premise of this script.

1. The biggest weakness of this drama is the main character, Park Eun-Bin. I had to keep my suspension of disbelief that anyone would think she is actually a man. Her act as a royalty was also very weak and not charismatic. A lot of times, she avoided eye contact while her subject does the reverse. She doesn't look confident nor believable at all.

2. Script is not realistic: - What kind of genius physician would not realize that she is not a he? She doesn't have adam's apple, her build is slight, she doesn't even have moustache? Like what?? - Tutor's teaching is really sus. I mean, he complimented the crown prince for punching another country's envoy as "the right thing"? does he want wars ? The scholars are sleeping and playing games on the job? It's okay, trust that they love their job, let them be. What? does he want to make her a bad king? - What kind of crazy king would jeopardize a war by sending such a non-diplomatic envoy? - What kind of stupid crown prince would set such a weak bet, passing a test, of which only the tester gets to decide what's the answer? - Halfway through the story the author seems to forget that Rowoon is supposed to be a physician. He got sick and needed the CP to dress his wound a lot of times. - I'm worrying about the palace where everyone can easily eavesdrop everywhere. Like.. no guards? How is anyone gonna be able to keep their secret then? At this point.. i'm just ranting. It really pulls me away from enjoying the show.

Wish I had seen the AsiaWiki ahead of time to help with all of the characters. A beautiful, funny, very clean film. Safe for children to watch with some guidance - parents should read plot to explain to teens watching and know actresses and actors - like the different dynasties. I have fallen in love with South Korean movies. Respectfully ask for more on Netflix - this is really good tv. Thank you so much. Kate Bloodworth

Park Min Aug 22 2023 8:56 am Well, let me tell you, that this drama was a life-changing experience because after enduring its mind-numbingly brilliant writing that clearly must have been penned by a troupe of hyper-intelligent amoebas, I now have an entirely new appreciation for the fine art of cringing. It's not every day you witness such a harmonious symphony of terrible acting, contrived plot devices, and dialogue that would make a robot's attempts at humor seem positively Shakespearean, all neatly packaged in a show that proudly screams a truly modern marvel of disappointment.

I have to keep telling myself its not a true story...but one easily falls in love with this drama. Park Eun-Bin is fast becoming one of my favorite Actresses---She is amazing in The Extrodinary Attorney Yoo. My wife and I started watching the King's Affection without knowing Park was in the starring role. I said to my wife the Crown Prince reminds me a bit of Attorney Woo. I google the Kings Affection and Attorney Woo and its then I confirmed my feelings.

Very well done---Very Eye opening to the way Women and Children and Lower Class were treated and educational about the Class system during that time setting in Korean History.(Sad but true I think)

I love the cast, the cinematography, the OST. If you hesitate to watch just because of some negative comments, just go watch

Barbara Jan 11 2023 12:13 am I love this drama series. I watched it Twice! The actors are fantastic. Bravi Park Eun Bin and Ro Woon. And Bravi All the actors. You did a GREAT job. The English voices have been chosen very well indeed and they stick so well to the characters. There is so much emotional and visual poetry in the love scenes which are heartbreaking. There was a suspence to the last moment! Compliments to the director, the writer, set designer. Thank you all for your Art.

No character development of the lead male actor and acting of the leads is so average.. The lead lady by no mannerisms seems male.. There are so many series far better than this

