Yoo Ji-Na (Uhm Jung-Hwa) has been a popular singer for the past 20 years, but she holds pain inside because of something she abandoned when she was younger. Meanwhile, Jung Hae-Dang (Ku Hye-Sun) began working as a Yoo Ji-Na impersonator to support her family after her father lost his job. She sings on stage at a club and tries hard to mimic Yoo Ji-Na's songs.

Jung Gyu-Woon has been offered a major supporting character role and he is considering the offer positively.
First script reading took place sometime between January - early February, 2017 at MBC Dream Center in Ilsan, South Korea.

On March 23, 2017, Ku Hye-Sun informed the drama series team that she will have to drop out due to a serious allergic reaction. In her place, Jang Hee-Jin is cast to play Jung Hae-Dang for the rest of the series.

sakura Oct 07 2023 12:38 am I didn't understand what the drama was trying to show. I was expecting to see dynamics between the two female leads but that didn't happen much. I shouldn't have expected much to begin with. Jina did Hae Dang wrong but what was up with her. How much wrong could she let Jina do to her? And Jina was a woman with zero remorse. She had demons to fight against but she was a demon too. The biggest one. Hae Dang got her life ruined single handedly by Jina but to do the same, she needed help, which wasn't wrong. But the way it was presented made Hae Dang more of an accessory. The character development I was hoping from her didn't happen. Instead it went downhill. When it didn't happen, it wasn't shown much or was with help. Lee Kyung Soo was one nice character. It was the second show in which I saw Kang Tae Oh and boy did they do him wrong (again). He was the nicest and the smartest character in the show. He was happy with the thought of marrying Hae Dang and having a family but he didn't get that in the end. At least he did get to live in the countryside but still... Hyun Joo was irritating. He was rash, arrogant and angry all the time. He wanted to uncover the secret of his mother's death but his approach was entirely obnoxious. He was the high and mighty one whose orders needed to be followed ( that never happened though). I couldn't come to like him just because he was nice to Hae Dang. Moreover, their relationship was much less explored than Hae Dang and Kyung Soo. I rooted for the two of them till the end because with Hyun Joo it seemed forced. Till the end of the drama, Lee Kyung Soo was the only character that I came to like. Others were all highly unlikeable. He stood up for those he loved when it was due and sacrificed when it wasn't working out. But he was doing all of that alone most of the time. Seriously why would they create such a nice character and not give him happiness.

Park Min Nov 16 2022 7:32 pm The drama must have a big identity crises since it couldn't decide between being a family drama or makjang, constantly switching even within the same episode. Right from the beginning, Episode 1, when one of the family members took picture of Ji Na's necklace and, for absolutely no logical reason, put it on the internet, I could already smell the fuming hot garbage the writers are about to create. Guess what? I was 100% correct. This drama tips heavily on the baboonish side of the makjang scale.

Although Uhm Jung Hwa did a great job, but it's impossible for me to view her as an evil character. I didn't like how she suddenly became evil for no reason from episode 12. We were initially presented by a strong independent Yoo Ji Na (Uhm Jung Hwa) but 15-20 episodes later the writers made her turn to a bag of dirt and completely ruined any build up she had.

The drama had a strange pacing, it changes weirdly every handful of episodes with the biggest change came from switch between episodes 30 & 31 which created a big gap and disconnect in the story. Speaking of switching and change, I think the switch of the female lead ruined the drama. Jang Hee Jin is absolutely a great actress but she just didn't fit well in this case. They even went on to replace/recreate all of the flashback scenes.

Another form of change/switching came with the love interest which shamelessly switched three times. It was straight up disgusting watching Hae Dang being with one man while sobbing/begging/crying/caring/dreaming/lusting/loving/chasing/pitying/thirsting/craving/running around for another man. Despicable and uncomfortable to watch! On the other spectrum, Jung Hae Jin was absolutely the only "good" part about this drama and nothing else.

After being the nastiest humans ever to walk the earth, suddenly everyone became angelic and have the highest morale of any other human for the ending. Great writing! It feels like their budget was small, it was mostly filmed indoor between 2-3 family houses with very limited number of outdoor scenes. I feel sorry for this cast to be involved in this atrocious project. The drama that followed it after finishing serializing "Man in the Kitchen (2017)" was much better than this. Can't recommend this, barely 3/10 for the cast's sake.

