When Takuma Kakinouchi (Shuhei Nomura) was 8-years-old, he spent time in the hospital. He made friends with Mayu Taneda (Hinako Sakurai) who was the same age as him. One day, they got out of the hospital and visited a park. There, Takuma Kakinouchi and Mayu Taneda promised that they would marry each other. They had no doubt that they would have a future together.

7 years later, Takuma Kakinouchi entered a prestigious high school at the age of 15. During the high school welcoming ceremony, a female freshman representative goes up to the platform. Takuma Kakinouchi is shocked to see that the girl is Mayu Taneda. Just so she could be with Takuma Kakinouchi, Mayu Taneda studied extremely hard to enter the same prestigious high school. Takuma Kakinouchi has tried to avoid her, even though he loves her. When he was younger, he heard how long he would live.

"Secret Unrequited Love" takes over TV Asahi's Saturday 23:15 time slot previously occupied by "Never Be Yours" and followed by "Tokyo Bachelors" on April 13, 2019.

Citra Sep 12 2020 2:14 am I feel sad for Kou. He is my favorite character here. He is funny, hard working (about his feeling), caring and gentleman, but suddenly everything happened. I feel bad for her GF also, they just dating for a while. And the worst is i don't even know how he is doing in the end. I hope Kou end up alive.

When I read the manga many years ago I thought he had survived, so it was only when I almost dihydrated watching the live action that I realised the open end and had to go back to the manga to cry some more...

hananurra Jun 14 2019 10:26 am @Pat couldn't agree more with your opinion. Shuhei and Hinako's performance was good, but Masaki and Inoue's chemistry that's so hard to compete. It's a real deal imo. Still remember the first time watched their version, tears keep falling, there's a lump in my throat, but it's so d*mn beautiful and sweet ending. Anyway this version give us hope another beautiful ending. Great job.

Sakurai Hinako is a force to be reckoned with among the young fresh actresses and Shuhei is arguably top 5 actors for his age group. As a bonus Honoka Miki is back, i havent really seen her in anything decent since Itazura Na Kiss