Patrycja Nov 13 2022 9:46 am Until the mid-20th episode, I was sitting on needles. Incredible emotions and fantastic acting. Show has started with a punch and finished in a similar manner ? Some of the middle episodes were prolonged and draged a bit. They could have shorten the drama by 1 or 2 episodes. I couldn't find any plotholes but most likely there are some. I love the complexity and emotional intertwining of characters. Several love triangles was a very nice trick that made the story authentic and realistic. Also the complexity of leads' realtionship is epic. I love how many people is involved in this relation net. Whether they were negative or positive characters, their acting was great ... and so were the music and costumes *.* All the actors and characters were fantastic and they did a great job but the one who did the most is of course Park Eun Bin aka King aka Dam-I. After Do You Like Brahms I wasn't sure if I want to watch any drama with her again as I totally didn't like any character there but she was here more than excelent in King'd Affection! Creating a drama about a young girl who has create a play and become the Porcelain Crown Prince to survive in the royal palace after her twin brother was murdered was a brilliant idea. Giant congratulations to the writer and producers! This is an amazing drama and I'm happy to convince myself to watch it. King's Affection has an amazing balance between romance and palace politics, intense and calm moments .... I honesty believe that this balance is the key to splendid drama, on top of that you have a chemistry between the leads that makes it top!

The costuming and sets were well done also making a very believable story. Park Eun-Bin is a very accomplished actress. Probably one of the unsung heroes here was the script writer. The adaptation made a very interesting and believable story. Thanks much.

And I still cant move on. Whenever I missed Eun bin I just rewatch this. It was really beautiful and refreshing drama. I actualy want to see more of Eun bin. She is really Great! And rowoom is really cute!

If you are really into Historical drama you should watch this! this is one of the best. Next to Empresski Level ❤️

and also I think this is rowoon's best character and acting. the chemistry of the two is amazing, the story is unique, and also the ost!!! OMG I think the ost makes this drama 100 times better, even I never skipped the intro. I cried a lot towards the end, it's very heartwarming. If you like sageuk dramas and haven't watched it yet, you're missing something.

lava Aug 26 2022 4:20 pm This story can be seen as a tale: somewhere lives a prince, the legitimate heir to the throne, who in order to continue living must not reveal that he is in fact a woman. Condemned at birth, saved by the love of a mother, she lives a life that is not hers. A story very well done, pure fiction, we know little about the historical context and is not encumbered with too complex political intrigues. We remain focused on this man/woman prince/princess who must keep secret the woman behind his clothes of prince. Secret weakening as the duties of the court become more and more pressing. A very beautiful realization, magnificent costumes, natural environments well exploited, a superb light. And a very very great romance, of a great purity with this duality man / woman who brings originality in a genre already well exploited.

Carooooo Aug 23 2022 8:27 am Decided to watch because of Park Eunbin and recommendations of it, and I loved it. I'm not usually a historical drama watcher but this had an interesting plot, unexpected twists, and a couple with great chemistry that kept me curious for the next episode after the next even though it is a bit long. I do think it's worth it <3 new things get revealed almost every episode so no filler in my opinion.

Park Eunbin impressed me even more, the acting isn't cringy at all and she nailed a challenging character. I also came to appreciate Rowoon in this drama as I've only known him for SF9 before. The child actress is also great.

In short, a good amount of drama, romance, and an ending that isn't frustrating. Worth watching

Bad Draggy. Not much happening just lots of swooning. So many cast and characters but they are just tools to the plot A handsome man swooning for the prince, and he never once had any struggles with his sexuality. This is obvious plot point that they wanted to leave out but it’s just awkward. How long do they think they can hide that the prince is a woman? They should have doctors checking the prince’s health every week/month and that would have been a dead giveaway already. But the worst is it’s draggy. Useless scenes that don’t add to the story,

I have watched this four times from start to finish. I often play the music especially no goodbye to love. I appreciated the insight into historic Korean culture as well. Glad the actors won awards. Park Eun bin is killing it, her portrayal as a disguised man is somehow convincing despite the obvious feminine side, also because she doesn't act out of her way to try to be manly. She does have a bit of manly charm (wel, based on standard pretty korean guys) but also very adorable looking as a woman. The only downside is her facade broke instantly of she smiles too much, I mean, the actress is just too cute. I don't like historical dramas bcs of the neverending, convoluted conspiracies but in this drama it's pretty light. They're more focused on slice of life and how the two lead character's relationship develop, which is very adorable and charming. TLDR, watching this drama isn't a waste of time.

