Oh Ha-Na (Ha Ji-Won) and Choi Won (Lee Jin-Uk) are both 34-years-old. They have been friends for 17 years. Oh Ha-Na is currently a career woman with an honest and confident personality. Choi Won works as an assistant purser for an airline. He has always helped Oh Ha-Na whenever she got into trouble. Cha Seo-Hoo (Yun Kyun-Sang) is a pianist with a free spirit and Lee So-Eun (Choo Soo-Hyun) is a cabin attendant for an airline. Will Oh Ha-Na and Choi Won find love?

- "The Time We Were Not In Love" takes over the SBS Saturday & Sunday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "Divorce Lawyer in Love" and followed by "Identical Affairs" August, 2015.
- Drama series is based on Taiwanese drama series "In Time with You,” which aired September 18 - December 11, 2011 on FTV (Formosa TV).
- First script reading took place May 10, 2015 at SBS Ilsan Production Center in Tanhyun, South Korea. The script reading took about 2 and a half hours to complete.
- Director Jo Soo-Won dropped out of the project due to difference of opinions with the production company iWillmedia, but rejoined two weeks later after differences were resolved.
- Screenwriter Min Hyo-Jung has been replaced with Jung Do-Yoon & Lee Ha-Na.
- Early Korean working title was "Neoreul Saranghan Shigan, 7000 Days" (literally "The Time That I Loved You, 7000 Days”) before changing to "Neoreul Saranghan Shigan" (literally "The Time That I Loved You").
