Nam Joong-Do (Park Hee-Soon) and Kim Hye-Joo (Kim Hyun-Joo) are a married couple. Nam Joong-Do is a member of the National Assembly and he is driven to make the world a better place. His wife Kim Hye-Joo runs a book repair shop. She hides a secret, which even Nam Joong-Do does not know. Kim Hye-Joo wants a peaceful and normal life. Even though her husband is a politician, Kim Hye-Joo has never sought publicity or appeared in the media. Due to a case, Kim Hye-Joo's secret becomes public.

"Trolley" takes over the SBS Monday & Tuesday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "Cheer Up" and followed by "The Secret Romantic Guesthouse" on March 20, 2023.
Kim Sae-Ron was first cast to play Kim Soo-Bin, but dropped out of the drama series after getting into a single-vehicle accident and later apologizing for driving under the influence of alcohol. She dropped out of the drama series prior to filming any scenes.
Ep.11 & 12 will not air during the lunar holiday weekend of January 23rd & 24th, 2023 and instead air a week later on January 30th & 31st, 2023.

So burn is one thing but this drama drags on too freaking long. Could have ended within 12 episodes. Interesting story line but just too draggy going round and round.

King Pup 1722 May 12 2024 10:46 am Finally watched it on Amazon Prime. The series is a slow burn, moving along at an unhurried pace. Ultimately the story reveals a few unexpected twists and turns, though I won’t be able to say it’s an excellent top notch show.

The two main protagonists in the story is the politician Park Hee-Soon and his wife Kim Hyun-Joo. The role that Park plays is a complex one, he seems to be a man who’s honest by nature but he has no reservations about lying if it helps him to achieve his political goals, which in the show, is to be able to enact legislation that is for the greater good of victims in sex crimes. It is a noble cause and he’s not doing it for personal financial benefits but he nevertheless is willing to engage in dishonest behaviour to push through the legislation.

His wife is played by Kim. It’s not a comment on her acting performance but on the story line because her role shows her spending much of the time in self-pity, having a victim mentality, unwilling to stand up for herself when she’s being accused wrongly by others, and basically living like a loser.

The story line however manages to transform her into a stubborn-headed person at the end of the series who decides to publicly reveal a sex crime that her husband committed years ago and kill off his political career, and by doing so, buries any hope of having a legislation that supports the rights of victims of sex crimes.

It’s the equivalent of a spouse who tells her other half, I don’t care that you’re trying to do an act that will benefit hundreds of victims of sex crimes in the future, I have to reveal that you committed a sex crime yourself many years ago. Wow, is that realistic? And the story line is that the husband has been protective and supportive of the wife all through the years when she’s been emotionally suffering due to an incident years ago. I personally find the ending to be unrealistic.

Park Min Apr 27 2024 9:34 pm They had a solid idea for a drama but they were totally clueless for how to fit it into a 16 episodes mold. The trolley dilemma was a poor idea to implement in the drama. They were afraid that the viewers may not notice so they went ahead to explain the trolley dilemma multiple times. The FL's kid was learning about it with visuals in school. Kinda insulting. Its finale execution of this analogy turned out to be disappointing and bland, especially after shoving it in our faces endlessly and having the drama named after it. Anyway, the drama was plagued by narrative and writing problems, especially with its horrible and dysfunctional characterization.

TGrant Aug 24 2023 4:32 pm OMG, I love KDramas but this was the worst one. I could not finish it and turned it off after the 14th episode. It gave me such an uneasy feeling, felt like I couldn't even breath. I don't care how good the actors were, the story was just horrible!

The acting of the cast was superb but soo-bin. I mean, she puts on the same facial expression throughout the drama. And honestly, I don't get the point of her barging in the house of the couple and claim she's pregnant with the couple's son. I still can't figure out her purpose until the end of the story. But then, maybe it was her goal to approach hye joo.

Jaine May 25 2023 11:20 am @jasjit I agree. Weak story telling. I can’t watch it any more even though others rave. Why? Because the mom’s secrecy came off as unfeeling in all her social interactions, to make sure no one knows who she is. That is boring with no back story. Her affect is flat! She then sits in the same room with this pregnant girl as if she is in a train station waiting for her ride, minding her own business, and then is mad at her husband because he doesn’t want to help the girl. So far only flat or mad. Ok she cried when the daughter showed up. But what draws us in? I can’t hope for a change after no glimpse of her having something to believe in about her after an hour and a half wondering. Just not believable. Also not believable that when looking for the daughter none of the cafe group was contacted. Also not believable is that there is no rapport between the dad and son and no flashbacks on his side to justify his disdain for his son. Also not believable is the zero effort to talk to even one of his other friends to verify the pregnant girl and lastly zero believability on his drunkenness in ep. 2 when I gave up trying to keep watching. He wants to look good to the public but gets too drunk to stand? So weird.