The pureness of the lovestory, the comical moments. The strength and the bravery of Lee Hwi ( Park Eun Bin) in the attacks she lead fearlessly this was a serious strong female role!. Tutor Jung Ji un was so loving, courageous, just loved his character. Both Park Eun-Bin & Ro Woon deserved their awards. They were definitely the best couple.Loved the loyalty and friendship of her court at attendants Lady Kim & Eunuch Kong power.

I was really curious to watch this series because to see how will a female play as the as the king in disguise of a male robe. I was really impressed by Park eun bin's acting. She has done a great job here. This was my first time watching a drama of Rawoon. He is tall and cute but I think his acting needs improving. Anyway he is not bad but he need to practice some martial arts because when represeting a character in a historical drama specially men need to be more attractive in fightings. Anyway I saw many new faces here. I am glad to see their acting. I saw Bae so bin here after a long time. Anyhow all most all the actors have done a great job. Really The king's affection is a good drama to be watched to break your boredom. Hope you too enjoy!!! Saranghae!!!

Kikkoman Mar 23 2022 3:17 pm Very pleasantly surprised by this one. I was intrigued by the main character's storyline and it kept me wondering how it was going to pan out. I binged in one sitting and it did not disappoint. The final confrontation with the king and her grandfather was one the most powerful scenes I've seen in K-dramas. although I would've preferred a gritty tragic ending over what we got. All in all definitely one of my favorite K-dramas along with "Sweet Home" and "All of us are Dead"

The sensibility and chemistry between the main actors it s amazing ,so well played ,so inocent ,also funny and loyal the way Ro Woon plays his part ...and Park Run Bin ...she's a fantastic actor ...but i loved the other actors too ...Nam Yon-Soo,Bae Yoon Kyoung,Bae So Bin...but so many others ..just lovely the way they played.Thank you for this movie !

The reversed roles in this kdrama reminds me of "Tale of Nokdu" which is an amazing kdrama if I may say. be sure to check it out!!!!!

Park Eun Bin was phenomenal in this kdrama, her character seems to be getting a lot of hate (loooooool) but I prefered her when she was playing the male version. she looked so pretty in that male attire. But for me Bae Soo Bin carried the show big time , one of the best actors in the world. His presence alone make this drama wayyy better. Kudos to all the cast for this fun experience. Highly Recommended !!!!

The actors are all really great but without a good plot, rythm and twists there is no interest to watch this drama for me.

I think this is the first time for me to not finish a drama (with more than 160 drama watched)

Park Eun Bin as always delivers a solid performance as does Ro Woon & Nam Yoon Soo. Exceptional gripping script with lots of twists & turns…a bit on the raw side but I’ve gotten used to that in the period pieces. The treatment of contemporary social issues inside this period drama was lots of fun and quite clever. A shout to an exceptional supporting cast …ALL A Team seasoned actors. I’ve come to enjoy so much K Drama that the supporting cast members feel like old friends & family so when they show up in a drama it’s always a thrill. Casting was really sensational. Thank you for such enjoyable entertainment.

Nice for a change to watch something that the main message leans towards proper goodness and not just a bunch of selfish and immature people fighting for power , vanity or lust.

It was truly entertaining though I must pick a bone with episode 20 - the part where the king and her grandfather take the poison. The grandfather dies but she survives. It didn't explain why she survived the poison when it is suppose to be so deadly. I am a big fan of Park Eun-Bin; she acted well but her tiny physique makes it hard to believe she could pass for a man. If this role was played by Esom it would have been more believable because her body build (bigger, taller) makes the masquerade more believable

The director specifically said that the character is almost exactly the same as Rowoon's in real life when he interviewed Rowoon so he doesn't require to act that much outside his character. Maybe that's the problem. And also in the manhwa Rowoon's character did not exist.

