Naho Takamiya (Tao Tsuchiya) is a 2nd year high school student. During the spring, Naho Takamiya receives a letter sent by herself from 10 years in the future. In the letter, she liked transfer student Kakeru Naruse (Kento Yamazaki). Kakeru Naruse carried emotional scars from his mother's suicide and he died one year later. 26-years-old Naho Takamiya thinks about Kakeru Naruse often.

2nd year high school student Naho Takamiya, with the knowledge of what she feels 10 years in the future, takes action to change her future.

I love this to the core, but I'm still especially saddened for the little baby of Naho and Suwa since we all know that he doesn't exist in their future anymore. It's just too painful for me, but yes...We still got a happy ending. The actors whom I'm very attracted, are really awesome! Continue supporting these kind of Japanese production and entertainment guys!

Mindy Sep 25 2018 10:23 am This was absolutely, unbelievably, heart warmingly BEAUTIFUL. I am literally lost for words. I loved how this story was beyond a simple romance, and how it en-captured all of the little things we sometimes forget to value in real life.

I cried a lot, I'll admit, so stay prepared with a box of tissues. Despite all the tears and absolute sadness, I'm so glad I watched it because of the way it really highlights issues in society that no one wants to talk about and by that, I mean, everything to do with Kakeru's life.

I LOVED all the characters in this story and how Kakeru really developed as a character with time. The ending was beautiful and put my shattered heart to rest which I'm really thankful for, because I was already far too much a weeping mess^-^

DEFINITELY worth watching. An absolute masterpiece, with some stellar acting from a great cast! Fitting music, a unique story and a message that will seriously move you. This is the definition of art.

Yeeee Jul 13 2018 8:03 pm AMAZING adaptation of an amazing manga!! Not sure why people are saying the ending was bad? It was a happy ending and also very well done. They stayed quite close to the manga although left out a few scenes. Its sad that nothing changed in the original "future" world but they realized the importance of staying together and maintaining their friendship (also Suwa had a chance to be with Naho). They all drifted apart after Kakeru's death but now they're all anchoring each other after learning truth.

I'm also confused about some of the comments saying in the manga Naho and Suwa ended up together and Kakeru was with someone else even in the parallel universe where he didnt die. That didn't happen in the manga at all (at least not in the version I read?), it was kind of implied that Kakeru and Naho would end up together because Suwa gave up his chance to confess. He knew that if he confessed, it would secure his future with Naho (even if Kakeru lived) but he chose to NOT confess- therefore, changing his fate and completely giving her up. They skipped this scene in the movie. The whole point was that past Suwa was just happy knowing he had a future with Naho in the original universe and decided to give up his change for Naho to be with Kakeru in this universe.

George Dec 31 2017 8:48 pm Indeed a must watch movie. I have been reading this on manga. Then find it so interesting. The plot of the story captivates the inner thoughts of each characters. The storyline shows off how depression must be avoided. I myself have been fighting it for years. But with the friends help you can overcome this kind of issue. With their help you can regain confidence, growth and live a happy and no worries life. The cast performed very well. Emotions are written all over their faces. Thank you for bringing this to live action. Good job!!

Prim Dec 28 2017 6:28 am I think this movie is a must-watch. This tackled a very important issue nowadays which is depression. Although a work of fiction, it was very well thought out. Indeed, when it comes to the youth today, their friends really play an important role in their lives. And most of the time during their youth, they depend a lot to the company of their friends. There are a lot of life lessons in this movie (which I won't tell here, so pls watch it). The actors did very good. No one was left behind and no character was unimportant. It's not fast-paced nor slow-paced. It's just right. Lastly, I am so moved by the character of Hiroto Suwa. If I'd choose to have one friend in this lifetime, that would be him. :)

Yuan Nov 07 2017 5:46 am Such a touching movie. This is what I like about Japanese movies/doramas. Generally speaking, most of them (those really really good ones) don't focus on one aspect. Not pure romance. They always boil it together with family, friendship, career, self-esteem, self-confidence, individual growth... And yes, this movie is one of those. Great acting from the cast. Must-watch!