Did "Hae Soo" really had to die? Did the writer had absolutely no other way to escalate tension? It came out as seriously unnecessary.

And whats up with these men allowing their parents/grandparents to dictate on who they should marry?. Also the lead actress….Hae Dang should have more backbone and take on those dysfunctional family and that singer woman verbally! That old woman need to go sit in a corner and stfu

ellie May 08 2018 3:36 pm I dunno..50 episodes is a lot of drama to get through. It did have an old k-drama feel to it which has it's place with the family, especially in the beginning. Yet I felt it was pretty much dragged out..then to switch actresses at episode 7. Yet I know, to some this is an epic tale to see and listen too.

shortfus Jan 11 2018 4:20 pm LOVE it! Love it! Kdramas or any TV dramas are meant to be trashy, more trashier the better and this drama REALLY REALLY gets it! Uhm Jung-Hwa (Ji-Na) really knows what she is doing - she looks trashy and certainly acts trashy and deliciously crazed. I think the original actress who played Hae-Dang dropped out because she looked too goody-goody to go against Jung-Hwa's trashy appearance and so strong presences. The story line has certainly been pushed per Korean standards - a middle aged woman lusting after her much older soon-to-be-husband's son. I haven't seen that before in Kdrama. I just wish they would push the edge little more and have Jung-Hwa slap the crap out of the grinning face of her mother-in-law. Now, that would be awesome! A mother disapproving her 60+ old son's choice of a new wife. Come on! I'm certain having great time watching this kdrama, counting the number of glasses they break out of anger. I think I'm up to 10 so far and I'm only half way through.

Tp Sep 30 2017 6:50 am Just finished watching this awesome drama. Loved it from the beginning to the end. Everyone performed their role superbly. I think the story moderately resembles how the real life is, not like lots of dramas don't make any sense at all! I'd like to sincerely congratulate the writer. I also am very grateful to you that you didn't waste our time to watch such a long drama but quite entertaining. Thank you all for giving us such a good time of watching this daebak drama!

I don't understand the meaning of the song however by listenig only to the sound of the song, it is just too sad and painful. I don't want to spoil here. KS is great and I wish he can find happiness.

Just saw through Ep 27 and Kang Tae-Oh is holding his own at this point against his crazy mother. Believe that will change in the future episodes. I just don't know why he doesn't give Hyun-Joon the letter??? He is going against the lady's wishes that raised him. Not good.

For a mother who abuses him, for a lover who leaves for another man. He tries to repay the kindness of the mother who raised him by fighting to get the shares. Only the grand mother has more or less some kind thought of him. After that what is left for his life? How painful it is. We don't see him smile anymore. Just a glance back when he was blind and happy with the mother that raised him. He shined from peace and happiness there. So sad. Looking forward for a good ending.

David Jul 31 2017 3:14 am I thought it was a bad stupid move on Kyung-Soo's part to tell idiot Park Sung-Hwan that his wife was his guardian. Duh!!! Why the heck would he tell him that as he is wondering how she passed away. He should have kept his mouth shut. Sung-Hwan is a jerk and a joke.....he will treat him as he treats his other 2 sons!! He only worries about Ji-Na. Having KS under his roof he will try to stop any rumors about his wife's death.

These shows are always the same. Why do people tell a person they may be suspicious of everything. Just keep your mouth shut is the best way. KS thought he could find something out by piano lessons and he didn't find anything out, but open his mouth to Sung-Hwan. These dramas are so aggravating at times.

Disapointed! Jul 18 2017 12:39 pm I am so disappointed in the writers! They should have given us loyal viewers a nice scene of HY and HD honeymoon. I wanted to see a little affection and love for the couple. Loyal fans deserve to see a little romance for the couples. I'm so proud that HY chose HD over revenge and money. He chose what was more important in his life. He continues to prove why I like him and still root for him in this drama. I feel sorry for KY but he needs to put his mom in her place and teach her a good lesson. I feel like only he will be able to stop her madness. Can't wait for the grandma to wake up and give Yoo Ji-Na hell for what she has put the family through.