The affection of all characters for each other is really emotional and touching. Ending is perfect and wrapped up well. Being 20 episodes, the story may be draggy for some people but really worth to watch cause of acting, music, songs, costumes and the unusual plots. Highly recommend..??

P.S - On top of that, Park Eun Bin's eyes acting and expressions are really on another level

This drama is completely fictional, they did not name any characters from real historical people thus it is not cancelled. Joseon exorcit was cancelled because the drama created narratives on real historical people that simply cannot be accepted.

Jan Dec 16 2021 5:12 am Probably the best kdrama I have ever watched. Everything was incredible from the cast, acting (especially Eunbin), script, storyline, chemistry and the list goes on. I have never watched a kdrama so spot on in all criteria's, especially when it comes to predictability. I could not predict a single thing that was going to happen next (which I usually can since kdramas are predictable) which is what made this show so addicting and so much more enjoyable. The storyline too was something that just stood out, it was so unique and the director executed it perfectly and beautifully that every second was worth watching. Not to mention, the chemistry of the cast is undeniable which just contributed to pulling everything together and making this kdrama one of the bests (especially Rowoon and Eunbin, such a perfect pairing).

To be honest, I am at a loss of words for describing this kdrama other than perfect. It feels like it's been so long for me since I have been attached to a kdrama like this, so this was such a pleasant surprise. Anyways, I highly recommend this kdrama for anyone contemplating watching it (it does not disappoint). Lastly, I just want to thank the cast, crew, scriptwriters, and everyone that contributed to creating this kdrama, I genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed it and will continue to support their work in the future :)

The casting was also kinda off. There is no likeable characters. Modern costume dramas should rise their standards as this kind of story shenanigans seems targeting female teenage viewers.

The casts are amazing , all beautiful and good looking. Acting was superb. The costumes were beautiful. The leads have great chemistry. This is one of the best drama in Netflex. Shirley Dec 15 2021 5:30 am Ko Kyu Pil is just so good in all his very different roles - they even found a young one to look the same. Bet he never thought he would end up a eunuch!! Very young leads without much experience so they did well in the circumstances and were carried by seniors. The story was intriguing but I felt sorry for the Queen. Very fake looking blood and fight scenes, but I watched to the end and grew to enjoy it. The young actors will gain in maturity and improve. Actors seem to get chosen for the most part from singers or models instead of drama schools. Ones who trained in theatre or acting school always stand out, also ones with a couple of decades of experience.

A Dec 14 2021 10:37 pm One of the best endings!!!! This drama is so consistent. They all did great! I cried out of anger towards Lord Wonsan and to the grandfather. All actors portrayed their roles well. I cannot ask for more. Of course, Park Eun Bin (give her more roles! She's a great actress and can portray any roles. I can't believe that she looks beautiful and handsome at the same time.), Rowon and Nam Yoon soo are great. This drama is highly recommended, it shows courage, forgiveness and fighting for true love even though it is in different forms.

PS I hope Nam Yoon Soo will be given more lead roles in the future.

I feel like their scenes together are weak and not due to the actors (they’re amazing) , but because of the material. Their scenes together are mid at best. It’s like the show is more political than romantic. Their relationship is being used as another political hurdle for Hwi. Rather than using the fact that she’s a girl pretending to be a king being a hinderance in their relationship. The whole show revolves around this secret rather than Hwi and Ji Un’s romance. There were sooooo many characters that the show focused in on leaving less screen time for our main leads. There were many pursued plot lines that shouldn’t have gotten so much attention. I just wished that the meat of this show was Hwi and Ji Un’s relationship, rather than the political story and Hwi’s secret

The 'King' & her lover get into a secret relationship despite the 'King' having a Queen who actually likes 'him'? How dumb is that? The secret is being dragged on far too long causing all the other characters to be dragged down and frustrating to watch. I love historical dramas but this is one of the most annoying historical dramas.

