"Twenty-Five, Twenty-One" tells a love story between Na Hee-Do (Kim Tae-Ri) and Back Yi-Jin (Nam Joo-Hyuk).

Na Hee-Do is a member of her high school fencing team. Due to the South Korean financial crisis, the high school fencing team gets disbanded. Getting through all the difficulties, she becomes a member of the sabre fencing national team.

The South Korean financial crisis also causes Back Yi-Jin’s father's business to go bankrupt. This leads to a life change for Back Yi-Jin, from living the life of a wealthy person to a poor person. While studying, he works part-time jobs like delivery newspapers. Later, he becomes a sports reporter for a broadcasting network.

Kdrama Llama May 04 2026 5:59 am I loved the middle three quarters of this show so much, i literally could not wait to start the next episode. It was bright, hopeful, funny, had great characters and dialogue. It took a couple of episodes to set up and get going but then the ending fell a bit short for me. I really didn’t need everything all tied up in a neat bow but Back Yi Jin’s story was basically missing plus the story of another key male too, so frustrating…! I do feel like it was ultimately a love story between the two female leads, who had great chemistry as enemies and as friends, that is the enduring relationship for me plus the wider friendship group. I do think I will rewatch this show in a little while, not least for the nostalgia value of the story largely unfolding in the late 1990s and early 2000s - the millennium bug, brick phones, Walkmans, the terrible fashion all takes me back to my own time at school! Waaasup.

It reminded me to live in the moment because you don’t know what the future will bring.

Vee Nov 13 2025 11:41 am I have a list of kdramas I’m refraining myself to watch cause it’s too precious to be watched on a random day when I wont be able to watch it for the first time again and this is one of those. But since I’m on marathon on watching choi hyun wook’s dramas, I watched it. Saved the best for last.

I watched this drama knowing how it will end, the dramas ending is just the talk of the town lol. Irdk if I’m about to get my period but I cried a lot on this drama, even with the simple scenes I kept crying, mostly happy tears, it’s just heartfelt. I cried the most seungwan’s dropping out scene, I was literally sobbing, I dont even know why. She’s so cool. I love her so much.

Nothing to say much about the drama, it’s a really good drama about friendship, dreams, hardships, adulting, innocence and love. I understand why the ending was like that, it’s reality, they say, I just dont understand why people are so shocked about the ending when the kid has a different surname compared to the ML lol

For me, the drama went from good at the beginning, best in middle and good at the end part. I actually more into funny friendship kdramas thats why I find some fencing scenes a little boring. I love the part when they got suspended and had to stay at school and to be with their friends, thats the best episodes for me. It’s refreshing and I love the friendship between them, I just hope theyve focused more on their friendships.

I actually love the side leads more, mostly seungwan and jiwoong. I wish they had more scenes and funny banters, I really love how the director kept them as friends til the end. I did not really expect it but Seungwan ended up as mu fav character here, I thought she’ll be annoying but she’s so cool, I kinda relate to her and I love how she became.

People be like oh this is the reality but duhhhhh thats why its a drama its not supposed to be a reality! This is a k-trauma. I remember having a hard time while the drama was still ongoing. And i waited till 12am (eventhough i have work the next day and just got back from long distance driving) i Waited for the drama to be released on netflix. I thought that hey i might cheer up a bit after watching the last ep right. Wrong. I fcking cried so hard and went to work next day with the most baggy and puffy looking eyes. So yeah. Ktrauma of the year. So this drama for me only has 13eps. Tq

The flow of this drama from them being immature, young, stupid, broke kids to being mature, full of understanding, grown adults is lovely. I like the story of each character; they really portray the life of a teenager perfectly. You can connect with and appreciate all the individuals in this drama, from the main leads to the parents, coaches, friends, and more. This show deserves all the hype it received.

Out of all the characters, the one I love the most is Na Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri). A girl who does everything recklessly just to get what she wants and has everything in her way. She is the one to whom I relate the most. Seeing her personality grow makes me cry. Her friendship with her classmates, especially with her rival Ko Yu-Rim (Bona), and her relationship with Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk) are wonderful.

Youth will always be the best stage to try and be recklessly stupid. You will cry, laugh, and learn a lot from this drama. Worth watching and a 10/10.

Kool Aug 26 2023 7:06 am I think when drama started i enjoyed it a lot, it had felt different and entertaining but almost only till ep 8 or at most 9, ep 10 was kind of okay but filler, from then onwards episodes became more filler like, as if writers dont have content so they will show mundane backstories of characters or random village banter and stories, the drama lost its track mainly due to lack of ideas with writers to continue the story so they went random, but still one could watch ep 10 plus thinking its about characters' youth, showing youth was also purpose of writers so it was okay but then very bad ep 15 and 16 came, which were ridiculouly bad for what the story suddenly did.

But still for me early episodes were good and fun though i was never able to overcome the fact that how extremely rude and b.tchy and vindictive yurim was towards hee do just due to her success, she didnt deserve to become her friend.

I tried rewatching the show but dunno why second time around i had found kim tae ri screaming and shouting a lot and it was getting on my nerves so i stopped it. First i watched i heard criticism on her screaming but it didnt stand out to me lso because she was a high schooler but 2nd time it did feel annoying.

From the story to the cast, nothing disappointed me. Everything is neat and beautiful. All have the right portion.

This drama has made me laugh and cry. I rarely cry when watching dramas. But this is an exception.

The ending of the story pissed me off. But that is indeed the best potion. It makes an impression on the hearts of its audience. I didn't expect there to be a season 2. This drama is enough for one season. And this will be eternal in my heart.

itsmekayc Jun 24 2023 3:21 am Just finished watching. i am speechless for this drama. very good acting. all actors not just the mainleads did well. as in All. i cried a lot for the touching scenes of Na Hee-Do and Ko Yu Rim. though acting of Back Yi Jin and Na Hee Do are SuperbB. I hate the relationship complications and they did not end up together. I got married at 24. Now, I am 29, I hate to see those two characters did not end up together even when they love each other so much. Why complicate Love guys! work or long distance relationship should not be hindrance of Love especially if its not obviously one sided. Writer please, Season 2 please wherein Na Hee Do got divorced. LOL.

when this drama got first released, I saw many spoilers in facebook. so since i know the ending, i promise myself that i will not watch so that I will not feel depressed or heartbroken by the ending/story. Still it just happen that I did watch it since yesterday, glad that i found the courage to watch. I brainwashed my self to not be too heartbroken by the breakup of the Mainleads. And bottomline is, their breakup is avoidable so i hate the writer for it. haist.

