Attorney Kensuke Komikado (Masato Sakai) loves money, prestige & women, but also has a 100% winning rate when it comes to his legal cases. Machiko Mayuzumi (Yui Aragaki) is a rookie attorney who holds a strong sense of justice & passionate about protecting the weak. She is also awkward and rigid in her work.

One day, due to unforeseen circumstances, Machiko Mayuzumi begins to work at Kensuke Komikado's law office. The two attorneys constantly clash, but in the courtroom they cooperate to fight as one.

Notes

Actress Kyoka Suzuki makes a gust appearance in episode of 6 of "Legal High" scheduled to air May 22, 2012. Kyoka Suzuki will play Keiko, the ex-wife of Kensuke Komikado (Masato Sakai). Ep.6 centers around a divorce proceeding between novelist Akira Kanbayashi (Kazuma Suzuki) and freelancer newscaster Anna Okazaki (Noriko Aoyama). Kensuke Komikado represents novelist Akira Kanbayashi in the trial. Attorney Choichiro Miki (Katsuhisa Namase) then calls Kensuke Komikado's ex-wife Keiko to the stand to support Anna Okazaki. Keiko is now remarried to a German-American accountant.

Jagd May 07 2018 7:41 am It's great, Masato Sakai is great at expressing himself in comedic style. The scenario also geared toward comedic which highlighting his expression even more. It's a lot better than boring law drama that highlighting romance(like...do they really need more romance in courtroom? The prince and the damsel in distress? Really? Not again!) and good looking casts. We need more actors, not just mere poster boys.

a male viewer Oct 21 2016 8:23 am Just brilliant, really. This show is very similar to the american series House MD. Relentlessly funny, it won't let you stop laughing for more than 5-10 minutes. There are some interesting ethical considerations here and there, but for the most part, it's over-the-top and purely comical.

Sakai is probably the best actor in Japan, and much like Hugh Laurie, mostly carries the show on his back with this stellar performance. He makes the other actors look like props.

Ubogin Oct 04 2016 8:47 pm Been looking law genre of j-dorama for a while, but nothing good than "heroes" series until i found this drama. Really good drama especially the early episodes, i can't understand why there's hatred towards main character, it was stated in the beginning that lawyer job is to fulfilled client request to the fullest. Yes he use many cunning way but you will never see things like fabrication evidence or bribe a witness to make false testimony. It's not lawyer job to seek justice nor even the truth, unless it's needed to support a case.

L-kun Dec 30 2015 4:33 pm Legal High is one of the best courtroom drama I have seen. Masato Sakai is just so good at potraying the douchebag that Komikado is.

As for the Phoenix Wright comparison, I think they are pretty different to begin with. Legal High is clearly a comedy show, with serious elements mixed in, while Phoenix Wright is a serious (at least it is more serious than Legal High) with comedic elements. They are both good at what they do.

I wonder why Ace Attorney fans are here, they're not same, at all. Ace attorney is just a normal, corny, just another day, predictible story.

Dean Mar 29 2015 8:47 pm Couldn't disagree more with the commenter ace. If you've ever played and enjoyed a Phoenix Wright game, you'll love this. I'll come right out that as a foreigner, I'm not that familiar with Asian television, but even so I can confidently say that this is not your typical courtroom drama. It's a comedy through and through, and it brings the genre to a whole new level, because of that. This show does not take itself seriously, but it knows how to push the viewer's buttons. It tricks you into feeling one way and then immediately yanks you out to laugh in your face for being so naive. It's clever in the way it plays on conventional storylines and archetypical characters. That some might find Kensuke's character unbearable might be due to the fact that he's constructed to be that way. But if people like ace could look past their shallow understanding of what makes a good character and actually pay an iota of attention, then maybe, just maybe, they could get what makes Legal High such a great TV series.

If you wanna get a good laugh with a good story and great characters, then look no further - your high is Legal High.

ace Dec 23 2014 9:07 pm I fail to see the appeal of this show, to be honest. While Yui Aragaki does an admirable job in her rather predictable role, and the secondary cast is awesome, Masato Sakai and his character were truly dire. Not funny. Not interesting. Not entertaining. Not anything but an annoying piece of human waste unworthy to walk the planet. I know! I Know! He is a lawyer and they are all supposed to be like that. But the character is just too 'meh' to be the lead. I spent the entire time wishing someone would kill him. Which is never a good thing for a viewer to feel while watching the lead in a show that is not an outright villain. By that I mean I hated him but not in a good way. Just in an 'omg please someone shut this annoying arsehole up! PLEASE!" every time he was onscreen.