Most of the characters we loved at the beginning just became bland and outright annoying. Currently at episode 18 and it has been very difficult to watch. I recommend to watch it if only you’re a fan of the leads, if not there are plenty ongoing dramas that are more promising.

Plot was good for few episodes, but it's getting boring and frustrating as the story escalates or maybe I watched too many historical dramas, and the I don't like the fact that the king image here was ruined. A man as a king, it's ridiculous! Even if it's just a fiction, they should have respect their history. I'm not Korean, but felt like Korean history was violated.

Just imagine having 9% of your total viewing audience in South Korea, glued to their T.V sets for four weeks. I truly enjoyed the story line of “The King’s Affection.” It is warm, heartfelt, and a tear-jerker. The script could have been written for 16 episodes as another commentary illustrated below. You will most definitely see the two leafs come together again in another Story. They have good chemistry together. Go Sox!

Then again, it’s supposed to happen since it’s the King’s Affection not the Prince’s.. but I just thought the storyline became dragging after those events..

Also, I kinda want to entertain the idea that Ga On may be the original prince. However, they introduced them as identical twins at the start —and I just realized, from my knowledge, boy and girl twins are always fraternal (not look alike) and not identical twins..so that premise may just be weird from the start.

Still, this got my attention.. so I’ll definitely finish it. The leads are acting good, and the chemistry is showing in every scene for all of the pairings. No complaints there. :)

Also, I wish they stuck with the manhwa plot where the ML was the bodyguard. That storyline is more promising and more consistent with the overarching politics in the story. Our Ga On is more involved in the plot than the simp of a ML (no offense but that's literally all he does!!). The 2nd male lead is a scene-stealer, and when he smirks or pulls his sword, GAME OVER all eyes on him. Anyways, our FL character is 1000% but the ML is not as developed here which is a bummer... they better wrap up this show nicely PLS!!

I also agree with the Country bumpkin's comment about the ost. My ears are bleeding. The only highlight of this drama is Nam Yoon Soo. He's got potential. There were some scenes when I thought "man, he's skilled". I'm looking forward to his new projects, hopefully with good scripts

However, am i getting overdose from their sweetness or was it just me? Maybe i am getting overdose that now im actually more excited on Lee Hwi and Ga On's revenge on lord sangheon. Surprise that the scene whereby the both of them meet was quite short. Maybe i shall keep watching to find out more.

No wonder rating goes up. I cried watching the last 3 episodes (12, 13, 14). I hope it will get better and better. I love this series so much, the chemistry, acting and ost are superb.

He loves her so much that he is smart about protecting her over his bleeding heart. I love The Prince love interest, however he doesn't care if his actions gets them beheaded. Ro Woon is playing the part great. I look forward to his youthful love. I pray to God that this movie ends well. Some people will judge it negatively if it ends with them being able to live happy ever after.

Seniors acting better than young ones, but Rowoon is growing on me, he could mature as an actor with experience. No chemistry but maybe that suits the plot line. The sets, weapons, blood, costumes contrived. They go out the door in one costume and end up in another. Fighting not convincing and eavesdroppers stand in plain sight but never get seen. Still I’m watching it, but wish more money had been spent on it. It will never be another CLOY, IOKTNBOK, Sky Castle or even 100 Days my Prince or Empress Ki. Mr Sunshine was the standout historic drama aired on Netflix.

