Set during the late Joseon period, when a strict alcohol prohibition has been enacted.

Nam Young (Yoo Seung-Ho) works as an officer for the Saheonbu. One of missions at the Saheonbu is to crackdown on people who break the alcohol prohibition. Nam Young came to Hanyang (old name for Seoul) from his hometown to find success. He has an attractive physical appearance and is a man of principals. He meets Kang Ro-Seo (Hyeri) and becomes confused by her.

Kang Ro-Seo is the daughter of a poor noble family. She is actually the breadwinner in her family. She doesn’t mind doing manual labor for money. To pay off debt that she fallen into, she starts brewing alcohol during the strict alcohol prohibition period.

Notes

"Moonshine" takes over KBS2's Monday & Tuesday 21:30 time slot previously occupied by "The King's Affection" and followed by "Crazy Love" on March 7, 2022.
The first script reading took place shortly before filming began in early May, 2021.
Ep.15 & 16, which was originally scheduled to air February 14th & 15th, 2022, will air February 21st & 22nd, 2022. The one week delay is due to broadcasting of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Rae is Me Mar 13 2023 9:00 pm This was definitely one of my favourite kdramas - the story, the endless humour, and the acting are all just brilliant. Never a dull moment and I just love the characters, especially Sang Mok and his “heeeeeh?” I still can’t stop laughing at some of the scenes that keep popping up in my head from time to time. I really enjoyed the balance between the serious moments and goofy ones. The cast did a superb job of acting and were a perfect group for this show. Highly recommend everyone to watch it because you won’t be disappointed especially if you like romance, comedy and a bit of mystery ;)

The character that annoyed me the most was that lazy brother of the female lead character. He knew his sister was the breadwinner of the family and risking her life paying off his debts but he doesn't take an active role in helping out through most of the story. He shouldn't have put his sister in that position at all.

The ML and FL (all four) are excellent. The back story kept me coming back for more and probably staying up way too late. Love the diversity in the cast too. Lots of actors and actresses I haven’t seen before. I highly recommend this kdrama to anyone who likes a historical drama, a good story line, a little bit of comedy and love also!!!

byeon woo seok also, so handsome and talented. it may not even be accurate to call them second leads, even with less screen time, find them more entertaining to watch. better to say there are 4 leads in this drama.

5 if you include the all important fake nose guy, chief royal secretary, as his roles in other dramas, makes an awesome villain.

Jan Feb 09 2022 9:48 am This is my first Yoo Seung-ho drama and I'm loving it! He got me when he took out his bow and arrow in Epi 1 and the rest is history. His face/eyes/cheeks/lips are just sooo eye-catching in the Joseon headgear. His Inspector Nam is at once cute but so uptight, yet has gradually learnt to loosen up and still do what is right. The other characters are equally compelling. As I consider myself quite new to KDrama and Kpop, I had no idea who Hyeri and Kang Min-a were and had to Google them. The Crown Prince is also a joy to watch. I also like the storyline and the strong female characters. Nam and Ro-seo are equals; he saves her and she also saves him. I have since caught up with a few of YSH previous works, of which I'm Not A Robot really made me fall in love with him totally. Impressed with his Dong Baek in Memorist. Now also watching The Emperor: Owner Of The Mask and Remember: War of the Son. I can't quite believe how young he actually is cos his acting is really good and I also love his voice.

The inspector is to a law abiding and will lost everything if he stays with the moonshiner, who likes to make good moonshine. So, it would be best he falls for the defense daughter who wants to move back to the country. And the prince steps down and marrys the moonshiner and up a bar where brother becomes a waiter and grandma is surrounded by grandchildren. And alcohol is legal again.

I do hope the writers of moonshine explain how the inspectors wedding got called off offer returning from the dead. How the daughter of the defense is suitable to become princess after being engaged and conspiring with the moonshiners. Why is she not afraid of being caught and be headed. Watching for answers to these questions.

It’s a drama, a very good one at that—well written, well acted with superb cinematography. I am really liking this drama a lot!

RCNueva Espana Jan 19 2022 2:59 am I may be looking for the kind of powerful acting of Seung ho in I AmNot a Robot and My Stranger Hero .Looks like the chemistry of Seung ho and Hyeri is not there. There is something really lacking. I find the Crown Prince and Ro Seo better together. But still Seung ho showed his usual self as a good actor. The excitement to watch the next episodes is not that much unlike in his other KDrama series. I am looking forward to a good and new project for YSH. But I am determined to finish the episodes till the end because I am a fan of YSH.

But it is the other way around, Hyeri is carrying it. Furthermore, he hasn't found his footing in this drama yet, he is not popping out like he usually does. He is showing his palette of expressions and flexibility but I've seen better acting from him. Neverthless, Im waiting for his character growth but his choice for his comeback drama has been so far questionable. Im not putting down the drama as it has been solid for 4 eps. YSH is a too good actor to stay on the sidelines

Hyeri gives a miss here n there but doesn’t seem awkward at all. So far 4 eps and it’s got its magic. I hope it doesn’t go like Bossam, downwards after 10 eps. Great job all the crew!

I'm a bit shaken because the flowers bloom I think of moon script is focusing on alcohol. All dramas had glamorize alcohol so much, the media influences society, so I hope the drama wi never glamorize alcohol.
