"Our Blues " follows a group of people on Jeju island.

Lee Dong-Seok (Lee Byung-Hun) was born in a small village on Jeju Island. He now sells stuff from his truck on the island. He is not a sophisticated man. Lee Dong-Seok then gets involved with Min Seon-A (Shin Min-A), who has just moved to Jeju. She has her own story which nobody knows.

Choi Han-Su (Cha Seung-Won) was born and raised on Jeju Island, but he moved away to the mainland. He has now returned to his hometown. He is a perfect city man. He meets his first love Jung Eun-Hui (Lee Jung-Eun). She runs a fishing store on the island. She is friends with Ko Mi-Ran (Uhm Jung-Hwa). Ko Mi-Ran has returned to her hometown in Jeju, because she got tired of the tough city life.

Lee Yeong-Ok (Han Ji-Min), who moved to Jeju Island, has been a haenyeo (female diver) for the past year. She is a bright person, but many rumors follow her around. She meets Park Jeong-Jun (Kim Woo-Bin), who is a fishing boat captain. He is a man with a warm heart and he is looking for a woman who will not leave Jeju. He falls in love with Lee Yeong-Ok.

Seun Mar 11 2025 6:03 am Started watching this series when it first aired in 2022 but stopped halfway cause I found the pace was too slow and somewhat bored.

Continued watching the remaining episodes now and I regretted that I could not finished watching it earlier ;((

This series is beautifully written and really relate to anyone. The characters, the storyline are all well described.

The last few episodes really got me 펑펑 crying. From episode Yeong-hui and Young-ok to the last episode.

It's good that the writer put Young-hui character in this series to break stigma on Syndrome Down people.

I always pitied Ok-dong whenever Dong-seok treated her badly but when knowing their story, we can try to understand from both side. Ok-dong seemed to be very affected by the death of her husband and daughter and she life also did not seem to be by her side til the day she died that made her treat Dong-seok that way and judging by how Dong-seok treated her mother in the last few episodes showed that he really missed to be around his mother, missing her hugs and cooks.

After all, this slice of life series is very much recommended to watch. Every episode is fun and there is so much we can learn from each of the characters.

Even people we think that they have it easy have their own problems. Friendship, loyalty, love, past, present, judging, condemning, ....

I like to watch series in which Shin min-A plays. She adds something and doesn't act childish like some other actors. She acts very maturely, a breath of fresh air to watch.

When it was going on, lots of people said it was good but I wasn't interested, now I'm watching it because I was first curious about Jimin doing one of the OSTs for this drama, the song is good, the drama is also good

AK May 12 2024 2:04 pm A very moving and varied drama with great actors. One of the best dramas I ever saw. Interesting relationships between the characters. The saying in the credits is very endearing and apt: "we are not on this earth to suffer", or something like that. Yes, that's the conclusion you should draw from these stories. Really great drama with so many good actors that I can really recommend it to everyone.

Outstanding! One of the best Korean dramas I've seen to date. This is a remarkable cast--heavy hitters in the industry. Phenomenonal acting coupled with a superb script and filming makes for a masterpiece. On the serious side, remarkably emotional (grab a tissue box), and deep. Not the shallower happy light-hearted series type.

The main themes: relationships of all types (sibling, romantic, friendship, community-wide, etc), overcoming adversity, working class, poverty, healing from trauma.

Picture a deep-dive (pun intended, IYKYK) into the lives of 10+ natives of countryside Jeju island, South Korea. Each episode is a chapter into the lives of 2-4 characters and unearths interpersonal conflict, past trauma, and ultimately resolution/healing. The stories are deep starting with poverty/debt/infidelity to teenage unplanned pregnancy to struggling disabilities (ex. depression, down syndrome, deafness). The director/writer did an exceptional job of avoiding pandering and playing into stereotypical tropes. Instead, we had beautiful authentic stories told by those who struggle themselves. We learn that life's challenges will come at us with full force, and we have options: resentment, dwell on nostalgia and what could have been, regret, misery; or forgiveness, living in the present moment, love, and gratitude.