I have to say that Hyun-Sung didn't get too bent out of shape when his father told him to divorce Na-Kyung. He took it very calmly.

Hyun-Joon needs to get his act together and start working or the company before he looses everything with Na-Kyung scheming and checking everything out. Hyun-Joon needs to hire a professional to take care of Hae-Dang so she can start learning some different dances, get better clothes, learn some new songs of her own and get some better gigs. Jina wanted Hyun-Joon to be her manager, but I doubt he would have been able to do much for her in the entertainment field, he really can't do much for Hae-Dang.

Angeline Jul 09 2017 4:35 am I can't stand Kang-Sik. When Bong-Sun wanted to pay $1000 for rent, and her mother cuts it down to $800, stupid Kang-Sik cuts it down to $500. Instead of shutting his mouth, he lowers the money more. And Hae-Dang also should have accepted the money instead of offering it to Mi-Sook. Does Kang-Sik and his daughters assume HD should support them all until they all die???

I thought it was rude of KS to tell Kyung-Soo that he would not accept him due to their age difference??? He never even gave KS a chance to get to know him. HD is a 33 year old woman. Is it not up to her to make the decision regarding their age difference??? The father is a jerk. Is Hyun-Joon now going to support HD's whole family?

It is tiring listening to Hyun-Joon and his father fighting all the time.

The smartest person between the 2 families is Na-Kyung. She is a sly sneaky fox and finds out everything.

Hyun-Joon as a manager should have bought better clothes for HD and found her someone to help her come up with different songs. Kyung-Soo should have composed some songs for her.

I have seen Kang Tae-Oh in 3 dramas, and in each one he likes a girl, but never ends up with the girl.

I wonder what will be the content of the letter, when will he give the letter. I hope he will be more mature in order to avoid traps setting for him.

Limi Jun 27 2017 3:02 pm I love the grandmother! She puts Yoo Ji-Na in her place! I hope HD and HJ come out as the winner! I like KS too, but it's not right for him to just come in and take over what was originally HJ. Maybe at the end, Yoo Ji-Na will apologize and ask for forgiveness from her son and be a mom to him because that's what he needs. He never had a mother's love before. The daughter-in-law is smart to trap Yoo Ji-Na and use her own weakness against her but hopefully, she won't be a match for HD later on. HD and KS need to help HJ protect what is his and become the successor. Can't wait for the upcoming episodes!

Myle Jun 20 2017 8:58 am I love Jung Gyu Woon's acting in this drama! I love that he's a romantic guy and he loves Jung Hae-Dang and will protect her. HD and HJ make such a cute couple. I'm looking forward to seeing some romantic scenes of them together. Kyung Soo is such a nice humble man but his chemistry with HD is not as good as HD with HJ. Jang Hee-Jin did a great job picking up after Ku Kye-Sun left. She's doing a wonderful job portraying her role as HD that I haven't missed Ku Kye-Sun. Great acting from all the actors! Love this drama!!!

Cut ties with the awful mother who did nothing but crush his life. End the relation with a woman who has pity on him instead of love. It is just the right moment to turn the page and be stronger. I don't see any motivation as an excuse to live with his mother.

The problem is that he does not have support from Hae Dang family aftfer the truth was revealed. I blame only his faith with bad luck and hope the writer could find a solution. It is not a good idea to bring Hae Dang into this evil family. Kyung Soo refused totally to be the son in order to avoid all the problems with his mother and with the evil family . Now Hae Dang has to face not only Jina but all the other members. Really bad idea. But I stay in hope for a good ending of this couple. Kuyng Soo deserves love and Hae Dang for lots of sacrifies.

