Nami (Ryoko Shinohara) is a 40-year-old housewife. She meets her high school friend Serika (Yoko Maki) for the first time in many years, but Serika now has terminal cancer. Serika tells Nami that she wants to meet her old friends from the "Sunny" club before she dies. Nami attempts to round up their friends for a reunion.

Yoko Maki was first cast to play Serika in the present day, but on November 11, 2017 production announced that Yoko Maki dropped out of the movie and Yuka Itaya was cast to play Serika. On January 30, 2018, Yoko Maki announced that her contract with management company Flying Box ended in mid-January, 2018.

Hachi Aug 02 2020 11:46 am It's actually a good movie, especially since they explore a lot into the gyaru culture in the 90s/early 2000s (which I loved), and throw in a lot of popular songs at the time as well. (La La La Love Song from Long Vacation as an example.)

Also, really commend Maika and Elaiza in their respective roles in this movie. <3

Haven't watched the original Sunny though. Yamamoto Maika plus Sobakasu in the background made it perfect. Periodt.

Sunny Jun 07 2019 8:10 pm It's okay not as good as the original though. This might be a good movie if you were from Japan or you grew up in Japan during the 90s. It is hard to explain without spoiling the film but I wish they made the characters more similar to the original cast..

Amy123 Jun 16 2018 10:40 am I can see some people complaining about not being made in the 80s like the original and being changed to 90s, just think at the bright side though, most kids our generation now are from 90s born not 80s these days, so I think this changes are better for Sunny. The generation now donot have lot ideas about 80s to be honest. Well I think this is good.
