Hiroshi (Kenichi Matsuyama) is now 30-years-old and lethargic, but Pyonkichi, the frog imprinted on his shirt, is always energetic. Sometimes Hiroshi does not wear t-shirts with Pyonkichi, but Pyonkichi always encourages Hiroshi.

Notes

Based on manga series "Dokonjo Gaeru" by Yasumi Yoshizawa (published from July, 1970 to June, 1976 in Weekly Shōnen Jump). Drama series contains an original story that is set 16 years after the manga series.

Tommy Jan 04 2016 3:14 am What can i say about watching The Gutsy Frog thus far. Well...considering i've been watching quite a bit of Manga recently. And am also a HUGE fan of Kenichi Matsuyama's acting. I have to say that even though it's quite the "campy" TV show it really does have some great morals to it. For one thing it teaches kids not to be bullied and to stick up for themselves and who they are as individuals. It also teaches them about growing up, becoming independent on there own, building there self-esteem and confidence, and taking responsibility for there actions. Quite honestly, i didn't think i would enjoy this Manga as i'm used to seeing Kenichi in more serious roles. But i have to admit that his "versatility" as an actor playing a given part is quite impressive. The part he plays reminds me A LOT of Steve Urkel in a TV show i used to watch as a kid called "Family Matters" back in the '80's. Both characters Kenichi and Steve are EXTREMELY geeky and annoying. However, at the same time both have great hearts and mean well despite there nerdy demeanor. And i just laugh my ass off when i watch Kenichi getting all worked up over the simplest things. I will say this he certainly carried over the "eating aspects" of his character portrayal as L in the Death Note movies. Because there hasn't been an episode yet where he wasn't stuffing his face and trying to talk at the same time...LOL I just hope that this website can start working on getting episodes 7-10 English subbed so i can finish it. Because as of right now you can only watch up until episode 6 i believe. Then the rest are shown in "raw" Japanese language which is a real bummer. But honestly folks, if your a fan of Kenichi's work as i am it's WELL worth giving this TV show a chance. I'm really hooked on it now so if anybody on this website reads this review PLEASE get episodes 7-10 English subbed. Thank you.
