The band first started in 1999, when Kana Otsubo & Ken Fujieda met at the Shibuya O-Nest & decided to form a band. They felt they needed another member and found Kiyoaki Sasahara who had just quit the band Kana & Ken went to see.
Band members' daytime jobs - Kana Otsubo = illustrator, Ken Fujieda = graphic designer, Kiyoaki Sasahara = photographer.
The band's name "Spangle call Lilli line" was chosen by Kana Otsubo purely on the way they sound together.

I’m probably their #1 fan on Spotify. This band is one of the finest artists of our modern time— and I don’t even know what they’re saying. The pure sounds and experimentalism across albums speaks to this group’s mastery and excellence, which is largely due to the fact that they haven’t settled for any singular genre. Each album is a wonderful surprise.
