Mikoto Misumi (Satomi Ishihara) is a pathologist at UDI (Unnatural Death Investigation) Lab. She can't stand neglecting unnatural deaths and believes there must be a truth behind the deaths. Team members that work with her are autopsy doctor Kai Nakado (Arata Iura), recorder Rokuro Kube (Masataka Kubota), clinical test technologist Yuko Shoji (Mikako Ichikawa) and UDI director Yasuo Kamikura (Yutaka Matsushige).

They work on unnatural death cases and try to reveal the truth behind the deaths.

Notes

"Unnatural" takes over TBS' Friday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "Dr. Storks" and followed by "You've Got Someone to Come Home To" on April 13, 2018.

I love it that Shoji is the one being shown hurt the most from his betrayal. Thought there was something something there. Let it be no more vague and weird triangle between Mikoto, Nakado, Kube.

I watch this drama because of MIU404, and I'm curious about UDI. A friend suggest me to watch this. And also, the writer is Nogi-san, same as MIU404's.

Please, make season 2, and I wish for a little romance between Mikoto-san and Kube-kun ?

Yash Aug 15 2020 9:43 am Can I can I can I hope for just a sprinkle of romance? I know this is a straight procedural, but Mikoto and Nakado's chemistry were just too good. If there's a season 2 for it, I really hope they would tease it more. If they can have Shun Oguri special guest-star, it'll be a reunion for Rich Man Poor Woman and this time Asahina will get the girl.

Jean Jul 26 2020 9:27 am @amethyst I don't know if you'll still be able to read this but this is also to anyone who didn't like it focusing too much on Nakado. Yes, Nakado's vengeful character wasn't ideal for most people. But if you've been there. If you've had "unfair death" happen to someone very important to you wherein you're sure who did it but it's impossible to charge the murderer, you'll understand him. You'll relate to him. I'm actually thankful to this drama because of Nakado's character. It made me feel that I'm not alone. Whether that's good or bad, I'm not sure. All I know is it felt like a pat on my back. Knowing that someone else somewhere, could understand what I feel right now.

Lalala May 15 2020 3:08 am Ohh! Arata Iura performed as Nakado, I didn't memorize him at first. The first time i knew him was in "Rich Man, Poor Girl", I liked his character Asahina in it. I recognized that Kai Nakado is Asahina after I reached five episode of "Unnatural".

Hotelier May 13 2019 10:32 am This series is very recommended. I just finish watching it, and from character development, acting, story line, ost,....all done very well. So far this is the best drama from Satomi san. I hope they make season 2 :D

Each episode faces bodies and unfolds the 'truth' behind these deaths, and yet tackles on social issues that occur in everyday society, ranging from a woman in a male dominated field to bullying. Each character showcases amazing development and we as viewers have a glimpse into their mindset and we learn and relate to the protagonists. The story line is not overly dramatic and the cast is an amazing bunch! Highly recommend!

louise Jun 24 2018 5:39 am Outstanding j-dorama - exceptionally well-written and good acting throughout. All the characters are sympathetic, except for that spineless little rat Kube. The writer really crammed a lot of social issues into each episode (e.g. in one episode there was date rape, victim blaming and new technology like cryptocurrency and Fitbit-like devices), but did it in an admirably clear and balanced way. Highly recommended!

Amethyst Mar 21 2018 8:59 pm The story had unexpected problems in first few episodes. But towards the end, it's too focus on Nakado. I didn't like his character, for annoying words he said, I would quit UDI like Sakamoto did. Don't know why, the drama happens for Nakado seems fake for a medical theme like this, it's too dramatic and doesn't seem real at all. I'd prefer Kube's story. His double job will be something happened for real these days, picking another job in order to look good for the other

lenta Mar 17 2018 9:21 pm i really enjoy this show since i'm fan to mystery and crime drama. I like how the characters are really have strong identity, like how Shoji still behave playful in awful situation, how Kamikura do his best but all he does still has comedy in it, and especially how the characters have development as the drama going on. I ended up like Arata Iura, because as Nakado he's jerk but he still is funny. And the comedy isn't the main part, they're everywhere, but they blend nicely with the seriousness of the forensic. I hope there will be s2.

KK Mar 13 2018 11:22 am This is such an amazing series, I'm crying in each episode! The cast has a great chemistry and each story never fails to touch my heart. I also thought Kube will end up as my favorite character (since I'm a big fan of Masa), but I ended up liking Nakado-san more, and I think that's saying something. ^^;

Yasushi Jan 28 2018 6:18 am Ishihara has definitely improved since I first saw her in Puzzle. Her acting wasn't cringeworthy to begin with, but I guess she's matured a lot. I love forensic drama, so hoping to watch this soon.

Maninder Kaur Jan 01 2018 12:09 am I love Satomi so much!! She is my Favorite Japanese Actress. I saw her in Rich Man Poor Woman and I'm admiring her since than. I fall in love with her smile. I have yet to watch her drama nine to five. The actor was in Mars and one more movie i don't remember the name if movie ... it was based on Aquarium. I really wanted to see him in positive roles, so here he is. I will watch this drama.