But despite of my fave actress's departure from this drama, I'm still watching it until now coz for me KHS did worked hard for this until her last filming. I commended her effort. She established JHD's character really well. So, for those who are her all time haters, FYI many KHS fans are still religiously watching this drama. Coz whatever it is, still she's been part of the drama. Regarding the new actress, I just realized now that I'd already seen her from other dramas she was in. So to speak, I don't hate her coz I didn't know her then (at all.) In fairness to her, she's a good actress & I commend her for the doing her best too but of course as a fan, my heart still goes to KHS. I didn't just became her fan for nothing tho.(I fell in love w/ her as Yang GhukWa in Pure 19 way before BOF) Of course, if ur a fan, it's just natural to be bias lol. Liking someone over the other is logical especially in this situation, comparison can't be ignored. But hating is a strong word. "Too much" feeling of disliked over someone is hatred. So it's easy to spot a plain "hater" lolz. Again, if many were disappointed, many KHS fans as well are still supporting this drama & rooted for the casts too. Anyway, just hope that they'll still release more OST's to be sang by YJN & JHD (loved UJW's songs here.) To add more excitement, want to see the musical side of the drama since it started that way. Also want to see the 2 ladies sing & dance together in 1 stage (again) but this time in a more professional level. Well that's gonna be entertaining & interesting scene to watch!

The drama itself pretty much left the synopsis and a lot of us had no idea where the writer was now going with the drama. But in the most recent epsiode, the story line is starting to get back on track. I have no idea what was wrong with the writer. I loved the drama when it first started and now I am very so so about it. Yes I liked Hye Sun better in the role and I think she is prettier and younger looking than the replacement, but that is not the only reason. The direction of the story line just started to change too much. Hopefully things will go back up hill from here. Get well soon Hye Sun, and fighting! to the replacement actress.

KHS's fans shall stop whining and pray for your idol to recover and get back with another project.

She can't beat Ku hye sun. She has no charisma whatsover, even she never smile and I don't like her act when she is angry. It doesn't fit with haedang personality character. The worse choices of production team to repelaced ku hye sun with her. Now, the storyline is changed because the new can't potrayed the original character of haedang like Ku Hye Sun. Ku hye sun has an underlying sense of humor and edge. Even when she is downtrodden, we can sense her dignified stance on her own life. I miss her coquettishness with the audience, her warmth to her family members and her very expressive face. More importantly, I miss her singing and dancing moves. Now thats all missing, its too bad. And Without her, i can't continue to watch this drama. So sad i'm not recommended this drama because from ep 1-6 this awesome but next Episode is disappointing :(

She got recognized after "Boys Over Flowers" and netrizens started to praise her with her quality cert. of songwriter and director but do you know, "Blood" is the worst drama ever? Come-on, people! I feel Uhm jung hwa is wearing just 1 expression the whole time ..but again it still feels the whole meaning of the situation is delivered. I think she and Shin se kyung have similar style of acting which is hard to grasp but still feel. It took me few ep's to follow Ku Hye soon acting too. Neverthless, directors do not make JUNG GYU WOON a supporting character!! He is worthy than that.

Don't sure if she got a ton of acting experience in last year, or if it's just her role in Blood was dull, but here in YATM Ku Hye-Sun was shining. Feeling pity to Jang Hee-Jin, but i don't think any other actress is able to be so organic and sincere in that role. Hope Ku Hye-Sun will get well soon, it's very sad that she couldn't continue her amazing acting in this series, but over these 6 episodes i've developed a confident consideration of her acting skills anyways, so i look further for her next role.

Seriously, I'm watching this drama because of unni since she's one of the few actresses (Ha Ji Won and Han Ji Min <3) that doesn't annoy me. I can't stand many actresses and the plots for drama are always the same that's why I rarely watch korean drama anymore. The plot: rich but cold male lead and poor but nice and prideful female lead-the male lead fell in love with her because of her character and he suddenly changed because of her. Really the same plot in every drama. I'm already pissed off because many k-netizens critized her beause of her acting. Everyone has the freedom to state his opinion but THIS IS TOO MUCH. They did the same with blood (I love it) too but to be honest, they're just jealous of her since she has the beauty, can act and is amazing as a human being so they need to criticize her on something to hurt her. She's the only one who made me addicted to korean drama (ever since I watched BOF 6 years ago, the second korean drama I've watched and really I watched it over ten times in a row) I don't want to offense anyone but some k-netizens are ignorant and hateful when someone's better than them. They did the same with Park Min Young because she didn't put any make up on for healer so they called her ugly and said they won't ever watch her drama again. Really, they need to grow up and see how much the world change. (It's the same about LBGT. China that's known as homophobic is doing many Gay dramas that are really popular but korea still remains behind their ignorant way of thinking) Hye Sun unni don't worry, just take care of yourself and don't suffer because of those jealous people.
