"Scarlet" follows the life of female potter Kimiko Kawahara (Erika Toda).
Kimiko Kawahara was born in Osaka in 1937 to a poor family. When she was 9 years old, her family moved to Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. At the age of 15, she gets a job in Osaka and works to support her family. Years later, she returns to Shigaraki. Kimiko Kawahara is fascinated by the pottery made in the Shigaraki area. She decides to enter the male dominated world of pottery and struggles to find success.