Teri-teri Apr 28 2023 5:33 pm Tae Ri looks like she is reborn in this drama, all fresh and dreamy. No nody would know how she saved Joseon but now she is just saving herself. The intro to the story is much easy to get but as soon as I realized about why Na Hee Do's daughter first name is Kim and not Baek, since the couples are very clear to be determined. I asked myself what could happened to Hee Do love life the whole time! It is more mysterious how the daughter didnt know who is Baek Yi Jin. Anyways, this drama taught me how to dream again and there are morals to learn to be happy. Great drama to be noted!!!

And the emotions and the story will stay with me for a long time

Kpopandgrime Dec 24 2022 7:35 pm A near perfect drama for many but for me the last halve of the show was dragging, just couldn’t be asked to finish it honestly . In the end I did and the whole story made sense . However with all that being said this was an outstanding kdrama series.

I say this because the chemistry was second to none, u won’t find a better set of cast . I really enjoyed their acting Throughout the episodes , such pretty and handsome individuals. Especially Nam Joo Hyuk who is the superstar of the future , absolute brilliant performance in this series . Two females leads were outstanding too , hats of to them as well. Really enjoyed their friendship.

Would I Recommend this ? ~ Most definitely Would I rewatch it again? ~ Absolutely Not

Nonetheless I enjoyed most part of the series and there is my honest review of this kdrama

This drama have been popular since it was first aired. This drama became so popular and many people talk about this drama but back then i still don't have curiousness or eagerness about twentyfive-twentyone. But, after I watched firsst eps, i became addictive to watch next eps, next eps, and i can't stop myself! Kim Tae Ri and Nam Joo Hyuk chemistry are so damn best! I saw a lot of Nam Joo Hyuk character like that (be the one who get hurt) at drama The Light in Your Eyes and Start Up. But, again in this drama i'm fall in love with him! I just watched the Kim Tae Ri drama for the first time, but there is no doubt that her acting is so good 'n satisfiying. For Ko yu Rim, Moon Ji Woong, and Ji Seung Wan, because of them i get laughed very hard and get butterfflies where the scene Ko Yu Rim and Moon Ji Woong. It's only been 5 eps but I've learned a lot abput passion and dreams that I have to achieve from this drama!

Instead I wish the diary that the daughter found is about her dad and the love story of her parents, like how they survived the trials of being apart, like how they stayed strong despite the situation and at the end because they truly love each other became husband and wife. That's just me of course :D

She is a really talented actress.Her acting is really perfect. I really appreciate it. This drama has a good story. Nam joo hyuk too has done his role very nicely. The other actors too act very naturally. I saw a lot of new faces here.I will never forget this drama.This is one of the best hits of all time kdrama.This drama teaches us about the love,frienship and relationships. I had a very difficult young adult life. Things happened beyond my control that makes me envy younger people when I see them. I envy their friendships and love because for most of my young adulthood, I was lonely. I never wanted it to be so, it sadly happened that way for me and this drama made me so sad because I have experienced first hand this kind of sadness. The feeling is an empty and lonely one for a long time.

Overall, it’s an excellent piece, a 10/10

Queen K Oct 16 2022 7:26 pm Thrilling friendship and love between a young man who once promised never to be happy in life and a young lady, who by the leading of the young man, fell so deeply in love to the point where she’d either act on her feelings (as she did) or give up on the friendship. They got to the point where they couldn’t just remain as “just friends”.

We see a few times in the story where Yi Jin subtly declines Hee do’s feelings and wanting for more because of his dream (getting his family together). But he’s too in love to keep his distance from her. Her do on the other hand couldn’t understand why he loved her that much and continued to lead her on yet he didn’t want to be with her.

By reading between the lines, judging from Yi Jin’s actions and as Hee do grew older, she understands that Yi Jin has other priorities and though he loves her, he was with her because he didn’t want to be away from her or hurt her. He would have preferred if they were just friends till his mind was fully ready for the relationship but Hee do was to young to understand that and he didn’t even try to help her understand.

I feel like Hee do really didn’t want to give them up, she just wanted Yi Jin to be more committed and say it. But Yi Jin wasn’t ready to do that at that time. He found just what he felt he needed “freedom” through the break up. He felt they could stay as friends till he was ready, he wasn’t expressive of his feelings and how he wanted things to progress between them and this continued to hurt the young lady. The distance wasn’t her problem, his attitude was her problem.

On the other hand though, I wish she was a little more patient, things may have turned out differently for them. Then again, if this were a real life situation, it may have also been a waste of time and a huge loss for her cos when a person prioritizes their dreams above all else, till they are satisfied, they leave little or no room for anyone else. Patience will be required from the other partner.

I also wished that, along the years while they were still apart, before Hee do got married, Yi Jin found his way back to her. I feel she would have wanted that but he never did. He sadly kept following his dream and being lonely. Very sad indeed. If this were real life, with the portrayal of Yi Jin still being single in the end and Hee do in a lonely marriage that might fail, they’ll probably still have a chance that I’m sure none of them would give up.

It’s been over a week since I saw this movie and my heart is still heavy for them.

As others have mentioned, this will stick with me for a long time. Kudos to Kwon Do-Eun for writing such deeply meaningful characters. I don't want to move on, but it's so painfully wistful to stay. I read a theory that says Hee-Do and Min Chae's father divorced already as Min-Chae's father never knew where she was staying. Also Hee-Do gave away a hint that getting a divorce is a lot harder than being married. People were saying that Hee-Do wasn't able to fully move on from the break-up as she always had a regret as shown in the last part. She was only able to forgive her past self when she read her diary. So basically, 2521 was a story of her finally letting go and moving on from her youth.

To clarify this from the beginning, I'm not that type of person who judges an ending based on his admirations for the cast or anything like that. I'm not that type of person who says an ending is bad just because it's sad.

I'll try to write my review from an objective perspective as much as I can, because I think this is the most righteous way of writing a review.

