Do Hae-Yi (Han Ji-Hyun) is a student at Yonhee University. She is a bright and diligent person. Because of her family's poor financial situation, she places a priority on making money rather than school. One day, Do Hae-Yi suddenly joins cheering squad Theia. She only joins the club for money. The cheering squad has existed for 50 years at Yeonhee University. While participating in the cheering squad, Do Hae-Yi experiences the joy of campus life and meets various people from Theia including Park Jung-Woo (Bae In-Hyuk), Jin Sun-Ho (Kim Hyun-Jin), Tae Cho-Hee (Jang Gyu-Ri), Joo Sun-Ja (Lee Eun-Saem ) and Bae Young-Woong (Yang Dong-Geun). Bae Young-Woong was once a member of Theia and he is an alumnus of Yonhee University. He supports the cheering squad financially and emotionally.

"Cheer Up" takes over the SBS Monday & Tuesday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "Woori The Virgin" and followed by "Trolley" on December 19, 2022.
Ep. 9 & 10 will not air on October 31st and November 1st, 2022. A one week delay in broadcasting is due in consideration to a national mourning period for the tragedy that occurred in Itaewon, Seoul on October 29th, 2022.
Ep.9 will air Tuesday, November 8, 2022 due to broadcasting of a Baseball Korea Series game on Monday, November 7, 2022.
Ep. 12-14, which were originally scheduled to air week of November 21st & 22nd and week of November 28, 2002, will instead air from November 29, 2022. The delay is due to broadcasting matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

If this two doesn't work out because they are not the main lead couple here, everything is a mess up here. They have more chemistry than the main lead for sure!! Nakakabwisit na kung hindi talaga sila magkatuluyan???

I love this drama. Not stressful and actors are good. It's my 1st time to watch kdrama with unfamiliar lead characters to me. I enjoyed every episode. And I love it! ♥️

Hoping for Sun Ho and Hae Yi next project. Though I like Jung Woo, I'm still hooked with Sun Ho. ?

More drama for the lead actors pleaseeee.

I've recently just finished the series, and I'm really surprised that it was getting a few hate comments, and a Lot of complaints regarding the main leads.

I knew some of Bae In Hyuk's shows, but haven't gotten the chance to watch them yet, so this was the first time that i actually got to watch him. And i was surprised to find myself more attracted to him than to the more attractive Sun Ho (yes, I'm referring to the character, not the actor who played him).

There's this certain charm to In Hyuk's character and how he portrayed it that i just could not see in Sun Ho. And while i do agree that Sun Ho had a better character development throughout the series, I still wouldn't say that Jung Woo was bland and boring though.

[SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't seen the show]

> Realistically speaking, I'd prefer a guy like Jung Woo over a guy like Sun Ho anytime. Jung Woo was smart, diligent, sincere, and really did try to put everyone's best interest first. And while he may have been harsh on Hae Yi a couple of times, and it's not that I'm justifying it, but i kind of understand that he was only doing what he thought was right, considering he holds a big responsibility over the team. Also, he apologized for most of it without sounding as if he's trying to make an excuse. The only thing he did that i would probably consider a really bad thing was when he constantly lied to his mother about his academics... And the fact that he didn't even tell her about the cheering squad. (I mean, i also wouldn't wanna report everything that happens to me to my parents, but i also wouldn't wanna hide something so important to them.) He could've atleast considered her feelings, and trusted that she'd understand him. She could've even supported him.

Welp, that's sorted out anyway.

> Hae Yi might not have been the best female lead either, but Han Ji Hyun served. That's a fact. I liked her micro expressions, no matter how squeaky and annoying. She delivered exactly what it's like to be in Hae Yi's age (childish and loud around friends), an adult (strict and nagging towards her brother, assumed responsibility over her family's finances), and as a child (as she goes through her fear of being abandoned by her mother). I'm not the biggest fan of The Penthouse, but i do find her performance there very impressive. And while her performance in Cheer Up didn't top that, I'd still say that she did the role well.

> Sun Ho had the same typical traits as the usual second male lead characters, so i didn't have much expectations for it, but Kim Hyun Jin was undeniably attractive, so i still got some heart-fluttering moments from him. Also, considering that Kim Hyun Jin and Han Ji Hyun are the same age irl, im assuming they're more comfortable around each other, which i believe they sort of showed on screen whether intentional or not.