For those who have experienced loss, broken or difficult friendships, unconventional relationships, or any other type of adversity, this series will evoke understanding and empathy.

Tough to pick my favorites, but I'll have to say Lee Jung-Eun (from the movie Parasite) who is a pillar as she's in every episode, and Park Ji-Hwan as In-gwon who as a fun, playful, and comedic performance to the show.

Short of a 10 due to the ending: preferred a less cheesy culminating event, trying too hard to create a happy ending where everyone wins. I felt the natural closures of each character's arc was beautiful and sufficient enough.

Nonetheless, this is a must watch and all-time-favorite!

jaeiii Oct 06 2023 5:09 am I just finished it and it's the first time that i loved a 'Slice of Life' Kdrama, it's as typically boring for me but in Our blues, it's diffirent. I was always anticipating the next ep and now that i finished watching it, it's my fave. I also like how no one was a Main lead, bcs for me everyone are, and it's one of the reason why i loved it. It's a lil shamed that inonly watched it now (cuz i'm really not a fan of byung-hun and i thought he's are the ml here) but still, i'm satisfied that i've watched it, and now i'm lookingnfor something to watch but i think i still have Our Blues - fever hahaha. Salute to the casts, and staff :)

As always, I had to process the flood of emotion & intellectual curiosity it evoked in me. The givens: a screen play that unapologetically and often in a raw manner examines domestic violence, family dysfunction, the emotional/physical life of a person born with Down’s syndrome, bullying, teenage pregnancy, child abuse, aging, the impact of severe poverty; a handpicked cast of some of the best actors K Drama has to offer (main characters & supporting); direction by a MASTER CRAFTSMAN with clarity of vision, technically flawless in his filmmaking skills through his understanding of the power & potential of his actors & filmmaking components…whose clarity of the human condition is treated with deep respect & affection; Cinematographers who walk in lockstep & execute through their technicals skills & shared vision with the director. These are just the givens & accolades other reviewers share with us. What seemed new, unexpected, deeply emotional to me some how Was the following: as I kept moving through the drama episode by episode I actually envisioned I felt the breath of each character/actor at certain emotional moments on my face & into my heart, the use of momentary closeups for these consummate brilliant actors caught the genius of their performance; “chemistry” doesn’t come close to describing what this director coaxed out of each set of actors on screen…it was breathtaking watching actors in the moment show us why they were chosen; some of the episodes were jaw dropping raw but ultimately so well & respectfully crafted and finally the power of community at its worst and best..of the capacity for growth despite the pain of the human condition. The message and lessons from this drama are both complex and simple at the same time. With enormous gratitude to Everyone who had a part in the creation of this drama…Thank You!

Absolutely perfect in Every aspect. The acting is brilliant and the characters completely believable. It’s so heartening to see Kim Woo-bin acting again after his recent illness. The writers deserve congratulations for coming up with such moving stories. One story after the other brought tears to my eyes. Truly another amazing achievement from a blossoming movie and TV industry.

jG Jul 05 2022 2:12 am gawd damn this drama had me feeling some typpa wayyyy. 10/10. liked how it wasn’t fixated on one thing. it was the whole towns stories and how they all evolved eventually and found the light. they all over came the hardships of their lives and the people of the town helped them get through it. i don’t say this typpa shi but it was deada** heartwarming. my bae kim tae hyung said it was amazing too so how can you not love ?

I’ve cried most of the episodes. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the first guys story but everyone else’s is really good and is pulling at my heart strings. Can’t wait to watch more

One drama I was very sad when it ended. So many lessons to learn. The actors were all too good very natural. I have seen Lee Byung Hyun really in Mr Sunshine -, liked him very much. Shin Min A - love her she is really good- Kim Woo Bin is a very good actor- I am glad he has recovered and is back. Wish him all the best. First time the script writer/ producer/ director all have done a superb job. Thumbs up for them. I need mire Dramas like this one. All the best to the whole cast. ?

I guess she's very selective in receiving offers due to her age but i am glad all her recent dramas are masterpiece.