For me, the last episode was full of emotion and it really made me cry at the point were the flashbacks came in (I don't usually cry when watching something but this was on another level of nostalgia and sadness :) ), and this was a really good thing, because they managed to make this story so impactful and gave it a real meaning and place in the viewer's heart.

I knew from the beginning that they might not end up together because Yi-Jin's dream was always to gather his family together again and Hee-Do's dream was to be Yu-Rim's rival and be someone in the fencing community. There wasn't a common long-term dream between the two, which led again to the possibility of them breaking up. (And also, the present day scenes)

I think this is the first kdrama where I wanted to see a last minute change to a happy ending because of these reasons: - letting go of something wasn't in Hee-Do's character. Through the series we saw her multiple times not wanting to give up and trying again to succeed (ex: when she wanted to find why her mother didn't come to her father's funeral and why she was so cold-hearted with her this whole time; when she wanted to succeed in her fencing career). If she gave up finding the reason behind her mother's behavior, her life wouldn't be like this in the present time and if she just gave up on fencing she wouldn't end up being such an important person in Korea.

- they continued to care for each other and support each other (the bus stop scene). They showed themselves how much they love and support each other but they part ways anyways. They ignore their feelings somehow and decide to let go of all, a thing I cannot understand given the fact that they still have feelings for each other. Also, I think the creators gave us the ending we wanted to see through Ji-Woong and Yu-Rim.

This ending is weird because they breakup because of the distance that was between them but Hee-Do marries someone that isn't with her either and that is very strange. Hee-Do's husband doesn't appear once. She's alone at her final match (only Yu-Rim was there for her), she comes alone at Seung-Wan's father funeral and even in the present day scenes she's all alone. The present scenes are the weirdest because her husband doesn't appear once and doesn't even know the news about his daughter (the fact that she wanted to quit ballet but her father still sent a costume to her shows the lack of communication between Hee-Do and her husband).

That's why, in my opinion, a happy ending in the past was a better option that could also relate to the events from the present, given the fact that her husband was as busy as Yi-Jin was, but hey I guess they wanted just to put in the light the imperfections of a human being. They wanted to show us that we make our own chances, our choices and wishes pave our ways to the future, that all us make mistakes that follow us our entire life.

Also, I can't end this without saying a word about the cinematography (I really liked the composition for most of the shots and their look), the editing (especially at the end, with the flashbacks, it was a masterpiece), the direcion of Jung Ji-Hyun (minus the few times where he broke the 180 degree rule without a solid purpose, in my opinion), the osts (which are so beautiful) and finally the colorist (who did a phenomenal job, this show really reminded me of Hotel del Luna, because of the deep reds and the dreamy look some shots had).

I wanted to write even more but my ideas just flew out when I started writing this, so bad :))

In conclusion, this was a fantastic drama and I would recommend this to anyone. The pace declined constantly as the things got sadder, the characters were nicely polished and the action was so diversified. The sad ending was a bit forced and all the things that happened didn't align properly but I can't judge them too much for this (maybe I think this way because I was never in a relationship, who knows :)) ).

Simple things like acknowledgement of defeat or incapability to repair a certain situation one is caught up in, as well as how to deal with adversity etc. are depicted in the most beautiful way. Human shortcomings and human excellence, the whole Yin and Yang are tangibly described. Needless to say, the casting is stunning.

But knowing that somehow K-drama can be flop in further eps, I watched this drama without any expectation. But it turned out to be Gold. I never feel bored with any single scenes. Fresh characters, great chemistry, beautiful lines and amazing cinematography. The characters development felt very natural, it was like we were growing together with them. I will never forget and never regret the eight-week I'd spent to watch it. It perfectly portrayed "youth": dream, spirit, rebel, justice, hard work, failure, friendship.. and first love. Based on my 16 years experience of watching K-drama, this is definitely one of my favorite K-drama all time!

IMO, the ending of HeeDo and YiJin is the most realistic ending that could happen. YiJin has been reminded not once but three times (by HeeDo’s mother, coach, and his reporter sunbae) that their relationship might not gonna worked. Even after he transferred to another department, HeeDo’s mother also remind HeeDo that it still might not get any better. Yet they still love and support each other until they felt not loved or not supported enough. They started out strong, until life and careers path stumbled each other way. It was a beautiful love story that doesn’t work. Superb writing, without any plot armor to ML / FL. Might take a long time to process this tho, haha!

Na Hee Do never wanted to be left hanging because her mom already did that out of necessity. Back Ye Jin grabbed the opportunity to work abroad for a better pay and to reunite his family which he eventually did. It was a beautiful love but their goals did not align. Still a beautiful albeit a bittersweet love story for me.

I love the camaraderie of the 5 characters, its solid! How I wish I have friends like them. The storyline is very realistic, anyone can relate to it. I always feel a wave of emotions everytime I watch the episodes. I've never cried, laughed, and fell in love this hard in a series before.

And, may I say Nam Joo Hyuk is excellent here! This is by far the best kdrama he's had! My God, I totally swooned and fell hard for him. He is sooo convincing, just one look at him and I'm in love!! I'm sad that this is about to end. I'm still hoping for the Baekdo couple.to end up together. And, I think they will. There may be hiccups in their relationship when they were 25 and 21 (thus the title), but I still believe they will end up together. I still have this gut feeling that BYJ is Min Chae's appa!

Its just sad the writters went this way.

I realized that this drama shows the stages of relationship between 2 people. How it blossom from friendship into something more than friendship (By and HD). The ups and downs of having a relationship specially if both parties has to build there careers plus the distance. This is so relatable. It makes me feel nostalgic. It just brought back some memories from my past. I appluad the actors, writers, directors, and the crew for bringing us this drama. Good job! I am waiting for the finally episode to close the case of Who is Min Chae's father?..hahaha

Its very rare to see a drama these days that will get you hooked and this one totally delivered from the first episode down to ep 14. It will make you laugh, reminisce your high school life and first love, it will teach you the importance of friendship and family.

And, may I say this is by far Nam Joo Hyuk's best performance ever! He is sooooo convincing that I totally fell in love with him! I can't get over how great his acting here. If i could rate this it will definitely be a perfect 100!

This might be Nam Joo-Huyks best performance in a kdrama yet, Baek Yi-Jin seems so believable (and also likeable) as a character. Kim Tae-Ri's performance as teenager Na HeeDo is also amazing. I would be completely Devasted if Baek Yi-JIn and Na Hee-Do don't end up together!! Compared to many other romance dramas these days, this drama is not completely predictable, it overall reminds me of the Reply series. So excited for the ending this week!