> The routines, the performances were my favorite part of the show. Whenever they have a performance, i also imagine myself being one of the crowd, just headbanging in with everyone, dancing and singing along to Theia's perf. (TMI. I also dance, so imagining being able to perform in such huge crowds, i also felt their thrill and excitement. I was even proud of them at some point).

> Lastly. Writing. It had its moments-- some cute, some decent, some unnecessary, and some simply random. Still doesn't make the entire show bad though. Overall, 7.5/10 for me. Meaning, I'd probably rewatch it, but only for certain scenes.

Kelly Mar 23 2023 12:15 pm Maybr it all depends on one’s taste of kdrama. For me i loved the chemistry of female lead and thr captain. They looked better together than fl wd second male lead. Again, that is my opinion. Story is a good college drama, although i did not enjoy the cheering scenes, too long and not my kind of cheering. Female lead may seem annoying on some scenes but in general she was okay. She reminds me of lee sung kyung but of course i love lsk more. I just gave this drama a try and i liked it. Didn’t like the love triangle story. I just enjoyed it because i liked the chemistry of the main leads, supporting actress moms were good, its also a story that college students could relate on.

az Mar 03 2023 9:55 am I think it's kinda good college drama and I don't find the heroine annoying, she is funny and responsible. you know, the oldest sibling vibe. But the story is boring in the middle, especially the love triangle. Once it is sorted out, they catch up the pace. And, I like the ending. They show the future for everyone. not just the main.

KY Jan 11 2023 12:48 am This drama is more about youth/college life and finding yourself. The romance was lighthearted, so I think that's why many people were upset but I think it fit perfectly with the theme/genre of this drama.

Everyone had great chemistry and there many hilarious moments. Tbh, I liked the supporting characters more than the main leads, but that's just my opinion.

Don't bother for others who bad commenting due to their support for the 2nd lead character and just feel free to enjoy youth romance

Rc137 Dec 18 2022 1:37 pm I loved this this drama! I’ve rewatched the last 2 episodes twice already. So good and cheery. I really liked the lead actress. She (Han Ji-Hyun) is so pretty and talented. So “bright” and energetic despite having to be the “bread winner”. I’m going to miss her character (Do Hae Yi). Her acting was really good. I’d have to check out her other “credits”. Other than the psycho delusional stalker crazy person of the cheer squad, this was a “light”/fun drama that brings back memories about college life. I liked how the cheer squad’s focus was to get people hyped up about school spirit instead of focusing on doing a series of stunts. Highly recommend this drama and plan to rewatch.

Diva Dec 16 2022 12:12 pm This was the worst Kdrama on my 2022 list, they made suspense for nothing, lead actress forced to be nice, couples without chemistry. They tried to soften the bad "way" of this kdrama only in the final episode, which was super poorly prepared, the script was the worst. I was watching and skipping some parts, too boring. There are some actors who can be invested in other kdramas. I don't recommend!

P.S: This is just my opinion, you don't need agree with that!

jillian Dec 13 2022 7:07 am Han Ji-Hyun - I hate this FL here. Her acting is nowhere to find and scattered. Her character seems a little bit stupid ( pardon my word) and overacting. Bae In-Hyuk - I was able to watch him before from My Roommate is a Gumiho and At a Distance Spring is Green. I find him a good actor. That's why we look forward to watching this as well. However, this drama is not the kind that you may want to watch and recommend.

this series has so much potential but the writing is just awful, they forced the love triangle so much that it made the second lead from lovable character also called as second lead syndrome to the most hatable and annoying second lead..

the plot was interesting at first, but keeps going slower and slower, it's barely progressing. anyway, i still like it overall

I stopped watching at one point, and though maybe it might've changed and jumped back in. Nope. It just feels like they wanted to bring every typical kdrama storyline into this. There's no foundation to the drama.