B. A. Apr 09 2023 8:14 pm Another great South Korean TV drama. The idea of the “trolley dilemma”, seems strange but reflects also well the reality of those victims of sexual crimes. If you seek justice, you are not sure to get it, but will be victimised again and again in the process.

lyn Apr 08 2023 7:43 pm This drama is SO powerful. The writer should win an award for it. The whole drama is about the trolley dilemma. Every decision they made was about the trolley dilemma. Every one when given the problem would sacrifice the one to save the majority but this drama highlighted the injustice for the one that was sacrifice. Also brings to light the moral issue of who are we to decide whether we pull the lever or not,who are we to decide who we are to sacrifice for the majority?

Highly recommended. Best drama so far for 2023- makes you think at the end of the drama.

Renwa Mar 27 2023 6:32 pm Trolley is a worthy drama but somehow difficult to review. Uncharacteristically I waited a week to write this review. The screenwriter had much to say and thusly included a jam packed agenda of themes...maybe diluting some objectives. With respect to my fellow reviewers, I felt let down that the subject of sexual assault didn’t receive serious notice thereby distorting an understanding or lack thereof the main characters. Were we all watching the same drama? Do others care about this scourge? The response & management of trauma individually, developmentally, historically, politically and more varies in ways we sometimes cannot anticipate. I too got irritated with the early meek FL but of course came to other conclusions during the trajectory of the drama. It did well as a suspense drama but as well as a docudrama when focused on sexual assault. Overall, the acting was excellent. Forgive some of the slower moments. Again, a worthy drama to watch.

It was boring - new what was going to happen- the young girl didnt have to be there just added. I liked the idea of the proposal that NamJong wanted to bring forward and make a law that anyone who has been molested and if the molester dies can still fight the case . Kim should have waited a bit get the bill passed and then done what she wanted to . A weak story telling. What about the daughter- it was sad what she had to face.

It was just okay. Skipped through a lot.

sf Mar 07 2023 2:01 pm Since the teacher asked the students to find the proper solution to the trolley problem, I asked myself if the trolley had a horn. It would not be any accident if the trolley had a horn. The parallel with the plot would have been that it would not be any drama in that family if Hyeon Yeo-Jin would have left the house immediately after her accident. Even now, I don't understand why she remains in that house. The family tragedy happened because of her.

If you're looking for super perfect character then this is not for you, even Kim Do Ki of taxi driver whose like a superman even have a trauma.. still excellent acting from the casts, if you're annoyed to many characters here meaning the acting really worked out to you too

At first you would really find her character gullible because that's how the character is and she made people believe who's watching the show that she is that kind of person. It's the same when you're mad at villains. She acted it very well, I love how her character progress through out the show. I love how this show was written which is based on "Trolley Problem". It would really made you feel the dilemma of decision making. I love the ending since it was emotionally and morally satisfying. This is now one of my favorite show.

One can only hope for more revelations and a positive ending.Looking forward to the next sequel. Contrary to other opinions, I find the psyche and actions of Kim Hyun - Joo believable. A traumatized person is always on his/her guard suffering in silence behaving out of character, until a new and not anticipated event occurs, and the bubble finally bursts. The gloomy atmosphere is reminiscent of Graham Greene's film 'The Honorary Consul'.

The world of politics are exposed in this drama. You feel the pain of Hye Joo . So interverted because of her past but she hides her pain.. it's tragic unfolding in each episode. Her daughter is a tad bit too much but no one guides her. Got this with Netflix I cannot take the once a week episode release. It's not good for the end user

The acting is impressive from all the cast and I would recommend watching but it certainly isn’t light hearted or uplifting. I await the final episode with some trepidation!

Every family should still live on their own, but in kdramas, everyone wants to be together, and those who, in my opinion, have a good life and their own apartment or house are rather pitied.

They could rent a studio for her and let her live there until the child will be born. There are too many things in this drama that seem forced. And another thing, Soo-Bin talks and moves always in slow-motion like a turtle.

Soo Bin kinda fishy too, but maybe she is detective in disguise or a girl who want to take on revenge. On the other hand, behind that melancholism from Hye Joo, I think she will stand up & get together with Soo Bin to pay back to those who hurt her family including Jong Doo.

I don’t trust the Soobin character, Hyejoo is so gullible she actually believes this girl’s story. Being pregnant with Jihoon’s baby. Maybe it has to do with her secret. I’m interested so far but this could get annoying.