The story was outlined well and nothing was forced. It just went smoothly, perfectly written! It makes you reminisce your time back during high school.

As for the cast, you can really see the camaraderie of everyone. They really portrayed their roles really well. This is by far Nam Joo Hyuk's best drama ever!! For me, this is the drama to beat, nothing has come close so far. I've had a roller coaster of emotions while watching this. I've laughed, cried, got excited, and totally fell in love.

I can't believe it's about to end, I'm already having sepanx as early as now! Highly recommend this!

Jean Mar 31 2022 12:43 pm I think (and hope, fingers crossed) Yi Jin and Hee Do are end game. Min Chae could be YJ's daughter. As to the surname Kim, I have a feeling that YJ was just adopted. In one of the episodes, his father said he was his biggest consolation (I think that was the word) 10 years ago. Also, the father registered a business under the 2nd son's name. If YJ was indeed his legitimate son, he could have listed the company under YJ's name. This led me to think that YJ was adopted and his real name was Kim Do Hee, which explains why MC was a Kim. Hope my theory is right, really shipping Baekdo!!!!

I so love this drama, I've seen it twice already while waiting for the last 2 episodes.

a life where hope goes according to our plans but is always awakened by the harshness and cruelty of the world's slaps, the pressures and demands of work and of course what true love is.

That's what makes youth so beautiful, crazy and unforgettable. As to the ending, i don't know how this drama will lead, whether to a happy ending or a sad ending. I will accept whatever it is gracefully.

Re when HD must have gotten married, it could have been earlier than 2009 given YG's comment regarding late congratulations. At that point he may not have been in contact with HD for years.

So she was 15 years old Korean age which means she would be 13 or 14 international age.

For someone who's struggling mentally and emotionally, by watching this drama and taking inspiration from their different stories, I felt validated and, at the same time, comforted.

Happy to have found another drama that I can go back to and rewatch whenever life's acting tough on me again. As to the ending, I'm still positive that Heedo and Yijin is going to be an endgame. I don't know, I just feel that a love like that shouldn't be wasted. And I'm hoping to witness that in 2521. Regardless if it's sad or happy, this is one of the best kdramas in the history.

Friends come and go. We had friends in high school but we don't really know where some of them are now.. Thats how life is, people grow apart, we all follow different paths and some people don't become part of that journey.

Secondly its weird that we thought these 2 ended up together or marrying each other. Hee do's daughter doesn't seem like she knows baek yi jin so I don't understand why people thought these 2 got married.

I am sad that Back Yi-Jin did not do the same as he did at the end of episode 8, when he had an interview with the referee in order to ease the situation for Nah Hee-do. The screenwriters should have been generous to the character of Back Yi-Jin and the questions and answers of Ko Yu-Rim to explain her situation. So while in episodes 4-10 Back Yi-Jin fights for Nah Hee-do after that he does not.

The relationship between Na hee do and Baek yi jin is just flawless, nothing at all was forced. it was just plain, smooth love. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the age gap, it's four years. Most people date people ten years older. Besides, he waited till she was old enough before engaging in anything with her. Na hee do might have been a high school kid but she was able to relate with him and understand him more than any adult could. Their relationship seriously gives me butterflies. She was his motivation and He was her rock. Despite their age gap, they still managed to fully understand and care deeply for each other.That is what friendships and relationships should first be based one. Not age difference. I would definitely take someone five years older who can relate with me than someone my age who I can barely share a laugh with.

So many dramas focus on harsher judgements from parents, like with partner decisions/marriage and education/career path (and i understand it's just part of the culture and nowadays is somewhat more liberal in their children's decisions) so it's refreshing to see a mom supportive of her daughter's decision but making sure she's set on it.

I think yijin genuinely wanted to be a friend and support system for heedo but feelings got developed, when he said I love you, he said to her that he wasn't expecting anything in return and just wanted to make her happy, he is cautious of heedo's age which is why he isn't rushing or forcing her into anything, even with the kiss scene, you can see how he didn't kiss back and what if in the next episode he keeps his distance. Also if not for the IMF crisis yijin would still be in college, so technically he's still a student. Y'all make him out to be like some ahjussi, pls stop throwing words around like grooming especially when you aren't even watching the show and just joining the bandwagon hate.

He can nail this YiJin role from romantic to emotional scenes. For me, Start up, he was into the character ; nerd and trembling In pressure situations especially 1st half of drama. I like his acting. For Heedo role, KTR was also into her role by a bit tom boy personality but mix of feminine side. Her action is very good and can get along well with YiJin character to make this series so lovely to watch. Besides, a lot of learnings from many characters which we can learn from them that they made this drama so worth to watch it. Recently, I like this series the most. 10/10

This adds depth to the character and shows how immature she is and how much she still has to grow. After her dad died, she grew up majorly by herself as her mother was mostly busy with work. It also highlights the contrasting levels of maturity between Yi jin and Hee do. If you can’t understand such simple techniques deployed by the director maybe this isn’t for you!

Their distance and difference of acting style is confusing for the drama let alone their non existance chemistry, is it a comical drama like weightlifting fairy? At least kim bok joo was likeable despite her ridiculous facial expressions... I'm shocked that female lead kim taeri was in a park chan wook movie

I am also glad for seungwan for taking a stand but i didnt get why they showed so much crying music and crying for her ,it was a personal choice and not a big tragedy,school had wrong policies and she chose herself to quit, so its all cool. I liked how she talked to teachers confidently,it was so catharatic, things iwanted to do but couldnt.

It maintained a serious tone overall while highlighting issues like corporal punishment in school and also taught the lesson of earning what you want through grit and determination. All of the actors acted their hearts out. Even though the tone was serious there were still scenes that shed light on the comedic and romantic aspect of this show. The comedy, the romance, the realism, and the torturing truth of life is all there. It's so fun to watch and see how the story goes and is not what I expected from this film. I was hesitant at first thinking it would be another boring and cliche K-drama but this is far from that. Not only does it give you the feels every moment in the episode but teaches you about adulthood and dreaming.

