In 1971, Suzume Nireno (Mei Nagano) is born at a small restaurant in a town in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture. She is born as a healthy child, but, in elementary school, she loses hearing in one ear due to a disease.

After graduating from high school, Suzume Nireno aspires to become a cartoonist and goes to Tokyo. There, she trains hard, but fails to become a cartoonist. She gets married and has a daughter. After experiencing financial hardship and divorcing her husband, Suzume Nireno returns to her hometown with her daughter. There, she faces an unexpected turning point in her life.

"Half Blue Sky" takes over NHK's Monday-Saturday 08:00 time slot previously occupied by "Warotenka" and followed by "Mampuku" on October 1, 2018.
"Half, Blue" is NHK's 98th asadora.
Mei Nagano was selected to play main character Suzume Nireno after going through auditions which included 2366 participants.

But it's gotten drastically dull, boring, and cliche once they've become teenagers.  I'm outta here at Episode 15.

Kanojia Jul 30 2020 5:35 pm I honestly had no interest in this drama, still I decided to watch it because of Takeru. I liked the beginning but in the middle the plot was going no where. Suzume's behaviour got me so irritated like, no doubt she is confident and stuff but 24x7 acting like a kid was so annoying.

Teejay May 19 2020 7:02 pm Very disappointed with this drama. It was going nowhere in the middle of the series. The plot was just a disgrace to the cast. Esp. to Mei and Takeru. Suzume turns 25 but still acts like 14. She turns 28 still acts like 14. Wow no character development. That's why very frustrating. No wonder it received negative reviews from the Japanese viewers.

Hopefully Manpuku is better than this.

Aya Apr 26 2020 5:40 am I just finished Hanbun, Aoi and I must say, For my first asadora this drama didn't disappointed me. It made me way beyond satisfied with its storyline and ending. I am super happy and delighted to watch this drama. I love all the characters and the stories and lessons they incorporated and given to the viewers.

awuc26 Apr 09 2020 9:37 am this is my first asadora....what i can say, this series is soo heartwarming.the character look like a reality.i really like suzume and ritsu relationship.both of them try to be best friends for each other and avoid romance relationship but they failed.they are made for each others

i start this drama because of takeru but in the end i hooked with mei.

The wisdom and sometimes spontaneous comments of Suzume, her parents, Ojiichan, and Akikaze-sensei are heart melting and on point.

The character development and story will not disappoint you too :)

At first, I was really hesitant to watch this drama because it has 156 episodes but after knowing that it is only 15 mins per episode. I gave it a shot because I really wanted to watch Mei Nagano and Takeru Satoh in one drama and I got to say this drama is really worth it, Everyone!

I'm currently on episode 102 and I am so hooked with this asadora. The plot so far is definitely well-written and the way this drama talks about life is just すごい(Sugoi!!) It has a slice of everything about life.

It teaches and gives us deep insight about family, youth, friendship, love, marriage...and DREAMS.

This drama is so beautiful. I love the relationship that Suzume has with her parents especially with her mother, the friendship she formed with her group Fukurou-Kai, the dreams and friendship she also built with Akikaze-Sensei and her fellow assistants... and her love story with Ryou-chan. (this dude's actually a charmer. I'm sorry Ritsu.) I must say that their marriage is not a perfect picture but it is so sweet and full care. I really love their dancing moment under the rain, he gave a more beautiful and remarkable rain moment to Suzume than Ritsu. They fit and vibe so well. but of course...

Suzume's life in this drama is full of detours... I know there's still more for me to watch out.

It's 15 min per episode so if we assume 1 episode of the typical jdrama is 1 hour long, this Hanbun Aoi is 39 episodes in total. It's 3 season of japanese drama or 2 season of korean drama, more or less xD

shinyaN Sep 15 2018 4:27 am This is probably the best and well written asadora, at least to me. The time skips just feel natural and the dramas did not feel forced. Teru Teru Kazoku was good but Fuyuko (Ishihara Satomi) just didn't matter much throughout the series even though she's the lead character; as opposed to that, Hanbun Aoi make use of Suzume (Nagano Mei) from the start until the end and develop her character alongside supporting characters and they did it really well.

Also, Suzume's roller coaster life makes the story even better.