Am glad I did not dropped the series. I usually criticize the producers/directors/scriptwriters for high in weed or drunk when making the series but obviously this series wasnt one of it. Was really happy that there is such series in the 2022.

There is a lot of lesson to be learnt here. Happiness, sadness is all here and its a wonderful drama.

The storytelling, the plot, the OST...all are top class.

I really like Reply 1988, but now I have another favorite which is the same level as that drama.

There is definitely a lot of sadness and melancholy but much more joy and happiness in the stories told. it is very realistic and important themes in life are addressed. I really loved the physical and social context of the setting in Jeju Island, this made me think about how life in the islands is magical and looks alike all over the world (I am from Sicily). Our Blues is a masterpiece among k-dramas!!!?

Wanted to see the teenagers with their baby coping with life, if Shin Min AB’s character got to keep her son. Lee Byung Hun brilliant, showed a new side. Shin Min Ah has developed since Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Han Ji Min and Lee Jung Eun Eun standouts, Kim Woo Bin just beginning to get his confidence back after a break, he was nervous. Really interesting stories with great direction. Diving spectacular. Needed one more episode. ❤️

All the couples in this drama deserve best couple awards. Some parts are even hard to watch because it was so real.

@Come on: I agree with you. Poverty is no joke. Even the slapping, I somewhat get what she tried to do. Dongseok was not allowed to call her mother in that household. That was how it was done. Even for crown princes, they couldn't call their mother, they had to call the queen 'mother'.

Tulipaa Jun 12 2022 6:20 pm Saw so many comments hating Ok-dong, yes you can hate her but at the same time try to stand in her shoes. She was a young lady with 2 kids her husband died she has no education and never worked her entire life she depended on her late husband and had two mouths to feed.

She was left with 2 choice: 1)Humiliate herself and feed her kids or 2)Killing herself leaving 1 orphan behind.

She chose to feed her son and in order to do so her son had to make sacrifies too, she choose to be an adult and not a mother what is most important in a human life ? Food.

Nothing will justify her slapping the shit out of him but one of her child died working, she feared for her son life the last family member she has. Thus she became a mistress and gave a house and studies to her son. Im with DS but I also understand the mother life ! Poverty is no joke.

RamenLover Jun 12 2022 2:24 pm For myself, "Our Blues" was just a magical experience. Twice every week for the past 2 and 1/2 months, time would just stand still for roughly an hour and 15 minutes. During that time, the end of the world could have occurred outside my window and I wouldn't notice anything but what's shown on my monitor. Every single character, was scripted to amaze with particular flaws and goodness. The performances just so on the money, that after a while they don't seem to be acting. A truly unforgettable drama series that equally entertains and inspires. This goes up there with the best I have ever watched.

This must be the best KDrama in history as every actor regardless of their fame and experience could hook me to watch their acting skills come into play and empathise with their roles. At times, it’s just heart wrenching to watch the characters and story unfold on the TV screen. The scenes were all etched in my mind that I couldn’t bring myself to watch them again on Netflix. This is the true magic of a good script and the hardwork of all the cast of Our Blues. Bravo!!!

How they build up the stories utterly incredible, the stories are emotionally and beautifully depicted. The ending also really satisfying n beautiful. I never cry on kdrama this much, this drama make my heart ache so much. Definitely masterpiece

I can relate to the issues about love, friendship, family, finances and most especially love for my mom..though i am not korean its no different to what we have here in manila. I cried alot on the last two episodes and always make me remind to always show how much you love your parents while theyre still alive..hope to have more touching series like this in the future. They also give chances to all actors to shine on their on way thru their own story on each episode.. Congrats i enjoyed watching all of it

Hope the Awards people recognise their efforts. Drama depicts warm community in a fishing village but not without its share of human communication problems. Very realistic in casting a few “special” people as supporting actors in episodes 14 & 15. However, it’s a shame ratings are not that high for such a good show.

How did they get Han Ji Min, Lee Jung Eun, Lee Byung Hun, Kim Kwang Kyu all in our line up then throw in Shin Min Ah and a come back for Kim Woo Bin, it’s so very well done. Some side parts like the pregnant teens and the Downs girl just add to it. Delicately directed. The seniors on the boat are great, recognise many of them. I’m on episode 15 and hope we get the end of their story with their 2 Dads, also great. Scenes of the fish market and underwater so realistic.