The cast members are so talented and did an amazing job portraying their roles in the drama, especially Kim Tae-ri, she's proving yet again how much of an outstanding actress she is. Her character is so inspiring making me want to do my absolute best to try and reach my dreams as well.

If you're looking for a heart-warming and a slice of life drama, this is the series for you, would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good series.

One of the best dramas to have come out this year. I’m just gonna be bold and say that this is The Best Drama Of This Year. It’s so brilliantly written.One thing they could have improved on is casting ML who can match the same level of acting as KTR. The current guy playing the ML is just expressionless at times and sometimes his acting comes off a bit stiff and forced. Not natural like our queen Tae Ri. He is hot though which is a plus.

I love the mom of yo rim so much. She’s the best mom in the drama.

The story line gets better and better! It makes you wonder what the plot twists would be. It takes me back to my childhood days when all I did was hang out with my friends, play and start to talk about boys. The feeling of falling in love. Getting scared of growing up and growing apart from friends.. ahh this drama is so refreshing.

Also, Min chae didn't even have a reaction to her mom saying in her diary that she felt like she can do anything with Yijin around, but overreacted when she dated with a guy she met days earlier. Maybe Yi jin and Hee do are together and they are Min chae's parents, maybe the last name will be explained later and the fact that he is adopted fits perfectly (Yi jin's mother's last name is Kim, maybe that's why he changed it and that's why his daughter has it).... As for why he is not present is because he became an international correspondent and with the virus he must maintain quarantine every time he returns to the country, so he still does not visit his daughter, and thus justify why Hee do's mother says she sees him at the station and she does not react because she knows it (in the end she should know when her husband returns). As for Hee do's memory loss I read a theory that she indeed has selective memory loss and it's due to the loss of a squad member and that member is seung Wang (remember what she says to Yi jin on the beach, maybe she suffers from depression and it has serious consequences ??) that's why Hee do can't remember that particular trip because it hurts her and she has hidden all her photos and hence Min che doesn't recognize her father as a young man because he changed his name and never saw one of his photos before . ..

So much for my report ??? (and my wishes for a Happy ending ??).

Minchae's expressionless face when discovering Baek Yijin and anything related to him (watched his first news relay, looking at old photos). The clashing career between Yijin and Heedo is potentially dangerous for their relationship. Unknown Minchae's Dad (Heedo's husband?) is at quarantine for 1month. Adult Heedo not remembering her outing to the beach with the gang and says "nothing lasts forever" in Ep10... All these conclude that the current Heedo and Yijin has minimal to none relationship, which is heartbreaking for me. From the start their relationship was so sweet until Ep9 which bring me up to clouds. But as I went high on dopamine for Ep9 cuteness I also have a very bad feeling- just like the saying "the higher you fly, the harder you fall" and goddammit it's proven true in Ep10. Then I saw the lyrics of the song Twenty Five, Twenty One by Jaurim.. It's sad af. I hope the writer could be gentle while sinking the ship. That said, this drama is still 10/10.

1. Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin might not really the endgame. Both BYJ and NHD will choose their respective careers. The relationship of NHD's mom and the coach is a foreshadow. Some higher ups from the tv station will put a pressure towards BYJ as he have a personal relationship with NHD. BYJ doesn't want to ruin NHD's reputation as he also want to stay in his job to provide for his indebted family. And after years of working as a reporter, he might have enough money to pursue his true calling-which is to work at NASA.

2. Someone from the squad (especially Ko Yu Rim) died that's why NHD has a selective amnesia. NHD's mom is so keen in those photo albums and looking at NHD's friends. Also, the existence of NHD's diary plays a major role that even though she might forget it, the diary will serve as a reminder of her happy days.

3.Kim Min Chae is not NHD's biological daughter, it might be from one of her deceased friend.

It's funny because if Yu-jin courted Hae-doo when his previous crush is Yu-rim, it would'nt be good. i love also all the casts. I love also seeing Choi Hyun wook cute acting. Yu- jin is probably under the impression that he simply sees Hae-dio as a little sister and a friend He is a reporter with a lot on his plans, so courting Hae-doo was never a priority for him. It's all about motivation and setting a goal. The one is an impoverished undergrad who appears to have been abandoned by his parent, while the other is wealthy and intelligent. They see each other in all stages of life, which inspires some to desire to achieve their goals, while others are motivated by a lack of living. LOVE Romance is the least of their concerns but they are aware of it. They don't feel love or romance but they do feel inspiration. They wil laugh it someday such situations once they have grown up and become professionals with their fanilies. Wishing that they would eventually see each other and be reunited with their families.

I feel like Baek Yi Jin will need to choose betweem his work and his love/friendship with Hee Do at some point. This is why they are not together in the future, in my opinion. Probably he will hurt Hee Do (and himself) just as Hee Do's mom did hurt the coach. (Just a theory. What do you guys think?)

Gotta love the cinematography of this drama. Kim tae ri’s acting is superb!! I’ve been watching korean dramas since 2008; this drama will be on my top 5 if the drama ends well! I hope so! Found out about this Korean fencer named Shin A Lam and she had a an iconic moment in 2012 a bit like Yurim and Heedo. I wonder if the producer got an inspiration from her?

kdramafan Mar 06 2022 6:47 pm Addicted to this drama so much. In love with the character of Nae Do and Yi Jin, as well as the writing and character development. The love line is particularly brilliant in its pace and subtlety. It is so painfully sweet how Yi Jin seems to already know that love is where they're headed, except he needs to wait for her to grow up a little more and be an adult. I feel that him holding back--those tiny moments -- those are the most heart fluttering moments for me. That restaurant scene when 2 week-boyfriend (btw great cameo Choi Tae Joon!) went to the bathroom, and Nae Do frankly confesses to Yi Jin that her heart skipped a beat when she saw his back, and Then Yi Jin stops, pauses for a moment but doesn't raise his eyes and gently asks her "Why?" - Omg I keep replaying that brief moment. He already knows and he just needs to be patient while waiting for her to grow up and realize he's about to be her first love. Aaarghh. Okay I Have One Rant Though. I think the casting of Older Nae Do is just so Off! She doesn't look anything like Kim Taeri, and sorry but her acting is so blah! Her face is so stiff. Everytime she's on in the present timeline as Old Nae Do, I just check out, she's so miscast in my opinion. That's the only flaw for me in this series. Everything else, plot, fencing action, glory journey, life insights--Love Love Love.