Yeah right 2. Sun Ho studies well vs Captain bums around takes 1st year classes as a Senior 3. Sun Ho loves her mom vs Captain rebellious against her mom and doesn't want her mom to bring her home cooking like who does that??? 4. Sun Ho loves Hae Yi right from the beginning vs Captain who loves 3 girls (Yoo Min, rival cheerleader captain, Hae Yi) 5. Sun Ho helps Hae Yi's brother vs Captain doesn't give a shit 6. Sun Ho has chemistry with Hae Yi vs Captain tries so hard but is stiff and cringy I swear I fast foward those cringy parts 7. Sun Ho very friendly has a best buddy vs Captain fights with his cheerleading buddies I will add more if I think of something new to add

Jungwoo’s character is so flat and just….not that developed. Haeyi is better off single at this point lol.

While it is true that people grow and change, still we will never know. Are you willing to take that risk? On Haeyi's case, she clearly know who she wants. So stop pushing your ship and get your acts together hahahaa Cheer up is definitely, a Kdrama for GenZ. Don't ignore the red flags, teeners!

Aldrin Dec 01 2022 5:29 am I really liked this drama before. And to be honest, I stopped watching after Hae-yi chose Jung-Woo over Sun-Ho. I'm Team Sun-Ho, btw. But I think it's a mistake making Sun-Ho into a walking red flag. He doesn't have to be a bad guy. He was misunderstood at first and he already had his character development in the early episodes. I think the screenwriter realized that the viewers liked Sun-ho more than the lead actor.

honestly, I have nothing against Sunho, like irdc about him being the other guy in Haeyi's life. I even think it's ok if he ends up with Haeyi (if justified in the story), but all these comments saying that Sunho should end up with Haeyi just because Jungwoo "played" with her feelings? or because it's awkward to see Haeyi and Jungwoo together? that's kinda weird...? uhhh... at least Jungwoo doesn't throw a fit aka quitting the team just because a girl doesn't like her back?? at least Jungwoo doesn't use other girls to get over the girl he likes then dump them when convenient for him??? And at least Jungwoo doesn't take advantage of someone's drunk state then proceeds to kiss her??? there's no excuse at all for this, Unless she says they're ok with it. see, those are legit redflags which were done by who? yep, Sunho. so I don't think Sunho fans have the right to hate on Jungwoo because their fave is more problematic. and btw, if we change the scenario to Jungwoo kissing Haeyi while she's drunk, I won't defend him. that's very wrong and it'd be a redflag on him.

now, saying that Jungwoo "played with Haeyi's feelings" doesn't actually count as a reason not to be chosen. he didn't do it out of wanting to hurt her. he didn't really want to back out of confessing, remember? he thought about it. Haeyi's life was in danger. he thought it was a way to protect her (I'm also not happy with what he did tho, I believe it was a very bad move), but unfortunately, it hurt her.

oh, and if you're wondering why did Haeyi kissed Sunho back, let me tell you. that's because SHE'S DRUNK. "hmm but why was Haeyi deciding so hard between Sunho or Jungwoo? that means she also had feelings for Sunho." I beg to disagree. Haeyi likes Jungwoo to begin with. even if she knew Sunho likes her, Haeyi still likes Jungwoo. she even rejected him, right? Haeyi had a hard time choosing between them, NOT because she liked Sunho too, but probably because one of these reasons:

1. Haeyi unknowingly jailed herself to fact that they kissed, which confused herself into thinking that she likes him too. basically, if there's no kiss, there's nothing to talk about, Sunho won't even stand a chance.

2. Haeyi just felt conflicted choosing between two opposite guys: the guy who she likes and apparently likes her back but "played" with her feelings once vs. the guy who has always been good to her, who expressed his feelings, and whom she kissed. this is also something like the dilemma of choosing between "the guy who i like vs. guy who likes me"

3. Haeyi felt touched (or badly put, he pitied him) for all the good things Sunho has done for her and all the effort he exerted into his one-sided feelings.

so basically, it was Jungwoo whom Haeyi liked all along. we have to accept that. unless, of course, the plot changes and things unfold differently as the story goes.

this comment isn't meant to hate on Sunho. I just had to highlight Sunho's redflags to knock some senses to people who hate on Jungwoo and comment about why Sunho is a better match for Haeyi (when his actions were worse that Jungwoo's). it's hella annoying. yes, he was there for Haeyi when she was struggling and he was a big help to her, I give him that! however, we can't forget his own wrongdoings.

and tbh... y'all can't really expect Haeyi to end up with Sunho, I mean, just look at the posters... plus, they didn't establish Sunho as a lead leveled with Haeyi and Jungwoo, unlike in Love Alarm 2 where the second lead guy was hinted to end up with the female lead. damn, some people are even threatening to drop the show if the next episodes don't favor Sunho lmaoooo ok then good bye I guess???