I know it’s was a manhwa adaptation, I didn’t read it yet and never will, it just not my style. There were many plot holes, for exp., how they decided to just ended Prince Changun’s character(he suddenly dead) and they just moved on like that. Also after Lee Hwi became king, since when she got married? Am I missing something? In the prev eps, I thought she was supposed to marry the other girl right?, the one that liked Ji un. Hmm, I assumed they will explain it later. Not to mention that, I really don’t like Jung Ji Un’s character. Goddamn I can’t recall on how everytime he steps everywhere in the palace, Lee Hwi suddenly appears in front of him, or vice versa. Their love story scenes were so forced imo. It got repetitive really quickly. Sorry to say but the ML was so stiff. Also the fact that he still kiss Lee Hwi without knowing she’s a girl killed me. The reason I still watch it only because of Park Eunbin. She was so good in everything. Lee Hyun also didn’t get enough credit. I thought his character was underrated. What did he do?, just kept his mouth shut and still help them. He kept her secret even though he knew that the girl he liked, was in-love with his best friend. Probably my favourite character.

Ost is in supporting role. Not the main idea. They forced vieweres to hear the ost. One good example of well-though blend of ost and the visual scene is from "find me in your memories". Follow their recipe.

A good plot line and script is lost by a host of young inexperienced actors who overact or play their parts like amateurs. It is saved by some seniors with small parts who know how to act. Of course Ko Khu Pu is always wonderful, amazing how they found a younger version of him in the beginning. I’ve seen him in so many dramas, standout in CLOY. When it jumped 10 years it got really confusing who the young ones were and there was never an explanation as to why the mother died. I’m not sure if I’ll watch to the end, I’ll try skipping a bit. This really is fake and plastic, but based on a good concept. Advice, use tried and true younger actors not newbies or Kpop idols.

Rowoon did a great job too, his character Jiun is so complicated, this is the first time a male lead in sageuk has an energetic, puppy like character like Jiun. Usually it is the female lead who behaves like that, so i know some may be unfamiliar and feel weird. But for me Rowoon did a great job, especially the chemistry between him and Eun Bin. Can't wait for their next project! Tomorrow and Strange Lawyer

Lee hwi marched into the room with her two top lieutenants. Then she gave that "you are a trash" gaze toward the kneeling corrupt officer. Then she interrogated him and she seemed contemplating about taking his life. I keep repeating that scene. It was her self confidence aura and how both left and right guys flanked and look at her following her command that make me love the scene. Must thank the director for that. The pace and the noise when she "marched" into the room, was exactly how a battle-ready general should be like. One other scene from ep 10 min 29:51. She lowered her voice when answering her dad. Iam not gonna explain why i mentioned that. In short, for eun bin, nothing done perfunctorily.

Raymond Nov 23 2021 8:05 pm This kdrama is to me extremely infuriating. At the start of the kdrama, it was good. there was a plot and character development. Now at Episode 14, its frustrating to continue to watch.

Ro Woon is great but i dont think he suits the character of Jung Ji-Un at all. Nam Yoon Soo would of been a better pick for Jung Ji-Un. He's better at expressing his emotions and his eyes are better at conveying emotions. I couldnt at all read Ro Woon's emotions.

Watch as the male lead continues to try to help Lee Hwi, not allowing for her have any character development.

Some of the scenes with both leads do infuriate me. An example would be in Episode 14 Jung Ji-Un cant seem to keep himself away from Lee Hwi. Please have some dignity and just leave Lee Hwi alone.

Anyways, I hope that Lee Hwi gets together with Lee Hyun rather than with Jung Ji-Un.

Their romance got a bit frustrating mid-way with the male lead not figuring out the Crown Prince is actually his childhood lover and the Crown Prince herself taking forever to tell him who she actually is. Her father wanted her to live her life as Dami, not the Crown Prince or Lee Hwi, so he planned with Commander Yoon to "kidnap" her so she could disappear. If not, she would still have to live as Hwi. Even though Hwi has been dethroned, she's still a Royal member.

He’s there to avenge his dear tutor, the injustice of his own father and grandfathers, the suffering of his sister and mother, and also to kill everybody who is in his grandfather side. The scar in almost his left chest/shoulder is in the same spot the arrow hit him. His mother made Dam-yi to look dead and she might as well did the same with Lee Hwi. Dam-yi has to stay as Lee Hwi because he was fatally wounded and apparently it took him a long time to recover and also I think as his cousin knows, same as believe his grandmother and his dad also knew that the prince has being replaced by Dam-yi.