Personally I just really love Hee Do's development in the show and she def stood out more to me compared to Yi Jin, always looking forward to their scenes tgt tho, Cute! Love the supporting casts also, they're all amazing actors/actresses. And for the plot, always keep me interested! I feel the reply series vibe, but with a twist of more curiosity, can't just guess how it's gonna end. Hopefully not SE tho, imma cry if it's SE. Yes you're poor and miserable but it's that enough reason to be shitty towards a colleague? Yurim literally has the most supportive parents and friends as well so why acting like she's under pressure? Na heedo on the other hand has no one except yijin and coach. Yurim is just immature and pathetic, the writer should not bother to redeem her character because that ship has sailed for me. I love the friendship between jiwoong & seungwan. I love all the soundtracks too! And the cinematography & well edited of every clips in this drama. Sometimes I feel like watching a clip from a movie. Bona is a good actress too, people hated her character meaning she delivered it well.

This is because in the present when heedo gives minchae the present that her dad gives to her, their conversation doesn't seem like a wife talking about her husband to their daughter. It's more like she was given the responsibility and taking care of her on behalf of someone else. Well... it's kind of weird for a child at her age to never be in her mom's room at her grandma's house. It's weirder for her to not know about her mom at all. Idk, maybe min chae mom might not be hee do. It could be someone else, maybe yurim or seung wan. But yeah, I may be wrong.

I never knew I could love a Kdrama this much. Now, I am a major fan of Kim Tae Ri because she's just purely great. I am even currently watching Mr. Sunshine, which is also a masterpiece by the way, while waiting for the 2521 episodes. Overall, this drama is great and is highly recommended!

Want to tell everyone that the drama is really doing well both in domestic and international viewership. For the local ratings, it's already peaking at 11% with an average of almost 10% which can be considered a hit already for a cable drama (2521 is being broadcasted by tvN which is a cable and not a public broadcast channel). The hype is really there :) And yes, I agree. It deserve all the recognition because it's been a while since I've watched a drama that is truly well-made with very lovable characters.

Kim Tae-ri is indeed a rising star in her own rights. She has a natural look so viewers are not distracted from her great acting chops. The male lead is also improving and maturing as a young actor. Watched his earlier dramas like 'Bride of Haebaek'. Has really improved many notches, and such a bonus as he looks great too. Hopefully something great will blossom between Hee-do & Yi-jin beyond their deep friendship.

Rui Mar 01 2022 9:28 am this movie remind me a lot of my childhood. Growing up in the 90's practicing Kendo from a young age having that competitive drive like Hee Do.

Out of all the dramas that are currently running at the moment this tops my list. I look forward to each episode every week. I am not sure why this has such low ratings and definitely deserves much more praise. I think the view ratings speak for themselves as they are much higher than the other dramas that are currently airing.

If you grew up in the 90's playing sports while growing up this would be the perfect drama for you. It just feels so nostalgic and to be able to relive it and experience watching in from another perspective is beautiful.

Bringing up about situation of IMF also about fencing that not all people have interest on it before. So that's unique. And then the main characters of this drama have a strong bond, I love their friendship and how they find the way to support each other.

Even I’m adult not early 20 or teens but this series can draw my interest. Hopefully, at the end Ye Jin would be a father to Hae do’s daughter otherwise I will be heartbroken 555. Y'all, I love love love episodes 5 and 6 so much! Episode 5 made me so emotional and I just want to keep rooting on the happiness of both of them and their dreams—Hee Do finally being a national fencing team player and Yi Jin's dream to reunite his family and just to get back up on life. I really lost it when I saw Yi Jin on the payphone kept on playing Hee Do's voice message and when he reached her hand and they both run together even apart! Yes, that's the beauty of this drama! Two people who share grief, root for one another, and want to seek happiness together—tightly holding hands while running even though they are apart! They are so far away and yet, they still bring comfort to each other. What a powerful message of their special friendship. No matter what happens to both of them in the future, I will really treasure episode 5 and I believe both of the characters as well!

Now, episode 6, I think this is more upbeat and I loved how it emphasized them trying to move forward on their dreams and also an episode where both Yi Jin and Hee Do grow up and climbed up. With Hee Do trying to have a boyfriend and her becoming Yu Rim's rival, on the other hand, Yi Jin is starting his career as a trainee reporter.

We also see more of Hee Do's hard work coming into fruition and just by looking at her, you really see how happy she is and it makes you become inspired as well. I also want to add that Hee Do is so pretty when her eyes glisten, when she smiles and when she talks about fencing. Now, I've come to fully understand why Yi Jin misses her and why he finds comfort in her.

I know, some might want to keep the romantic interests going years later, I get that, but some beautiful relationships are rooted in friendship and emotional support to one another. I just knew they already have special spots in their hearts, they will not deny that because they knew it as well. ♥

I'm so rooting for both of you, Hee Do and Yi Jin! Fighting and continue fighting for your dreams!

Secretly rooting for each other during a hard time is something more precious and more meaningful. This drama teaches youth how to keep working hard even though time and luck are not on their side.

It seems like daughter is unrelated to him till now. Well sometimes not all lovers end up in marriage . But their relationship is an ideal relationship we all want. Having trust towards eachother ,mutual understanding , growing affection ,rooting for each other . But I hope even in present they are rooting for eachother maybe as friends , they are with good partners

Spring Feb 26 2022 9:44 pm I dont find screaming after points scoring cringey ,i actually love it how kim tae ri does it as it looks cool but i do find it weird why they scream so loud after every point and its very loud, i am sure director took it from real life so i am curious why it happens in fencing, havent seen such strong reactions in other sports like tennis etc.

So i speculated min chae came to live with heedo 2-3 years ago and i was wrong seeing ep 5 , as we see kid min chae walking upto mom.

The humor in this episode at times reminded of racket boys and then i remembered ji woong was also in racket boys, i liked rb humor but later i got bored so i didnt like 2521 turning similar to rb and its good that in ep 5 after middle part rb like humor, drama again changed its tone and became serious with yi jin and hee do scenes.

Ep 5 also gave lil but startup vibes . Also the music in heedo duel scenes was a variation of tune from startup when dalmi etc would set out on tasks. I hate that music cause it reminds of SU and i dont have good memories with startup. Its almost like ptsd and desker and su music tunes feel lile triggers lol.