He's been observing her and holding back because he knew from the start that they wouldn't end up together. Despite that, he said that he was fine with having a one-sided love and still stayed there beside her. That shows his love for her, how serious he was, and how devoted he was. Compared to the main lead, he played with her feelings and then suddenly confessed. None of them were good enough for Haeyi. So there's no need for us to bash any of the main leads. Sunho kissed Haeyi when she was drunk (yes, he took advantage of her) but why did Haeyi kiss back and was thinking hard about whether to choose Sunho or Jungwoo? It means that she also had feelings for Sunho. Just because we all know that they won't end up together, it doesn't mean that Sunho is all toxic for kissing her. If Jungwoo was the one who kissed drunk Haeyi, will you all be hating him too? You won't. "Because he's eventually going to end up with her, it doesn't matter." That's what you guys will be saying. So let's just not add fuel to fire, Sunho is Sunho, we have no control over him. If you hate him that much, then drop the drama. Don't keep bashing and defaming his character by only looking at the negative things, look at the positive side too.

Sun ho is manipulative selfish jerk. He goes everywhere in the hae yi ,he stick like a glue or in other words stalker. Toxic people loves supporting the Sun ho. He taking advantage of drunken Female Lead, some people support that and justifies the Sun ho behaviour. Below seen some people support the toxic second lead and talk about the their chemistry. I haven't seen any chemistry between them. Writer has no ideas in character development that is the captain is made poorly written character and make up such draggy love triangle. Second male lead is an unnecessary character in this drama other than glueing hae yi he has no purpose to devlier of his character in this drama. Writer want to focus main leads and their character development, mystery, cheerleading rivalry that kind of stuffs. Outdated love triangle ideas implemented and now suffering for good ratings.

To be honest i really wanna drop this drama but part of me still believes that maybe just maybe there is a chance she will actually end up with sun ho. When i compare jung woo’s love for hae yi and sun ho’s the captain doesn't live her as much as sun ho does. If anything it felt like Sun Ho was just a typical selfish and wealthy spoilt brat— and also Sun Ho kissed her without consent when she was drunk when he obviously knows that she doesn’t like him :/ at this point I might’ve started rooting for Jung Woo because I’m starting to really dislike Sun Ho lmao

I understand that their kiss was when they’re drunk but come on the writer is toying with the watcher’s hearts too much and in some ways the character’s hearts too. I knew from the start that the capt is the main lead but they really tried to play the scenario that sunho has a solid chance for the last few ep before ep 11, and the last 10 minutes of the episode ruined it.

The only reason haeyi felt more of a connection with the capt was because they both lost their father, its been the only topic of their conversation for the past couple episode and they’re milking that trauma.

those who says sunho is selfish and only cares about himself is correct but thats not necesarily a bad thing because when it comes to haeyi or the people he like/loves he actually does care about them them.

I hate love triangle like this in drama because the second male lead just felt used by the writer as an added conflict to spice up the main love line, and there’s never any real chance for the second male lead so we all just felt shitty for watching this. Writer that want to use the love triangle plot should make it really unpredictable who’s going to be the end game so that everyone can enjoy watching till the last ep, imagine how many person’s gonna drop this drama after ep 11 like me, wasted potential.

The second male lead is attractive but pushy, only cares about his feeling, and very childish. The girl is a very fun character though!

I love the friendship between Do Hae Yi and her bestie Sunja^^. I feel unsettled because I still got the feeling that Haeyi will end up with Sunho in the later episodes I think something bad will happen to Haeyi and Jungwoo will blame himself because of that (maybe I'm over thinking).

Im so curious as to why Kim Jin-Il hold grudge against the cheering squad? Maybe because he's heartbroken due to the rule that THEIA members can not date with their fellow squad mates?

