I watched it twice at 6 month intervals, and was just as much captivated and moved. How love ultimately is a surrender to the others needs, and is that warm regard without ego is beautiful to see being developed. Such respectful boundaries. Realistic motivations, dialogue, rounded characters - amazing. Had to dig, found accusations of plagiarism but whatever the situation the writing from moment to moment was clearly not plagiarised and is of such a high quality. Please write more! Tom Feb 19 2021 11:30 am Because This is my First Life: Unfortunately episode 15 turned me off, what up until then was a warm biography of two people trapped by their own decision to marry for all the wrong reasons, then the story ran off the tracks. As Ji Ho unfortunately goes first in what was to be two confessions, she wanted to end the contract, eliminating Se Hee's confession that he was in love with Ji Ho, which set in motion a series of events really meant to tug at the heart rather than maintain a consistent story line. Unfortunately, this storyline is being done to prolong the agony of the couple splitting and not getting back together, rather than maintaining a more plausible storyline that might have ended the relationship altogether or allowed Se Hee to confess his love for Ji Ho. What transpired after her wanting to end the contract didn't make any sense whatsoever, destroying any positive feelings toward Ji Ho whatsoever. The only real dialog was by her mother when she told Ji Ho she was just talking crap. Also there is a scene with her classmate at a Sauna where she seems to be enjoying herself much more than Se Hee. Finally we get to Ji Ho's point for leaving, she wanted Se Hee to be more human, which he already was demonstrating well before his confession. The playwriter makes a false assertion suggesting that traditional marriage can interfere with love between two people. Marriage is a certificate that provides legal rights and responsibilities to a couple. It is the emotional attachment, which has nothing to do with marriage that is important, and should have been the storyline, eliminating the necessity of Ji Ho leaving. The Landlord Tenant contract between the two did the damage, they never should have entered that agreement. This destroyed the entire drama for me and I don't recommend people see it for that reason. curry Feb 07 2021 2:44 pm I cant believe Because This Is My First Life exists. The core of the narrative felt so genuine and sincere, and it struck me so deeply I don’t think I could forget this experience even if I tried. The way they delivered the storyline and how each of the characters, messy emotional baggage and all, fit into narrative other was so clever and well thought out. I felt this to the point where the characters seemed like fully realized people; as if I was intruding on a private moment between them lmao. Also the way they visually translated each scenario made it so much easier to fully measure the depth of everything; intended feelings behind the dialogue more so. They knew when to be rigid and straightforward, lighthearted and comical, or close and delicate. Hence, I never felt like I was being force fed well-manufactured characters, instead I was given the privilege of witnessing a very human experience taking place among them. Ultimately, the story was just so consistent with its convictions and values that I personally felt as though I could perceive the themes they presented with more clarity than I ever had in the past. This drama is so genuine, sincere, and beautiful. Just exceptional. It realistically depicts the challenges of being an adult- In love, marriage, profession, life. I've never been so captivated by a drama before that I would look up its writer. I became not only Lee Min Ki and Jung So Min's fan but yours as well in an instant! The lines/dialogues are lyrical, deep yet so comprehensible. Beautifully delivered by the actors it got to my heart and mind. I've watched so many dramas but it took the top spot! Honestly, I've been holding back from watching it again 'cos when I do, I want to get the same feeling I had the first time. I tried to watch other dramas but nothing really caught my attention. I evidently failed because I just finished watching this drama a second time. I'm glad I did! (Here goes the OST on repeat again haha) Thank you for writing BTIMFL, Jagga-nim! That at one point in your life dreams and aspirations makes you, these are just the two things that wants you to become an adult. And the next thing, you're almost thirty and reality kicks in. What was once your dream would just be a memory for you and a new dream for others. I've learned a lot from this drama, the OST's superb and the rest are simply meaningful and beautiful. This was the first time I actually cried seeing the kisses between the leads. It was just beautifully done, and I loved the way you so perfectly incorporated Chong Hyon-jong’s poem Visitor, and Doris Lessing’s short story On Room Nineteen, into your drama. Other than the writer of Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, incorporation of Kim In Yook’s poem, The Physics of Love in that screenplay, no other drama has done it so well. Too often I feel the overt attempt to use literature to make the character or story appear “deep,” and the clumsy attempt really sticks out and spoils the effect. Not here, though. It was simply lovely. Thank you for such a wonderful story (and I LOVED the cat!). I’m glad such beautiful, talented actors were on board to bring it to life, with the grace, nuance and emotional richness it deserved. I like the way you differ the difference between "dating" and "marriage" so much. And I love when you put ideas of the scenes to discuss with the audience. I don't know why, but even the drama was ended by happy ending, but I still feel like it is sad, it's kind of not absolutely sad, but it is also not happy.