I really want yijins brothers makeup to be toned down and someone really should lighten up his lipstick like why he needs such lip tint. Also namjuhyuks lipstick should also be reduced,these lipcolors on boys are standing out a lot and not going with drama's vibe.

Kim tae ri really shows 1 thing that you dont need botox ,fillers( those she prolly has it done on her) or super costly designer clothes to be noticed and carve a place. In her shyttiest sweat pants she stands out more than any other actress could for the person who she is. I really love her dishevelled hair look during matches it gives a very natural feel,in addition during matches kim tae ri always gives a very determined look which looks very genuine and motivating, like she is living that moment.

No matter how well hee do was written it is with kim tae ris intentional or unintentional mannerisms,body language,body movements and gestures that make hee do look a deep and very unique character, someone else playing it would have made it look shallow and maybe looks conscious. I like when shes cheerful how she hops around , tilts her head ,sways her arms; i like how she turnslooks passive agressive towards mom and yu rim; and really like her disappointed face, sad face, crying face expressions. Heedo is always screaming in her normal moments but when she is sad and crying she goes very silent except for when she bawled while returning book. Any other actress in those sad scenes might be scream crying and hyperventillating like having an onsetting asthama attack.

Really like coach and her acting and first time i like the suburban accent,shes doing it so attractively. My fav seen was when both coach and hee dance in alley, coolest by far.

Lily Feb 26 2022 8:29 pm People who said that female lead is annoying probably didn't know the fact that Na Hee Do's character is a 18 years old girl which full of passion and sometimes act quick without thinking. It's normal for a teenager to act aggressive and impulsive. The actress (Kim Tae Ri) is a respectable famous actress in South Korea. Most Korean know her and all of her projects are guaranteed so good. She's known as a blue chip in SK. Her acting is incredible. She's 32 years old but she's able to perfectly portray a 18 years old character. For me, she nailed Na Hee Do's 18 yo character. Later we will see her as the 21 yo Na Hee Do. I believe she will portray it really well too.

I want to give big appreciation for this drama. Love everything about it. The story is heartwarming, love how Na Hee Do and Back Yi Jin support each other, make each other stronger during tough times. Love how Na Hee Do is so passionate about fencing and she works hard to achieve her goal which is becoming the national athlete. Somehow watching this drama is encouraging me to try as hard as Na Hee Do too in life. What a great story and full of encouragement.

Anyway, I watched episode 5 and the phone scene is literally one of my favorite scene. It's making me in tears. Hee Do and Yi Jin support to each other is amazing, the way they get stronger after hearing each other voices. I hope they will meet soon. Looking forward to every episodes, this drama is highly recommended!!

It's been so long I've watched an ongoing drama, I usually just wait and binge but omg I just couldn't help it I had to start it immediately, now waiting every week feels like torture. The fact that they provide comfort to another and their support for each other is still being hold in their hearts no matter how much time has passed and no matter how far away they are, that's what has got into me. I lost it and I really cried when I saw Baek Yi Jin kept on replaying Hee Do's message and when he grab Hee Do's hand and they run together even though that was just symbolic. I think today's episode is realistic compared to previous ones where it has been really dreamy. Today's episode is bittersweet. No giggles, but just my heart goes to those people who keeps on fighting and dreaming and providing comfort to one another.

I also wanted to talk to Yi Jin to stop blaming himself and to stop saying he was a coward for running away, no matter what a person wants to runaway, he will not do it unless the problem is not that big.

In 2001, Hee Do and Yi Jin were separated in good terms. Finally time gave opportunity for Yi Jin to pursue his dream as reporter (he was in broadcast club right?). They were dating maybe just for a brief moment when Hee Do finished her high school. Then, they separated to pursue their own dreams, which was what they promise each other in the beginning of their friendship.

Sensing this made me feel extremely sad, but I could see how this drama could be heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It will bring so much emotions and memories so I think we should definitely prepare ourselves.

- after watching ep.4 I though BYJ might be alive today but having no idea that he has a kid with NHD after they separated. NHD stop fencing because of her pregnant. Kim Min Chae knew the family's secret and realized how much her mother love her then choose to dance again. I hope the ending will be the scene that Kim Min Chae brings her parents together again by calling BYJ "Appa" (Dad).. then the secret revealed..

This drama gets you hooked so fast because of its light and heartwarming story and characters. Its nice that its in a 90s setting and the characters have a really nice dynamic with each other. The first 2 episodes shows amazing script, cinematography, directing and its plot. I cant wait for more episodes. Waiting 2 episodes a week feels like a month of wanting to watch it.

2421 Feb 21 2022 1:16 am So heedo's daughter Saw Baek yijin's photo but didn't know who he was, meaning he's not her father. Also heedo's mum said she Saw yijin last mum and heedo immediately had like a shocked expression, this confirms that Na hee do and baek yi jin are not together in the present timeline. I'm totally disappointed. But I can't help but wonder who the father of Kim min chae is, why did yijin and heedo break up? Why haven't we seen heedo's husband or maybe she never got married and Kim minchae is adopted. There's a lot we still don't know, hoping for a plot twist and somehow heedo and yijin are together because I don't think I can handle it if they aren't.

Though of course it's too early to tell 4 episodes in - this drama could end up a classic if it keeps up the good work! And would be a cool meta joke if they have Red Velvet's Yeri and Wendy showing up somehow lol

Kim taeri is one kind of actress that did complete transformation when she act, from expression, delivery lines to single detail of gesture she never fail to bring her character alive. I wish other project would ponder more throughly and pick the most suited actress/actor with quality for their project. Spring Feb 19 2022 6:48 pm Kim tae ri is very impressive in expressing all emotions specially sadness, disappointment etc. She has the ability to give micro expressions which right now in korean tv n drama industry only handful of actors, and that too in age groups from 38+ to 40+ and mainly males, do. Nam ju hyuk was also better in this episode compared to first 2 though at times you want him to be more animated. I seriously seriously dont like adult na hee do actresse's acting. No disrespect to her but she seems very shrieky ,yelling and out of place with an unconvincing dialogue delivery. Shes a successful musical actress so i am surprised why she is not fitting the role here. That cute classmate is also very cool. Go yu rim is okayish but looks pretty.