I honestly love the storyline (probably one of my favorites) and I’m a fan of Bae In Hyuk since My Roommate is a Gumiho that’s why I’m rooting for him. BUT I honestly feel that there’s a stronger chemistry between Sun Ho and Hae Yi in this drama. (T_T) And the fact that their moms are kinda cute together made me want to believe that they are meant for each other (some plot twist or something)

So yeah. Although there are still few more episodes but looks like Hae Yi already made up her mind. I just hope Hyun Jin and Ji-Hyun have their own drama to make up for our little heartaches. :’)

Ellen Nov 15 2022 10:41 am Have Yi and Sun Ho One thing I am sure about their relationship it will end in tears, I'm sorry to say that but Sun has so many skeletons and past. For instance we still don't know why he broke up with his last girlfriend who brought him brake up cake and the girl seemed upset. Also the way he treats people is not okay, he's rude and unapologetic and doesn't care about other people as he does whatever he wants and does not care about others opinions . The way he used that girl to get attention from Hae Yi was not right. I just feel sorry for Hae Yi for choosing Sun Ho but we'll just have to watch to see if they live happily ever after or it ends bad. Maybe I might be wrong and Sun Ho really changed his bad behavior or maybe I'm right we'll see. I also fear that Sun Ho might take Hae Yi's innocent, well he already did anyways.

But other than that I love the series there is just so much chemistry between each and every character. The storyline is so much fun and amazing to watch and quite interesting with all the mistery and romance.

Rc137 Nov 10 2022 12:08 pm Loving this drama! The two main leads, Han Ji Hyun (Do Hae Yi) and Bae In Hyuk (Park Jung Woo), are doing a wonderful (really good) job! Han Ji Hyun is so attractive looking (especially in her cheer outfit. I don’t like American cheerleading these days because it’s too focused on doing stunts rather than actual cheerleading. Korean cheer squad really makes the festival looks sooo exciting and fun. The colorful (kind of over-the-top) outfits and bold gestures choreographed to music gets the students really hyped up. I’d like to experience something like that again. It must be so exhilarating to have the whole amphitheater filled with students chanting and singing with their youthful school spirit!

Real k Oct 26 2022 12:08 pm I maybe wrong but this drama is starting to get really dark for just a romance comedy. Makes me think that this drama will end in a tragedy. I say that because we are introduced to 3 prophecies and 2 came true already so there's a good possibility the 3rd one will too, and someone will die. How else will Hae-yi's character grow to appreciate life and not be obsessed with money all the time unless someone close to her dies and reminds her that life is too short to not enjoy it fully. Plus this drama takes place in 2019 meaning she should be in her senior year in the present and possibly the captain of her own cheer squad.

I can feel the happiness and also the pain of this/my generation: must learn and got good grades, go to a good university, find jobs, fight for money, give up dating, and do everything for family. It's really tiring. But some small cheer club, hobby, or anything can be the sweet escape.

Do Hae Yi is so sad. First daughter, family doesn't have money, give up everything for her brother. I love the actress portrayal as Hae Yi, cheerful outside, crazy inside. She is realistic (super realistic).

In other hand, the Captain also relatable. Give up everything (job and money) for something that many people think 'useless'. Maybe that's how love works. He so in love with that cheer squad and become idealistic. The actor expression as Captain also great. He makes me feel what he feel. I love him.

Second lead Sunho is a new actor but also good actor. I'm in love and hate relationship with his character. He makes me upset with his playboy behaviour but also I understand him. His family is rich, but not a happy family.

Overall, I hope people watch this beautiful healing drama. I feel better every Monday/Tuesday because of Cheer Up.

It’s so funny that there’s rarely a scene where Hae-Yi is not eating. She’s so cute and adorable. I love how bubbly she is.

At first she just seems like a funny girl, but that's just her way to cope with her ongoing struggles. I'll look forward to see more character development and not just a sassy love triangle story.

I watched Bae inhyuk the sunbae in Roomate Gumiho and Why her. He was the second guy but I didn't feel his presence in his previous drama. Here he doing great and I think his mature look is the key. I didn't know he is younger than everyone. But I guess he has a lot of drama experiences.

episode 3 & 4 are where the quality started to randomize, but you can bet Jung Sin Hye and Jang Gyu Ri stole the show while Han Ji Hyun is carrying the drama.