Even if they only knew Kakeru for a short period of time, that does not mean he isn't any special to them at all! Just think about it. Kakeru and Naho's love was inseperable. It was something real and great. If I was Suwa, I would've done the same. Seeing both of your friends sharing something special, I would've done the same. Naho loved Kakeru, not Suwa. Why wouldn't he sacrifice his love for Naho? I can't see a reason why he should not give Naho up at all. It's unrequited! Plus, if you knew your friend was going to die soon, and you're in for saving him, you would've done the freaking same!

Yes, in the future, Suwa and Naho had married. They have a baby. They're a happy family. But, they still can't be happy with what happened to Kakeru. A friend of yours died by suicide why would you not be sad. Naho had probably just learned to love Suwa (in the future times), and that's why she can marry him.

Plus, it's not that Naho loves Kakeru more than Suwa. That day was Kakeru's death anniversary. You see, Kakeru was Naho's first and true love after all. They shared something special in the past and it could not be forgotten. So she's definitely traumatized and deeply hurt after Kakeru's death. Why wouldn't she cry hard for this? She remembered his death! And to mention, she learned the true cause of his death that day!

I pity Suwa for this. But Naho would've never loved Suwa the same way she loved Kakeru and I totally do not blame anyone at all for this by the way.

And why he keeps on supporting Naho, it's because he's a good friend and a good person. He's not someone petty who would be jealous of this. Plus, he was also hurt for the death of his best friend. He messaged his past self to support Kakeru and Naho. Of course, this was to save Kakeru. Naho is important to Kakeru after all (she'd be one of the reasons why Kakeru chose to live), and if Suwa messed this up again and kept Naho to himself, well you know what will happen. Kakeru would've died again and this manga and movie wouldn't have existed.

What's bother me was why Kakeru is so special to everyone and everyone keep supporting and sacrificing for him? They're knew him for only short time of period, and Kakeru never done anything special of his friends. Yet Suwa has sacrifice his love for Naho to Kakeru. And in real storyline, Suwa has married with Naho and has a baby together, but he keep supporting Naho to love Kakeru further. Why Naho loved Kakeru so much, than her own husband?. Even after 10 years. Kakeru death is not anyone fault.

Overall, the film is good, but the love and friendship element of the story seem to be rather unrealistic.

Kento yamazki did such a great job, I applaud you your acting is AMAZING. Great job from the cast too, such good acting and its moving and emotional. I love the way they protrayed friendship. 5 stars.

Bella Dec 05 2016 9:32 am both the anime and the movie made me cry a lot--I haven't read the manga. well at first I doubt the movie, but I was wrong. kenta is a really good actor. he is a perfect kakeru TT_____TT and how the actors show the friendship here is really good, so natural. ow besides, I love kenta and tao chemistry. everytime they looked at each other are just cute :3

Mun Oct 25 2016 8:26 am Mei Nagano or Sakurako Ohara should have taken the Naho's role they are suited to play sweet fragaile characters. I think Tao is much better when playing bitchy roles or Heriones with sharp attitude. Her acting skills is too cool to play Naho that she's ending up forcing herself to play it unnaturally weak. But I think she want to try to expreince different roles rather than being typecast which is not bad.

Plus, the actors are Tsuchiya Tao and Yamazaki Kento... Kya! They are good young actors and so fit together.

I really wanna get some tissue but if I did, I'm gonna ruin the moment by pausing the video. And I really hate that idea. Thick smooth liquid run down from my nose. And all I can say is...I'm down for any japanese movies like this. Thank goodness I watched this. This actually gave me lessons in life. Yamazaki Kento is really handsome.

Honestly, I didn't read the manga, but I think how the ending is quite favorable for me, and the part when we thought that their effort would give the same ending, kakeru died. Although the character naho is kind of.. not very strong, I liked how Tao acted. I think it's nice to be challenging different roles. In the end you can't always have roles which are similar to each other, because that would label the actor. Anyway, Tao and Kento should act in more dramas and movies together! Totally expecting!