Theories, but We will see.

First few epi I wept over how pitiful FL is....her family, relatives are so mean to her and even want to take her life just becos she is a gal, things become worse when her twin brother end up murdered in place of her and she is forced to impersonate him as the prince, she is always tense worrying that her real ID would be busted and have to deal with so many enemies surrounding her, even her own evil family/relatives. She was not really loved / cherished by them. Olden times of many countries actually look down on females and always think that females are losers and they are worthless and no need to be educated etc.....makes me feel sad as a female.

Even though the arrow was shot, was he truly dead, remember his mother is the same person who faked the death of her daughter. I was thinking the same thing, how was the Crown Prince planning to produce an heir and how was she planning to deceive her "wife" on their wedding night or future nights.

Even if he was alive and is gaon, why would he try to kill his sister (yes gaon was the one who shot that arrow). Also don't you think if the crown prince was alive, he would look exactly like dami/parkeunbin, i mean if they looked so alike when they were young that no one could tell them apart, then they would have just made park eun-bin play double roles. Just my opinion but let's keep watching. Can't wait to see how everything unfolds.

Gaon is the son of the late crown prince tutor who was killed the same day the crown prince was also killed. Remember the crown prince switched places with dami because he wanted to see his tutor for the last time, which was when he got mistaken for dami and got killed. Kim gaon witnessed his Father's unjust death which is why he is back for revenge. Gaon was the one who tried to kill dami at the hunting ground, so no he's not the crown prince.

My heart is aching at the fact that Ji Un accepts his feelings for the Crown Prince even though they are both "males". When he told the Crown Prince that they could endure whatever comes their way, I just wanted to cry happy tears. It goes to show that love is love (yes, even though this is a show, I still love the message).

That preview for the next epsisode has me so anxious!! I know we are all waiting for that kiss scene between the two characters.

Can we get a round of applause for the writers? They really know how to tug at your heart strings.

I so love rowoon in this drama, his character is so funny, i died when he put the flower on his head and the way he ran to the crown prince while calling him lol, ji un doesn't care, he's ready to be the female in the relationship. I can't wait for him to find out that lee hwi is a girl and his first love omg. For lee hyun, i really liked him in the beginning and i felt like he had a better chemistry with lee hwi but the lack of scenes for both of them (obviously bc he's 2nd male lead) is slowly making me loose interest in whatever feelings he has for her and plus isn't he the cousin of the crown prince, so how can he have feelings for his cousin? Doesn't make sense which is why i can't ship them. Gaon is so cute like literally this is a freaking Visual Cast. Finally the ost, omg the ost's are just so beautiful and addictive. She really pulled off a strong, confident and capable character. And I love Ro Woon. Ji Un starts off as charismatic, maybe a bit scheming, but honorable and a talented fighter. There's all the makings of a dramatic romance that's a bit dark... However it quickly turns south with a big dose of campy. By episode 8, we see very little action. Mostly some episodic dilemmas without contributing to the overall plot line. Ji Un is a bumbling Beta male, an ok fighter who frequently winds up injured, and a drunk... Eun Bin has been shafted as Lee Hwi has stopped doing anything but pouting (granted she's finally stepped up in this latest ep)... And I'm disappointed by the romance, especially since there's an emphasis on role reversals. While I enjoy them (Coffee Prince, To The Beautiful You, etc), I'm not into effeminate men. Not my cup of tea. Was hoping for a darker, more action packed drama. Fingers crossed it picks up!

I know it's based on a webcomic but I've no idea if that has a happy ending or how much this K-drama version adapts things, I've heard Jung Ji-Un is a character that isn't even in the webcomic so I hope that they won't pull a bait 'n' switch and pair Dam-i off with someone else.