It entails different stories between friendships and family relationships, very interesting since these scenarios actually do happen in our daily lives. Probably not what we have personally encountered or are currently experiencing in our lives, but it does happen a lot to the people around us. All these little details that constantly remind us about appreciating what we have now, appreciating and caring for our friends and closed ones. Every actor/actress played their roles and portrayed their characteristics perfectly. I've been crying at each episodes ever since ep3 onwards.

Kim Woo Bin is out of practice acting but he is with such a brilliant partner that she can help him shine. The two teenagers are great and have a fascinating story. Of course Lee Jung Eun can do anything, she is so versatile. Underwater shots very clever. Love the parallel stories. Great work Netflix and JTBC.

They keep playing the question again, and again, and again, but not the response. I’m at the point where I don’t care anymore. I’m ready to quit this show, it’s too annoying. Hold it back once, maybe twice, but it’s been three or four times now, enough. We get it, she was hurt by the response. Never mind, I’m done with this series, don’t bother starting it…

So well written and directed. Lee Byung Hun, Shin Min Ah, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Ning Eun. Han Ji Min, sure I left some out, How did the director get such a great cast together. Jeju Island is always mentioned in K dramas, so lovely to see it as the backdrop, Just love it so far. Not sure who you praise the most.

No hee kyung is an amazing writer ,, he attacked the perplex teen pregnancy story line with a flying colors , bravo , job well done . It was touching , plausible, passionate and tear jerking storyline about a serious but an actual occurrence in teens’ lives . He handled relationships and the reactions to the teen pregnancy and their future amongst the parties involved with so much temperamental yet tenderness with a little sympathetic edge . It was a wow . Great job, let’s not underestimate the two fathers and the two teen actors and their director , bravo

The portrayal of those of us who work every day to make a life for our self as well as our children is outstanding seeing Lee Byung Hun stepping away from my wonderful Mr Sunshine to average guy who cares but god forbid show his caring is terrific. Lee Jung run carried the first episodes. Show me a woman who doesn’t on occasion think of her first love. These episodes are so real to the average person. Loving it

Mother of Dragons May 03 2022 7:29 am I like this drama! It is so realistic and gives lesson to all the viewers. I agree with one of the commenters here that the arc of SMA and LBH is quite boring. As much as I love those two actors, somehow I cannot see their chemistry and their story is dull (even if it is not yet explored). I just wish to see more of the Romeo and Juliet story with their fathers personal issue :P also the development of KWB and HJM relationship and of course the back story of LBH and his mother!

James Apr 25 2022 8:15 pm I can't believe how little fanfare this show gets. This honestly is a pinnacle of Korean television. The subjects that the show focuses on is amazing. How broken and real the characters feel. Like I'm actually looking into their lives. There's no over-dramatizations, no ridiculous plot lines like corporate espionage or blah blah. One of the common criticisms I see is that the story line is depressing. Imagine having that critique for a notable film like "Citizen Kane". Clearly, you're not the intended audience. I understand that some people watch Kdrama for escapism and fantasy. But this, this is art that doesn't provide any of that fluff. This is genuinely the first Kdrama in a long time that feels like it was made for specifically an adult audience in mind and it doesn't pander to any superfluous whims. The best way I can explain the show is a simple melancholy. Just absolutely beautiful.

Platform9&3/4 Apr 24 2022 1:50 pm How is this under 90% rating? Because some people don't like sad/depressing stories? lol. Probably one of the best dramas I've seen this year up until now (ep 6). Pretty Expensive cast tbh (all very good veteran actors and some new ones), there hasn't been a main main couple yet (but I think it's getting there). Multiple people/couples meeting each other at different moments in life showing different perspectives, not everything is a story pulled out of a fairytale. Lots of funny moments, some sad ones, some realistic... all that behind a beautiful scenery in Jeju Island.

in any case, it benefits kdrama fans. a trunk load of fun to watch.