らい Aug 12 2016 9:23 am Btw for anyone who knows, I need the title of the song that plays with something like a harmonica probably??? I'm not sure but it's an instrumental. It plays many times throughout the movie. It also plays before the credits start I think. I would also like the one where Kakeru is cycling and he was about to get run over. I think it's the same song, except when Kakeru was cycling the song speeds up and a sick drum beat was added. The piano version is also greatly appreciated. (played when sheltering from the rain during the festival I think)

I guess he remembered Naho and the rest of his friends, and how he should cherish life. Naho and friends did not change their future. Naho was still married to Suwa. They just change the past which is to save Kakeru from dying. They did not showed it in the movie. As far as I know, the live action movie shouldn't copy ALL the manga's contents. That's why they did not show Kakeru alive in the future. This is a beautiful story. With only 22 chapters but worth reading. I love Suwa more.. ❤️❤️❤️

It's because even though Naho and everyone saved him in their present which is the future Naho's past. The 10 years later Naho already had her past and she can't change it. There is a scene in the movie that explained Time Travel which explains why Kakeru didn't appear in the future for Naho 10 years later in the Parallel Universe

Naho Jul 06 2016 3:38 am In the manga, Naho still did not end up with Kakeru in the future where Kakeru exists. And Naho said she will still choose Suwa even if Kakeru did not die. It also shows that Kakeru ended up being someone they just know in the end. I like the ending that way, it is more realistic. There are times we can't keep in touch with our close friends in the past. I also prefer Suwa over Kakeru for many reasons. The movie was not able to show much of Suwa's greatness as a friend to both Kakeru and Naho. But I love the movie even so. ☺ We can't expect the movie to follow the movie perfectly, it would have no thrill at all.

Jul 02 2016 2:11 pm @Yama-fans - It was stated by their Professor about the Time Travel, If they could back in time, the actual world that they are currently living in will not change regardless the efforts. But it will in Parallel World. Technically, Kakeru is still dead in real world. But he does not in Parallel World. Just watch it back again!

P.S I also want Kakeru and Naho together :')

Idk if her voice is actually like that, but it is too high pitched and too weak.. I feel like she is being 'fake' with her character.. too bad....

The only thing that bothers me is that Tao act is like 'wow, im like totaly so cute with my softened voice', i've seen her in many movies and drama and i think she's a talented one. but well, i think casting her for this movie is a big bistake.

orenji Jun 16 2016 12:00 pm I haven't read the manga, but as expected Orange made me cry a lot. In my opinion, its plot is very similar to Aoharaido's and Ano Hana's plots combined. Great actors also!! Even though YamaKen has probably been in 2342348203 films this year, he was still very refreshing to watch. Nice film!!

Just hope that the other three could shine more, in helping Kakeru to stay alive. It's my first time to watch Tao-chan's work. I didn't expect much from her when I first watched the trailer, bcs for me she's too innocent-like and I don't really like her voice tone. But, I guess she fit Naho quite perfectly xD Overall the movie is great! I've been waiting for it since Orange is one of my fav, which the first manga that my friend ever recommended... Glad that the live action is great, and met my expectation ><

I was lost in the emotions (Japanese movies are expert with this) thats why though I had my theories while watching it,the ending was still unexpected. Friendship, purpose, and love have its pain and joy. Perseverance is the key.

yohrin Oct 28 2015 3:22 am Orange is one of my favourite manga series and I was so happy when I heard Kento's taking the lead role at the same time I'm very very nervous because I don't know if Kento would do well, I'm not saying he's not a good actor but I know he still needs some improvement and there's always room for improvement so Kento do your best.

And for some reason I just watched the trailer now, that gave me damn feels again, this series made me cry a whole lot. LOL

hotarumaruchiii Jul 20 2015 1:15 am it seems Kento Yamazaki is getting a lot of roles lately ^^ especially roles from live action adaptations. I've been hype up about this live action adaptation since the manga is great & I like how unique the plot is but since this is an adaptation, I guess they would probably change some things in the plot but I hope the cast will do justice for it ^^

Kame's begging to have part in the live action film even he's only pass through the background or he will wear mask every day so he can be look high school student. I hope the production of Orange live action give Kamenashi Kazuya even a cameo role PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! I love the main characters Im a fan of Yamazaken too and I love Tsuchiya as Misao back then in Rurouni Kenshin! I will definitely gonna support this film same way as the manga!