That aside, I love how they've flipped the usual tropes on their head with the "Crown Prince"/Dam-i saving the male lead Jung Ji-Un, catching him when he trips etc, I also adore how Jung Ji-Un totally swoons and behaves the way the FL usually does every time the "Prince"/Dam-i saves him or does something cool, it's very entertaining. Ro Woon is an expert at lovesick/smitten facial expressions, he's very convincing!

As a future king, he/she must have certain aura or demeanor or composure that fit for a king, whatever stereotype we got about an absolute power monarch, so for the sake of the drama, we shall play along. A dominating presence in a subtle way? So be it. How to act that way? I have no idea. But she did it. It was so impressive watching her. The determined eyes and lips, the quietitude, the way she walk away from others, with that snobbish demeanor but in a subtle and, should i say, elegant way so it wont hurt the feeling of those who were being snobbed at (lol). Her gaze towards those she got annoyed with was so awesome. She is bestowed the absolute power. She could order someone to be executed but her gaze said i could do it but i won't because you are not worthy the trouble. All those attitudes though, i couldn't detect a slight fake charade from her. i thought all those acts are original. Just the sort of attitude i expect from a person bestowed of absolute power upon all people in the realm. So it was such eye candy watching her. So to conclude: she is intense, dominating even fearsome, and also thoughtful, however she delivers those qualities with elegance so subtle i would say she is effortlessly elegant. Now i wonder if the screenwriters did want those qualities from her character or she did that herself. But too much that cheesy "almost get injured by falling object or whatever but this boy saves me" scenes already.

If we're gonna dig deeper into his mysterious background, his character might've been similar from the manhwa. In the manhwa, the bodyguard is a prince from a fallen (pardoned traitor) household who fell inlove with the King. There's also the possibility that thee bodyguard prince in the manhwa has been made into two different characters, one is Kim Ga-On (bodyguard) and the other is Lee Hyun (prince). In the Manhwa, the bodyguard prince was the main lead who disguised as a girl and befriend the disguised princess. The princess gave her the same nickname that Jung Ji-Un gave Lee Hwi when she was just a palace maid. And yes, Jung Ji-Un is a new character made specifically for the kdrama.

It was explicitly stated that they're cousins. Maybe it was more common back then, but i can't imagine netflix wanting to go with a story like that but that seems to be where it's headed. If that's not where they're going with it, then they've got a lot of weird camera shots to explain.

Since i know the drama is came from webtoon, little i understand it must has such a "light romance" story, or maybe not the complex and complicated like mostly adult drama's type. Its been eps 3, and the story line is quite good even some plots seems run too fast and need more explanation. I actually watch it for seeing Byungchan with his new character which has some kind of reversing his latest role in Live On. But its turn to be I enjoy the whole story. Usually I will just skipped some parts, but now, I even wanting to see more episodes. In conlucsion this drama is deserve to watch and spend you time hehe

She's been living as a prince for sometime now and maybe because of habit she became authoritarian and to protect her secret she needs full control of everything, but when they are alone or in close door she still has got along well with the Court Lady and Eunoch.

So far those child actors really pull the storyline forward with a bang . outstanding cast , perfectly chosen , obviously this master director knows how to manipulate this well written story through those actors , bravo . Love Korean historical dramas. I’ll highly recommend it.

TT; i'll be looking forward to this in the coming weeks!

Surely, she’s fully prepared for this role as lead actress.

Her brilliant portrayal of Chae Song Ah in 'Do You Like Brahms?' even won her two awards, not to mention the recognition she got for her performance in Hot Stove League at the start of the same year. Chae Song Ah especially represented so many introverted, caring, quiet, strong-willed, determined and brave girls and women around the world, giving them a voice not often heard from K-drama protagonists. She was courageous in the face of all sorts of obstacles thrown her way - her nature was quiet, firm and resolute without having the need to be boisterous in order to showcase these traits.
