Gintoki Sakata (Shun Oguri), Shinpachi Shimura (Masaki Suda) and Kagura (Kanna Hashimoto) run short of money while running their Yorozuya office. They are not able to pay their rent and decide to do part-time work. Whenever they go for part-time work, they meet Shogun-sama. Around that time, the special forces Shinsengumi, led by Isao Kondo (Kankuro Nakamura) is divided among itself. The internal conflict of Shinsengumi connects the conspiracy involving Shogun-sama.

hakugami Feb 25 2023 5:47 am It's funny to say "most of it will ended up being a cosplay show", because Sorachi Hideaki himself has noted that you should watch the Gintama movies "the way you would watch an elaborate cosplay".

For me, both movies (and the miniseries as well) were all entertaining, and that what really matters. Compressing the entire Shinsengumi arc into a movie will have unavoidable rough spots, but as long as the product is funny, there's no harm.

MF May 15 2021 8:45 pm Gintama live action is not bad and it is not good too. It is very cringe but I still enjoyed it. The thing is, anime live action will never work 100% unless it is Rurouni Kenshin. Most of it will ended up being a cosplay show. Which is sucks. So I would say that this live action is between the borderline of being really bad and good. Also, to those that said Shun Oguri can only play a serious role should watch his drama "Binbo Danshi". His character is goofy and fun there.

maaah for real overall... I can say that the actors/actresses of this film really are best for their roles. You see, the hilarious things and the serious feels its not that easy.

To actor of Shogun, nice one for enduring those scenes. You see, pretending you're serious and trying not to laugh or still emotionless when everything around you is so laughable etc.

Not to forget Yamazaki... Even his scenes is not that much... hehe