Steve Feb 19 2022 11:25 am Kim Tae-Ri is a joy to watch and she really shines in this drama. Bona not so much. Bona is not an actor - at least not yet. She has one expression and it's as if she is thinking about being somewhere other than the scene she is in. A good example is the scene towards the end of episode 3 when Hee-Do and Yu-Rim are getting scolded by their senior in the gym. You can see the anger, frustration and dejection in Kim Tae-Ri's face, but you can tell nothing by looking at Bona. Her characters talks about enduring, but her face is expressionless. The face and body are tools that good actors use to reveal their characters' motives and convey the meaning of the scene.

Sunshine Feb 18 2022 8:29 pm There was a line in ep 2 that was so true and hurt me instead of touching me. It was when yijin says to heedo " i miss those the worries i used to have it" . When i was a kid i faced a rough patch which was rough but not big deal , but i used to excessively worry about things to the point of nearly exploding my head,every lil thing would be a worry to m tho life was good , it was just that i focused on bad things like thats the universe like manipulative shtty people etc etc. Then few years later i actually actually hit a real rough patch and things were very hard that even back yijins worries seem like a joke to me ( they aren't a joke at all but just to give some perspective) it was so difficult; at that time i used to look back all the time at those years that i always thought were hard and i realized they were extremely easy and then i used to cry and cry and badly miss some of the worries that i used to bother so much about in past, they looked so much fun and ordinary small things to care about. I made it out of rough phase,things normalized and i gained success but that nostalgic feeling and that pain i used to feel recalling those worries never left me ,probably also because they became lessons for me to learn to be always grateful and happy.

I always thought its me who thinks this way , but when yijin said that it brought back flurry of memories and i felt happy that someone also thought like it and actually put those thoughts of mine and many others in words.

What i learnt from even cherishing those worries was always stay happy, be grateful, try to enjoy your life and never give in to worries and despair no matter how blocked your paths are or how hard the going is. There is always a thing darker then your current worries,be happy you are not facing an even dark thing.

I felt all kinds of emotion already in just 2 episodes thats why i do feel sad and nervous already for its ending. I think this is how great this kdrama that im afraid for its ending already. Korean fan Feb 16 2022 8:52 pm I have a theory about Heedo and Yijin's future relationship (disclaimer: this is only my opinion). In ep. 1 Adult Heedo has a daughter named Kim Minchae. They may not be marrying each other since Heedo's daughter's surname is Kim, not Baek. Or Heedo's daughter might be adopted and used her daughter's biological parents's surname. I cant wait to watch next episodes and see how Baek Yijin and Na Heedo's relationship progress.

She is actually an adult if we use international age, in my country 17 (18 in korea) is a college freshman. Plus don't worry the writer won't develop their relationship into romantic couple until she graduates from highschool.

i tell the truth Feb 15 2022 4:14 am I’m loving this drama so far because it’s so funny and entertaining but the female second lead (go yu rim) is so annoying and her acting is so poor especially in episode 2 when she cried in front of baek yi jin.. her expression is so flat when she cried and her tone is kinda awkward

Spring Feb 14 2022 1:37 am I think injeolmi the chat bud is go yurim. I never knew kim tae ri is 32 i thought she was 24 , she fitted high schooler role so perfectly. If i knew her age beforehand i might have grown age bias too, a 32 playing 18 and i would have failed to judge her performance on merit. Not knowing age made me only focus on her and she meshed in so well. What i am not liking in na hee is constant yelling, she yells too much it hurts my head, it is because maybe how her director told her to do and how her character is like but i will appreciate less yelling. Apart from that she is doing very good job.

What i am noticing ,strictly speaking of only leads, is that even though so far nahee had more screentime than yi jin and it is more like her lifestory and that could be why she overshone him but still kim tae ri is hardcarrying the show due to her great performance to the point that nam jo hyuk seems almost invisible. Njh is a good actor but not exceptional and offlately he has been getting casted opposite skilled actors like kim seon ho, kim tae ri and he totally gets overshadowed. At times i didn't even remember that he is even there in show, all i was focusing on kim tae ri as she totally stole the show. Baek yi jin seems like a plot device to nahee to take forward her story , it is more of a young woman's story than a story of two people.

Very entertaining first 2 episodes, hopefully it will continue being so cool. It had a our beloved summers vibe but better than that.

Pat Feb 13 2022 7:02 pm Was a bit worried that Kim Tae-Ri would stand out in a negative way because of her age, but wow she did a great job so far! If you haven't heard of her, you probably wouldn't even guess that she's over 30. There's nothing cringe about older actors playing a younger role as long as they do it justice. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes.

Crystal Feb 13 2022 4:32 pm Even if min chae aint his daughter i dont care as story of their youth matters more than they got married or not, that is because the youth period in first ep is written so well that right now you feel no complaints about daughter being another man's child. A great story of their youth is what overrides everything else for me. The storytelling in 1st ep is very breezy and fresh. Very nice 1st episode. Seeing nam joo hyuk i feared their will appear desker product placement, im badly traumatised by namdosan character and its link with desker,glad no desker here.

Very fun 1st episode , at some places cinematography was very great. Though i found both na hee do and her daughter's attitude towards respective moms very rude. I don't believe that being a parent's child means you should be fully obedient but you don't have to be so rude and yelling at them.

Ari Feb 13 2022 3:01 pm The fact that her daughter's name is kim turned me off a little but then I thought that if her name was baek then we would have a very predictable ending I think he might have changed his surname so he is not involved in his father's business. Also I find the fact that taeri and joohyuk are four years apart with taeri being a noona really cute and ironic since in the drama they're four years apart with joohyuk being the oppa. The only thing that is a little annoying to me is the age gap between the main leads and choi hyun wook . I understand that koreans tend to put 25+ year old actors to play high school students but they at least should have kept it like that with the rest of the cast. I'm not saying that the leads don't look young it's just kinda odd. Other than that I think the first 2 episodes were really good and im looking forward to the rest

This drama will surely talk about nostalgia of youthfulness, first love and dream. Of course it has a Reply series vibe : Who's the father ?

Maybe he changed his name or something. Also if her daughters name was baek min hae, everyone would instantly know the end up together, maybe the writers don't want to make it so predictable. Let's just keep an open mind, I hope they up together because they're so cute.