I watched this show for Han Ji Hyun, but GyuRi caught more of my attention, i didn't even know fromis9, but she needs more screen time and more chemistry with Han Ji Hyun

Mr. Baek caught my attention not with his good look but with his portrayal of his character. In Why Her his character wasn't developed well. He has less exposure in why her. His performance in Cheer Up is really good. He still the sunbae, but now in first lead version. His movement, his gesture, and the way he speak is full of charisma. It's not easy to play such a character because I guess he is not an ex idol trainee. I saw him as second lead a lot already. Now I give him all my heart because his charm in this drama~

JiaYi Oct 12 2022 1:12 pm At first, I don't feel CU is such interesting KD because I think it's just typical teens drama. However, when I watched the first episode, I love how strong and bright the caharacter of main cast, Hae Yi and the quite cold Captain Jung Woo..

The conflict starts as soon as the drama starts and it goes along with the drama, that's why I love CU from the start, it's not boring and slow kind of storyline..

Reminiscing good old days during uni life, CU shows reality of us in those glory days, easy to relate, understand and enjoy this drama. All the life conflicts, study, love life, work which I can relate so we'll. The murder mystery plot enhance the CU storyline.. Fresh storyline..

As much as I love Do Hae Yi, I also love Park Jung Woo as much as Do Hae Yi love him.. The second leads are also powerful characters.. I think both first and second female leads plays strong characters compare to first and second male leads.. Love them all.. All characters really suits this drama/storyline and they play their role very well ♥️

Hope this drama watched and loved by many as it's NOT typical teens drama with typical conflicts ?

darara Oct 12 2022 5:07 am I love this drama so so so much!! I watch ep 1 without any expectation. I know Bae In Hyuk and Han Ji Hyun before this drama but I thought they just newbie actors so I didn't think this drama would be that great. Also the rest of the main casts most of them also newcomers. So I thought it would be just another youth drama about school, hobby, love, etc.

BUT only after 5 minutes watched the ep 1, I changed my mind. This drama is not only about school, love, hobby. It's about life. About the season that I thought already passed. I fall in love with the 'university club' theme because I also joined a univ's club when I was student. All the young actors doing good job!! Daebak!!!

Relate with Hae Yi, I have a lot of life's problem, school crazy homeworks, part time works, love problem. But still that moment shining brightly until now. Now, after I go through the life, those moments still beautiful and nice to be remembered.

Also for the Captain, I fall in love with him just like how Hae Yi saw him as a hero, as someone who can be her support system.

I hope they, all of them, and anyone who enjoy this theme also can be happy all the time. Such a beautiful drama!!

Lauren Oct 12 2022 12:11 am Both male leads are bland and boring for me. This is the first drama I prefer all the girls over the guys. Hae Yi, Cho Hee, Sun Ja, So Yoon, other team Captain girl, etc.. all of them are absolute stunners and great characters.

Jack Oct 11 2022 10:52 am Am I the only one who does not really like Sunho? For some reason he rubs me the wrong way, like he suddenly became obsessed with her that felt very out of no where. I don't like love triangles, I find them useless, but I am watching this because I loved Han Jihyun. Hopefully the love triangle isn't the whole story.

I really like Yongil and Chohee even though they interacted once. I like his innocence with her colder domineer. If anyone can recommend a drama where the leads are like this, please do as these dynamics are normally reserved to second lead couples.

Her character is so full of charisma. So far, I love the story. I am not into campus romance story and told myself will watch ot because of FL but I am loving the 2 episodes so far. I also love the mystery part, it makes it more exciting. Hope more people will watch it for the next eps.

Oliver Oct 05 2022 6:02 am I don't know how I felt about this drama. I watched 2 episodes. It's very overused trope with bland cheer routines (what was that). The plot is gonna be like that FL later become committed and enjoying herself in cheering squat and start dating with ML. Then, her reason which she applied at first for getting money is going to reveal, and it would hurt ML and other members.... misunderstanding will happen.... and resolve at the end.... Murder mystery subplot is so out of place here, no every drama needs one anyway....the one who is going to die is one of the seniors or a side character...

She is so beautiful and charming, most importantly a good actress. I immediately connects with Do Hae Yi's character because of her great performance. Way to go! Han Ji Hyun!!
